Any 3rd party app or way to configure the Hero to play some of the new HD games such as ones from gameloft.com. I realize the pixels are smaller on the Hero but like allot of computer games you can change video resolution to play the games.

Is there a way to play HD video (720p) on the Nexus One? I have tried some apps off the Market to play these videos but it comes up laggy. The file I was trying to play was an .mp4 file. The default Video app can't play mp4 files and the Market apps lag when playing it. Anyone successfully have HD video playing without lag??? Also, is there a recommended format/codec for the Nexus One?
It's not the resolution of the video per se, but rather the bit-rate that would be causing playback to lag. Bear in mind that 720 is unnecessary anyway as the phone is effectively 480 in landscape.
Use the free software Handbrake to re-encode to a more appropriate bit-rate and resolution.
Thanks. I will use FormatFactory to lower the nitrate.
I'm also a fan of Half Life 2 too.

Yes, It is possible to play 720p videos on nexus on. Actually its chipset supports. you can use mxplayer, it's my favorite player; also, you should convert your video to .mp4 and use H/W decoder. H/W decoder is not supported for other formats like flv.
I have downloaded some FHD Videos from youtube, when I play the files with the official player, FHD videos cannot be played while the lower resolution ones do.
and I have also try some 3rd party video player( mobo player), it can only be played under soft decoding while the quality is terrible (serious lag)
does anyone know how to play these files or it cannot be played smoothly at the moment?
Convert the 1080p file as MP4(Xivd) and 10Mbit/s. It play smooth on 2x.
Hi,
is there any chance to play smoothly full HD movies? I don't mean the vids, that are made by the phone, but full HD rips.
I have many movies in full HD, I convert them to mp4/mkv with video bitrate 1000-2000 Kbps.
I have tried many players: mobo, mx, dice ... and no success. The videos are running very slowly.
I'm running now CM 7.1.
Is there any chance to play these movies eg. with overclocked CPU or wiped RAM?
Or is the phone not so "strong" to play such videos.
Many thanks for your replies

That's a tricky one but already asked several times ^^. You need to reencode the videos into Baseline Profile 4.0 If am I not mistaken.
yes, I know, that the phone normally doesn't play vids in High profile (default by full HDs). but I would to ask, if somebody was successfull with replay of full HDs without reencoding with OC or wiped RAM or something else

Some things first: High profile is not necessarily the standard for full HD movies. It's used with blurays, HDTV-streams and youtube.
Sorry to disappoint you, but you won't be able to watch those videos without reencoding because of the Tegra's hardware limitations. It's possible to watch 720p with a Tegra 2 @ 1.4 GHz (but you need a player that accepts those files and has Tegra 2 optimized codecs, like MX video player or Mobo player).
1080p isn't even playable in main profile with the Tegra 2. You have to use base profile options.
I would like to know how can i play HD videos on youtube like on a normal PC where we can choose to play 720p videos on youtube instead of 360p..I know there is this HQ button but the quality is still very bad..
Not sure how to do it with the andriod app but I open youtube with the browser as a desktop site so I can play it at 720p
Guys is Nook Color capable of playing 720p videos ???
I am on CM 7.2 Mirage & I have also applied V8 script.
I tried playing few videos but they are kinda sluggish & no proper audio video sync. I used Mobi Player and also Mx Video player.
If it is possible to play, please tell me how
Thank you !!
No, the Nook cannot handle HD video. It's CPU isn't fast enough. But you don't notice a difference between SD and HD with the Nooks small screen.

If a frame width of 720 means 720p, then my Nook Color plays it fine. I have a server with a bunch of movies on it and use ES File Explorer to browse my movies and play them with MX player. Most of the 720 width videos have a height between 300 and 450. They play fine even over a wireless network.

I meant 1280 x 720 resolution videos
Nook can only play 720p video with stock kernel using hardware decoding only.

So if I reset it to stock then I can play 1280 x 720 videos ?
Look at this thread for specifics. page 2 is where the most info is.

Since the screen resolution is 1200 x 600, the Nook cannot play 1280x720 in full resolution. Some players will be able to scale it properly, but I don't know how the performance will be.
You might be forced to re-encode the videos. If you have to go down this path I would recommend Handbrake (free). I find MX player is the best video player for the Nook though (I use SW decoding to maximize the different formats it can play). You might need to overclock your Nook to play things smoothly though - mine has no problems with running at 1.2GHz.
