some sites lag some don´t ... why ? - Motorola Droid and Milestone General

i have this question in the back of my head for some time ... here I go :d
Why if I for example open droidlife.com on my milestone with 3 randon browsers it works great on all 3 of them, but if i open xda developpers site in the same 3 browser it feels laggy on all 3, I´m mentioning xda developpers site but this also happens to me with other sites that look a lot like xda´s one.

What web browsers do people use? Ive been using opera mobile but it is annoying how when you scroll down on the page it scrolls from link to link. Is there anything in which you can move around the page freely? or am i using opera wrong?
thanks
I personally wouldn't mind a browser such as the safari browser.

Yes, just drag the page around with the stylus rather than using the d-pad.
Try Netfront. I have installed it yesterday and happy with it.
I love Opera Mini - by far the best IMO.
I want skyfire, but I have yet to get my beta invite.
Well Opera mini for me is so far the fastest browser. I try netfront 3.5 and I must say that I like the zoom feature really much but a bit slow.
I've been using NetFront for about a month and it's been meeting my needs. I agree that it's a bit slow at times (zoom activities and loading), but my guess this is due to debug code rather than a core rendering issue.
I'd like to see another drop from NetFront, so if you have problems please provide feedback on the NetFront website.
opera mini got my vote. I love how speedy it is. By far the best.
I have opera mobile not mini and i think is a great browser the download manager is great not like the IE that sometime damage the files when downloading . . .
Iam using Opera 9.5 beta love it!!
And waiting for skyfire..

I tried that but I had the following problems:

Sometimes the results are so massive you get lost
2
You are often left flat with no results at all

As a middle aged man you can have problems with the Campus Police.

Haha. Reminds me of vijay's naked chicks post. (Which I loved so much I've added it to my sig)

Opera Mobile Problem
I've searched around and haven't found anything relevant to this. When i last flashed to a rom and went to install my Opera mobile cab i had not problems but i cannot access a secure website with it now. Maybe I'm just stupid and have a setting wrong but i haven't be able to find it. Any help (including redirection) would be appreciated.

A browser for you all

Hi,
I've been a visiter here for a few years. This is my first post.
I've managed to get out the Net Front Browser that came pre-installed on my T-01A. It's a 2009 version and is very lite on battery. It runs in English on my English rom without trouble. It also utilizes the hard zoom bar of the TG01.
It's very different in useability and quality to any of the NF concept versions I've tried.
There are around 14 files to be copied to the windows folder and thats it.
However, some may contain some personal information so I'd like someone to help me clean them up before I post the files as a zip or torrent them.
The NF is based on the kernel of IE Mobile and works not that smooth. For WM devices, I recommend IrisBrowser though its develop team was required by RIM a year ago , Iris still works and the UX is perfect

Sorry, I tried the Iris browser for a few days but it's not a patch on the NF that I have. It kindov works but it's unuseable compared to what I was/ am offering.
Sorry that you think the Iris is better, lol. It is very inferior.
never mind...not everyone cares the same thing. what i care is full web experience and html 5 support, while nf, whose acid3 test result is not acceptable
btw, except the ui, what do you care when choosing a mobile browser?
Sent from my MSM using XDA Premium App
I guess you are an an employee of Iris or have connections there'ov, otherwise are you numb to judge what you don't know as you haven't downloaded my files yet?
Simply : I know about what I am speaking and you are speaking.
You only know of what you're speaking and don't know of what I am speaking.
how i wish i could work for RIM.....
but truth is what one believes so it's useless to explain more
the netfront is the mobile browser made by access in japan, isn't it?

wait... you said you have post files to be downloaded? where are they?
I did not say I had posted any files, but I can.
The 1 main advatge with this browser is battery life.
With Opera 10 minutes browsing takes 10% battery, with NF 1 hour's browsing takes 10% ( or thereabouts).
The difference is comparable with Windows media player and Core player. WMPlayer is about the same 10 minutes is 10% battery and Core player 1 hour is 10 % ( playing music).
It doesn't support flash, but it's as fast as Opera for one tenth of battery usage. And so for browsing - it's the best browser I've found.
When I had the stock Japanese rom on it I used it all the time. After flashing an English rom it was sufferable with only IE opr Opera, they both drain the battery like a gorilla in a banana shop.
It was tricky to get the files out as the are protected rom files and ordinarily uncopiable. But I've got them.
If you know anyone else who has managed to get the JP version of NF from a Japanese Toshiba T-01A (which is completely in English when installed on an English rom) then please, ask them, or download from them.
Is this not On topic?
This is definitely on-topic XD
It seems a bit silly to get into an argument over the difference of opinion here. Just hurry up and link to the browser so we can all have more alternatives! =)
i see, trying to look for it

Here's a link
https://rapidshare.com/files/458372874/NFB.rar
*** Please read below ***
It's a RAR file with 12 files and 2 folders.
You need to select 'Show hidden files, folders and drives' and uncheck 'Hide protected operating system files' in your pc's 'Folder Options' to see all the files and so copy them. (or use a decent phone file explorer)
Copy all 14 to your phones' 'Windows folder'.
Link to NFStartup (or 1 of the others).
And give it a try.
It's off a T01 A so the hard zoom bar should work fine on TG01.
If problems on a different screen resolution, there is an 'nfview' file that looks configurable.
Also the Widgets thing is crap as far as I know so you can save a few MB and delete that; It should still work fine.
seems different to find. actually it is also difficult to find a third party japanese rom:-(

Sorry, it is due to the network delay, I'm downloading and will try it later. Thank you for sharing.
In fact, it's the NF 3.5 for WM, you can open this link http://acid3.acidtests.org/ in this browser, the result is 36/100 here, you may run this test in other browsers for a try.
Here're the results I've tested months ago for your information:
http://shrt.st/10ae
Your right, it is the 3.5, I noticed it on when it starts up.
That acid test is a waste of time. It bears nothing useful in reality.
The NF still out performs all other browsers in the real world. But if you need flash for something use Opera.
Good luck on the battery life.

New Nexus 7 - Help me unleash the power

Hi Guys
Completely new to the forum and registered 5 min ago. I'm a proud owner of a Nexus 7 but coming from Apple I'm not sure where to go next.
I'm sure many people have asked these questions in the past and yes I have looked through the forums as well as good old fashion Google but not seen a one stop shop.
Please could someone take the time and help me with the below?
1. What are the best apps to use? What are the apps everyone is using?
2. What is the best things for Themes? I've heard of Novo and Apex but which one is the best? As a point of knowledge I'm looking for a minimalistic theme.
3. Is it really worth putting a new Rom on? Bootloader? Sorry all very new to me this stuff.
4. What do people use they Nexus for on an average day?
5. I want an app that I can draw add notes in but it is seamless with the PC so I can then transfer it to that and work on it in windows (works pc) possibly something like One Note but not One Note.
6. Where do people get the Nexus fix from? What is your source of information (apart from this wonderful website which I can believe Ive never registered on before)
7. Best Android browser (flash)
Appreciate it is allot of questions guys but I've posted on other forums to have no responses so Im really hoping the community will help me here.
Once again sorry for being a pain and hop this is in the correct section.
Thanks in advance
James
You don't need to do any of that. Just enjoy your tablet.
The stock ROM is great, the stock launcher is great. Look for the best reviews in the store.
I would start with ShadowGun Deadzone to see how great multiplayer gaming is on the N7.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.madfingergames.deadzone
After that, take a look at the editor picks on the play store.
There are also some offers on at the moment:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/collection/promotion_2013_play_birthday?feature=banner
(Need For Speed, Plants Vs Zombies are great)

1. This is completely relative. My favorite or most used apps could be your least favorite and never used apps. Your best bet is to wander around in the Play Store and just experiment.
2. Nova and Apex aren't themes, they're launchers. They offer more customization options than the stock launcher. You can also theme with them, yes. Again, there is no such thing as "best" - there is only preference. I personally prefer Nova Launcher Prime.
3. It depends on what you are after. If tons of customization is your thing, then yes, go with a custom ROM, such as Paranoid Android. If no, you are just a casual user, the stock ROM does a superb job.
4. Depends on the person. I read articles on it, books, some games, Skype, etc.
5. Asus Supernote.
6. XDA, Google Play Store.
7. I personally just use Chrome.

For backing up I recommend Carbon. As it works with or without root. If you're rooted you can use Titanium Backup but I've found it to be way more than I needed.
For browsing I use the default chrome. If I need flash I use firefox. You have to make sure you have flash installed seperately. See here for instructions. This works without root.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ofxPwmZULw
Some people recommend a custom kernel for better performance and battery lfie. Personally I have been very satisfied with a stock kernel and rom. I have rooted mine but I only use it to reset my bluetooth configuration because a gamepad I have sometimes doesn't pair properly. Somewhere on here there is a comparison of custom kernels if you want to check it out. I've forgotten where it is though.

I agree with CrazyPeter...
If as you say, you are a complete novice with regard to Android... for the time being, just forget about ROMs, BOOTLOADERs and ROOT. All that will come much later.
Just enjoy your tablet as Google intended... there's a whole plethora of interesting stuff on PlayStore to be played with first.
-----
Here are some of my 'core' apps, which I have installed on all my Android boxes (and would consider to be incomplete without).
QuickPic, CatchNotes (In which I'm typing this), Dual File Manager, Temple Run 2, IMDB, Apex, Opera Mobile (although the new WebKit version, Opera Browser Beta is shaping up to be a great browser).
When I got my first Android device in 2010, I spent six months just playing around with stuff available on PlayStore... (read the reviews and recommendations).
This was well before I even considered rooting and flashing custom ROMs.
I would recommend you do something similar, just to gain the experience of using Android... and read, read and MORE read, everything you can.
XDA is a veritable Aladdin's Cave of Android knowledge. Avail yourself of it.
Rgrds,
Ged.
1 - You need to find your own apps, no-one can tell you what you'll like.
BetterBatteryStats is an app I ALWAYS recommend.
XDA Forum App
Coin Drop
Jetpack Joyride
Fing Network Monitor
Falcon Pro (AWESOME TWITTER CLIENT!!!!)
2 - Apex is better than Nova on Tablet, Nova is better than Apex on Smartphone. (My favourite minimalistic theme : https://play.google.com/store/apps/...?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5hcGV4Lm1pbmltYWwiXQ..)
3 - HELL YEAH - Get Paranoid Android, and Either M-Kernel or Faux123 Kernel and you'll be dribbling mate !
4 - I just use it whilst being a couch potato, others take it out and about but I generally don't. Browsing, Watching Youtube, Forums, Email, Social (Facebook/Twitter)
5 - I'm not sure on this one, maybe Evernote?
6 - Pfft, nowhere but XDA!
7 - AOSP Browser (Built into Paranoid Android)
Thanks for all the responses so far guys and gals!
Use Evernote for note taking

I recently had to trim down the number of apps on my htc desire due to nand issues. Doing so also made me aware of the core apps I can't live without....so here's the list!
Adaway
flash player
Airdroid
Lightning browser
CPU spy
Drive
Dropbox
FTP server ultimate (use with filezilla)
Game killer
Gameboid
N64oid
Mx player
Remote for vlc
root explorer
Screen adjuster
Setcpu
Tasks free (I use this for notetaking in lecture - can then access from any device with internet)
Thumb keyboard
Titanium backup
Unified remote full
Swapps
Lmt
Wm FTP client
Tasker
appinstaller
Ezpdf reader
Xda app
Super hexagon
GMd gesture
Floating stickies
Teamviewer
Some/the most useful ones may need root
Oh and I highly recommend u root the nexus to unleash its full power
Definitely install multirom, it will allow u to multiboot different roms so u can test them out before deciding on one (or keeping them all). I personally multiboot a cm10.1 (android 4.2), paranoid android (4.1), and ubuntu (a desktop os). The reason for the 4.1 rom is coz its faster and less buggy than 4.2 , and "directory bind" app actually works - letting me run 16gb worth of android game files from a usb...awesome right?
Install flash player. google it to find the apk
use naked browser for flash.. Fastest and lightweight browser... great for flash

As what CrazyPeter said, just enjoy your tab and get all the juice you can from it. Everything will just fall into place if you want to experiment a little bit. I myself have not yet rooted or flashed custom ROMS but I'd probably will (to maximize my gaming experience). N7 is really doing well in gaming (Tegra 3 is a beast). I suggest, if you play a lot of games, go get an OTG cable and a PS3 controller or a controller built for Android (MOGA is really nice). These controller matches well with games like Shadowgun Deadzone and some pretty good console emulators (NES emu).
If you read a lot, there's a lot of really good readers (Adobe Reader, Kindle Fire) in the Play Store. Perfect Viewer is awesome for comics
You can browse the xda forums to help you with your N7 experience.
This thread helped me customize my N7
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1740482
This thread helped me try some of the awesome games at Play Store
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1771129
Awww yeah, I've wanted to find one of these threads forever. Despite joining the forum in 2010, I only really started using my account when I got a Nexus 7 last Christmas, so I'm still a bit new myself. However, I think I have a somewhat impressive mass of some of the best apps/options available to a N7 power user. Especially what's been posted so far, no offense. Sure, usage is mostly personal preference, but comparing apps to find the best is what's most fun about a competitive apps market. Also, there's no reason to think that custom roms/kernels/recoveries will "come with time." You should just do it now and have an awesome tablet asap! It's basically impossible to permanently brick your device, and it's very simple to do this stuff if you just read instructions and threads before asking questions.
On that subject, if you have any questions, ask away!
1. What are the best apps to use? What are the apps everyone is using?
Browsers: xScope (my fav), Dolphin, Firefox, Opera, Boat, AOSP
Launcher: Apex and Nova, lol
Music: PowerAMP, n7player, Google Music
Video: MX Player, Netflix
File Manager: ES File Manager (stream videos/media via wifi/LAN)
E-Books: Moon+ Reader
Word/Excel/PP: OfficeSuite Pro
Cloud: Dropbox, Google Drive, Microsoft SkyDrive, Box, MediaFire, MEGA, Bitcasa
Weather: The Weather Channel
Misc: Beautiful Widgets, Reddit Sync (#1 reddit browser), TeamViewer, ShareKM (really cool), uTorrent+uTorrent remote, Changelog Droid, BetterBatteryStats
Games: Temple Run 2, Glow Hockey, TETRIS, Minecraft PE, ShadowGun: DeadZone, Dead Trigger, Jetpack Joyride, Major Mayhem, Robotek, The Shape Shooter, Cordy 1-3, GTA 3/Vice City, Cubes vs Spheres, The Impossible Game, Super Hexagon, Beat Hazard, Night Sky, Solar 2
Emulators: Mupen64 Plus (N64), Snes9x EX+ (SNES), FPSe (PSX), Gameboid/GBCoid (GBA/GBC), Gensoid (Genesis), there's a lot of emulators and they're easy to find.
2. What is the best things for Themes? I've heard of Novo and Apex but which one is the best? As a point of knowledge I'm looking for a minimalistic theme.
I don't use themes because stock is the only really great looking one to me, but there's a Themes List in the Themes and Apps section of the forums.
3. Is it really worth putting a new Rom on? Bootloader? Sorry all very new to me this stuff.
Roms, Recoveries, and Kernels are all very important when it comes to heavy optimization/customization on your device, and it's all very safe and easy on Nexus devices in particular, imo. They heavily impact functionality, speed, and appearance. Basically the Rom is what your operating system is, Recoveries are custom bootloaders that you can flash/backup/wipe/whatever with, and Kernels are like the backbone your Roms run off of.
I've tried a good few of the most popular roms/kernels, and there's a good reason they got that popular. TWRP is almost unarguably the best recovery you could get. ParanoidAndroid is outright the most used custom rom because of it's amazing customizable interface. M-Kernel is about the fastest by a margin and the developer is a cool dude. You can find these three (what I use) and a couple other good things in my signature. There's more detailed instructions if you just search around the forum or wikis or something.
4. What do people use they Nexus for on an average day?
I'm just a generally unbusy teenager, so I use mine for browsing the web, videos, reading, navigation, social networking, gaming, GAMING, file management, even working on documents for school. I know the iPad has a good handful of excellent tablet apps that just aren't really on Android, but there's still not much limitation with what you can do versus a laptop. It fits in your back pocket and the battery is god damn excellent.
5. I want an app that I can draw add notes in but it is seamless with the PC so I can then transfer it to that and work on it in windows (works pc) possibly something like One Note but not One Note.
Evernote? I dunno. I don't really take notes.
6. Where do people get the Nexus fix from? What is your source of information (apart from this wonderful website which I can believe Ive never registered on before)
reddit.com/r/Android is alright, I guess. Most important news surfaces there, and there's the occasional awesome app that recently came out. AndroidPolice is cool. Honestly, I mostly just browse the hell out of this forum and find pretty rad stuff.
7. Best Android browser (flash)
The Android Open Source Project Browser, AOSP Browser for short. It's the stock Android browser for most devices, but for some reason Google decided flashless Chrome would be a better fit, despite being slower and more quirky. The AOSP browser isn't available on any official site, but you can get it Here. Flashing it is easiest, but you can do it with ES File Manager if you wanna feel pro. Also most roms tend to replace Chrome with AOSP or a superior flash-compatible browser, just as a heads up.

Those are actually rather awesome clock widgets, but there's this one that was created by a Google dev called "DashClock" and it's exploded with support and popularity as a suggested replacement to the current bland simple clock. If you search for it in the Play store, it'll show up with loads of optional extensions.
Basically it's like the stock clock, except it allows for extensions and it'll list weather, email, notifications, music, calendar events, alarms, any function you could imagine below it. Apparently a minimal-style list is easier to use than the stupid swiping left and right for additional widgets.
1. What are the best apps to use? What are the apps everyone is using?
- Igag
- Currents (preloaded)
- Mx player is THE video player, it plays everything.
- cloud print, if your printer supports it
- almost every printer nowadays has an app to print and scan too, very useful
- use those 20000 songs you can store in Google cloud - play music
Saves space on N7
- dropbox
- es file explorer
- adownloader (torrent client)
That's what I use daily. Browse trough play store, most of the apps that you know from iDevices are available for android too.
2. What is the best things for Themes? I've heard of Novo and Apex but which one is the best? As a point of knowledge I'm looking for a minimalistic theme.
Its called launcher, kind of like desktop replacement on Linux, but not really. Try the both, but only paid versions offer any real advantages over default launcher. I use nova prime.
Minimalistic themes are useless, they are not very productive, IMHO.

No, not really. You will get a hang of it as you browse xda some more, but keep it stock for now, rooting it is worth it though, for example to remove adds.
4. What do people use they Nexus for on an average day?
Emails, web, series and movies on the go, music player through Bluetooth adapter in the living room, news, games...
And navigation, once I get a suitable car mount.
Its also a great eBook reader, I use Mantano app.
I also use it for video monitoring my baby, using IP webcam on my phone and tinycam monitor on nexus7.
5. I want an app that I can draw add notes in but it is seamless with the PC so I can then transfer it to that and work on it in windows (works pc) possibly something like One Note but not One Note.
Search play store a little, I don't know, I don't use them.
6. Where do people get the Nexus fix from? What is your source of information (apart from this wonderful website which I can believe Ive never registered on before)
Xda is the best, other websites just steal from here mostly. You don't need any other, you belong to us now!
7. Best Android browser (flash)
Chrome for everyday browsing, Firefox beta does flash I think.
You have to find flash apk yourself though, I never need flash.
Try all popular browsers and decide for yourself. I did, and I stuck to chrome.

I hope I won't get into trouble by this. It's just a link to an article after all. And all the nudity is censored.
Checked it out. Best porn app I've seen free version and a 5 dollar lifetime axx for higher res vids.
Think I better get my card out lol

[Q] Gaming on CM10(.1)

Hey Guys,
Im planning to change my phone from I9001(Galaxy S Plus) to I9000(Galaxy S1) since it has more Developers behind it, and has more tweaks, mods and so on.
Im also playing a lot of games like Modern Combat 3, or Modern Combat 4 and i wanted to ask around how it is on CM10(.1)?
On I9001 its very laggy and i cant even play a match to the end without FC´s and stuff.
I searched on youtube, for some gameplays but i can only find Gaming reviews on Froyo or Gingerbread wich i dont want to use.
Thanks for answers and sorry for my bad english!
You might want to consider dual boot, as 4.1/4.2 isn't really suitable for hard gaming.
That way you can run 4.1/4.2 for normal use and boot into an older version for gaming.
Mind you the two OSes don't share system data like sms, mms etc, as far as I know

Hmm. Well seems like i9000 and i9001 are in the same situation then? Atleast i9000 got dualboot.
Still not sure if i should get the i9000 or stay but it looks like more pros than contras..

Try this ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2075637
I use it and I am very satisfied. With 410MB RAM you can play everything.
Best ROM I have tried. And I tried so many

Quick tip if you feel Chrome is running choppy or laggy

One of my few frustrations with the tablet has been a laggy feel while browsing in Chrome. So after a bit of research, try this tweak and see if it feels faster for you:
1. In a new tab, surf to chrome://flags/#max-tiles-for-interest-area
2. Change value from "default" to "512"
3. Click button on bottom that says "relaunch now"
Enjoy!
I'm using the beta and is awesomely smooth

Tested the 10.5" at Bestbuy during the week-end and found Chrome was quite laggy. I installed the Beta (that i usually use on my phone), it was not really better. Scrolling on web sites like dpreview.com wasn't smooth at all.
I have to test again I guess. That prevented me from buying the tablet. For me web browsing experience has to be great a on new tablet.

You have to remember to close all the open apps on those display units at best buy, sometimes almost every app is open lol. The demo unit I tried everything lagged till I closed all those running apps.
That said, my unit at home is smooth on all fronts.
I have the 10" here at home, and that's what I'm experiencing on Chrome Beta, which is what I use.
I think my Nexus 5 has spoiled me.

This trick helped immensely. Thank you for posting it. Now I just need to wait for root for the 8.4 and I'll be able to get rid of some crap to speed it up even more.

The particular item: "#max-tiles-for-interest-area" will be highlighted at the very top of the page in yellow as soon as you enter the address. It's the only thing that will be highlighted. It will say: "Maximum tiles for interest area Mac, Windows, Linux, Chrome OS, Android". Change the option below it.
Thanks it did improve the browsing speed on chrome. I was a bit worried because of the lags. The browsing was faster on my sony tab z then on tab s.. not any more .
I have tried Chrome browser (with max-tiles-for-interest-area = 512) on several 10.5" and always find it quite laggy.
I have closed all apps, etc.
The scrolling on web sites with lot of pictures like dpreview , theverge.com, etc. is definitely not smooth. An iPad air for example is lot more fluid.
I like the 10.5" but not sure to buy it until I see a good web browsing demo on it.
I have found the Next Brower to be very good

My iPad lags bad and even freezes sometimes viewing live blogs. Was about to throw it in the trash but will take advantage of Best Buy $100 trade in offer.
