[Q] Changing sense flip clock - HTC Aria Themes and Apps

I was trying to look for a way to change the sense flip clock from white with black letters to black with white letters. I'm coming from WM6.5 phones so android sense themes are different to me. I'm running the Liberated Froyo w/ sense ROM right now. I was looking at something like this, but not sure if it would work.
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/htc-evo-4...mes-mods-more-2-1-playground.html#post1766858

I'm completely new to Android scene as a whole, but I think I understand enough of the basics to try and help you out here. I compared the image sizes between the link you posted and the original HTC Clock Widget on the Aria, and the linked clock's are larger.
I went through and resized all the images to the Aria's, and tried to make it look as close as I could to their theme. I attached a thumbnail of what I ended up with.
I included the altered HtcClockWidget.apk to this post, which you'll need to push to /system/app/ in Recovery (that's what I did it anyways). Hopefully this is what you're looking for. [I didn't change the preview thumbnail, so it won't look any different within the widget itself until you actually place it on a homescreen.]

That's exactly what I'm looking for! Thanks! I tried to push it in recovery and after I rebooted, the clock widget is gone and now I have a 0.0dip widget that fails to load when I try to load it. Is it because I'm using a different rom?

Hmm, that's strange. I am also using the FR001 Liberated Froyo with Sense.
When you went into Recovery, did you mount /system/ from the partitions menu and then push the file?
I'm not really sure why it wouldn't work. I'll attach a stock copy of HtcClockWidget.apk for you to push back just in case you can't get it working.

Yeah I went into recovery, mounted the /system, pushed the apk in /system/app/, then rebooted. weird might be because i'm using FR003 deodexed I'm guessing?
Actually I just reflashed to FR005 deodexed now and pulled the apk from it. maybe this can help?

The only thing I can think might be wrong is that I'm not using deodexed (I honestly don't really even get the different between the two)? Anyways, I altered the apk you just posted from 005, so hopefully this time it'll work.

I just pushed that latest file and it finally worked. Much thanks! I guess the first one can be used for standard and the last one you posted can be used for deodexed.
btw I read this thread to find out about what deodexed was

Awesome, glad it worked. Thanks for the link!

Christmas Theme - MetaMorph for CM 4.2.x - v2 New Boot Screen

A Christmas theme was requested so I ported my Open Home theme. This is for the G1 and MyTouch. The MetaMorph files are for Android 1.6 ROMs, not for Hero ROMs
The base of this is my Ice Crystals theme.
To give credit where credit is due:
The calendar widget right now is from sir*mez's M_Blend.
Thanks as always goes to:
beagz - For all the help with the themes
Stericson - For making so much possible
JesusFreke - The Original
Haykuro - A lot of great ROM work
Cyaongen - Great ROM's
Manup465 - So many great themes and the transparent folders
brandenk - a great tutorial
jbourque - black gloss popup
LatinSilEighty - black gloss keyboard which I made the white ones from
jonnybueno - black framework from Smorg
Sir*Mez- Calendar Widget
I have not made a Boot Screen yet, so it is the Boot Screen from my Ice Crystals theme

I didn't flash the white notifications before taking the screen shots., but if you flash that before apply the MetaMorph it will change your clock and the notifications to white, for example:
Any chance you can point in the direction of the info needed to create open home themes I would love to be able to spit out a few of those. I have searched but I can never find a template for open home or did you just use an existing apk.

Thank You
The white notifications for 4.2.8 are now in the OP
v2 is now out with a Boot Screen
I placed the White Notifications for 4.2.8.1 in the OP. If you apply the full MetaMorph, remove the Contacts.apk from Cyan's update, place it in your sdk/tools directory and push it to your phone. I have not redone all the dialers yet for the eclair dialer.
Code:
cd your-sdk-location
cd tools
adb remount
adb push Contacts.apk /system/app
this is my first time using metamorph, so it may just be me being a noob...when i apply christmas-theme-v2 it just gives an error for each part of the theme and doesn't apply anything. i am using the latest cm rom 4.2.8.1.
i tried applying Christmas-MM-apkv2.zip and it ran, then it rebooted and started force closing everything and kept rebooting.
am i doing something wrong here?

Well the first one without the MM in the name is meant for the script version that's why that one didnt work. For the fact that after you ran the version meant for the apk version and it did that, well thats not normal lol
Reboot into the console and run fix_persmissions, most likely something just happened when you applied it.

mkay, trying that now
well it was doing the same thing, so i was going to reflash the cm update and i noticed my SD card was full...doh! so i cleared that off, replaced the theme, and we'll see what happens now.
yup, it was my card being full. sorry to bug you, guess it's time to upgrade from that 1gb card that came with the phone
merry christmas!

So it worked after you cleared off some of your card then?
well it worked once. i cleared space off the card, then i unzipped and replaced the theme, then applied it and it worked. then i realized that i didn't do the white notifications, so i flashed that and then tried again, i've tried 3 times and it gets to the framework portion and chunks. it never completes. i've let it run for over an hour. so i dunno if it's something with my phone now or what.

Remove the unzipped folder and then do pick theme and let it unzip and just do the framework then

tried this and still no dice...
the last thing i see in logcat from MetaMorph is always:
I/MetaMorph( 1509): Executing [rm -r /system/framework/framework-res]
I/MetaMorph( 1509): Executing [rm -r /system/framework/framework-res] os.flush()
so it looks like it's failing to remove something, so it never gets to putting the new images in. probably why the system becomes unstable afterwards...
If I have time, Ill port it to 4.2.9.1 as an update.zip
white notifcations
hey i flashed the white notifcation zip but when i try to boot it just goes to a black screen after the boot screen. so idk if i did something wrong or if there is something wrong with the zip. hit me back text or pm. cell # 850 221 9779

how do you skin the default keyboard?

i know some themes change it, but i like the theme i have already. i just want to change the keyboard to a more pleasant look. is there somewhere i can find different ones to download or flash onto my rom? i don't want to use betterkeyboard app, etc.
Here You Go Buddy.
Well i skinned the stock keyboard pretty easily with a few easy techniques.
First check out my theme Ivory http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=612315 To see if that's what you want. I hope your familiar with themeing or this might be confsing.
-I took the latinIME.apk from cyanogens last rom
-Opened it as a zip and navigated to the res drawable folders
-downloaded the better keyboard skins i wanted (simple black and green)
-pulled the different drawable files from the betterkeyboard apps and replaced the stock cyanogen ones
-resigned apk and flashed inside my theme

haha what are the odds well at least your on the right track!
I would go for editing HTC_IME.apk, just a personal preference i guess, but i think its better, and have played around with editing it a bit myself, and its pretty easy, but you need to be able to do *.9.png files.

Im not sure, are you using stricstons signing tool? how are you flashing it?
What ROM are you trying it on? The new CM ROMs the keyboard is now in the LatinIME.apk instead of the framework-res.apk, but if you are using one of the other ROMs, that may not be the case.

i dont think so, im using a modded apk signing tool i found on here, i lost the link.
and im doing
cp /sdcard/LatinIME.apk(the one i made) /system/app
in terminal emulator.
then after that the keyboard just dissappears. if i restart after that, the keyboard never shows up. if i just try to go back, i get acore force close repeatedly.

yea i know, im on cyanogen's latest.
You may want to try getting Stericson's signing tool. If it is disappearing signing could be the main issue. Since you edit it on your PC, why don't you just push it through adb after signing instead of copying it to your sd and then having to use the terminal?

the thing is though that i used the same signing tool to edit a graphic on a different app & it worked just fine.
i don't have/really know what adb OR sdk is & terminal is the easiest way i know how to do it. i mean does it really make a difference?
its been confirmed that it's not my signing tool because i used the same tool to edit a different app, a battery widget i downloaded from the market. & it worked fine. anyone else can help me?
lets get this working buddy,
Alrighty maybe try flashing the keyboard in an update.zip, just put the latinIME.apk into a folder named app. Then copy a meta inf folder from another theme download, you can use mine. Then send that to a compressed folder, resign and try to flash it. I would try that, I have never had good luck pushing with adb and pulling stuff, I stick with the easy way
yesssss i finally got it to work! it turns out i didnt need the signing tool at all. i took the latinime.apk file from a theme with a skinned keyboard, then i ONLY replaced the keyboard png's, and kept the meta-inf how it was. thanks guys for trying to help

can't get metamorph to install theme, and yes i searched

i can't seem to figure out why i can't apply nextheme.
i'm on enom's latest ROM, and got the appropriate (well, mostly, only difference i believe between 1.9.1 and 1.9.2 is the camera app, i think).
i unzipped the nextheme folder, brought over only the folder containing the modifications and xml file, and put them into a folder on sd card. using metamorph i navigated to the correct folder, selected the xml file, and then hit 'apply all'.
it says it starts with the first file (browser.apk), then just sits there with the little 'busy' indicator spinning around. i let it go for like 10 minutes, and nothing happened, it just sat there and spun. so, i killed it.
second time i just selected one apk to adjust (calendar.apk) rather than the whole lot. same thing. sit there and look busy, but do nothing. forever.
so i killed it.
any suggestions?
Which version of MetaMorph are you using?

the newest one. i picked up the morph in the themes thread. somebody said that they packaged up the theme into a morph. i tried to get it to fire up, and it just locked. if i tried to update all, it would lock on the first one. if i would pick any single one, it would lock on that.
i'm not going to hold my breath. i'll just wait for froyo, i guess. or, at least news about froyo.
Sorry for hijacking your thread but since you're talking about metamorph here i might as well ask instead of creating a new thread.
So i have the most recent version of metamorph and when i try to apply themes it says it had successfully patched things but nothing changes. Anyone know why or how to fix this?
I'm using HelixLauncher2 so that could be why but it used to work before the update so i dont know

Specific theme/skinning questions

1- Where is the gmail icon located for the status bar? stat_notify_email.png in the gmail apk does not seem to work (nor does anything i am finding in the systemUI or framework...) been looking and cannot find it!
2- bootscreens
-- anyone figure out how to cover up the 2nd bootscreen (cotulla screen)? - i don't think so
-- where is the third boot screen located (stagnant image; prior to animated boot)?
-- i cannot for the life of me make the animated android bootscreen work. i can flash other people's work. but if i edit their images or use my own it just becomes black. any tips?
thanks in advance.

You need replace the .rle inside initrd.gz, or replace initrd.gz with compatible one.
What Rom are you using?
The gmail notification was in the gmail.apk in froyo. But I'm not sure in gingerbread.
thanks for the reply.
icon - on further investigation, it was in drawable-hdpi-v9 and not drawable-hdpi where it always seems to be.
bootscreen - hmmm...what you wrote is something i have never really even comprehended to mod. i am using TyphooN's CM7 for what it is worth...thoughts on how to attack it? also, if you know, any ideas on how to make the animate bootscreen work?
thanks, again.
edit - found the .rle. googling around, have not found an easy way to make them. do you know of an easy way? will keep looking...

Flashing Fonts

I'm having problems flashing fonts on my Thunderbolt. On my Eris and Incredible I could flash any font pack through CWM and Amon RA, respectively, but when I tried last night on my Bolt none of the fonts took. I made sure the font packs I flashed were edify fonts, but still no dice. One of my main reasons for rooting is because I hate the stock android font. Can someone please help me out with this? Thanks in advance
This is the link I got my fonts from in case anyone was wondering

Try using an app called absolute system from the market ...that's what I used on my dinc and it worked just fine

Was kinda hoping for a free way and a reason why manually flashing fonts isn't working on the TB. Thanks for the app, though, if i get desperate I'll d/l it. I hope someone smarter than me can come in here and help a brotha out

I used to use these fonts, also, and could not get them to work now.......so I unzipped the file and pushed the 3 files to /system/fonts.....rebooted and I am good to go. By doing it that way, it does not matter if they are edify or amend.
Just use Font Changer, it's free AND it WORKS =P

That sounds awesome, but I don't know how to do that. I've been using font changer which is free on the market. I'd rather be able to flash them, because flashing things is great and it feeds the addiction, but this gets the job done
try typefresh on the market, only thing it does is back up and restore fonts... unfortunately requires AndExplorer to select fonts to restore but will back up all on its own... I actually like AndExplorer but use RootExplorer most of the time, AndExplorer has a more pleasing GUI however
i just used typefresh to install coconut-darkstar font (the most elegant font anywhere IMO) - worked great. was stuck at "rebooting..." after selecting the font so had to reboot manually but everything flashed fine. as posted earlier it required andexplorer but thats free in the market too.

font changer worked for me too, flashed a few different fonts to find one i liked. just do yourself a favor and hit reboot later when the app prompts you then reboot your phone via other means, the app's reboot function locked up my phone and had to pull the battery.
Anyone know what the default font for our phones are in case I want to go back?
