There is a serious bug with the built in phone app , I was wondering whether any of you are suffering this.
When you dial a number manually and hit the arrow to delete one of the digits, the phone goes berzerk, starts dialing loads of 0pw00's and locks up.
Same happens when scrolling through the contacts on the phone app (not the standard contacts app) and tapping the forward hardkey to change from say a Mobile number to a Home number for the listed contact
Nop just tried it all is good.
Not experienced that problem, but i have experienced another problem in the phone app.
when you select a contact in the phone app, and push either left or right on the scroll wheel to select the next available number in the contact, i.e. business, home, mobile2, etc, it will just keep scrolling until you reset the phone. really annoying if you want to select a number other than the default number for the contact.

Yes Yes! I just tested it and it happens.
The thing is, I managed to break out of the loop.. Not sure how, but I kinda repeatedly pressed all the HW buttons, etc
Now I can't reproduce it.. hmmmm

happens here also but only if i try changing the number with the "go right" button. "go left" works. interesting because it is the third ROM and in all 3 of them i had the same problem.
My problem go so worse that I could not press any hardware buttons in the phone app. Sadly I had to hard reset. Now the problem has disappeared, but I have yet to install any apps onto my device..
I have none of the above problems

Got the same problem on the call history but not all the time
French rom 1.37.406.1
Got another two annoying bugs:
- the clock that show minutes after minutes non stop (1Minute per second)
- a part of screen not updating on the SMS/MMS application
Okay the bug has returned sadly... After I spent hours reinstalling all of my apps.
The problem is not limited to the phone app, it happens when I tap any key on the SIP or press any hardware button - a bunch of text is pasted.
I created a txt document and tapped a button so I could copy all of the crap it pastes,
it is attached
This is driving me nuts and makes the phone unusable. Im certain this is the fault of software rather than hardware. Can anyone help?

To me it seems like one of the 3rd party apps that you installed is causing this. If it was me, after a hard reset I would test it after installing each app to find the guilty one.

Same here. But luckily I don't have to reset the phone. By pressing some buttons randomly I get it out of the loop. But it's annoying all the same! Doesn't happen every time though... that's quite strange. Don't know why it goes wrong, so I can't do anything about it.
i have the same problem!! hope the coming new rom can help!
Could be a third party app, I thought. So curiously I went through my installed apps list. First on the list was remote desktop mobile (the new version with the device mapping feature which doesnt actually work) - So, I uninstalled that and voila, the bug has disappeared.
Bad news is that I really need remote desktop. Perhaps I installed a bad CAB. Anyone have a decent cab that is proven to work?

hi guy's long time lurker first time poster...
i'm having a problem with all sms sending 'failing' when ever i've got packet data turned on. its not something i've ever come across on any of my previous devices... any nudge in the right direction will be very welcomed.
p.s i'm on t-mobile uk if that make any difference.
Thanks in advance
john
check your APN settings and MMS settings.
They are sharing the same apn, but i've been playing with the setting (all know variations) but still every time i use packet data it will always fail to send any sms's.
It's becoming very annoying to have to manually connect every time i want to use some data.

Hey!
Just ask from you mobile provider, what must be your APN settings. In 2.3.4 you must ALWAYS put the APN settings manually. If you added them, save and pick it. ALL DONE!
CHEERS!
thanks i'll give it ago, was just using the setting they sent me over the air and already in sim card, will input manually when i get home, and let you know.
Thanks again for the help.
Edit: no this didn't work either, now im really peeved(lol). can't for the life of me think what else it could be. would flashing the wrong modem file cause this? as its all i can think that is left to try....

Hey!
THX man, but you not need to thank always(thx anyway ). If you dont get you problem fixed, you can try others STOCK firmwares. Sometimes it takes a lot of flashing, but it can help sometimes too.
CHEERS!
yeah flashing to 2.2.1 fixed it but i want to use FirstUA-ROM-v1.2 do you think theres a way round it?
p.s i always thank those that try to help me.
Same issue
I have the same problem, bud.
Updated my Ace to Gingerbread and found I couldn't send SMS with Packet Data turned on. Turn it off and SMS sends OK. I'm with Virgin (UK) which I believe is the same network as T-Mobile.
Re-flashed Froyo and all works as it used to. After that, I fired up Kies as I hoped to get an official version that way and sure enough it said there was a firmware update available so I installed that. Turned out to be the official Samsung Gingerbread and yet again i broke SMS when Packet Data was turned on.
I'm back to Froyo once more and have emailed Virgin to ask if they can offer any advice. I notice another report of this issue on another forum where the guy called Virgin and was apparently told the fault seemed to be with VM.
Sorry this doesn't provide an answer but thought it worth corroborating your symptoms.
Cheers!
Use fla.sh rom instead. Its very stable and fast . Multi csc too.

Big thanks for letting me know I'm not the only one with the problem(thought i was loosing my mind, lol)
actually the phone was a virgin locked phone but was unlock to all networks by them for me... maybe something i can look into.
p.s flashing fla.sh didn't fix it either..
I am having this same issue using stock 2.3.3.
I bought my ace factory unlocked using it on orange. Sometimes sms will send, but majority of time it will fail until I disable packet data.
I tend to email or use gtalk/kik for messages but the odd time I want sms this gets annoying.
Oddly I never had this problem on the 2.3.4 I tried from samsfirmware.
Got the same problem. Using 3, and they just gave me a new SIM-card. Gotta finde some clever way of disabling data every time I open Messaging
yeah im looking for a way of re enabling the option in the extended power menu but with out much luck, all the modded ones seem to leave it out.

Okay, gonna try to explain it.
1. Go to /system/app and rename Mms.apk to Mms.apk.bak
2. Install the attached Mms.apk (It's from CM6)
3. Download AutomateIt from the Android Market (Just the free one)
4. Open it and add a rule. Trigger should be "Application Status Trigger" and the app is Messaging. Make sure "Application Adtivated" is marked. And the action should be "Set Mobile Data" and "Mobile Data Enabled" should not be marked.
5. Save it and add a new rule. Trigger should be "Application Status Trigger" and the app is Messaging. Make sure "Application Adtivated" is NOT marked. And the action should be "Set Mobile Data" and "Mobile Data Enabled" should BE marked. Save this one, and you are done!
This will disable Mobile Data every time you open your Texts, and enable it then you exit your texts. The reason you need the CM6 Messaging-app, is that this tricks doesn't work with the original Samsung-app

So I've been spending the better part of an hour trying to convince widgetlocker to block sms popup but can't seem to figure out the proper system name. I have tried "SMS Popup", "android-smspopup", and "com.smspopup.*" any help would be greatly appreciated.

why not just uninstall SMS popup or tell SMS popup not to try and unlock screen?
It doesn't unlock the screen. It pops up in front of widget locker instead of waiting for me to unlock it like it does by default. I tried the whole trying to figure it out through installed apps thing too. Even tried finding it before the names changed in running apps list. Not happening.

I'm also trying to figure this out... I love the customization for individual contacts that SMS Popup offers, and I'm not ready to lose that.... so if anyone can figure it out... haha.

I have never once said it unlocks the screen. And it never unlocks the phone on any setting. It does turn the screen on by default but I turned that off long ago. the problem is when I turn the screen on sms popup sits on top of the lockscreen with widgetlocker. Widgetlocker has an option but you need the actually system name such as "com.handcent.nextsms" to handcent. I just need that one little line of text to fix this. Just don't know what it is for sms popup.

All you had to do to get that line was navigate to /data/app with root explorer and find SMS popup.
net.everythingandroid.smspopup-1.apk
Its a liveable issue. It doesn't wake the screen at least but I know there has to be a way to figure it out. Its probably not even that hard but I don't know enough about programming or how android works to do so. I've been on vacation since the issue started and getting on a plane home now. Hopefully ill be able to figure it out with a better workspace blah.
Edit: either you posted that while I was typing or im blind. I actually tried that my device just showed smspopup.apk I thank you very much sir.

Yo, devs and users. I've a problem (obviously): the messaging app doesn't work. If I try to send a text, it just says "SENDING..." but even after three weeks, nothing will be sent. Alternatively, it might from time to time say "PENDING..."
Have you ever come upon this issue? If so, how did you solve it?\
If someone could tell me how to make it work again, I'd be SO-O thankful. IF possible, without re-flashing.

Messaging -> Menu -> Settings -> Text Messages (SMS) -> Service center. There should be a number. If it's not there, call your operator and find out.

Yeah, that was my first guess as well, but as I went to the Messaging's Settings, there's no Service Center anywhere, and I was thorough in searching it. I looked for it in all the settings I could think of, but there was no Service Center to be found anywhere.
You could try to erase data (and reset messaging doing that), and check if all is okay, or you could check if you can type service center number in secret menu (in dialer type *#*#4636#*#* ) . If all else fails, you should call your operator and ask them to fix stuff...

I don't understand why I should replace Settings.apk. Maybe you didn't get what my problem was. I can't send messages, that's all. Everything else is dandy.
I went to the secret menu, the SMSC number was there, I called tech support for my network, but (being amateurs) they were of no help whatsoever.
I will clear data and report back.

Yes your Right ... But about finding the specific setting you can replace the Settings.apk ... anyway ... you also can replace a messaging app with the current one ( Can extract from an other ROM ) ... that may help fix the problem ... Good luck

OnePlus 10 Pro, NE2215, c.22, rooted . If I go into messages and want to assign a specific notification alert to a contact, it does not stick.
For example, in "Messages" I choose a message and I press the 3 dot hamburger in the upper right corner, and choose "Details." Then choose "Notifications". Under "Ringtone" it says "App Default". If I press that, it gives me the opportunity to select a different alert. I do so, and it brings me back to the page where the ringtone continues to be "App Default." It's impossible to select a different ringtone for individual contacts, though it's obviously supposed to do so.
Ringtones I had previously assigned seem to have stuck; I just can't assign any others. Noticed this is both c21 and c22.
Has anyone else experienced this, and anyone have suggestions for a resolution?
Thanks!

I believe it's Google's fault with latest update ex messages and phone
Try uninstalling updates for Google messages, Google phone and Google contacts
I was just about to post the exact same thing. Google is responsible for this.
I rely pretty heavily on that capability, so I have already emailed them twice, but no response.
If we persist, they will notice and fix it. If we persist.
