I'm using a Samsung Captivate unlocked on the Tmobile US network.
Incoming MMS get resize, I know Tmobile does this cause it's not a phone they recognized. Everytime I get an unlock phone this happen and I know I need to change the user agent to a phone they recognized.
I saw a few post on how to do it but it's for other phones, not sure if those fix will work for the Captivate. Anyone with a Captivate on TMOUS able to fix this problem yet?
Thank you
Bump, anyone?
Anyone know how to edit the user agent in the hex file?
trying to change it to the Nokia N95 user agent
NokiaN95/11.0.026; Series60/3.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1
I'm able to pull up the MMS config and see the user agent string but not sure what to do after that
Can anyone at tell me what to change in the picture?
Dude, I gave you an Mms.apk that has exactly what you're looking for on the other thread you posted about this. Take the apk I gave you and move it into system/app or just flash my ROM.

I did take your mms.apk from the other thread and try it.
It did not work. Maybe I'm installing it wrong.
Is ADB the only method to push it to the phone?
I'm transfering it to my SD card, copy it and using Root Explorer paste it into
system/app but when I go to open the application, the MESSAGING icon is not there.
What ROM are you using?
Thanks for your time
Can someone tel me if I'm doing this right.
-Using Root Explorer extract a copy of Mms.apk from phone
-rename Mms.apk to Mms.zip
-WinRar extract the MMS.zip
-locate the mms_config.xml
-using hex editor changed the UA string (see picture).
-rezipped mms folder and change name to Mms.zip to Mms.apk
-put back into system/app
-reboot phone but the Messaging icon disappeared.
Also after editing mms_config.xml and save, there's an extra file
call mms_config.xml.bak, leave that file alone or what to do with it?
Thank you to anyone that can give me some help
Anyone? A little help?

I used a registry tweak to disable the default AT&T dialer and now I want to change out the images. I am having a problem copying clg_in.gif, clg_miss.gif, clg_out, and spd_lst.gif into the \windows directory. I keep getting an access denied error message. I have turned off the phone and did a soft reset, but that didn't make any difference.
I have attempted to replace the files using my desktop computer and File Explorer.
Does anyone have a solution so I can copy over the four new files?
Thank you.
resco explorer allows you to force the copy.
Thank you.

I will give it a try. Thank you.
Update...
I downloaded Resco File Explorer and installed it. I copied the four images to \windows and after confirming the files copied. I can see the correct images in \windows. I did a soft reset but the old images are still showing. I verified that the new images are in \windows. Why are the old images (AT&T crap) still showing?
Thank you.
Bumping = Bad
Sorry to bump my own thread, but I'm fairly confident that someone knows how to correct this problem.

its probably a cache issue, such as if u put a picture on a contact, then delete the picture, the picture is still on the contact.
but, i dont know how to do what you are asking.
You can just flash the rom im sure there are more customizable friendly roms out there.
I'm trying to change the icons on the app drawer with Root Explorer but I can't find the correct PNG to replace that on the system/app/"application.apk"/res/drawable/_____.png
Anyone knows the right name of the icon?
Thanks!
res/drawable-hdpi/file_manager_r.png ypu will have to turn the apk into a zip then put your new file into the hdpi folder and change the zip back to an apk then re install
Can I follow this steps with the Captivate or I need to do this on the computer?
Any easy way?
Thanks for the tip!
hi, i changed an image in drawable-hdpi in "phone.apk" (ic_jog_dial_unlock.png) like aceman said, but if i try to install new phone.apk it says "application not installed" (or something similar, my language phone is not english). how can i install new phone.apk??
I tried to istall it from recovery and there is the same result
thanks
You have to push the phone.apk file into /system/app with a root explorer or adb. Just installing it won't work like most other apks.
i have "root browser", can i use it? can u say to me all the steps i have to do with it or adb? i'm not an android expert user...
up...anyone ca help me?
install a different launcher app that lets you customize it. try launcherpro from the android market.
you wont understand the mod instructions.
screw it here they are...
mod instructions... basic if you need more info. learn to search there are 4000 guides on how to change an app image.
you need winrar on windows. if you arent running windows you should know better.
use root level file manager to go to 'system/app' folder and copy your launcher.apk to sdcard.
copy to PC
right click .apk > open with... > choose program > WinRar
look through folders inside APK and copy all folders with .PNG images to desktop (or work folder)
look through the images in the folders (change veiw to thumbnails) and find the name of the image you want to change and the name of the folder it was in.
Go get, or create your custom image, and name it that name. **Close to original shape size.
Use winRar to open the .APK again and naviage to the place where your image goes and drop the new one into that folder.
A window with options will come up and select Compression Profile : STORE
Click ok
Close winrar.
Copy .apk to SDcard
Use root file manager to rename original /system/app/launcher.apk to launcher.apk.bak (backup)
Then copy your modded .apk to /system/app.
Reboot (pull battery)
DONT MESS WITH ANY IMAGE ENDING IN .9.PNG only regular .pngs
for more on .9.pngs... search google.. what is ....
i*have*to*modify*phone.apk,*no*launcher.apk..*i*just*did*steps*you*sayd,*but*if*i*try*to*rename*phone.apk,*my*nexus*goes*in*full*crash
fist off this is the Captivate forums. not nexus.
and i was giving help to OP question not yours. either way the *stars*and*sp ac*es are friggin annoying. use your computer if your phone is messed up.
if you "tried" to modify the name... DID IT? try doesnt tell me much.
if it wouldnt let you, then nothing changed and your phone is screwed up from something else.
if it DID rename, then CHANGE IT BACK.. duh.
sorry for space and *, i wrote it with the mouse using google translate keybord and i saw them when i cut/past the text
i "tried" to rename phone.apk, so the phone went in a full crash and i had to restore system using an old backup in recovery

Try apktool to extract all replace wteva ocon u want to and rebuild apk using the same tool and u need to sign the apk usin signapk tool so that device can recognise the.apk file for installation. I have done this and everything went fine in galaxy note. But i couldn't locate the file to rename the icon. Icon changing was not a prob.
I need help creating a theme for Go Contacts. I have all of the .png's ready to go but after I replace all of the original .png's and pack it into the .zip and then into the .apk and put it on the phone I go to instal it. But every time after trail and error it says "Application not installed". I have gone through each and every .png to see if I have made an error and I believe I haven't. Any idea to what I could be doing wrong?
Same problem here, does anyone know the answer?
EDIT:
masonspisz12, did you use apk manager?
Basically I decompile the apk, swap images, compile apk then sign it.
Other things to do before compiling:
To change the name, its in res/values/strings.xml
Version number is in AndroidManifest.xml
Till this part the theme will still install over whatever theme you based it on.
To make it it's own, you need to change the package name.
The package name can be found in AndroidManifest.xml (package="blah.blahblah.something")
But changing that is not enough.
Go into the smali folder, right to the deepest folder.
There change the package name too.
Then change the folder structure names in the smali folder.
I got the hints for package name stuffs from the following posts:

Go Contacts theme .zip format
Hey Guys! I wasn't sure if I should ask but I hoped you might not mind. I really need a go contacts theme file in .zip format instead of .apk. I have searched everywhere to no avail. I saw your posts and thought maybe you may have one you're willing to share? If not I understand! Thank you! Email: [email protected]
Is there a way to change just the contacts and dialer pad to any custome color(love dark blue) on the Eclipse 3 Rom at all?...I have tried ex-dialer but that just adds a dialer.. I want to change to stock dialer..
Thank you
Rich
sorry for typos....I meant custom colors......and... Want to change the stock dialer.
Thank you
hello
no problem, copy your blurdialer.apk from system/app/ to your PC
and open this apk (by winrar) and to change backgroud edit file
go to /res/drawable-hdpi/bg_dialer.jpg
if you need to change dialer number backgroud color
go to /res/drawable-port-hdpi/dialer_background.png
dial numbers are in
/res/drawbale-hdpi-finger/ folder
you make easy edit this files overwrite with old one and, and move back blurdialer.apk when you done to /system/app/ in your droid
Hi Niko..
Thank you soo much!.. I have spent ages trying to do this .. I am a little unclear on some things though... I will put in quotes what I don't quite understand:
1-"open this apk (by winrar)"-- Is that the app winrar?..Like unzip the file then edit the hex numbers? to change the colors?.. I have only done anything remotely closely to that about a year ago..
2-"/bg_dialer.jpg" - what do I edit that with?.. just Notepad? or PaintNet
3-"dialer_background.png"--same question about what do i edit that with and is this just changing hex numbers or actually changing a picture, like changing the colors of pixels? and in that case I guess i need to be very careful to stay in boundaries..like not bleed over a couple pixels?...obviously that would not be a prob if i am just editing hex numbers.. I have never learned code..
4-"you make easy edit this files overwrite with old one and"-- I do not follow this.. I'm sorry...
Thank you again... I don't know why Droid 3 is so difficult to change the contacts list and dialer colors...
Rich
ad1. if you have instaled winrar on your PC you make look in all android applications xxxxxxx.apk and pull out and insert files
ad2. you need to edit by some graphic editor (paintbrush is also ok for that )
ad3. as ad2. you make easy change everything on this picture (but do not change a resolution)
ad4. when you done with editing your images open a orginal APK file with WINRAR and copy there a this new edited images (overwrithe the old one)
and pase edited xxxxxx.apk file to your system/app folder in your Droid 3 phone
sorry for my not easy to understand eng.
Thank you!!.. no problem about eng :good:
Well that was interesting...lol... Thank ** for nandroids...I did not know how to transfer files even with MyPhoneExplorer.. Just kept having probs that I did not know how to fix so I guessed and nope.. I took the dialer.apk..swapped files and put it back...not quite that easily though...and then couldnt even open the dialer nor contacts..I did a backup right before I started playing around.. I need to learn from square one how to do the advanced stuff..
Oh well, One of these days I will look back and laugh that I did not know how to do that...
Other phones just had apps that would change the theme of the dialer, but not droid 3 at least not with Eclipse 3 that I have found yet. I love the stability of Eclipse though..

Niko- Would you happen to know anything about editing Go Contacts.apk themes using APK Multi-tool? Thank You!!!:fingers-crossed:
I relize that this is the wrong thread for this, however I HAVE LOOKED EVERYWHERE, I have a LG Optimus Zone 2 with the same problem, I don't have the dialers or backgrounds described, I changed all that I could find: LGUSTelephonyProvider in system/app and LGContacts, LGContactsProviders, and LGTeleService in system/priv-app, have tried different dialer apks, and even Holo themer from the x-repository, Can anyone help?
Hi,
Just wondering if anyone has tried and tested the removal of bloatware apps from their Razr I XT890 running 4.12?
I'd be interested in cleaning the phone up a bit just to make it less crowded, I like to use real calc instead of stock calculator, go sms instead of stock messaging, zeam launcher instead of stock launcher etc etc.
I'm quite a novice when it comes to the technical side of things so would be too afraid to start deleting system apps incase they messed something up.
If anyone has seen a list compiled and could share, that would be great. Also, would it be Razr I specific, or would a general 4.12 safe removal list be safe to follow?
Any feedback appreciated

I think that for you would be easier use Titanium Backup or SystemAppRemover (need root acces) to remove apps.
If you want use the zip file you have to unlock bootloader and flash CWM. In CWM you can install zip files. # you must put in front of the line where is written desired app. Updater-script you can fing in the zip file /META-INF/com/google/android/
Thanks again, I actually have my phone rooted and was able to apply the debloater, however I don't want to remove everything so will restore the backup I took before trying it, I tried install the zip file with the edited script (with the # in front of the ones I wanted to keep) but it failed to install via recovery so I must be doing it wrong
I extracted the script file, opened with wordpad, edited, closed and saved, put it uncompressed back into the zip and tried it.
that failed, so I tried open directly from the zip, edit, close and save and flash that too but that failed too the original unedited one doesn't fail.
The error I get is something referring to error in zip file.

Do not use WordPad. Edify scripts require line endings to be linux style (LF only). Wordpad converts them to windows style (CR LF). Use another editor; I recommend notepad2-mod (set syntax highlighting, F12, to shell script)
See I edited and saved in wordpad and wasn't prompted to save in any other format, do you think it still saved in CR LF?
In the same script and another edit, I think I pasted something from somewhere else and went to save, but then it prompted me to save in the wordpad format itself (rtf I think it was) which I didn't, when I simply added a # or two, it just prompted to save without asking for format so it appeared to save as it was and not change anything? So you reckon it still changed it to the non-readable CRLF?
Would basic windows notepad be ok to edit it instead of having to download notepad 2?
Thanks for tyour help so far!
Maybe I'd be better just doing this via root explorer, of which I have some experience of. Is it just a case of locating each of the files listed in the script and deleting them or is there other hidden crap elsewhere that the script gets rid of which a simple root explorer delete won't?
