Welll it looks like the update is finally out, users in the UK are updating to JPO through kies, just want to be on the latest firmware.

So why are users getting both JPA and JPO? how can we be in different regions in the same country?
Also through kies is it formating the sd card?

I suspect those getting JPA had installed FroYo via Kies nordic hack which changed their product code to XEE. I installed JPO via a different KIES hack before changing my product back to XEU.

I'm using JPO now, before I had JP6.
using oclf and almost done with installing all my apps.
seems to run very smooth. have not seen any thing yet.
Tried JPA 2 days ago (odin) but I messed something up so had to redo it.
and compairing JPA to JPO I would now say that JPO seems quicker.

Anyone know where I can get JPA so I can flash through ODIN? Kies is stuck on low battery...

[Q] Is there a way to find out what the stock firmware was of my SGS?

Hi there guys.
I can't remember whether my SGS had the JF3 firmware out of the box or not. And, since both JM7 and JM8 are not cutting it for me, I'd like to revert back to my phone's stock firmware. Is there a way to find out what the firmware "out of the box" used to be?
Thanks in advance.
europe = JM2 latest stock
Thank you for your reply.
So JM2 is basically the latest non-beta firmware version?
Also, should I use the "usual" method to flash JM2 and should I get the files at samfirmware?
Please bear with me as I am very new to this flashing stuff.
samfirmware is fast and easy
or you can do it via Kies but it's a challenge dealing with Kies as most people can tell you

Kies would not update me past JM1. I flashed an old firmware to my phone and as expected Kies prompted me for a firmware update. Only to JM1 though and after JM1 was installed it said my phone was up to date, idk if this is the same for everyone else just letting you know ...
Is it even possible to "downgrade" by using Kies? Cause I can't seem to get it to work, even with all of the registry hacks described in several threads, here on XDA.
Guess I'll have to use Odin after all...

I have encountered the same in the past. Not sure on which productcode JM2's available.

[Q] Upgraded to JP6 Froyo - future upgrade a problem?

I upgraded to Froyo JP6 using the Kies registry hack method and all seems well. However now it has been withdrawn in favour of developing the 'fast' Froyo ROM and after reading cases of people losing IMEIs when downgrading I am concerned.
I have it rooted and OCLF applied, which when it comes to upgrade again I will remove as usual.
Can anyone tell me if it is likely that there will be problems upgrading to the new Froyo when it is eventually released because I am on JP6 now?
Thanks!

If you saved what you have changed in the registry you won't have any problem. When the new update is available just use the old values in registry. Good luck

Hm. I didn't save what I changed
I think I only changed one character in 3 keys, from U to E as I recall.
Having said that this JP6 was officially available through KIES, so won't it just update as and when? Even if it only gets updates when they're released in the Norwegian territory?
Presuming that KIES in Norway (if indeed, that's where it was) did present the update normally, without any hackery.
I have no problems at all with this JP6 though. Everything's a lot more stable than before, about as fast without a lagfix as ECLAIR was with a lag fix.
And there's always ODIN to get back on track if something newer comes out

[Q] Going from JG5 to JPO Froyo

Hi,
I've tried searching for this but haven't found all the info I need before I take the plunge. The phone is a 16GB model originally from Vodaphone but with no sign of branding.
Early on after getting this phone I flashed JG5 2.1, and since then kies hasn't shown any firmware updates.
I haven't found a definite way to hack kies to upgrade from JG5 directly to JPO, so I'm thinking of going the Odin route.
Some people say you have to flash to JM8 then to JPO, is that true? Or can I go directly to JPO downloaded from Samsungfirmware?
many thanks for any help I can get

This should be in general or Q/A. In future don't post in Development just because it gets more traffic.
I updated via Kies using the registry hack to go from JM1 to JPO, without any problems. On samfirmware it does say you should flash JM8 then JPO but I'm not sure if this makes any difference. My phone is going great since I updated to JPO, straight from JM1. All I can say is that if you try it you've got nothing to lose. So why not?
ALSO! Please make sure that you can access download mode. If not use one of the fix's on this forum.

This is the same question with me. I want to upgrade from froyo XXJPA to JPO, why should the JM8 then to the JPO??
and what CSC, PHONE and MODEM files should I use since theres only PDA ...

Which root for FROYO.DTJP5 PDA:JP5 PHONE:JP3 CSC:JP4 Australia Optus (using on Three)

People in Australia are of course happy with the release of Froyo.
Did my updates etc. Now I got 2.2 running and want to know how to root this. I see there are some one-click apps and programs out there. But which one would be best for my
FROYO.DTJP5
PDA:JP5 / PHONE:JP3 / CSC:JP4
????
(more details of my version in signature below)
Next, I would like to know how to change the boot animation?
and did someone get call recording working (as in the Korean version)?
Do you have 3 button combo working? If you do its probably easier to flash new kernel that has root in it plus it will have lagfix options or better still install new jpu 2.2.1 fast as hell and no need to lagfix.

Thanks, you are the 2nd person to suggest JPU 2.2.1. I will look into that. However, I read it will not recognize Kies anymore. Before, as most I hated Kies. But with the new Froyo update it finally works and syncs even the Outlook pictures. I still dont know what the lags entails, and what the benefits are of JPU 2.2.1. So would be glad to hear more about the differences.
For the reader. I was able to use z4root. The installation of z4root didnt go correctly. But it was there after a restart and root was succesful.
I used z4mod for my DTJP5, and it's working fine.
VeenK, did you upgrade via kies or odin?

[Q] What firmware use to upgrade from 2.2 to 2.2.1

Hello,
I've a Galaxy-S (was from T-Mobile Uk, but I unlocked it, debranded it and so on), it used to be 2.1, so back in november I updated to 2.2 using the Kies trick (changing the area code and so on). Now I'm finding myself *not-so-happy* about many bugs that are around (sometimes apps just crash... etc..). I'd like to go to 2.2.1 if this would help. But Kies doesn't even show an available update, so I was thinking of flashing one with Odin. Which one do you recommend?
My firmware is XXJPP. I don't remeber how to get other info/codes, so tell me how if you need them.
Also, I'm ready to wipe everything, but I'd avoid it. So tell me how.
Thanks.
JPY or WJS8 in UK with CPW csc .
Build your own in the rom kitchen .

I suggest you the JS8 ROM. Is the last froyo 2.2.1 european firmware. You can use the JS8 rome in the romkitchen to customize your fw as you want
Odin for flashing Kies for orugnal upgrade
Is JS8 an official upgrade from JPY(2.2.1)? For the UK aswell????
Or is it just a general European(including UK) update?
I'm on JPY right now. Upgraded officially from JPO(2.2) in the UK.
Do you think it is better to flash JS8 firmware?
(I have tried 2.3.3 JVK but I would rather wait for the official gingerbread update)
JPY is still the most current firmware for UK. I'm in Australia and have been using it since release. Docs version of course.
JS8 is Nordic I think.

For stock go to samfirware.com, sign up, download Odin and jpy 2.2.1 (for UK). Install with Odin without repartition ticked and you should still have your apps/data.
Site has all the files and instructions you need. Just make sure you have download mode.
2.2.1 is miles better than 2.2. You'll wonder why you waited so long.

The networks do not upgrade all the incremental updates JPY last one in general use and none have bothered to push out the later upgrades preferring to wait for the official release of 2.3 .
Either JPY or WJS8 will work well on UK phones .

I tried both the kitchen and the: stock Rome. Even if the kitchen seems so clever and you don't need Odin in order to upgrade, I ended up with a 2.2.1 Tom that didn't have the market app, and other basic ones. Plus the media scanner was crashing every 10 seconds. Another one started up in Chinese and kept crashing various system apps. That's to say that it is not the best choice for stability. Instead I went to samfirmware got 2.3.2 and it is stable, clean and fast. Using Odin is easy in the end so I recommend this if you want a fully functional phone. And gingerbread is so faaaast
That's to say that it is not the best choice for stability.
You are doing something wrong then as its the safest and most problem free method .

I have 3uk sgs and immediately went for odin for all my flash updates.
First thing is to check u have three button combo working. Just pull the battery to get out of that mode.
I'd go straight to gingerbread JPK. And with the few, clockworkmod zips you can add battery percentage and a few other nice things that aren't included.
I haven't looked back as jpk is such a great rom - memory management is sorted so no need for autokillet or taskmanagers.
