hello everyone,
i am trying to port the HTC_IME to a 240x320 res phone, (their is a current one floating around on here but it looks funky) so i have the .png files all resized and thats working fine the keyboard predicts and everything just fine but in each of the keys the letters are just slightly too big, what file controls the size of that
if not could anybody tell me which file controls the size of the keys to make them bigger?
also if its an xml file what would be the best way to go about making the changes?
Why not just rip off the wildfire one?

so the one for the cm build is the same as the one we already have and it looks really odd, as far as pulling it directly i dont think you can i thought it needs the roise framework to run

I love the AOSP build, but I'd like to change some of it...
Is it possible to get the sense keyboard on it (I HATE the vanilla one)?
And how do I remove the background on the lockscreen?
thanks for any help!

I believe to do much of this you need to modify the source. For the Sense keyboard you need the HTC frameworks which essentially makes the system an HTC Sense system anyway. I know back in the day Cyanogen released an HTC_IME.apk that would work standalone but I never got it to work on AOSP.
For the lockscreen, I believe this is part of the AOSP source as well but someone will need to confirm that for me.

I figured that much. I just don't know what .apk's to push. I flashed the signed IME from that new thread about stock Rosie, but it did nothing
I figure the lockscreen is just an image somewhere that I need to edit. I know the 2.1 build has a clear vanilla lock.
What don't you like about the keyboard? I think its just as good as the HTC one. Once you get the dictionary working properly that is. I posted up a thread just the other day on predictive text. Flips sent a link where you can get an updated IME file. Check it out. If you're still not happy, check out better keyboard apk from the market.

the layout is WAY off. and, the lack of a 'keyboard close' button, i cannot stand. plus, with the HTC one, i don't have to hit a button to get to my punctuation...
i've flashed the IME and that helped (i'm glad he had all the curse words. lol) but i'm still against the general layout...
i'm in love with the AOSP because its so minimal on the system memory that it makes my phone quick as lightning. i just want a clear lock screen and the Rosie keyboard...
Hey, I'm trying to make a advanced Sense UI taskbar for metamorph... one of the images is bigger in resolution (not file size), than the original image... well lets say it bricked the launcher from running when applied.
Is there a file in the launcher.apk that gives size restrictions?
Thanks! I can't wait to get this done so you all can use it!
is this impossible, or no one knows? i need to know...
NOW ROBOTO FONT!
Now I've included new font straight from Google: ROBOTO. That font is very nice, but it is not exactly designed for older android. It is simply to big. So I made sligthly smaller version and then my little magic condensation. I made my goal in 100%: IT LOOKS AMAZING!!!
Just look at last screenshot.
Kalagas: The best font I have ever used in 2 years I have android devices...
Good work... very good...
It's exactly what it's needed...
Thanks a lot...
You can change font with 'font changer' from android market. Just extract archive to /sdcard/.fontchanger/. Then you must delete DefaultFont.ttf and DefaultFont-Bold.ttf from /system/fonts by yourself.
>>> MANUAL INSTALL
- go to /system/fonts
- Press "Mount R/W" if it is not already writable
- copy segoeThanNarrow.ttf over DroidSans.ttf
- copy segoeThanNarrow-Bold.ttf over DroidSans-Bold.ttf
- DELETE DefaultFont.ttf and DefaultFont-Bold.ttf
- REBOOT
-----------------------------
SEGOE-THAN:
This one is compilation of three different Segoou fonts. My idea was to create font which:
- will look much better and cleaner then DroidSans
- has the same metrics as DroidSans to perfectly fit in every program and HTC Sense (Lock Screen especially). I've done it by copying every metrics from DroidSans and then I fitted font to that metrics. This makes small letters much bigger in the same way as in original DroidSans.
- is slightly bolder then DroidSans
- is slightly narrower then DroidSans to fit more text (this is really nice!)
- looks better then DroidSans
- has every character from UTF-8
UPDATE (20-01-2011): some metrics corrected so g,j, etc are no longer cutted in some programs.
UPDATE (16-03-2011): corrected some more metrics in BOLD, renamed everything in font so it displays correctly in some programs (for example in Firefox).
UPDATE (12-04-2011): corrected sizes of CAPS letters, better accented characters, polished many characters by hand. Corrected fitting text when bold/not bold is mixed. Finally it looks perfect for me! Fits perfectly in every program I checked! New screenshots added!
UPDATE (04-05-2011): version 1.4 - small boxes doesn't appear in some programs and after ... (three dots) anymore.
UPDATE (05-05-2011): small version added. LOOKS GORGEOUS!!! And you got about 20% more text fitted everywhere for free!
UPDATE (11-05-2011): version 1.4.1 - finally there are no small boxes AND no spaces "for" them in any program! One archive for two fonts. Screenshots are now taken with small version.
UPDATE (15-06-2011): version 1.4.1 - one small fix. Doesn't need new version number
-----------------------------
TREBUCHET-THAN:
UPDATE (12-05-2011): version 1.0 - RELEASE. Trebuchet correctly fitted to Android. No small boxes etc. Should be OK. Small version also included.
UPDATE (15-06-2011): version 1.1 - updated metrics to new version and added some corrections.
-----------------------------
CANDARA-THAN:
UPDATE (11-07-2011): version 1.0 - RELEASE. Several changes was made to that font to look and fit great on Android.
UPDATE (12-07-2011): after request I added semibold version (just as my segoe than is). It is included in one archive. I personally like normal version more. I don't know why . EDIT: normal version corrected as it had wrong degree symbol.
-----------------------------
(15-06-2011)
I've added screenshot from fontchanger where you can see all my fonts on one screen.
(11-07-2011)
Added one screenshot taken with CandTHAN set as system font and new screenshot from fontchanger with CandTHAN set as system.
Screenshots below:
First taken with SegoeTHAN SMALL
second taken with Candara THAN
last taken with RobotoTHAN

It looks quite good but... any clue why I keep getting "square" characters at the end of some program's name? Strange...

Well, it looks like the font itself is ok. There has to be somthing wrong with encoding or something else. BTW, I'm experiencing same issue with other fonts too. Who knows...

Yep, not directly related to the font itself. But I cannot understand what's wrong with (just some) apps' names...
Not sure if that was last font update or having installed cyanogenmod7, but no more "squares"!

You don't need to flash. You need to have root and 'font changer lite' from Market. Copy those fonts to /sdcard/.fontchanger and run 'font changer lite', tap on this font and reset.
Thanks! Excellent and easy!
you are welcome!

Any Idea whats named the Fontstyle ?
Edit..
Okay i found the font 7th but to big for dhd
Very good work...
I use it my DHD for 2 days now and i like much more that the default fonts...
This is a really nice looking font, thanks for making it. It looks like a lot of time and effort went into it.
Unfortunately apps in the pull down menu use bold text, and this font seems to be wider than stock when bold. So the descriptive text for some apps (JuiceDefender for example) is too wide, and disappears off the right side of the screen.
Edit: Sorry, ignore the above, it was just one mode in Juice Defender, and the same thing happened with stock font.
I've just checked and in fact my font in bold is much narrower then original Droid Sans bold.

Loving the font.
The app fontchanger is verry good to change fonts No need to flash.
Has anyone had success with the LDC Density app? My friend used it on his galaxy s it was pretty cool
I tried it and my phone just froze. Had to do a battery pull to fix it.
Yes, im rooted.
this has been answered multiple times in a few thread.
maybe if you tried searching you'd have an answer.
Froze on my rooted TB with Adrynalyne's Rom. Curious to see if anyone has this working.
Didn't work for me either. Just manually edited /system/build.prop to change it around. Messes with the look of the Sense Clock Widget, and certain skins for the SenseUI.

where in the build.prop do you edit the file?
nm found the line. it was obvious enough
FWIW 190 has been a good number for me. I was at 200 for awhile, set it at 190 today and it runs pretty well.
So I take it you aren't running Sense then? Because anything lower than 240 messed up the flip clock and some of the themes bar at the bottom.
I am sure I am not alone when I say this but does anybody know why the fonts on the screen are so massive? Was this phone originally intended for people with failing vision?
Why, with such a lot of real estate, doesn't htc squeeze in more info into the screen so that we lessen scrolling? Beats the hell out of me.... Its irritating to say the least. The net effect is that I have a bigger phone than the inc but I have exactly the same amount of info on the screen. I really do not see the point...
Rant over - now how do we lower font size and line spacing without messing everything up. Any easy fixes? In the uber z rom for the inc, gmichaelow made a zip that changed font sizes and line spacing to much lower levels without messing anything up. So its possible. LCD density is definitely not the answer.

I thought the exact same thing, my Droid has a higher resolution than the Thunderbolt (480x854 for OG Droid vs. 480x800 for Thunderbolt). Everything was blown up like crazy. I don't understand why they wouldn't have gone higher for a crisper look to rival the sleek look of the iPhone. There should be font packs out there, but I'm not sure where yet. Lowering my density to 190 definitely looks a lot better for everything but the notification bar icons. I'm going to look into smaller fonts as well, but for now, I'm happy with the lowered density, as it also makes things on screen look more crisp.
I've heard people talk about this in the past, but never fully understood what it did? Any explanation of what this actually does is appreciated. Thanks in advance
Just look at my picture compared to the stock setup. Mine is much crisper and smaller. It's like upping the resolution basically.

Lcd density just hangs on my phone. I'm running storm. Anybody else manage to get it working on that rom?

Does anyone have themes out for specific lowered densities? I have found that when I lower the density, the bottom dock (Where the phone, app tray and personalize button are) looks disconnected and not very nice. Only thing holding me back.
Is there a way to keep with the stock launcher and theme it so it fits or would I be forced to switch to another launcher to alleviate that problem?
going to give this a try and see how it goees
i tried 225, 220, 210 and would rather just leave it at stock 240 than have blurry status bar icons...that drives me nuts and makes the phone look like ****..the rest of the screen looked perfect at 225 for me tho..
I run at 190. I used to run at 140 on my dinc. I hate big resolutions. I don't use the sense launcher so I don't have aproblem with it getting messed up

Use root explorer, find build.prop, open it in a text editor, change the line that says LCD density. Save and exit, reboot. Done.

Yeah thats what I meant by manually changing the build prop.
I'm using one of the stock HTC Sense 2.5 skins as a basis for a custom skin. I'm using apktool to access the files and build my updated apk file. I've found a lot of the the things I want to replace, but I'm a bit stumped on where to find some of the button backgrounds and background panels (I don't see anything that looks exactly like these in any of the subfolders for the skin I'm working with). I'm attaching two screen shots with big orange arrows pointing to the specific parts I'm looking for. I'd greatly appreciate it if anyone can point me to where these items are located and what they are called.
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer.
Id say look in the htccamera.apk, framework, settings, htc res or system ui! Its so hard to find the correct png from all the different locations? Ive been in & out of the Rom frameworks & have modded my phone ui but those ones dont ring a bell sorry mate
Thanks. I hadn't thought of checking any of those files since these specific items seem to change according to the skin. I'll dig through them (especially the framework one, and see what I can find).
I am also interested in modify icons (specialy on my home screen) and cud you tell me what soft to use? Tku in advance

look in the folders like i said in post #2 plus try settings, rosie, ect.... you can mod almost any apk & png files, just dont mod the htc_ime.apk! Anything goes wrong.... just reflash the rom before you had problems
