Which one should I be using?
I am still using the original Amon RA Recovery 1.5 that I loaded when I first rooted my Hero from Regaw's thread.
I'm currently running CM6 Extreme Blue, and I have seen the option in my ROM manager to flash Clockwork Recovery so I could use ROM Manager to download ROM's.
So, my question is, which is better, Amon or Clockwork? Is it easy to revert back to Amon from Clockwork if I don't care for it?
Thanks.
Its all preference I would think. Its easy to change the recovery so try it for a while then change back if you don't like it or try the Unofficial Amon_RA 1.7, GodSpeed Recovery Darchstar Edition, or GodSpeed Recovery ToAsTcfh Edition available at Darchs Website.
Just to let you know you should be posting questions at the Hero CDMA Q&A section not on the Development section.

I love how this thread is almost underneath the stickied one that clearly says "PLEASE POST "Questions" and "Non ROM developement" THEADS IN THE CORRECT FORUMS".
Clockwork Mod is insanely better. It has more advanced features than Amon_RA, such as mounting individual partitions in Recovery mode, and flashing unsigned zip files.

agreed people on this site wonder why i always post in threads saying that. my response is...READ THE RULES!
Can you use clockwork to mount your flash as a USB device on a computer? (know Amon RA does that)...

Yes you can, as well as individual partitions such as /system, /data /cache, etc.
BTW I put in a request for either myself to become a moderator in this section, or that a moderator start moderating this section. These posts in the wrong forums are getting annoying.

Thanks for the tips.
Sorry about posting in the wrong forum. Didn't mean to break the rules, I wasn't trying to be stupid, just made a mistake. I was posting while at work, and was writing the post between inputing my different orders that I have to work. I was writing the post during the downtimes, and just happened to be in the wrong forum. Didn't do it on purpose. Certainly didn't mean to ruffle the feathers of so many people.

LOL you're so funny. I asked for moderator status because I frequent XDA multiple times per day. It's not fair to developers that their threads are pushed back pages because of people asking noob questions in the DEVELOPMENT section instead of the Q&A section. It's even worse that no one reads up on what they're actually doing to their phone anymore before they do it. God forbid they use the search button on XDA or Google. /end rage
Ironic considering almost all the threads you've started are questions. Perhaps you need to sharpen up on your Googling skills, as well.
You know what else pushes back development threads? People bickering over stupid stuff, getting way off topic, and not letting a thread die.
Now don't have a flame war, don't like what somebody says? Ignore them, or tell a moderator and let them handle it. It takes 2 to have a war
When thread has been answered, posting that it's in the wrong place just bumps it.
If this has been answered, let it die. Stop before real moderators have to get involved k?
Ok so here's a question relating to this thread. I've used both amonRA and clockwork. I do appreciate the advanced features of clockwork, but I noticed the other day it takes about 4 times as long to back up the exact same rom, even though it makes the same size of backup. Anyone have a clue as to why this would be?
Sent from my Froyo Hero!
some of the later Amon RA are overclocked

That's due to that fact that the 1.7 ra is overclocked, and therefore much faster
Personally I would stick with an OC amonRA over Clockwork if you're just going to be doing your basic nandroid backups/restores, flashing signed zips you get off of XDA, and mounting the SD card on occasion.
It covers your basic needs and it does it faster. Plus, who wouldn't want darch's or toast's avatar on their recovery

First off, this isn't even the right spot. Move to the Q&A section.
Second, use the SEARCH button.
I'm sure this has been answered several times.

this question has been answered a million times if you just search
im in a good mood from beer so all i will say is this:
if you are rooted you dont even need to activate with most roms (and you can do it when you have wifi access)
next time, QUESTIONS GO IN THE QnA SECTION....cmon...is it really THAT difficuly?
just noticed from your signature that you are the idiot who asked us to magically improve your signal the other night

I vote they should, they make some of the best threads... But because they also have the stupidest questions to post a thread you have to answer an Android related question. Something a SEARCH would tell you. You know it reads the subject/post looks it up and tells them to answer their own question
a bit like ubuntu forums and the way they make you answer like "what is one plus four" to get results? but android related...

I think it would work. Like this thread, how to setup with out sim. The question would be
"If you don't have a sim card, how can you setup your phone?"
looks like we have jacked this thread....
more than appropriate for threads that jack sections if you ask me

So i have a question, and maybe its a quick answer, but when you are upgrading mods, is it best to do a complete wipe, and upgrade? Or is it better to just stack the builds? Thanks for the answers ahead of time!

What part of the 'Questions & Answers' section don't you understand?
Also read the requirements for each rom.
I knew i was i was gonna get flamed for posting in this section. My apologies, i was not aware of the Q/A section. I feel better about doing a complete wipe and doing a fresh install. I keep reading about these recovery imgs, i have one, that was created with Flashrec(Cyan 1.4) what is the .img of? Can you just replace that .img, if it was imaged while it while on the stock .img? I'm curious because if so you should be able go back and forth with ease in theory right?

i got a nexus one today i got the rooting and recovery flashing but when it came down to flashing my first custom rom i am getting confused i see roms and kernels and radios and dont know what to flash first or if i should be flashing certain files at all ...some one please give me a quick guide or point me to a link that i didnt see already
Seriously, if it confuses you, then you shouldn't be doing it.
There's PLENTY of easy to follow how-to's in this forum. Read them. ALL of them.
Just add the ROM zip to your sd card, boot into recovery, wipe, flash ROM. CELEBRATE!
Flash a ROM first. Then everything else is an 'addon' to the ROM. You pick and choose (if compatible with the ROM you will be using) the addons. But overall, all you need to do is choose a ROM, first.

wrong sub form, not helping
First, wrong section....
You need the Q&A section which stands for Questions and Answers. Yours would fall under the question part of that.
Second, you installed a very old version of Amon_RA's recovery. That may or may not be the root of the problem.

hey i really dont understand what is CFroot and it complications, i have a few questions if some developer or someone really knowledgeable person here can answer pls for me and all the noobs out here. and i bet ya all, even some of the really talented and well experienced people out here might also be dodged with these questions:
Q1- is the stock LPY rom safe? the one which we download from xda which is like 500 mb or something?
Q2- what is CFroot? is it harmfull to do full wipe with this?
Q3- what is my kernal in the stock rom which is 500 mb or something? i cant understand it so i attached a screen shot if u can tell me.
Q4- with this (stock rom downloaded and flashed) kernal and everything which u can see in my screen shot can i flash the CWM and root my phone safely with out and issues? can u pls for the sake of android brotherhood, give me some details? i know i can find that in many threads but as i already mentioned do this favor and explain it here for the sake of android brotherhood!
Q5- rocket rom and midnote rom are out for LPY can i flash them with no issues?
i will be really great full to the people helping cause this LPY and BRICKING issue have really been pain in my a** for a couple of days and i m really so afraid to flash without complete knowledge of things.
thanks

no i have posted in the right section and the topic is not a question! and THANKS for your help!
Loose your attitude, it wont let you go far on here. And DEV section is only for Development not Q&A which your thread clearly is. As you see the Mod has already done that. Thirdly there are plenty of places you can read about it.
Anyway...
CFroot is chainfire root and its the kernels/CWM/CFroot mixed together creating problems. No one is sure which one it is.
To make it sure its better not to do any wipes from CFroot CWM, If you want to do full wipe, use abyssnote4.2. then flash your rom on top.
Your kernel is already LPY, which is the latest one. As said above and as in Rocketrom ICS thread install it like that. You should be fine. But then again if you are not sure, then its better late than sorry..
