Can anyone help me enable the loading of backups on my PSfreedom recovery menu?
thanks in advance
How the hell do you get it to work tried so many times

i used unrevoker to flash a custom recovery which i downloaded.
when i want to use psfreedom i boot my pgone into recovery.
let me know if you want more depth?
please disregard above - I managed to get backups to load using the hermes 3 payload that was developed for the experia - this solved all my problems - got it working with uncharted 2. testing with a couple of others tonight!

Might be stupid but I had a problem; read a couple of forums and problem solved. Now I want to know what I did and why it worked because I have no idea what I'm doing. Thanks to everyone's work at xda someone like me can have full access to phone, which is super cool.
Situation:
Rooted through a process using ADB (grasped the concept but didn't understand everything, cool.)
Flashed a ROM which sounded good and has been on the phone since (Smoked Glass v10.2, if anyone cares)
Downloaded some root-only apps (started to really dig the whole "Droid Does" thing)
Now I was thinking about upgrade to the SG v.11 to check out the changes. So I backed up my app data using Titanium, got the updated zip and was going to perform the required wipe, backup and install through Clockwork.
Enter Problem...I can't reboot to recovery. Powered down and reboot w/ x+power, no Clockwork. Okay enter into ROM Manager, select "Reboot in Recovery"...nope, same thing no Clockwork just a standard reboot.
Off to XDA, read endless posts, no posts with exactly my situation but saw something interesting. "Flash SPRecovery, then back to ClockworkMod." Worth a try and it worked. Why?
Now if anyone has time can they explain what happen and how exactly recovery works?
Wanting to learn
Long story short rom manager is flashing a custom recovery on your phone while it is on can be sketchy. This is a process that is best done through sbf or update.zip.
Do you why my phone wouldn't reboot in recovery? And why would flashing sprecovery then back to clockwork fix the issue. Do u think that clockwork had a glitch. KS this something common with the Droid?
Appreciate the time.

Very common. Had to do this numerous times.

You guys should look into raidzero's recovery. All the options from Clockwork but with the stability of SPR. Tons of extras like charging while in recovery.
I installed this ROM and rebooted and my screen doesnt advance pass the blue android splash screen
now i tried gingerbread and it made it through the splash but i got a message saying something about setup not working and forcing closed. then i went back to recovery and installed the gapps and it gets stuck on the splash screen
Are you using firerat mod? Also make sure to do a full data/ system, cache, and dalvik cache wipe. I usually do all three at least twice as I've had roms hang from leftover data. Also check to make sure files are downloading completely.

What recovery are you using??
Yea it's me again. With the
Modified Hero
im using clockwork recovery 3.0.0.5
i finally got gingerbread to work. i think my problem was with doing a complete wipe of the cache.
i want to try the froyo mod but dont want to end up back where i was of hanging on the splash screen.
do i need to delete the one click root file? heroroot010.apk?
Yes you should and just do a nand back up of your working rom and you should be good to try any different rom. Then if you want to go back just nand restore back to your old rom. And if you were able to get gb to work froyo shouldn't be a problem for you.
Yea it's me again. With the

You also wanna ditch that customized recovery image. Use the recovery that comes with rom manager. That new one is missing some capabilities.

I second that! Hated that recovery both days I had it. lol
That's not the new one. The heroroot apk. installs the old darchstar recovery img. The newest one is RA1.7 and it has all the features. Good luck

thanks guys
where can i find R.A. 1.7
Clockwork recovery 2.5.0.7 works great. And that's what rom manager will flash for you. Since you likely have rom manager already, you should go with that. Most people post instructions with clockwork in mind, so it will be easier in the long term.

Like what? Besides doing away with amend scripts (which is due to CWM 3.x being based on the official GB recovery), it's the same.
That's basically it. But it causes extra work. And the original clockwork recovery works fine.
So if the OP wants stuff to work every time...

I was flashing some new ROM's and, as you should do, created a clockwork back-up. The only problem is once the new ROM's weren't working, i tried to recover my back- up but it keeps saying "sd-ext.img not found. Skipping restore of /sd-ext." at the end of the recovery. And since i always keep a few extra back-ups, i tried those but a message saying that there is an error while formatting /system.
Everytime i try to boot the phone, it stays on the boot screen with the X and won't load any further.
I'm begging for anyones help
You using clockwork 3.x by any chance?
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA Premium App
yeh the latest version
I would suggest switching to an earlier clockwork or Amon Ra...
Not sure what to suggest about your backup though. You could try flashing the img files individually?
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA Premium App
I tried flashing them individually and it still stays on the X boot screen..
I fixed the problem. I just flashed a different ROM and it finally started working again. Thanks for helping out
ok so i have a htc desire z... my brother has a galaxy s and im trying to install the recovery image for him but it wont work.... can anyone tell me how? i don't know why i cant do it. I recovery with the blue writing is still coming up even though i flash a new one through clockwork mod. anyone help please?
can nobody help?! im just asking for someone to tell me what u did to get clockwork mod on its not working for me!!
what dos the desire Z have anything to do with it? i would assume the files for one phone are not the same as the other. also, for some reason, the CWM app that flashes the recovery for you seems to be faulty. either try to flash it multiple times through the app or do it via ADB.
If your rooted you can use Rom Manager to install CWM.
Or alternately you can flash a custom kernel(Like Speedmod Froyo if on 2.2) which has CWM with a whole lot of other tweaks to make the SGS awesome http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=822756

if you read my post properly ud have realised it was for my brothers galaxy s man.
Appreciate all the help testing! Will keep this thread around if more issues are encountered.
For the time being I'm going to close down this thread as I've posted a new official thread!
Thanks everybody, especially PirateGhost!
New official thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20926830
Goal:
Working on making kernel flashing on the HTC Vivid / Holiday a few steps easier/simpler!
Background:
The HTC unlock method has been out for the last 6 months on the HTC EVO 3D. We've developed some work around methods to make things simpler for both the developers and the users who are stuck using the HTC unlock method.
How:
Fact for EVO 3D and theory for Vivid: The HTC unlock method only allows write access to the kernel (boot partition) in either fastboot mode or the normal android mode.
This means a custom kernel can only be loaded in two modes, either through fastboot or while in the standard Android mode.
Tool:
Flash Image GUI is an application I wrote to load the kernel and modules while in standard Android mode. This eliminates the need for using fastboot which requires a computer and will eliminate the need for using the Windows dependent .bat files for automating the fastboot flashing process. This will also eliminate the need to reboot into fastboot mode.
Current Status:
An updated Flash Image GUI code to support the HTC Vivid device but need a few testers to verify it all works properly on their devices!
Testing Location:
Either post back in this thread if you're able to help or join us on IRC - irc.freenode.net #gen-dev
Testing Steps:
Would recommend joining the irc channel for more detailed assistance but if you'd prefer to test and post in this thread, here are the steps:
**Wild Child told me there is no kernel backup support yet**
Stock Kernel Signed - http://w1z4rd.net/boot.img (Thanks IanWizard)
Stock Kernel Unsigned - http://joeykrim.com/evo3d/files/boot-unsigned-holiday.img
Skip straight to Step 5. The above links can be used to restore the kernel back to 100% stock.
1) Downloading clockworkmod recovery for your device to your local desktop
2) fastboot boot c:\downloads\cwm-recovery.img
3) Make a nandroid of all partitions (will need this in case there are any issues)
4) Reboot into normal android mode
5) Install Flash Image GUI - http://joeykrim.com/evo3d/files/FlashImageGUI.apk
6) Download a kernel to flash - list provided below
7) Push kernel .zip file to /sdcard (either usb mount the device or adb push c:\downloads\kernel.zip /sdcard/kernel.zip
8) Open Flash Image GUI - make a note of the kernel version displayed at the top of the application
9) Click browse and select the kernel .zip file from the sdcard
10) Flash the Image
**11) Reboot
12) Check the kernel version to see if the process worked (Either open Flash Image GUI and kernel version information will be at the top or Menu->Setting->About Phone -> Software Version -> More.
**If you're interested in testing the flashing of a kernel and ROM combination, at step 11, reboot into the standard recovery mode, where ClockworkMod should be loaded and flash the ROM .zip file
Steps to restore previous kernel before testing
1) fastboot boot c:\downloads\cwm-recovery.img
2) Restore Nandroid created in previous section step 3
Kernels to Test Flash:
Thanks to Dodgejcr for the stock vivid kernels for testing!
Stock Kernel boot.img zip with modified kernel version to verify flash worked properly
Stock Kernel anykernel .zip with modified kernel version to verify flash worked properly
PirateGhost Telstra boot.zip - This *probably* requires the associated ROM Raider .zip to be loaded. Don't flash this kernel unless you're also flashing the ROM .zip.
Thanks for the support and willingness to test!
awesome. i just went from stock rooted to my rom using this tool.
might i suggest a 'reboot to recovery for rom flashing' button? that would complete this little project, i think.
Good idea man. I'll surely add this to the superguide once a few more people test it. Less steps is always good.

i am working with him on IRC to get a one-stop-shop for rooted users to flash a new rom. no more fastboot flash boot for the noobs!
LOL
You are still gonna keep the ROMs and kernals separate for people that would rather do it from adb/recovery right? Cause I've had terrible luck trying to take shortcuts using batches, programs and the like.

the beauty of this tool is that you dont use batches and programs on your computer
its all on the phone and will boot you to recovery to flash the rom you want (as soon as he gets all the bugs worked out. im just the guinea pig here, inputting little value)
I've have been able to flash a kernel in recovery. I was using the first compile i think. First step I did was reboot recovery from advanced then I wiped dalvik and flashed the zip containing the kernel. It seemed to work anyways.

Thank God... lol
It hasn't gotten that bad yet, with not that many people needing to flash kernels, but I was waiting for the onslaught of problems involving it.

I'm still a little weary...idk I've never really liked not having control over something like this because if my phone bricks, at least I know its my fault. But I could see the benefit being out and just downloading the ROM/kernal straight to my phone and flashing it. And I definitely see the benefit for people that don't have a single clue what their doing. Would help cut down on the same 1000 help me posts...lol.
