Pressing Home Button with my cheek while calling! - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, i've got the problem that i accidently hit the 4 buttons (Return/Settings/Home/Search) of the Nexus One on the bottom everytime i call someone. This is really getting on my nerves, isnt there any way i can disable those buttons while calling someone? That would be awesome.
Thanks

Maaan, isnt there a easy way around it?

The phone should turn them off itself via the proximity sensor when you hold it to your face anyway?

Turn on touch diamond by "Touching" the center button on d-pad

since the center button on the dpad is heat sensitive, I think it would be great if it was possible to turn it on by touching it, or by doing a circle gesture, like zooming in opera.. I really hate the top button, It keeps turning on my phone in my pocket, and I dont like to lock my phone.. also, when in hand, its difficult to press....
I hope this idea could be made into reality...
Just being able to wakeup the phone using anything other than the top button or stylus would be great!
I swear that top button is going to wear out! It doesn't have as much push in it as any other button on the phone..
My diamond wakes up on hitting the center button.. or any of the hardware buttons.
the stylus wake is cool too, but not always feasible.
Start - Settings - System
Key Lock
When device is off:
I selected DO NOT LOCK BUTTONS
Works fine for me

Happy to help
Sweet! Now I use any keypad buttons to turn on, and use G-sen to turn off by facing the phone downwards.
No more using the top button. True for me too.. the button seems to have been submerged more..
well, enabeling all the hardware buttons doesnt help much either, since they can be easily pushed in our pockets... still waiting for some of our awsome developers to come by, and figure something out with the center button, a gesture would be really cool, because I would have to worry about locking my phone
Sushilange, I believe is working on the shake application..
one of the most requested by the users (including myself) being shake to wake
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=406921&highlight=released
lol.. shake to wake seems like a nice feature, but you dont think it will turn on in your pocket? even cooler would be if it could turn on with the light sensor, so you could just take it out of your pocket and it would be on but this wouldnt work in the dark
Edit: I am glad there is a lot of interest on this topic...
I am still hopeful about Shake to Wake
Don't think it would be turning on in the pocket.. unless you are running..
but anyways.. beats pressing the power button.. any day!
hm, I can agree that turning a phone on with a center button gesture would be the most stylish way, shaking a phone is just stupid.
How do you set up gsen to shut off the phone by facing it downwards???

FYI, it’s not heat sensitive, it’s capacitive. Although heat could also change the capacitance and still register as a touch!
Ha! When I bought it I would touch (not press) the centre button and it would wake up. I installed Bepe's ROM right away, and this functionality was lost - I then thought that it was just my idea in the first place!
Now I read the above posts and it seems that indeed you should be able to wake th device up by *touching* the centre button - how do I enable it back? And yes, "no lock" is enabled in Power Key Lock settings...
but if i want to block all buttons except central one?

How to turn on auto turn off during call

I checked the power settings(I set it off after 1 Min),but the phone display is on during calls. It's on for 6-7 mins, not turning off. What to do? Please rep ASAP
Just press the power button on the top of the phone, and it will turn the screen off. Well thats what i do any way. Try it out
Dont hold it for to long otherwise the phone will turn off, just give it a quick press!
Download XperiaTweak v2.0
Hi,
I have the exactly opposite problem. I have installed XperiaTweak (current version) and enabled the option "Disable Screen Turning Off during calls", but it's still turning off after a minute (like the normal standby settings...).
Do you know the registry key etc. for that feature so that I can check the settings?
regards
Nils
Whats most retarded is why we can't have what the iPhone ALREADY does...
the Xperia X1 has a front facing (near your ear) light sensor. It should turn the screen off when it is next to your ear, and turn it on when you move it away from your ear... JUST LIKE HOW THE iPHONE DOES IT.
I mean, something this simple... why hasn't it been implemented?
Think about it. Why put the light sensor near the ear then? When not put it on the side or something? because obviously someone thought that, well, when the phone is near the ear, it will go from light to immediate darkness, and when moved away, dark to light.
Why cant we have somethign this simple? Or anyone know of a workaround or third party app?

The X1 as you probably know has no light sensor or accelerometer, so there is no way to interpret when the phone is at your ear or otherwise.

Actually, it does have a light sensor. What else do you think automatically adjusts the screen's brightness? This really is an ingenious idea, can someone cook up an app that runs in the background to do this?
I want to have light during call all time I tray Advanced_Configuration_Tool_v3.3 and did not find nathing no option on battery display or call thet will keep my back linght on durring call some idea?
And the touch pro 2 does have the feature to turn off screen when you put it to your ear. Devs?

Use Advance Configuration Tools to fix this by enabling Wifi during standby.

What are you TD2 users doing about accidental touches?

Just curious...in the TD1, I used S2U2 to avoid accidental touches to the screen but as the TD2 already has the side to answer/end .. what do you use now?
I'm having a few issues I did when I got the first diamond where if someone calls, or you call out via bluetooth, the phone screen turns on
Usually end up hanging up on someone when I call them because the screen touches the pouch/pocket etc
I think there are a few apps to disable screen apart from hard keys etc - just curious what the majority use

Is there a tweak for this in ACT? With my t pro when a call goes thru the screen goes dark almost immediatly, so I have the opposite prob as I need to use the kp to enter numbers sometimes. I could see where using bt it could be an issue tho.
I was wondering if the D2 came with a proximity or light sensor to disable/turn off the screen while it is against your face. I hate my Elfin.... I'm always pressing things with my face and getting into all kinds of menus.
My brothers Behold has sensors that shut the screen off. As of recently I have been pressing the power button to turn off the screen after I answer. Can't wait till mine ships on the 11th.

I asked the same question in another thread, and would be very curious about the answer, especially since gsmarena.com does not mention it as a feature, in comparison to the D1.
the iPhone has this feature...and I really can't imagine the D2 to do not have it. I hope I won't be surprised negatively.
i presume it does
Bearing in mind it automatically dims the backlight, and increases it. It must have one somewhere!.

I sure hope. I read that the Touch Pro2 has it so I'm hoping that the TD2 does also. If not that would be a shame. Good thing I'm getting used to pressing the power button right after I answer.
The D2 does come with a proximity light that dims the screen. If you look at the manual it's listed in the diagram specs page as well.

that sounds really great! but does it mean that it's inactivated too? dimming is indeed good, especially in the dark not to have a glowing ear - but i was wondering if, with the dimming, comes the inactivation of the screen too, in order to avoid accidental pressing of buttons with the ear/face.

My screen always turns off during calls . . .

. . . and I have to hit the power button to turn the screen back on. To be more precise, the screen turns itself off when I hold the phone towards my ear during calls, and it does not turn itself back on when I hold it away from my ear.
This is obviously some power saving feature that doesn't work as well as it should, like a gimpy proximity sensor. Anyone know a workaround for this ?
I'm on Three Musketeers Sense 3.6 ROM.

Well, ther is a proximity sensor there, near the camera on the top of the phone, on the screen side, and this screen-off thing is more like feature to save power and not to anoy you during the night when you talk to the phone
Don't know why it does that, maybe your sensor is faulty, but try to flash a different ROM and see if something changes, also make sure you don't keep your hand or finger near that sensor, just to be sure, i personally use this ROM and i don't expierience this issue.
Hope this helps

If it is possible on Galaxy S2, then it is possible on any android phone , and it is, but there should be made a tool for that or a flashable zip, i'm not that experienced to tell you exactly what needs to be changed, but it can be done, that i know
Same problem here.
Changing roms didn't solve anything
Anybody have solution for this ?
If you have a screen protector covering it then it might be wise to make a cut out or take the protector off altogether.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
as i remeber , you can write something in the build.prop that will disable proxy sensor
Im having problem that is almost same. After a long call(when screen is turned off) it turns off but screen or softkeys dont reply any way.
I have to turn of the screen with power button and let it be around 10-15 seconds and turn it on. Then lockscreen appears and everything
works. This is really annoying because I cant cut the line any way.
Not using screen protector and tried couple of custom roms. Allways have the same issue.

No I don't have screen protector or cover.
Problem is identified with proximity sensor itself, on App " Android sensor box " if you select proximity sensor it reads always 0.0cm no mater what you do with phone.
It seems like HW failure, will have to look at it in more detail.

I have tryed few Apps that will lock/disable proximity sensor but without success. It either acts the same or don't light the screen at all.
Anders can you help us with writing some code, I'm willing to be beta tester if you like ?

The problem is when you try to make a second call display turns off, phone is working you can talk, but you can't end the call or nothing because screen is off, so you have to turn it on or wake it by pressing power button. And it's happening only on every second call, so I make a first call, as soon as I try to make a second display turns off, and only power button wakes it, after that you can make the next call normaly, but problem repeats on second call.
Phone was stock on ICS 4.0.3, and making problems there. So it's now fully unlocked ( S-off ) Hboot is 1.28. I have tryed many custom roms, but the problem repeats
I think it's the hardware problem with proximity sensor.

I think too. Sounds like your proximity sensor is weird.
Sent from my HTC Sensation using xda premium
To continue the story, I removed the MB and when the proximity sensor is out of the case, it works ok. When I put it back in case( behind screen ) it doesn't respond again.
Cleaning didn't help, will have to find another one to make sure what is the problem.
I have fixed my problem thanks to this thread

How to unlock with fingerprint scanner from standby

Hey all, I was wondering if anyone knows if the phone is in standby and the screen is off can you just touch the finger print scanner to turn on and unlock, or do you have to double tap and or hit the power button first? ! Also, if the AOD is on can you just touch the scanner to unlock? I figure AOD should let you and lift to wake would work. Just not sure if the screen is off if you need to go through an extra step to get the scanner to work, as I don't have my unit yet and can't test it all. Thx!
screen off, yes you can just touch it and it will unlock. no need to wake the screen.

Awesome! Thank God. As I had seen videos on YouTube that showed people hitting the power button first to initiate the screen on then touch the scanner and I was aggravated if that was the case lol :highfive:

Yeah I think they're just trying to fully demo. It works screen off, AOD mode, screen on... whichever way you want it. Since its not optical it doesn't need to light the screen
