[Q] use captive as an usb host? - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi , Ive seen some videos of the nokia n8 . And the adapter they have for connecting an usb flash drive is incredible!! , I made some research and its kinda possible in the motorola droid . So Im asking if its possible to do it?
For example , nokia uses this cable: http://www.gadget.pdamu.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/Nokia-N8-HDMI-USB-Cable-Data.jpg
Ive also seen that chinese tablets copys uses adapters for connecting usb flash drives.
So , just want to know if its possible!
thanks !! , btw sorry for my english!

The moto droid says that kernel drivers are needed - also as USB host the phone wants to supply 5v power on USB port.
it may be possible, but a lot of work. Even the Moto Droid is not fully functioning yet.

HOST USB or USB HDMI Video Card ? Any way to use usb port to use usb devices ?

Usb port is it locked or there is possibility to use it like usb host ?
To manage copy pictures of a camera to phone without pc by usb adaptator.
Samsung talked about usb 2 hdmi cable and think if its real it use some usb video card supported by phone(because of physic material imcompatibily of hdmi nd usb)
May there is a way to dev a tool or hack to get it works...
Aah!! Finally somebody like minded!!
I had been scouring forums for something like this. USB OTG would be an excellent add on to this phone. If not OTG, at least host would be an excellent idea.
No idea whether the existing USB Host driver for Nexus one would work on this one.
The processor on SGS already supports USB Host (not sure about OTG though). This has been pointed out in their press release - w w w .samsung.com/global/business/semiconductor/newsView.do?news_id=1043
I am just wondering - should we request Samsung themselves via mass petition to open up this feature on SGS?
some USB devices might be compatible, like the 100/1000 Mbps USB to RJ45 plugs
those same ones works in Windows Mobile it should work as well for Android, however a driver will be required.
mouse and keyboard support should work out of the box
external USB keys for storage, or even USB mass storage devices should work out of the box as well.
usb audio... hmm... not sure what else at the moment
Hi AllGamer
Thanks for the reply. So how exactly do we get this going on SGS?
I am much more interested in having USB HDD support on SGS (hopefully without an ext power source - am I asking for too much? ).
Are you suggesting that the N1 fix should work here also? Can somebody help us with a "How To" to enable this on SGS?
Cheers!!

you can plug in any USB mass storage devices (USB hard drives) and it should work.
However, you might not get enough power from the usb port, you'll still need need power cord for your external usb hard drive.
I know on my HTC windows phones works like that, it should be the same for Android.
I'll try that when i get a chance.
you just a need a USB female to a mini USB male cable
yep!! you are right about power!!! I am trying to get a cable - hopefully in couple of weeks should have this.
but I am wondering if all this would work without proper drivers in it. Would SGS have USB HDD drivers in it already?

I can see one problem, You will only be able to use Fat32 drives unless someone compiles NTFS / HFS+ into the kernel. Ext3/4 is already done so I don't see many problems. What I recommend you do is get some sort of adaptor for Female USB > Micro USB and test it out with a flash stick or you can hack one .
Yeah - I understand the difficulties of having NTFS support outside the MS world.
I didnt know that ext3/4 were already a part of the kernel!! Is this by default available in all Android kernels?
For USB Host cable - I am guessing that this one can be used - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250671106072 (same as what Sven used for N1 USB Host capabilities).
But I seriously doubt plug and play would work (that would be too much of an expectation! )
Does any body have that cable here, who can check out if SGS does actually work in USB Host/OTG mode?
Sven has try with a Galaxy another Host Driver

Hm what can we do with these files?
However, any news about this?
Maybe, we could ask some Galaxy S kernel developers about this.

OTG USB @RaZR i

Hello,
i saw some youtube videos how people used a Y-USB-cable to connect a USB Keyboard to a razr i .. Y-cable because the razrI doesnt give power out of the micro-usb, so they plugged power on one of the connections of the y-cable.. then the razr could communicate with the usb-keyboard...
now my question, isnt it possible to use somthing like this http://www.pearl.de/a-HZ2087-4034.shtml?vid=917&gclid=CKzmmfuh2bUCFcJZ3godSQ4A_w .. this is a connector for the samsung g2 to plug in different things (which also needs power) ??
why isnt it possible an the razr, but on th SG2???
greets
If it has no external power source I'd doubt it would work.

Htc desire 626s usb otg capabilities?

Hi, i recently rooted my phone and used the Post in the forums to do so, here is a pic of the kernal and all that. My question is why can i still not use my otg? Downloaded host diag, checker, helper, nothing is working. Can someone please tell me where to go from here? There are spaces so i could post the url.

seems kernel doesn't have the driver for it also the phones board doesn't supply power to the cable so you would need a y cable to supply power. Im still waiting for HTC to post the kernel source so I can make the modifications I need to it. It's been almost a month since they said they elevated my request for the source to their dev team if its not posted in a week I'm going to write them again.
There is a app I saw the other day called "stick" something that enabled phones with no otg support to use one. It was in a YouTube video about must have root apps , sorry I couldn't help more than this. I did order an otg cable after watching it.
Ok, ill look to see if it works
Nope. Still won't work. Power must be supplied for it to be registered to the phone.
E]Well i bought a powered otg y cable plug in usb portto charger the other end to my phone and the other to my usb 128gb.. nothing
still diesnt detect but it does on my samsung . So it must be the phone not the cable

I had no luck with a powered Y-cable either. I got OTG to work with my XT894 only after connecting a powered USB hub to my OTG cable, then connecting a USB flash drive to the hub.

Question A Redmi Note 11 on Ethernet via an adapter

HI,
did someone succeed plugging a Redmi Note 11 on Ethernet with and adapter?
Not the Pro version, I've seen a video where the Pro one works.
It doesn't work through my USB A to Ethernet adapter, plugged with small a USB C to USB C adapter.
It would may be work with a USB C to Ethernet adapter but I'm not sure.
Thanks
hello, yes it's work well on SPES/N : i use
this USB/ETHERNET

Thanks a lot for your help. how can I find out the ROM I have on the phone?
The phone is not rooted. By he way the customer service said it's impossible.
It's weird it doesn't work for me with an adapter as the ones you show. But voila. I'll have to test with other adapters, sure.
okay, I know : https://xiaomiui.net/how-to-find-miui-rom-region-4994/
the displayed rom is "SGKEUXM", not the same as yours, then.
generally with a custom ROM this kind of adpater works (i'm on LINEAGE OS unofficial)
What do you mean by a custom ROM. Are you talking about a rooted phone?
I rooted a 3GS Iphone more than ten years ago. I'm not up to date anymore on those things what benefits did you get rooting you phone?
It seems that it defintely doesn't work with the ROM I have. Could I do something? root the phone ? Thanks. I probably won't do it right away, but it can be interesting to know.
