[Q] Changing ProductCode - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, with the latest update of Kies looking like its required for the Froyo update, I'm struggling to update my Galaxy S to an unbranded firmware.
Does anyone know if its possible (and how) to change the productcode of your device? I'm assuming if you can do this to one of the many ones mentioned on this site, then Kies would work without problem?
Any advice much appreciated (have conducted a search and can't find any way to do this so far).
Thanks.

Have you read http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=780509 ?

I'm an idiot. No, my searches didn't lead me to it, which is somewhat embarrassing...
Thanks for pointing it out.
Andy.

[Q] Galaxy S I9000 cannot be updated

Hello,
I have this phone and after trying to update it thru Kies I get this message:
This device's version cannot be updated I see also this numbers in the same window:
PDA:JM6 / PHONE::JM1 / CSC:JM4
I'm really new to this and I simply wanted to have Froyo on my phone. Is this possible? I really don't know what this number means. I live in Slovenia (Europe).
Thank you for any kind of advise.

[Q] Debrand Galaxy S Three Ireland

I have a Galaxy S from Three (Ireland) and I want to unbrand this sucker. I'm sick of waiting for Froyo to be released (Three will not confirm nor will they give a release date) and even when it is updated, Im sure it will slow my phone down like it has done with the 2.1 Eclair. Im fairly new to this and don't know where to start. Help would be much appreciated
Can someone please point in the right direction?
Did you have any luck with this? Sorry for opening an old thread.

Do you have the 3 button combo ? if so, flash a ROM using odin, The latests Firmwares can be found at www.samfirmware.com
Flash it and you will have a super clean stock ROM, then the rest is upto you, whether you go custom or not.

[Q] Upgrading to froyo from 2.1 seems to be a problem

Hello!
I recently (2 days ago) bought a Samsung Galaxy. It was second hand from a guy who bought it via Amazon.de (Germany here) in August.
The systeminformations tell me the OS atm is at version 2.1 but I want to update it to 2.2
Now the Problem: Kies doesn't let me do that :/
Here are some facts a friend of mine and me found out:
When trying to uodate via Kies it displays
modellname: gt-i9000
aktelle version: pda:jm1 / phone:jm1
diese geräteversion kann nicht aktualisiert werden

Click to collapse
which, roughly translated, means
modellname: gt-i9000
version atm: pda:jm1 / phone:jm1
this device version can't be updated

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Samsung\Kies\DeviceDB is noted as GT-I9000HKDDBT
when "calling" *#1234# the following infos come up:
PDA : I9000XXJM1
PHONE : I9000XXJM1
CSC : I9000OXAJM1
any idea what to do next? :/ my friend suspects that the phone is from UK and this is what could be the problem
any help would appreciated, thanks!
more or less shameless selfbump

I'll do
(and also: bump)
have you guys tried the kies reg hack?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=835628
me and a buddy were messing around with it today, if you dont want to get a "non" official rom we went into the registry after we hit write in the hack and deleted the following key.
HKEY_current_user\software\Samsung\FUS\KiesServer this will DELETE the server where custom roms are housed (custom being beta samsung roms) and I think point your kies to the legit KIES server.
Basically it tells kies that your phone is an older version and will tell you an update is available. If it says JM1 is the one available then your phone is up to date.
Make sure you enable spoof to False and hit write after, this will put your registry back to how it was before the hack.
i feel dumb.
my problem was: i trusted kies.
it said it was the newest version.
it wasn't
so: thanks specter! good luck dale!
spectre, tnank you very much for helping us out, that hack worked a treat, now running froyo, THANKS BUDDY!

[Q] debranding and sim unlocking on galaxy s

I have a samsung galaxy gt-1900 s locked to Orange. I wish to debrand it and get it unlocked. It's firmware is PDA:JP8/PHONE:JP3/CSC:JP8(ORA) according to Kries. The phone tells me firmware 2.2.
This is my first android phone and the first time even thinking about doing anything like this. However if there is someone out there who could or would kindly point me in the right direction I would be grateful. Thanks in anticipation. P.

Thanks for the reply but the post didn't seem to help, or I'm being obtuse.P.
Hi man, first to unlock you can go to samfirmware and pay about 18dollars for the unlock codes like many of us.
Second, in samfirmware are all the stock roms up to date and the tutorials on how to do it, or choose a custom rom in this forum and give it a try, many of us are usig darky's, he has all the instructions for a new install, its easy to do, if u have any problems just say something.

[Q] Confused about updating to Gingerbread

I'm in the USA with an AT&T version of the Tab. Am I able to upgrade to Gingerbread manually? If yes, can someone point me in the right direction to the best/easiest way to upgrade? FYI: I don't have any custom ROMs installed and have never really hacked my Tab beyond installing a new launcher.

Go here. The attachment in the first post will walk you through the process. Read it 3 times over before you do anything just to make sure you know what you are doing. Other than that, it's pretty easy and worth the upgrade.
And if slimdizzy's thread don't float yer boat then try this one - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1078622
Its a thread that takes you by the hand and holds it for every step (thankyou Jacktackle)... It"s a good guide if you were like me and a TOTAL noob at flashing the GT...
Cheers...
You may need the modem.bin file for your brand of GT. That can be found in the link slimdizzy gave you. Just read through the modems, you'll find the right one...
