Hero with fresh Roms - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

for some reason i don't see the option to AUTO delete txt mms after they get to a certain limit ? is it not there ?
what can i use to have this happen its for my daughter shes a txting nut lol

handcent has a good option to do this is settings just dl from market

I may be wrong here, but I don't think that feature is in Sense-based roms, I think it's only available in AOSP roms (CM6, DarchDroid, aospMod).

Texts not showing up??

ive seem to come across a problem of my texts not showing up on my phone!
For example:
I hear the vibration notification of the text and i bring down the top slider thingy to see who texted me. I tap the message and it brings me to my native messaging app but the message isnt there!!
I am using Handcent SMS with Cyanogens latest if that helps at all
I really need to fix this because its becoming frustrating texting people/recieving texts!!~
AHH!
did you make sure self-check is enabled in Handcent SMS settings?
that usually helps, also, not knocking cyanogen or anything but i always had problems with texts on his roms, probably because theyre so experimental. If you want you can try some other stable donut roms like dwang or SuperD if enabling self-check doesnt work.
I had a similar problem, i just did a factory reset, and it worked just fine afterwards... but I don't use cyanogen, so I'm not sure if the same results would follow lol...

Yeah I had that same problem and after some searching on the handcent forums they all mentioned enabling self-check. If its alrdy been enabled then id recommend switching to a more stable and less experimental rom.
Erm.. I have this problem too! By the way, where is this self-check in Handcent settings located at? I can't seem to find it.

try downloading titanium backup, make a nandroid backup and try using Super D or Dwang instead of your current rom. Blue magic donut also runs pretty fast and stable for me, and i havent missed any texts using handcent sms in any of those ROMs with self-check enabled

[Q] Stock Donut 1.6 Messaging App - Mod Request

Hey everyone, I am in no way a programmer so I was curious
if someone could possibly help me out with a request I have.
Thanks in advanced for any feedback or ideas on how to
accomplish this or potentially making this happen for me...
I know that with the newer CyanogenMod Eclair and Froyo roms
that there is an option to change the font size on the stock
messaging app. I am still on Donut cyanogenmod 4.2.15.1 and
unfortunately this option isn't yet implemented. Is there anyway
to have someone mod this apk to make the option available?
I have flashed the newer roms but always end up back on 4.2.15.1
because of stability and speed. Everytime I go back, I always long
for the font size option..
I know that there are other messaging apps that I can use like Handcent
and Chomp that gives this option but there again, I sacrifice speed and
ram when doing this. So here I stand with this request...
Do you think this is possible?
I am even down with someone changing the font to 10 or something
smaller than the default and not having the options available as well...
Let me know folks.
Thanks to everyone in this forum, you guys are freaking fantastic
and very talented! Never going back to a stock rom ever again!

Mms

I'm using zenexp 9.7 rom. Works perfect but I decided to try something different so I downloaded the cm7. Full 8 cyanogen and I loved it but certain mms won't download it tells me download unsuccessful so I went back to Zenexp no issues there wit mms so my question is am I doing something wrong why can't I get certain mms to download?
intermittent mms is a known issue for CM roms, but I would say that the goodies you get with CM7 gingerbread specifically, it's worth not getting a few mms IMO.
Yeah, I get that too. He's right though. Maybe one day it'll get fixed.
I've actually had this problem with froyo too, not just GB. That's why I'm back on a sense ROM. It's outdated but everything I need works, as I get and send a ton of picture mail for work. Unfortunately sacrifices sometimes need to be made. Sigh...

I think I've read something about how Sprint uses an "uncommon" method for handling mms, and therefore its not 100% compatible with AOSP/non-Sprint ROMS.
A workaround may be available though. This is just a thought, and I don't send/rcv many mms so I cannot easily test it. Just throwing it out there and maybe someone can provide results.
I know you can access your mms via your profile on Sprint's website. I assume that all mms still go to your account, regardless of whether or not you can view them traditionally on the phone. Based on that assumption, I would think that you could bookmark a link to the webpage and view the missed mms from the browser in CM7.
Any thoughts?

Good ROM for Hero?

Hey All,
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I'm tired of the version 2.1 stock ROM for the Sprint Hero. Even when its rooted and I clean out all the bloatware its still sluggish, buggy, and it has lately been aggravating me to no end. I want a nice lightweight ROM that has everything working (radio, wifi, data, etc.) but I don't want the HTC Sense UI if possible. Also, if it could have built in wifi tether (because all the apps I've used on the stock ROM tend to lock up or reboot the device) that would be great. Also, Apps2SD would also be nice but not a requirement.
Can someone recommend a good one?
Thanks in advance!

you are posting in the way wrong section this would have been better suited in general or Q&A
but my recommendation for you would be CM7 the official release for the HeroC, its stock android with some flavor. good battery life, apps2sd supported via built in manager (added in 2.2). built in tethering in the device settings menu (AOSP 2.3 feature) and last but not least it's AOSP based so SenseUI is nowhere to be found
I have tried all and in my mind the fastest has been hero deck. I even turned down my MHz to 691 when I use to have it at 768.

Deck's rom is fast....No doubt, but.....if you're looking for a blend of speed and stability I'd listen to ThoughtlessKyle and go with CM7. That is what I put back on my Hero for my son to use.

I'll definitely look into both ROMs. Thanks for the help!
My stock rom ran into issues the other day. Force close loop on senseui or something. Basically required a factory reset so while I was at it I decided to put a new rom on. I went with CM7. Had done a bunch of reading in the past and everyone was using CM6 then. Its nice. The one thing I didnt like is the voicemail. Getting it setup to download my voicemails to the phone was kinda a pain and the annoying texts from 9016 get old quick. Not sure why there is no solution for this. And running a separate program to block messages from 9016 isnt really a solution in my opinion.
I hear that deck rom has voicemail working with no additional installation/config necessary and none of the 9016 text messages so I plan to give it a try.

[Q] Facebook App Zero Hero Sense 3.5 Latest

The only thing I cant get to work is the facebook app, is there a work around? on the good side does not have a ring delay and appears to run smooth. Best Current ROM
ummm,,,if your facebook doesnt work you should post it in the zero development thread so matt, dastin and flash know first hand about it,,,that way if there is a problem with it they can fix it,,,and yes,,,it is an awesome rom...laater
The Facebook app isn't working for me or anyone else. Right now there's no fix and probably won't be any time soon as it's low priority. Shame because it's been a very solid rom but I like my Facebook
We do know of the problem. Its the very next thing I'm working on. So stay tuned.

Alrighty.
LONG LIVE THE HERO
I don't know if anybody else mentioned it but messaging is a little off... i'm not receiving all my the txts. I would say about 20% i missed when I had this roms because my friends called me saying y I haven't answered to the txts but in reality I never got em. But other than that this rom is very good!!! Good job devs
Interesting
I will attemp to replicate this only because I have not heard about it...
R1 Release
If I was a girl rom, I would be all over this zerohero rom,,,I was able to remove all system apps I did not require but found it made it slugish, so I used tools like rom toolbox and task managers to try and speed an already fast rom, it slowed it down again, I then started from scatch with a clean reinstall, again it was fast but as time went on it got slugish during sync, which was almost all the time, under accounts & sync there are a few hidden thing within gmail, facebook i did not need synced, I unchecked almost all options cause I only want facebook sense, gmail emails, and weather, it did make a difference, I would leave the rom as is, after all it is fast enough,
ive gotten use to having a non sense rom.
im not a social head so i don't need sense.
widgets and less resource usage are your friends for a snappy hero
Not everyone wants or likes the skinny of non sense based roms.
I myself just get bored sometimes and like to try what's new out there.
The Hero has been a versatile device and I've been amazed what devs have been throwing at it.
for someone who uses the phone on a day to day basis or in case of emergency, the lag and unresponsivness is a pain

So when is your build gonna come out? Like to see you put something out better than what we've done..... Oh that's right your not a developer. Before I even touched it, it would barely make a call let alone a text or MMS. Be grateful for what we have. Because soon here we won't have any updated Roms at all. Who are ya gonna put down then?
I've posted many options to speed that Rom up. If you choose to not use them and fill it up with apps, widgets, and all around crap, then it's your own fault.
