Coming out of "Airplane mode" seems to lock/disable my SIM card, causing "Emergency calls only" to be displayed. I do not even get the option of entering my PIN so the only way around it is a reboot. Anyone else experience this? Not having to do a hard-reset would be preferable

Me too, I fly a lot and I thought maybe my sim card was loose. I usually have to pull the battery and reinsert the sim card to get it to work again. Annoying....

Hi,
I tried to make my Touch Diamond able to hot swap the sim card, so I cut off the two little plastic thingies that prevents you from changing the sim without taking out the battery first.
This actually works. If I turn off the cellular radio, then swap the SIM card, turn the radio back on, it switches, and it WORKS
BUT! .. only for 2G SIMs .. if I put in a 3G SIM it says "no sim card".
Why is that? Is there a fix for this? Has anyone tried?

My N1 randomly loses the cellular network and I see the triangle with the exclamation mark in the notification area.
I am not sure it's relevant but my N1 (a refurb from HTC) does have a dodgy SIM card slot since I need to stuff a piece of paper on top of the SIM card in order for it to be registered. Still once that's done and the back is on, there is no problem.
Anyway I will look down at the phone and see that I have lost the network. If I go to Mobile Networks/Network Operators I get an error "Error Registering on Network" or words to that effect.
The only solution is for me to either switch to Flight Mode, switch back to online mode and redo the search. The various networks usually then appear and I can choose my home carrier. A reboot of the phone also works.
This suggests to me that it has nothing to do with the SIM slot and it must be some other issues. I am running an unrooted phone on 2.3.4.
Any ideas appreciated.
Thanks
I'm not sure but I think it is probably related I would call htc and see if they can take a look at it cause for one they should not have given you a phone with a faulty sim card slot and it probably brought along some other problems.
Just now randomly my ONE started saying in the notifications "No Sim Card" "4G LTE will not work as SIM/UICC is restricted. And I also get a pop up message when I try to use the internet saying LTE is disabled because no sim card and only CDMA is available.
It appears that there is a fix for this. It's a common problem and the fix is called the "tape fix." put two pieces of scotch tape on back of sim and cut around the sim card. put it back in tray and reinsert into your one. Now it works! like magic. The problem is HTC sim connectors being poorly mounted. Here's the link to the fix:

I've experienced an issue with the signal constantly dropping and gaining when using a gsm sim card.
Restarting the phone doesn't help. triggering airplane mode doesn't help either.
First time i put t-mobile sim card in, it works for a few hours and this happens since then. sometimes i try putting in my friends' sim cards in and it works for a few minutes.might this be a software problem?
this is a short video of the issue in case you can't imagine what I'm talking about youtu.be/nOw3jZyiNBA
Hey I for some unknown reason cant connect to my network whatsoever. No 3rd party roms nothing just the most recent Lolipop update. Sim card is in lock screen says emergency calls only. Network operators all options are greyed out. Here is the weird part. Under APN's it tells me there is no sim card when the screen loads, however when i eject the sim card and put it back in its not until i eject it that the rest of the phone recognizes there is no sim card. Did my sim card fry or what do you think?
Some answers found solo
so i pulled an app off play to check the info of my sim card and lo and behold there appears to be nothing on the card whatsoever. anyone have a suggestion for an app that is known to be current and working for this just in case its the app?

Simplest would be to go in store and ask another sim card just to test it. Looks like a bad sim card or maybe an hardware problem with the sim contacts
