Believe this should be question for all newbee as well.
Downloaded new source code from opensource.samsung.com
get all source and whole environment setup from android.com
follow readme in samsumg's source code so I'd merge with android generic source
After make, the output system.img is only 50mb. Compared with samsung's system.img 250mb. After extract, there are significant differences.
apps, bin, frameworks, csc.. are much different.
Anyone had idea how to build correct samsung's image?
I created new launcher and lockscreen, it works on emulator, but cannot port to samsung Galaxy S because of environment setup, your help step by step will be very helpful, thanks!!
Hi buddy,
Do you know what’s the problem?
I meet the same problem about compiling.
The system.img only 58M. I cann’t run the image with emulator.
I don’t know how to solve it.
I guess your problem is that you don't get the drivers on the sgs.
Many are not open source.
So you can't build a firmware from scratch.
The open source from Samsung is only the kernel.
What you need is to import all missing stuff in the firmware you did compile, but you will face a bigger problem to change all places that using the missing stuff.
Sent from GT-I9000 jpo. My own kernel for z4mod and with 342MB Ram

Hi! We just released a bit of code we thought this group might be interested in.
Over at our Android Open-Source Project git servers, the source code
for Android version 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) is now available.
Here's how to get it:Follow the instructions at
http://source.android.com/source/downloading.htmlCheck out the
'ics-release' branch:repo init -u
https://android.googlesource.com/platform/manifest -b android-4.0.1_r1
That's it! However since this is a large push, please be aware that it
will take some time to complete. If you sync before it's done, you'll
get an incomplete copy that you won't be able to use, so please wait
for us to give the all-clear before you sync.
This is actually the source code for version 4.0.1 of Android, which
is the specific version that will ship on the Galaxy Nexus, the first
Android 4.0 device. In the source tree, you will find a device build
target named "full_maguro" that you can use to build a system image
for Galaxy Nexus. Build configurations for other devices will come
later.
Unfortunately we still don't have our Gerrit code review servers back
online. That remains our top priority though, and we hope to have them
back soon.
This release includes the full history of the Android source code
tree, which naturally includes all the source code for the Honeycomb
releases. However, since Honeycomb was a little incomplete, we want
everyone to focus on Ice Cream Sandwich. So, we haven't created any
tags that correspond to the Honeycomb releases (even though the
changes are present in the history.)

hey every one i think Samsung has realsed the open source virsion for GT-5830i
CHECK THIS LINK http://opensource.samsung.com/index.jsp
TYPE GT-5830i
tell me if its the open source or not
Umm.......
That's the Kernel Code they released I believe.....
!!!!!
i dont see something new up there besides newbs at samsung dont even attempted to add file upload date to their website so the only way finding out is downloading every day ?
There are different download files - all for gt-s5830-i - but apparently customised for different languages or countries. Unzipping the file gives kernel and platform sources. I'm not sure if all of the kernel code has been released. I flashed the Rafael Baugis kernel and found that it wasn't possible to read contact names and numbers from the SIM card. A test contact could be created on the SIM while using the kernel but wasn't readable after a reboot. Perhaps something's missing from the published kernel sources. Rafaels kernel also crashed several times a day. Flashing back to the stock_xxlh2 kernel fixed both problems.
Hey everyone,
I have my dev environment setup on my Linux machine, and am interested in starting an AOSP build of 4.0.4 (remove touchwiz and keep it stock), and have been following the guides for building from source, but I am stuck.
-setup dev environment
-downloaded source
-ensured I have all packages
where do I go from here?
In http://xda-university.com/as-a-developer/getting-started-building-android-from-source it tells me to setup a device target. I have pulled down the Samsung source files from their open source site. Where do I deposit these? Just a bit confused on how to keep rolling on this.
Thanks,

If someone still have source code from opensource.samsung.com, file named gt-n7000-jb-opensource-update2.zip or something like that, could you be so kind to upload it? Because, now, they have only one version: gt-n7000_latin_JB_opensource.zip and this version doesn't work for me.
