Overclocking Motorola Milestone / Milestone XT / Droid / Droid X - Motorola Droid and Milestone Q&A, Help & Troublesh

Milestone Overclock consists of a kernel module for OMAP3 phones with Android to unlock any processor frequency/voltage combination and a companion graphical app to ease the configuration. The phone must be rooted so that the kernel module can be loaded.
The module has an interface in /proc/overclock/* that allows enabling and disabling of overclock in runtime without rebooting. No flashing of custom roms or kernels is needed, since that is not even possible with the Milestone, Droid X and others.
Supported Phones
Motorola Droid
Motorola Droid X
Motorola Milestone A853/A854
Motorola Milestone XT701/XT702/XT720/XT800/XT800W

Milestone has root, so what does that mean?

OK so I have been using the Droid since it's release and been rooted and ran just about every rom and kernel combo there is. I have an eris which is also rooted. I got the X the first day and like all been playing with the rumors of "is root a possibility" and if so are we talking like 12 months for it? I hear the boot loader is locked just like the milestone, do to encryption. I look around and the milestone is rooted already. So what exactly am I missing here for rooting only the new X, just trying to bypass the eFuse with a valid signature?
I mainly want root to remove moto blur and other non-useful apps "imho", although, CM6 with an hdmi driver for 3rd party apps would be nice as well.
So what should I be researching for rooting the X besides, when the milestone gets root so will we approach?
thanks,
shaun

From what I've been reading is you can't hack the kernal. You can add kernel modules but you can't hack the actual kernel. That means you can't use roms that are not based off that kernal, you can't optimize the kernel, and other things that most custom roms fix. So no Froyo until Motorola releases it and no changing settings that have already been made.

Droid X rooted, can it be done to Milestone?

I've been reading forums that the Droid X has the same bootloader as the Motorola Milestone. Recently the Droid X has been rooted by Birdman (found on the droid-life website). Just a crazy thought, couldn't this be done to the Milestone as well if both devices are using the same bootloader?

ahh, milestone has already been rooted for a while, its just that the bootloader is locked and no custom rom, i think the Droid X has a signed bootloader like milestone.
The Milestone has already been rooted, for a while now.
Gaining root access on the phone does not affect the bootloader, rooted or unrooted, we can't load custom ROMs, and neither can the DROID X.
hey , yea the same method used to root Droid X could be used on our Stone in fact his si an old bug and it works on most Android phone ,,, I wonder why we waited 6 month to have root on our stone while this bug was there all along but anyways it doesnt give us nothing new ...
The Milestone has been rooted since 2.0.1 (or 2.0, not sure).

if the bootloader was finally cracked.....

would we be able to install all the droid roms that are available or would we have to install milestone specific rom creations?

We'll have to install specific ROMs for Milestone, because the Droid is a CDMA phone, while the Milestone is a GSM phone.

Moto Droid Android 2.3 Progress?

I have a Motorola Droid1 that I haven't rooted but would to get some gingerbread action. Is anyone working on a working rom? Or is there a rom I just couldn't find? I know the Droid Eris has one so I figured the Droid would be able to handle it. Links would be great!
Sent from my Droid using XDA App

Check CM7 alpha build for droid!
Yeah for DROID not for Milestone
i think i saw a gingerbread rom somewhere in the motorola development area, and i think its stock, so no CM mods unfortunately, but might be more stable than the alpha
There are two unstable builds getting some attention. They're quite unfinished, and most people probably wouldn't want to use them as their production ROM.
ROMs that have a Gingerbread look to them (such as CM and BB) for the Droid are still based on 2.2.1 (Froyo) with custom themes.

Root Check in the RAZR, RAZR MAXX & DROID 4 ICS

Hi,
Thought I'd pass on an interesting article in Android Police hat Motorola implemented a visual Root Checker in ICS for it's phones. So far it's been found in the RAZR, RAZR MAXX, DROID 4 and the test builds of the Bionic.
According to the article, one a phone is rooted a status change in written that displays in the phone's recovery menu.
"1/1" means currently rooted
"0/0" means never rooted
"0/1" means not presently rooted but was
Here's the link to the article:

Another reason to leave Moto phones and go elsewhere.
so how does one find this root checker?
It will be right on the recorvery screen.
We have it on Bionic ICS, too. It's awesome. lol.
