Came across a newer version of Odin3 on Samfirmware.com in their Galaxy Tab firmware section.
note: I repackaged the zip from Samfirmware.com because it contained a .pit file for the tab, and I didn't want someone making the mistake of using it....

After seeing what you said above I double checked the original download from samfirmware.com and my .rar
It's 1k smaller than 1.52, has a different build date (August 8th for 1.52...October 1 for 1.7).....runs fine on 3 systems here, and caused no virus popups...
You might have something else going on not related to this......

Well i've yet to get a popup, it works (just flashed JI6 to test), and is not 20k larger on my systems (as the other poster claimed)....dunno....
Sometimes antivirus popups result from false positives as well, but I''ll triple check to be sure...
Since I'm the original poster however I'll keep looking into this, to see if I'm missing something....
I just grabbed it, scanned it rar'd and unpacked with Kaspersky 11.0
Ran fine, no bugs found.

Just scanned it with Kaspersky and AVG....clean as a bell...
I'm thinking it may simply be a false positive occuring in some antivir or antimalware package....or someone is infected with something they only now realized...
Oh well...as with all downloads......caveat emptor.
I did...that is why I posted that I checked it as a rar and then I checked it again unpacked.
I also tested it's functionality, it works fine.
No bugs.

Try online scanning the .exe here...

we can compare results this way.....on my end it both comes up clean and works reliably to flash..

I did a VirusTotal scan (meta-virus scanner) which can be found here. 0/43 positive.
Yeah...I'm thinking this has just tripped up someone already infected with something. I see no evidence of anything...
And I'm not trying to be all he said/she said about it either. I just want to take responsibility for the things I post. The last thing we need is me causing people grief here because I was sloppy.

I prefer virus total for online scans.
Have a look here for that result.. 0/43.
I'd venture it's safe.
I also notice that he has an 'efs reset' which looks interesting.
I agree. I never received a virus alert. But I was comparing the sizes and the versions in Version tab w/ a couple of Odin exes I have around.
And they are all 1.0.0.1, and the file in question is alittle bigger than the other three I had.

ahhhm....now I understand why you claim a huge filesize difference...You didn't pay attention to the conversation....
The file size difference appears to be because your comparing 1.70 to Odin3 v1.00 and not to v1.52, which Master™ and I were referring to...
Insofar as the reoccuring v 1.0.0.1 file version in details.....Chalk that up to Samsung being lazy with their compiler.
Odin 3 v1.00 is old, buggy and not a version I'd advise using on a phone. This (1.70) is the fourth version of Odin3 I've come across....Past time to upgrade.
A lot of people still use v1.00 successfully....but on older 32bit systems...v1.00 causes many significant problems however and I stopped using it a long time ago which has completely halted any and all stalls I commonly encountered when using Odin...

I stand corrected master...and yes samsung is retarded about keeping them the same. Thx for the lesson
Works just fine on my system, Windows 7 64 bit, using Norton anti-virus and Microsoft Security Essentials...
no problems unzipping, and my downloads get scanned as they download, so nothing ever makes it my computer if its infected.

Hello all. If you are as tired of this ODIN method as i am, than you on the same boat. This sucks. But its all we have. So i have made a visual guide to odin. Attached below. Its a JPEG. Feel free to download it, rather than flip from pages to pages to find it. Thanks again. Any other requests please email me [email protected]

Trust me, i have been in this scene 2 years now, since the g1, and i can bet that this phone will continue to blow peoples minds with its capabilities. This ODIN, is pre-historic. But the best way. I know there are 45 other flashing programs, guides, but none of them helped me like i bet this will help you. If you need any more screenshots of the process shoot me an email, or gtalk. Thanks again guys/girs.

I have not used Odin yet as I am new to Android, but I am positive I will at some point.
One thing that would really help this guide would be all the necessary files that you reference. I know they can be found via a search.... but it can be pretty nerv-racking when trying what you need when your device is dying.
Just a suggestion.
Thanks/ Andrew/
You might wanna also add that you need to remove both your sim card and memory card in order for Odin to flash your phone.

+1 It is not necessary to have odin flash your kernel.
maybe mixed results? for me, i cant flash back to stock nor can i flash the kernal without removing both sim and memory card. if i have the sim and memory card inserted it gets stuck at the "zimage" part.
I've had it stick there before too, but I usually just close odin, unplug my phone, open odin again, and plug my phone in again. usually after that it works

Thanks for this. While I felt like I had the steps in my head right for flashing ODIN...It was super helpful to have a pic reference.
does anyone know what the differences are between the 512 pit file and the 803 pit file floating around? Im assuming there different partition size layouts but whats the deal? I guess people have flashed the 803 pit file and it works the same as the 512 but what really changes i have yet to find??
please delete. answer found.
You justg saved my butter! My Bionix butter that is. Thanks guys, you guys are the best
the difference i do know is that the 803 pit file changes your entire system, and the way it runs. It sets it up differently, thats why you need it for generally most Froyo's or deviations of the i9000 2.2 (803.pit).
So other than a number, and a file system change .. not a thing
This was working just fine until I installed Master Rom 1.1 Now I can't use Odin. It'll load like it always did, I go to download mode and get everything set right on Odin and it Go and then it hangs. I've tried this process now 20 times to no avail. Any ideas what's hanging it up?

Tried that,unfortunately didn't work.
where is the downlaod visual guide?
After flash ROM without backup, I searched on Google Play but I can't find any adblock app.
So i search and know that some days ago all "Ad Blocking" apps were removed from Play Store. It's too bad, because with small app, i always download the new one after flash.
AND WITH SOME APP, I DON'T WANT DOWNLOAD FROM ANOTHER SOURCE EXCEPT GOOGLE PLAY.
Luckily, i opened the sdcard and recognized that I backed up this app the day before flash. so I have backed up the best ad blocking app for me: AdFree from bigtincan.
I attached version 0.8.47-the last version in the Google Play before remotion. I exported it by AppInstaller, so you can install it normal
Also, you can get the last version here (found this in XDA ): http://adfree.bigtincan.com/adfree.apk
UPDATE: ADFREE 0.8.47 WAS OUT OF DATE. EVERYBODY CAN DOWNLOAD NEW VERSION VIA THIS DIRECT LINK: http://adfree.bigtincan.com/adfree.apk
Or you will get Out of date notification when open apps
*EDIT: 19-Jan-2015: attached newest version (dont know if anybody still using this like me. haha)

I just installed it and you are right. I was just a little worried about it. I know an icon change doesn't mean much but I am very cautious with apps that ask for root.
Also as you may have noticed, the download link I mentioned isn't publicized on their home page. It's for those who find it, I would assume

I still get the same error. I then go over to BigTinCan's main site. From the looks of it, it got me thinking "I wonder if they have abandoned the adfree app". Anyways, I just downloaded and installed the adaway apps and I seems to be doing its job. Sweeeeeet!

To get Region code and other info from your phone use Phone INFO ★Samsung★ app by @vndnguyen. The download function features Pause / Resume.
You can use it for all Samsung devices, but I have only tested it on Galaxy Tab S. It requires .NET Framework 3.5 (Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x86) and Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x86) installed)
If you run it via command line, you can use it to just decrypt .zip.enc2 and .zip.enc4 files.
Please let me know if the tool worked with your device and if you found any bugs (note, it's still beta).

In firmware info you input the data from your device (see example screenshot)
You can get needed information from Settings => Device Information and in Kies.
Thanks, zxz0O0.
One question: does it download from Samsung's servers or from an unnofficial source?
Bugs and suggestions:
1) BUG: If one of the parameters is incorrect, it gives the error message in the text area, but the controls remain disable, so I cannot correct data and try again. I am forced to quit and start over.
2) Suggestion: save the last used data (Model, Region, PDA, CSC, Phone, etc)
3) what does the "binary nature" check box mean ?

It is downloaded from Samsung servers. Thanks for your suggestions / bugs. I will correct (1).
2) This is already implemented. The last used settings will be saved to SamFirm.xml
3) I am not sure exactly but Kies uses this if you select firmware initialization for example. I have not really checked it yet, but there are more *.tar.md5 files in the firmware
Edit: Updated attachment with (1) fixed.

I made this easy app to install apps in Android Auto (any version, also 3.0)
This will work on Windows and it's very easy to run. Just one click.
Some anti-viruses software could flag this as a virus, but it's a false positive and totally safe to run.
Disclamier:
-If this is the first time running this software, please uninstall any previous version of the app you wanna install.
-This software WILL NOT install an app and make it compatible with Android Auto (if it's not). It will install an Android Auto-compatible app correctly if it does not show up in car. Please be sure that the app you are trying to install is indeed compatible with Android Auto.

Thank you for your program. I haven't tested it yet because my windows PC isn't available right now. I'll do so when I can.
I do want to make you aware of something you might not be aware of.
When I clicked your link, the link shortener site tried to force the download of an Android app. Then, either the file storage site or the link shortener in the background tried to force another Android app download on me. It wasn't until after all of this that your file started to download.
Luckily, I know enough not to blindly install things that just show up or tag along with stuff I want. Someone else might not. Who knows if those apps are even safe? The fact that their distribution model involves some sneaky tactics suggests that the apps not be trusted.

Well this is not exactly what this software does. I'll try to be more clear on the OP. Anyway are you aware that Here Maps is not compatible with Android Auto?
@Zival73 I think I've figured out your issue. I'm releasing a new version in a few moments

The main thing of this program goes around ADB. So I guess the answer you are searching for is yes.

It's just another shrinkearn link. These are against community rules. You should remove your link to this site

Nothing new here, we've had this for quite some time now. Most people will still want to wait for it to come from Samsung.

the problem is not ownership but the sharing part.
Has anyone brave enough tested it out yet?

No, but you need change name or remove .md5
Code:

i was merely explaining why.
even if something is not yours, the act of sharing something might not always be good, even if you had the best of intentions.
anyone trying yet?
Please someone test, need to know?
How to receive Official Pie without changing CSC + Doubt clear
Listen guys,
I am reading since many days this and that firmware is from unknown source, dont flash bla bla
Is there not a simple way to check authenticity ?
I believe yes, there is
How?
Disable your OEM lock (developer option) By-default it should be off but making sure, it will not allow you to flash custom binary
Now download un-released firware from available source
Flash using Odin
If firmware is not by samsung, it won't allow you to flash. and so it shouldn't trip knox as well, as no firmware is flashed.
If successfully flashed then you will able to flash/receve update too if available.
One more thing, NEVER make stupidity to remove md5 extension from file as it will force flash file even it is corrupted and that can even brick device depending upon which component file is corrupted
I have just flashed CRLT (I have different source from OP but yes, not available officially) and also updated to latest CSA2
PS : my OEM I keep always enable as never care for knox but when I have received and applied OTA, this itself suggest my Odin flashed file was genuine.
Hope this will clear all doubt

Why?
Can you explain this logically? You know this stupid action can brick the device?

1.I said about your advise to delete MD5. Do you know how removing md5 is vulnerable to brick device?
2.FYI Odin doesn't have matter of file name (*.tar.md5) you are flshing, it does matter name of images.(like system.img,boot.img etc) so even changing name help you nothing.
3.MD5 can not be changed by changing name of file but afftects by contents.
And I have seen your images and only stupid person can change name like this (who have packed tar_xyz.md5) My source have no such renaming. This is not renaming of file but renaming of extension.
Even in this case advise to remane "Anything.tar".md5 is perfect rather than deleting md5
I can confirm that it works. Thanks for firmware!

I just downloaded attached file from drive and removed UserUpload.net so I ended up with tar.md5. Because Odin wasn't accepting it with. That's it*
