hello guys!

Now that i have done the one click rooting to my phone"nexus one 2.2 Froyo with ""universal androot"" I was just wondering what would be the BEST rom to install on my phone. What advice would you give me with your experiences. what extra things do i need to consider putting on my phone. what would be a good security apps to hold intruders from getting in my phone..i have heard of overclocking but have no clue as to set it up and at what frequency...I would like to keep my hot-spot , perhaps increase the sound quality and have a 720 cap camera just to name a few.Any help would be greatly appreciated
Regards
I've got Cyanogenmod 6 on mine and I've loving it. Fast, stable, and looks great!
cool.now my question to you is where do i get a safe link to download and what are the steps to do so..thanks for your feed back
Go to Development section and read. Each ROM has a thread containing instructions for installation.
I suggest Enomther's ROM.
hey!!!
I am so happy.I tried into recovery mode but I could not find the rom there.did not know if i had to rename it or....anyways ...i went into the rom manager that I had downloaded from there the whole thing was self explanatory.I did download the cyanogenmod 6 fist and then the kernel .wow this is amazing .I wish I had done that a long long time ago.My contribution to this great team is on the way ang in the near future!! thanks guys!!
Nice going! Where did u find universal androot?
so if i use this on my unrooted nexus one 2.2, i can get root access apps?
Im not interested in custom roms just want to uninstall apps like amazon and twitter and use apps like titanium backup.
Will i receive OTA updates? and you can un-root right?

Newbie here. Froyo 2.2 question.

I have the samsung captivate at 2.1 and it is rooted and has sideloading enabled where I can install non-market apps from my usb card. I want to update to Froyo 2.2. I have been reading but getting different answers about rooting and sideloading Froto 2.2 original leak. Also I have backed up my phone.
1.Can Froyo 2.2 original leak be rooted and sideloaded with this file?(superoneclickv1.5.4)
2.Is this the file for the original Froyo 2.2?(I897UCJI6-OCD-REV02-Low-designgears)
I want to say this is my first android phone and these things are nice. I used to only use windows mobile phones, but now...... hello android.
I would like to say thank you to all the people for the guides and help that make it possible for me to play with this fun phone.

To be honest, I think the latest cognition ROM is way better than the leaked froyo. Faster, smoother, just better. And cognition of course has sideloading enabled.
Coginition question?
I read a little about the coginition roms. They seem really nice but could you answer a few questions.
1.Can you start out with the lastest rom first?
2.I read that it is really hard to go back to your original flash enev if you have a backup.(I did make a backup.)
3.I am not being a smartass but, could you please answer my first questions in my first post please.
Thank you for replying so fast.

If you update to the latest Cognition roms, you wouln't even have to root and enable side-loading.Everything is already built in.

Yes that is the leaked JI6 Froyo firmware, and is also one click odin.
Thank you
Thank you for answering my question.
If i was you I would leave 2.1 and add side loading, lagfix remove blootware and you got a pretty good set up, I have flashed most of the Roms here and I wont say with one is the best becouse each one has it flaws and I think just the leaked Frito has the most bugs tho design gears is basing his cog on it so he fixes stuff as he goes

Thank you for your reply. Which lagfix would you recommend?

[Q] Home Screen

First of all I am a noob but reading your threads, i was able to root my captivate and install cognition v2.3b8 on my phone... everything works great... i have a dumb question... the new setup came with 6 home screen/ windows... i want to delete all the windows/screens and just keep one... but after long search have been unable to find a way. Can somebody please help. Thanks
You need to find a launcher in the market that you like and stick with that so you are not always at the whim of the developer with regard to the launcher included in the rom. The launcher included in that rom is not customizable...at least not in a user friendly way.
Thanks
Ok that makes... any recommendations for the launcher? Something that keeps the original look
zeam is my favorite and worth trying

If you're a complete noob the easiest way to get a gingerbread look on your captivate would be flashing a theme package the same way you flashed your rom.
The best and safest way for a beginner I think is to follow a youtube video and this one shows you all the steps with a preview of what you're about to install. But as said before you need to have ClockworkMod the same method you probably used for flashing your rom.

[Q] Clean-up N7000XXLA6

I've had this Australia Note (carrier free) for a few days now and would like to remove some of the bloat that I do not use/want just to clean it up a little:
E.g
Ap Mobile
Accuweather
Buddies Now
Yahoo Finance (why is this on there?)
Social Hub
I'm on:
Baseband Version: N7000XXLA4
Kernel Version: 2.6.35-7-N7000XXLA6-CL907341
[email protected]#2
Can anyone suggest a course of action (with simplified steps) to get rid of all of this while keeping original functionality?
Thank's.
hey there buddy i feel your pain and sadly i can only give u some bad news followed by possible solution to your problem.. the apps you mentioned are all fixed and cannot be removed from what i have learned past year here but the only option i can suggest you is download titanium backup and pay the 5.99 usd and upgrade to pro.. then u can freeze all those apps for the experience u are wanting.. unfortunately cannot delete those apps without causing issues best is what i suggested.. trust me titanium backup pro will come in much more handy down the road not just for freezing bloatwares but backing up all apps and restoring together unlike any other app out there.. Highly recommended for every android user

oh yeah its the first requirement and it skipped my mind..lol sorry
even i just got my note 2 days back with LA4 after having used SGS2 for over a year.. really missing ICS on the S2.. still familiarizing myself with various issues with this phone to be sorted out like had to do with s2 year back..
you can either flash a KJ1 fw since your current LA4 cannot be rooted..
i also found this very helpful thread with rooted repacked odexed fws please give this a read also as i am currently doing might be less time consuming than the downgrading method.. still unsure! always helps to scavenge the forums and ask members for help since XDA is such a welcoming and friendly community

cheers
(A belated) Thanks!
Devil and Bayu:
Apologies for the late reply - life just took over for a while there. I'm normally straight in on these things.
Well thanks for the info - you've put my suspicions to rest. LA6 is not as straight forward as others. So I'm going to leave it as it is for now and perhaps root up sometime in the future and live with these dirty little bloats for now (I hate all this muck inside my toy really).
As for the future - I'm actually very happy with the stability of Gingerbread and just wondering if it's REALLY worth upgrading to ICS when it comes out OTA ?
I'm not the type that must have the latest and greatest OS BUT if it means that ICS will improve things for me, eg. battery (of all things), fluidity, etc... then It might be worth it.
Im interested on what you think about the official ICS samsung upgrade on the GT N700?
Will it be easier to root the ICS version when it arrives ?
you can remove the apks from /system/app to get rid of them
providing you have root access

[Q] StockROM?

Hello!
Im new to android story so please excuse my stupid questions.
I would like to install the barest version of gingerbread on my phone. Where to find it? Im not clear if stock mod is what i have on my phone now (original) or is it android without the preinstalled apps that i cant uninstall? I Would like the version without any preinstalled apps.
And since im meddling with my phone, what do you think is the best kernel to use with bare gingerbread?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2198341
Gingerbread is Android 2.3. The S Advance has Android 4.1.2 available for it (AKA Jellybean). Follow the above guide to upgrade to Jellybean, and if you want you can also install a custom kernel or ROM.
Stock ROM Gingerbread 2.3.6

Stock Rom is a System Rom which comes preinstalled in your particular android device when you buy it. Stock Rom is preinstalled by the manufacturer of that particular device such as Samsung, Nokia, Sony etc.
If you have Gingerbread 2.3.6 just do a factory reset and from Settings > Application Manager > force stop unwanted apps.
What you want is unclear in your post. What I could realize from your writing that you want a fresh Gingerbread to flash your device.
You can download official Gingerbread 2.3.6 from here. Choose OS version 2.3.6
where do u live? what is the official release for your device there?

Thank you for your replies people.
What I want is to install fresh gingerbread, but some kind of bare version, non samsungs version like i have now. Without preinstalled apps that i cant uninstall. Is that even possible?
What im asking is how is such bare version called and where to find it? and since im doing that i thought i could upgrade kernel but i m new to whole meddling with android thing so i thought i could ask which kernel is good to use with this version of gingerbread?
I live in croatia. There is no croatian version on the page above, besides, those are all samsung versions, like the original on my phone, right?
By bare version, I'm guessing you mean like stock android version like the nexus have. Unfortunately for this device, we don't have the stock android firmware. For GB, even the custom roms you found here is based on stock samsung firmware. So, there will be some samsung apps preinstalled in the custom rom.
If you upgrade to Jellybean 4.1.2, you can try the latest CM 10.1 nightlies (although it is not recommended for newbies, as it is still test builds but has gotten to a pretty stable version). Cyanogen (CM) roms are built from source and it is very similar to stock android interface.

Thanks. Thats what i wanted to know.
I ended up on this forum becouse i wanted to install new cyanogen, but after some reading here it seems that GB is still better option in terms of battery and performance. So i concluded that best bet would be gingerbread without the bloatware. Maybe ill try some GB based rom.
Anyway, i hope this information will be useful to someone else also. Or delete the thread if thats the practice on this forum.
One last question. Im pretty sure i know the answer but better be safe. If I root my phone, i will be able to unistall all the apps that were preinstalled that i cant uninstall now?

Yes, you can. You're granted with superuser access by rooting your phone. So you will be able to remove any app and play with your device anyway you want. :good:
Rooting Gingerbread is a bit tricky for newbies. Follow the guide in the following link
