SGS Config for Excellent Battery Life Return (For Reference)

Here is my current SGS config = Excellent Return on Battery Life
Current ROM - Doc & Kal ver 7.6.2, no lagfix installed - All tweaks enabled via CWM Might Disable-Phone is more responsive and faster but of course to much speed increases battery usage... 50/50 about tweaks imo...
AutoKiller - Settings set to optimal (i personally think strict kills heavily and programs restart to often which in turn uses battery life)
Rooted
Sync - Off
GPS - Off
Auto Rotation - Off & Off in Zeam
Brightness mainly off and minimum in Browser
Using both H/3G and 2G network
Launcher - Zeam
Homescreens - 2
Wallpaper - Dark coloured
Screen 1 - Battstatt (4x1), SiMi Clock (4x1)
Screen 2 - Power Control Plus - 2 options (brightness - Auto and off) & Screen Timeout setting -15 sec & 10 min)
6 icons (win7 type) Used Desktop Visualiser App, Beautiful Weather Widget (Updates Interval Manual)
Themed - Elegant Steel (Whole Rom)
Installed Zeam and ADW as a back up.
Windows Animation - Full

The look of the phone might seem bland, but i prefer simple, clean and polished.
And yes my phone is smooth...But the main thing is the impressive Battery Life returned in use and idle.

Annoying question:
What do you consider excellent and what do you compare it to?

Install juiceplotter and give us some times. I get about 8 hours out of charge or 3hrs if on 3g

Well, not really a comparison but an example of what battery life I can achieve with my set up, of course its not to everyone taste but if you look closely you will see that I don't have any active battery services running constantly.
As it stands now I have achieved a 3% drain in 8 hours overnight idle time with my set up, that extra boost was achieved by removal of beautiful widgets and quite possibly the alteration of my status/notification bar which is no longer a shaded grey but now transparent (gonna add a screen shot today)
But my set up goes to show that you can have excellent battery life, but you have to balance the phone etc. more is less and less is more.
And I think its fair to say that even in daily usage you should by able to get good usage in my set up, because I will have nothing running except for what I am doing, rather then having a double drain.

Thats very bad.
I'm running Froyo 2.2 Scandinavian Update through Kies, Voodoo Lagfix. With the Exchange email bug active (constant 10% cpu load in background), 3g and Bluetooth on and moderate use, i drain from 100% to 20% in 11 hours.
With the Exchange email bug disabled (setting retrieval of email to Never), but with 3G and Bluetooth on, i drain from 100% to 50% in 11 hours with moderate use.
I recommend you to install SystemPanel app and let it monitor CPU usage for a day. The Top apps consuming cpu will become clear. My Galaxy CPU usage with the phoe asleep idles between 1-3%.

i'm on 2 days and 10 hrs since last unplugged and have 8% battery left... using superpower xda... scheduled data on every hour for 5 mins. night time sleep airplane mode. using jp6, rooted, oclf v2 (optimum and deadline).

yes superpower app is really useful for those who want to extend batt life.
ever since i installed it i've been easily having battery life for over 2d (it usually goes down to about 10% after 2d 12hrs)
only downside is that it takes a slight delay in switching between 2G and 3G (bad if you're in a rush) and when at night you can turn on sleep but won't get calls (bad if there is an emergency)
i have a question though, how do you get rid of thinkfree? i tried going into applications and then clicking on 'all' but everything is greyed out and i can't click uninstall.
any suggestions?

I guess power saver has its pro and con like every other app.
To remove think free, I downloaded titanium free.
Launch it, then at the top click on back up and restore, then scroll down to think free. Click on it, then clear data, then click uninstall.
Job done
If you wish to use it in the future, download it from the market.

At night, when going to bed, just turn cell radio off or put device on flight mode (unless you are expecting a night call)..

O yeh, Also install Startup Manager and disable all them useless samsung startup processes like SNS , email (if you don't use built in email and use 3rd party like K-9) and remote wipes.What I noticed is that If i disabled something major at next boot the system re-enables the service so Its kind of safe (My experience anyways)

i think removing google talk is not a very good idea.
from what i gather google talk is the main-"google-account-login" that keeps your phone connected to the market. e.g. google talk not logged in = no market.

[Battery] Why is my battery on my D4 going down so fast?

I have a rooted droid 4, and i love it. im on stock rooted 2.3.6, and i have frozen quite a few bloatware apps. however, my battery life seems to have substantially gone down since rooting, and i can't figure out why. under battery manager, the top battery draining app, for me, is Logcat. I used to be able to go a whole day without it dying, but now i cant.

that just made me literally laugh out loud

Definitely looks like logcat is what is eating up your battery. That is strange. Logcat doesn't even show up in my battery stats. Is it something you downloaded? If so get rid of it. I do not see it in the app list in the stock app manager or in Titanium Backup. I think you need to find a way to get rid of it or freeze it.

that's true. i was also facing the same problem but after turn LTE off, battery remains charged.

Also, you appear to have some task killers running. Get rid of the task killer besides Motorola's built in one, and generally disable Motorola's too. Task killers do not work properly on Android 2.2 and up. LTE will of course zap your battery, but so far, I have been getting plenty of standby time even with it on.

I am experiencing the same thing as you alex94. Froze some bloatware and stock rom. Battery is ridiculously bad. I pulled off the charger at 2:40PM(Full charge). 15 percent left at 8:00PM. The worst part is....I DIDNT USE IT. It sat in dormancy. Not one call, text, app download or any activity. I was at work at it sat in the back room for the entire time undisturbed. I work in a store with a 4g/3g repeater in the back. Full service all day too so thats not the problem either....hmm.

Well, i probably could of made a new thread but, im having battery issues as well. Except in my case Android OS has taken 54% of my battery right now. Anyone have any solutions for that?

Android OS is usually widgets. delete all of your widgets for a day, see if that helps. If it does, re-add them in order of how frequently they poll information. (i.e add calendars back before elixir...)

Logcat is the built in logging application for android. Unless you have a program set to log large amounts of data (i.e elixir) the task killers or frozen apps are likely at fault. Program launches, closes and errors are the largest percentage of logcats CPU time. if it isn't the task killers, try unfreezing the bloatware. It is very possible that an application still running is crashing or logging due to an app it requires being frozen.

I just want to pin point the problem and kill whatever app is causing the drain.
I'm on 10.3.A.0.423 nordic stock ROM - that's 4.2.2 - (Denmark). Bootloader locked, rootet.
I'm getting heavy battery drain from NlpCollectorWakelock as seen on attached screenshot from BBS.

I have disabled all location services (WIFI, GPS, Google apps placement) in settings and Google now has Google Apps Placement disabled. In fact, I have always had those settings disabled because of the heavy drain of the battery so it's not a chance in settings that have spawned this problem.

Try this (you'll need root access):
Download Elixir 2 from the Play store - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bartat.android.elixir&hl=en
Launch Elixir 2, choose 'applications' then press the menu button (button with 4 horizontal lines) select 'System applications'
Scroll down and select Google Play services then 'View details' then scroll down until you find 'com.google.android.location.fused.NIpLocationReceiverService' and disable it.
Reboot and see if it makes any difference.
If you see any side effects from disabling it you can always go back into Elixir and re-enable it.

You can also try the latest playstore if you don't already have it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2228584
All Google services are stupidly related to each other.

Had this issue yesterday an hour long wakelock for me, I'm sure it was triggered because i disabled location services yesterday.
Tried a few combinations like keeping GPS on and wifi location off etc, nothing worked then a simple reboot solved the problem.
Tip: I use tasker to switch on location services when an app like maps or google now is launched and then disable it when the display is off.

In the end I remembered that I had installed Google Earth just the other day - so I uninstalled it and did a reboot.
At this point I failed - thanks to a brain fart - to do a test to see if the problem was solved only by uninstalling Google Earth - and I proceeded to turn off location reporting and keep location history on in Google Now - my reason for this setup was a post on Reddit recommending it. I have no knowledge one way or the other to determine the effects of this setup.
It *SEEMS* that the NlpCollectorWakelock is not an issue any longer.
I will test for a few hours and then re-install Google Earth to see if it pops back up. I will post results, as it seems that quite some people have problems with this particular thing.

NlpCollectorWakelock came back after a few hours. In Google Now I completely disabled access to locations and did a reboot.
It's been around 20 hours and NlpCollectorWakelock is completely gone from the list of wakelocks (kernel and partial) in BBS.
So to anyone wondering what to do about this problem I can say that completely disabling location services in Google Now did the trick for me.

Nlp wakelock came back again when i used maps.
I guess it is caused by disabling locations access from settings not Google now's but one from settings.
It goes away on reboot but if you want to use any location based app i recommend keeping location access on.

I would like to ask you if anybody knows how to set up the schedule time for turning on/off "Extended Battery Mode".
I tried SmartConnect from SONY but this app can only open the system settings shortcut in the specific time, but it cannot actually turn on/off Extended Battery Mode.
I have my Xperia V rooted.
Any answers appreciated.

Yes, you are right - but I like the way how STAMINA and Ext. Battery Mode handles the battery.
(I would love to have real STAMINA mode on my Xperia V, but it is not possible.)
I would like to have:
- when battery lower than 20%, turn on Ext. Battery Mode
- when time from 23:00 to 6:00, turn on Ext. Battery Mode.
(I tried many Battery Saver app, however it actually does not work.)
Can you share with me some of your profiles in SmartConnect?

one setting i use mostly every day:
when time: 23:50-5:30 (Every Day)
startaction: disable bluetooth, disable mobile data, disable wifi, brigthness 7%
endaction: enable mobile data, brightness 40%
another thing i use:
when 22:00-7:00 (Monday-Friday)
startaction: Soundmode silent
endaction: Soundmode normal
something like this, i think its a good start, if you wanne keep open your smartphone at night. i had 3% battery usage last night (8hours)
(i also use greenify donate version, stock sony fw)
but the battery usage will vary from user to user, its up to the personal usage and what apps you use (in background and so on)
if my battery under 20% then i can manually turn down brightness, disable 3g (enable only 2g) i dont need my smartphone for that.i understand people like to have automatic functions like that, but i personal not think its necessary to have everything automatic.

i use only greenify.
not using Location-based WIFI...i deleted that apk.

Any tips for smoother running?

if you use an app like sd maid, then maybe you noticed that apps like walkman are running in background, also DLNA/TV App-Starter and other stuff.
with donate version i can greenify system apps like walkman (experimental feature)
and i noticed that Xperia Home wakes up sony apps like walkman. (in greenify it said it) so i greenify stuff like walkman. but will it help for better battery life? no idea...i just think why it should run alltime in background the walkman or DLNA or whatever...for a faster first start i guess, but whatever.
but i never had a bad batterylife with stock fw. (also without greenify it was ok)

I used Wakelock Detector and I found out that many so called Batter Savers are not savers.
Why? They woke up my device so many times that it would have definitely affected my battery.
E. g. JuiceDefender - it woke up my device from DeepSleep app. 200x during 8 hrs.

Extended Battery Mode does a little more than just shutting off Bluetooth and Wifi. It also stops a number of backgrounds processes to be active.
The request for a scheduled Extended Battery Mode is a reasonable one, IMO. For example because enabling it kills functioning notification and reminders. To my personal opinion a selector what should be muted down would also be a good thing. Or the entire stamina thing should be integrated with Greenify, which in the end has exactly the purpose saving on system resources (and therefore battery power).
The basic thought of just letting things run is a comparable wrong idea as letting TV's, Surround Receiver and other household items in stand-bye. We all now now that this has been a real silly idea.

Basically everything that does not require a widget to run, or alerts / alarms to be active. First I did not think so much of it, but Greenify has become my favourite app drawer, so to say. I think it's time for me changing to the donate version.
I got used to it but of course it's not a real app drawer. The idea shoot into my head, what if there was a launcher with a build in App Drawer that has the capability to greenify?

I thought Sony including Superstamina in Smart Connect would be useful. It has already some system profiler functionality, and could be made even more being one.

I must say that Greenify is awesome. This guy should definitely work for Google.
He should show them how to handle the battery consumption.
However, I have still the problems. I did the test during the night:
- turned off WIFI + mobile data
- all apps available were greenified (Google Maps + Google Search as well)
... but still, my battery went down for 6% - check it.
Any suggestions?

Same XV on stock ROM. Over night 1 % drop, sometimes nothing. Airplane mode, Extended Battery on.
No solution just a suggestion. Uninstall everything you don't need. Greenify Talk.

I am using airplane mode manually. I just accept to switch off /disable a couple of things when not needed. I used a number of profilers /schedulers in the past. In short, most cause more work than they save. If you believe you may need one, try Profile Widget, it's one of the most simple, hassle free.
My feeling about Hangouts is uninstalling it, and using the previous Talk.It is not as a fat pig. You likely still would not get notifications if it's greenified. I greenify it before I sleep.

I saw that the problem of Wakelock is NLPWakelock + NLPWakelockCollector = from 14 hrs it ran about 7 hrs. according to WL Detector.
(It is Google Now - but the worst is that I disabled all the stuff related to location in Google Now.)

Me, did not use smart switch:
Average screen off drain: 1.9%/hour
Deep sleep: Seems to vary between 50-70% roughly
Friend, did use smart switch:
Average screen off drain: 0.9%/hour
Deep sleep: Seems to be much higher around 90%
I found an app on XDA which is meant to give insight into what is keeping phone awake, Better Battery Stats (need to give some permissions using ADB) - in the "partial wakelocks" section there is nothing high, mainly 0% values, 3% for whatsapp web. In "kernel wakelocks" there are some high values like 60% but they are things like PowerManagerService.Display and PowerManager.SuspendLockout at 60% and 19f00000.decon_0 at 60% also

I found an app on XDA which is meant to give insight into what is keeping phone awake, Better Battery Stats (need to give some permissions using ADB) - in the "partial wakelocks" section there is nothing high, mainly 0% values, 3% for whatsapp web. In "kernel wakelocks" there are some high values like 60% but they are things like PowerManagerService.Display and PowerManager.SuspendLockout at 60% and 19f00000.decon_0 at 60% also

Don't know the answer but I would suggest looking at battery historian as well - you export a bug report and it breaks everything down for you really well

Try disabling all power management. It's been known to cause conflicts.
Close all app windows before power down.
Goggle Transport and cloud apps are known trouble makers...

Well... you need to pay attention to what you toggle on or off. Only fast charging should be enabled and power mode.
Developer options>standby apps, all buckets should show as active otherwise power management is running.
Goggle almost everything... Gmail is all I use and it's set to manual sync. Disable all auto sync and all feedback, Google, Samsung and carrier.
Close all open user apps.
