Hi,
I have a big problem with my nexus one phone. The battery life of my phone is very bad (only 12 hours, with NO (app) USE! (only text messaging!))
I think the problem is that when I check "Battery Use", the "Android OS" is getting 70% (and more, up to 93%!) of my battery use...
What can I do? I've seen other topics with this problem, but there is always a special app that's the problem. I've reseted my phone several times, so no new apps installed, and I still have the problem...
But sometimes, "Android OS" isn't running in the Battery Use, only the "Android System"... But once Android OS has started, it climbs up to 70-80-90%... Help?
Thanks!

It's clearly some program you have installed, start killing stuff or removing stuff one by one to see what it is.
All else fails, factory reset and start over.
Thanks for your answer,
but I've tried all of this, I have already done a factory reset (already 2 times!), but the problem stayed... Are there any know problems with android 2.2.1 running on a nexus one? Could flashing another rom solve the problem?

Guys,I own a T Mobile G1 Android 1.6 Phone and recently I’m facing some problems. The problem that appeared recently is with the battery drain. before some days ago the battery of my G1 lasted up to 4-5 days, without using Wireless, GPS, and Bluetooth. If I used the mentioned services normally the battery lasted up to two days. But recently the battery is draining too fast. Within 4 hours the battery goes down less then 15% even I do not use any mentioned services. I keep my phone on standby, without talking a single minute with the phone, not using any service etc, and again it goes down very quick. I took some measures according to HTC instructions how to save the battery but again it does not function. I uninstalled all applications and reset the phone to factory setting by again same thing. Then I searched on the Google some instructions, I tried also that one’s but again it does not function. I always used HTC charger that came with the phone but again same problem. What is the strangest thing that after some days the battery gets back and works perfectly for two weeks, which means I use the phone normally without charging 4-5 days. As I operate very well with the smartphones, Pocket PC’s etc I start analyzing G1 and monitoring very closely why the battery goes down, I monitored for a long time the query under the :About Phone-Battery use- and I see there that Andorid OS is using the battery from 76% up to 85%. Now it came to my mind that something is keeping engaged or it keeps running the Andorid OS always on. Then I suspected that thre my be any virus on my phone, but I installed form Market Flexilis/lookout antivirus application, but there was no virus and again the battery goes very quickly down. As I said after sometime the system returns to normal and the battery lasts for 4-5 days, and when I check the information under Phone,Battery use, I see that the Andorid OS is spending only 6% of the battery. Comparing with the previous description it is a huge difference. According to my opinion there is a small problem with any file which keeps always running to much the Andorid OS. Can you please give me any instruction why Andorid OS is spending that much the battery? Or give me any instruction how to prevent this operation that keeps Android OS to much engaged? or is there any programming mistake?, is there any need for update?, do I need to root my phone as it is not rooted? The reason why I’m thinking that there is a technical problem is because sometimes the system gets back to normal and sometimes it goes out of normal running. I appreciate a lot if you could help me to resolve the mentioned problem.
I've noticed the same thing on my G1 sometimes there is fast battery drain and it seems associated with Android OS. The percentage is over 70%. I also notice it be associated with the display as well. Could be that there is some process that won't stop running and is using Android OS or it could be that on other occasions the display is not going into sleep mode properly. I wish I knew how to fix these problems but I don't. I just observe them.
The battery issue, is an up and down problem for me. Sometime I can go through it in one day or less, other days it will last me for 2 plus days.
It also could be that the battery need replacing. Who's know.
I just bought a 2nd hand G1 - works just fine. I rooted and installed CM6.1.
My battery drains within 1-2 hours. I've tried various methods of resetting stats, with no luck. How frustrating! I wonder if it's a battery hardware problem or software?
battery
I also faced bad battery life on various roms. Since I'm using COS-DS (android 2.3.3) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=950765 and the Biffmod kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=950765 the phone runs more than 24h when texting and calling. Of course you should apply the 14MB RAM hack in comination with this kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=831139. On standby (everything off, except data and 3g) my G1 runs >48h, before it needs to be plugged in.

Sounds like the basic description of the USB Charging Bug.
The bug triggers if the G1 is using a kernel starting 2.6.35 and onward tree, and charged using the USB instead of AC wall charger.
A couple of option to avoid the super discharge after that (you can use either);
1. Reboot after you unplug the USB charger.
2. Change kernel to one from 2.6.34 tree
You can also visit the Dev sub-forum, there's a thread there discussing the debugging process.
It is so unpredictable for me...I have just got into the habit of a reboot after unplugging USB.
Battery drain on the G1
I have the same problem. Even on standby it drops to less than half of its battery life. Sometimes its worse. today i noticed that the battery percentage was at 84. Next thing I know the phone reboots itself and it displays that it has 1% battery, battery icon empty all in red and LED flashing in red. Then I turn it off connect it to the charger, after a couple of seconds I turn it back on and says its 90 something percent. Could be a virus or just a battery bug, that's my guess. I scanned the phone with Lookout Security and there was no Virus, malware or spyware found.
I want to try different kernels for this battery issue but want to make sure I am installing the right one.
I have CM6.1 with 2.22.23.02 radio and DangerSPL installed. Can I just load any of the kernels built for EBI0?
Specifically, can I flash the kernel in the 1st post here? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1010932
Thanks.
I don't know what's causing this. Anybody have the same situation as I have? Any ideas to remove Android OS battery drain? TIA
Remove Android OS from your system :screwy::silly:
Seriously its core process of entire OS (operating system).
Without it your phone can't work

Every now and then i have the same problem, Android OS chewing my battery dry...it keeps my phone "Awake" all the time, like when i sleep for 8 hours it eats my battery over 30% ... but, after a restart or 2 or 3 restarts it gets back to its usual behavior, phone goes to sleep when i don't use it and i get easily 2 days of medium usage...
i still have stock ROM and dont know what keeps the Android OS working all the time in the background, but as i said it happens rarely, maybe 2-3 times a month,so probably its some sort of a glitch
P.S. @NoTricks , 2 months ago i installed Dropbox app and even i have had its settings not to upload anything automatically, the application was working all the time in the background killing my battery super fast...after i uninstalled it the phone went back to normal battery usage...just my personal experience with that app....

Yeah, Same Here, My battery drains faster when I install an app that always runs in background. I tweaked my S3 Mini's Minfree values and it helped a bit, but it reduced my phones powers in multitasking.
I converted my HTC One into a Google Edition, and I'm not running 4.3 (clean wipe and flash). "Android System" is now misbehaving though, and I have absolutely no idea what the problem is. My battery life has also dropped. What's odd though, is that when looking at the statistics for "Android System," which is consuming 61% of the battery, it says that it's total up-time is merely 5:30s. I have a friend who's phone recreates a similar situation. Any help? I have Wakelock Detector but that's not showing anything out of the ordinary either. Thanks.

I came across this article http://www.androidcentral.com/new-google-services-uses-more-battery-old-and-google-needs-fix-battery-screen-already that explains a little of what's going on. I still feel the battery is draining a bit faster but, then again, I've been flashing ROMs quite frequently over the past week.

I did the HTC One GE conversion with the 4.2.2 and the received the OTA.
I've also had some strange behaviour. I'll post some screens.
The battery seems to be draining fast, but worse are the stats which seem crazy.
Any idea?

Did you ever figure out how to fix it? I wiped my phone and reflashed the 4.3 ROM but I'm having the same issues still. I can't figure out what it is.
If you don't use your phone a ton, and there's no apps draining the battery while its sleeping, what's going to take up the most battery?
Android system.
Nothing's changed other than the way the system reports battery usage.

Of course, but even when my screen-on time was near 2 hours, it still remained like this. Trust me, I've considered everything.
I've also been experiencing this since I got to 4.3. I thought something was wrong so I got back to 4.2.2 with ARHD 13.4, then the android system went down to 20%. In 4.3 22.0 ARHD, its always aound 80+%.

+1.. Sense 4.3 (OTA) Android System > 70%
Has still nobody figured this out? It's clearly a problem with 4.3 itself, and not just the Google Edition, because people receiving the 4.3 Sense OTA have similar symptoms.
I have the same problem.
I doubt some app's battery usage now are count into android system such as music player. I used it at least half an hour today, but it doesn't appear in my power list.
I have this too, the problem is it seems to be mis-categorizing which is which. My screen time was around 2 1/2 hours, yet the screen was showing as having used like 2% of my battery yesterday (That's some *AMAZING* technology there).
I'm figuring what's happening here is the my Ingress which should be around the 5% mark is being labelled where the Play Services is, Screen should be where Ingress is, and Play Services where Screen is... It's like the three have been rotated. The actual raw stats then for each are accurate, like how long Ingress has kept the phone awake for etc, and how long my screens been on, and actual batterylife is still consistent, just they're all out of order.
Here's what it looks like today:
https://docs.google.com/a/c2s.co.nz/file/d/0BxtKTqslmyySMGpYTTdzcTlQNms/edit?usp=sharing
https://docs.google.com/a/c2s.co.nz/file/d/0BxtKTqslmyySXzJpeDNoNHktUGc/edit?usp=sharing
https://docs.google.com/a/c2s.co.nz/file/d/0BxtKTqslmyySdEVSTE5RSmpZa2M/edit?usp=sharing
8 minutes of Ingress does not use 85% vs the screen on using 2%
Still, no ideas of the cause, nor any ideas for a fix
Another sufferer here - HTC One standard with GPe conversion
I've this problem with my phone too!
I hate this draining...
i have the same problem..
So I managed to stop this on my device.
In the acount settings for my Google account, I disabled App Data sync.
With my usage I havent noticed any adverse effects across my 2 android devices (this HTC One GPe conversion, and a 2012 Nexus 7).
Android System is now using 15% of my battery.
Question
Hello there guys i am also having this android system on my htc one i just updated to 4.3 but i had the same problem before it so i mean i had it on 4.2.2 i did everything i read on the internet but i cant fix i would appreciate it if someone has found a solution :crying: kinda tired of this buggy android or whatever it is before that the battery percentage was like 1 or 2 % every day its like 10% now or even more sometimes
Same problems as you guys! Recently updated to 4.3 and Android system uses >70% every day.
Same problem here, Android system stays on top no matter I use the phone or not....
Hello!
Recently I've encountered strange bug - my phone keeps draining my battery with Android OS process. Since I have no root, I can't find out details ( Maybe you, guys could help? Did you happen to see such strange situation? Any solutions? I've tried disabling WiFi, WiFi optimization and checking/unchecking lots of other checkboxes all over settings
anyone? :crying:
I'm assuming to tried to reset the phone, by holding down the power button, past the time the screen pops up, then let go for it to power back on by itself.

Try the GSm battery monitor to get more details. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gsamlabs.bbm&hl=en
BTW Android System uses the most on mine also and I still get 24 hours of battery life...so it's not a big issue.

I also have more than 24h of lifetime. But it's not OK when Android OS uses more than screen and and keeps device awake.
I have this program Pro version installed. It's useless without root access. Can't tell me which package uses loads of battery
It's most likely an app that makes the android os be so high. Check first with gsam battery and if you find no issues that cause it then factory reset, update, then restore phone to how you had it.
I finally managed to fix the battery drain issue. After flashing DN7 BOOM v4 ROM or any Note 7 ported ROM, I faced severe battery drain. My battery will last only 8 hours or less. Even on standby mode my battery drains. When I check the Battery usage, it show "Android System" and "Android OS" the most. In that "Android System" drains the battery big time. I tried many fixed and still I see "Android System" will start draining. To cut the story short, these are the 2 fixes I did and I was able to get almost 2 days on my N910c, with my old battery. Screenshot attached.
1. I installed "Wakelock Detector" from play store which shows "Android System" the culprit.
2. Go to settings - application - "OM Customize" - Force Stop it. This showed a bit of improvement, but this process will start again. I don't know exactly what this process do.
3. Go to settings - Cloud and Accounts - Samsung Cloud. I switched off all items in sync settings. This was the main reason for drain.
4. Go to settings - Cloud and Accounts - Backup and Reset - Backup my data - Switch this OFF. Then reboot your phone into RECOVERY, Wipe CACHE and reboot your phone. Switch ON "Backup my data" again.
5. Forgot this important point to add. When you initially setup your device, DO NOT RESTORE APPS from previous backup from Google. I restored only Phone logs, Messages, Settings (wifi and other) only from Samsung account. When I restored APPS before, it keeps Android OS and Android System high.
In case you restored app, then do a factory reset and redo step 5. When you factory restore, In some roms you will need to re-root and install TWRP again.
After doing these 5 steps my phone battery last from 8 hours to 45 hours. For those who are having battery issue, try this. It may work for you too.
