For those of you, who have your Hero Rooted and have a Custom ROM…
What is your favorite ROM or what is the best ROM for you and.... Why?
Kind of a odd question....
Everyone has differences in taste.
I was partial to fresh until I loaded up Darch - I'm never looking back. Sense is over rated and has far fewer options than AOSP.
My favorites are DamageControl and Darchdroid. Both are very similar. I'm just deciding which side of the line I want to stick.
Right now I'm on fresh 2.0d but as soon as Darchstar or caynogen release their froyo build I'm going straight to that.

Darchdroid...best rom out there
I enjoyed Aloysius and PureHero greatly.
Currently running darchdroid... not sure I will go anywhere else.
My vote is for Darchdroid. Was running DamageControl forever before recently switching and will never go back. Love AOSP.
Gotta love these threads......
Anyways....I'm currently using the latest (and I assume last) ZenEXP rom, and (w/ the exception of flashing the Froyo build a few days ago), this has been my daily for about 2 weeks. Not being a huge Sense fan, I actually enjoy how this one is set up, and I haven't experienced any of the annoyances I found w/ a few others. Everything that I need is functional, and doesn't FC on me when I need it the most.
Other than that, I will always keep good ol' FreshToast and any latest Darch ROM on Nandroid.
I'm using regawMOD with the darch kernal, and i must say its AMAZING.
I'm using darchdroid and it honestly makes my Hero feel like a new phone. I was super excited about the Hero and I watched countless Youtube reviews for it. I heard some people say it was sluggish at times but it was a good phone. I finally got my hands on it after upgrading from a BB8330 and I really liked my Hero at first. But as time went on I got more frustrated with it's slowness and was tempted to go back to my Blackberry just for the sake of it working properly. I installed the 2.1 HTC update and was probably a few days from throwing my Hero into the Hudson River With darchdroid, my phone is fast, incredibly snappy and it works like it should have. Only part of Sense I really miss is the giant clock widget with the weather, but I actually prefer the look of stock Android. No, darchdroid isn't paying me but his ROM is really incredible.
If your okay with just a large clock widget look up factory widgets in the market. The weather isn't attached but they have some nice 2x4 clocks.
I have used fresh and damagecontrol but have stuck with ZenEXP.
The main thing for me is voice mail notifications... I am not on sprint and for some reason my carrier are a bunch of idoits and doesn't know how to set up no answer transfer to google voice.
I am waiting to try Darchdroid but haven't had a chance to put it on yet.
I've tried:
Fresh 2.1.1 & 2.1.2
FreshToast 2.1
DamageControl 2.08.1 & 2.09.1
Aloysius 2.0.7
Darchdroid 2.6.2 & 2.7
In my experience, DC 2.08.1 (with this kernel) and Darch 2.7 are the most stable. All the others had deal breakers like battery drain, 100% wake time, non-working Facebook sync, and random FC's and lockups. I rocked DamageControl forever until a couple nights ago when I flashed DD 2.7, and I'm lovin it so far.
I'm on Buufed 2.01 It's like darchdroid with purty makeup on
I've left sense and will never lok back.
After rooting my Hero 2 days ago, I have tried several roms.
Zenexp
Fresh Rom
Aloysius
Darchdroid
Finally, I choose Darchdroid. It's fast and stable. I hope it could have a sense version. I like the htc widget.
I'm curious what the Nexus One community thinks is the best, most stable rom for running a Nexus with Sense UI. I tried evil D's Sense Froyo and it was decent but the graphical artifacts were a deal breaker (as he himself points out, they are pretty bad). There is that Foolpoof Guide in the development boards for running Sense with 2.1, but it seems very laggy on my Nexus One.
Are there any Sense UI Nexus One roms out there for the general public that are possibly running 2.2 that anyone here could recommend?

may give it a shot, enjoying enomther rom very fast and smooth, havent tried sense ui in awhile...
is it me or does it seem like there are no roms for the droid? Maybe im looking in the wrong spot or mis reading, but the only one I see in here is the simpledroid one. Is there another spot I should be looking or different site?
I just got the droid. I use to have the Eris and even the Eris had more roms (that I could find) Thanks for the help sorry if this was a dumb question I just cant find any!
List of Droid ROMs
I am about to trade my husband for his original Droid, and started looking for ROMs last night myself. I found this link useful (I can't post real links yet, so remove the spaces...)
h t t p ://w w w .droidforums.net/forum/android-roms/45504-updated-droid-rom-links-kernels-themes.html
Thanks will check that out. Anyone else know where to find more roms? because of friend of mine told me the droid had so many rom options to choose from.
ROMs
When you find out, please be sure to post here. I did a general search in the Moto Droid/Milestone forum for [ROM] Froyo and it didn't seem to come up with a whole lot.
I am also coming from Eris to Moto Droid, so I hear you! We were spoiled, and we need options!
Hey guys. Rom Manager in the market has lots. I think XDA doesn't have the best selection because for a long time they didn't support devices that weren't made by HTC. I am sure they will catch up eventually.
Thanks! I am still on my Eris for another week or two and just read on the Kaos forum that flashing from that app can quickly brick a phone. Myth? Perhaps just an issue with Eris?
Again, thanks for you help! I scoured for info before posting as to not take a brutal hit for asking something that has been answered 100 times already in an obvious place. Is there a good, clear thread or forum you would recommend for new Moto Droid users? Coming from the Eris community this all sounds like French to me.... Lol!

2 words... ROM Manager... available on the market

Just saw other post suggesting RM so to make up for repeating, here's a protip... go to www.blackdroidmod.com, forums, downloads and pick up Ultimate Droid 7. My gf (schizodj24 on forums) has it and it is great, nice and stable, fast and LOTS of customization options built in. To get it on ROM Manager you need the paid version ;-) another tip... once you get yourself rooted and a new custom ROM, search the XDA forums for SetCPU, XDA members get it free but it's MORE than worth the $1.99 donation so after you use and love it, show the dev some love
Edit: Stay away from Ultimate Droid 8 for the time being, still got some kinks to work out apparently...

Thank you everyone for the replies! I have some things to look through right now.
I personally have had bad luck with RM and Clockwork. Go over and register at droidforums.net (hope that's not crossing any lines :/ ) They have an excellent community full of very knowledgable people and a ton of ROMs. It seems like I'm flashing a new one every couple of days lol. Good luck!

As an Eris User myself (along with Moto Droid) Clockwork mod recovery has had issues with the Eris, although it may be different for other devices.
not to bring up a thread thats over a week old......
never used rom manager on my eris (when i had one) too many horror stories.
as for my moto droid 1 the only problems i have with rm had to do with rebooting into recovery either from rom manager or using the power button to reboot the device. once in recovery the device would freeze and then reboot.
so the only way i can get to recovery safely is to manually do it (pwr +x).
With the moto Droid and rom manager, set the preferences to delete previous recovery after having done this I have had no problems with recovery or flashing into recovery.

Thinking about buying a new og droid from amazon. Im downgrading from my Bionic as its bootloader locked and can't stand not having soap. I've had the DROID incredible and battery was horrible no matter what I did, had the fascinate, charge, and now am looking to stick to my android roots until my upgrade in november. So should I do it?
Honestly, I was thinking about doing it myself a while back. Don't know about the new ones but the OG Droid as I remember was very responsive to overclocking and ran great. I loved mine. Thing felt like a tank. Only thing to consider is CM will be dropping support for the OG Droid with CM9. Droids are dirt cheap and if you're good with fixing gadgets, you can get one with a broken digitizer for next to nothing.
I just recently fullfilled my 2 yr contract and was looking at new phones, but decided to try rooting and using a custom ROM on my OG Droid to get back some speed and functionality. I am no longer planning to fork over $ for a new phone
They're cheap, so the risk is minimal, but imho it is a painful experience running anything higher than Froyo/CM6 on the OG Droid. I know people swear by CM7 (and various scripts like V6, etc), but I have never gotten CM7 or any other GB ROM running smoothly for me.
The problem isn't the speed (I have mine OCed to 1.2ghz), its the memory. 256mb just isn't enough anymore.
so cm6 is the way to go? I have no problem with that. Whats the better setup with cm6 as far as kernel matching with cm6? Would like to hear some setups from anyone using the old school og droid.
Currntly running PE6. 5 on my og droid with the stock kernel which is 1.05Ghz lv. Have used the V6 scripts in past with so so results, am currently using Juwe's Ram Manager with pretty successful results.

Try going even farther back. Android 2.1 XD. I still have the old files sitting on my hard drive.
thanks! keep them coming
Looks like project elite 6.5 for me, unless they have something newer out. Anything else I need to know about project elite? Whats the verdict on it? Its hard to find info on the og droid roms, so much just scattered around.
It's an asop rom built by actngrezy, he has stated is working on a version 7 but nothing on it recently or date. Alot of info on PE roms at Droid Forums.

are you guys kidding me? this device is SO SLOW it's completely unusable. No matter how you tweak it, 256MB is just not enough. The day you go to a 512mb device, you will NEVER be able to return.... seriously
wow and who are and how have you helped the xda community. Try using a device with more than 512mb. I have. If I wanted your dumbass opinion on the d1 specs I would have asked for them. Clearly you have zero reading skills. Go troll somewhere else.
I found a brand new d1 for 100. Should be here today, looking forward to stepping back in time!
Ever think not everyone can afford a 299.00 phone. I love my d1, 256 and all.

well that's exactly it. I have come to the conclussion that I don't need an expensive phone anymore and actually my favorite phone was the htc magic running amon ra rom Three years ago. I have five main uses for android in my little world. phone, facebook, xda, pandora and email. Anything past that and the novelty dies off after a couple of days
Anyone have a working link for p.e. 4.2?

Gingerbread roms I'd recommend is Simply Stunning, Liquid, Project Elite, CushZero (as I'm using right now) im getting really good memory. I have been along time Droid user and tried just about every single rom that has been developed for it and finally found one that I can stick too.
If you're going to use Gingerbread, I'd recommend to use v6 supercharger (option 3 or superminfree calculator settings)

ive googled it alot but cant find it. i know all of his links are down.. but i figured some one would have it
Good luck. Blackdroid took all his toys and went home. And I don't hae much of his stuff in my collection either for personal reasons.
I wish some devs from 2009-2011 Droid 1 Era would make more roms for the Droid 1...
Well Cyanogenmod just released 7.2 last month and kfazz has been working on getting ICS working right here in these forums.
