Would anyone want the CM6 Browser w/Incognito Mode ported to the vibrant? I just contacted @Optedoblivion on twitter maybe we can get this started. Can we just pull over the apk? Or do we have to modify any framework files?
If anyone is interested in getting this started feel free to share it here. I'd be also interested in porting over some other CM6 features. We might not get a full CM6 rom for a while so why not port over some of the stuff?
Why do you need that? what exactly are you going to do with it
I for one am very interested in this and any other possible ports!

Incognito mode aka porn mode
I'm for getting that ported, useful feature, even some might be embarrassed to admit it.
I don't know much about porting but I can code pretty well
Just take his AOSP Rom, it's already modded and only need the kernel change to one of my kernel's.. it boots perfect & you could add back Twiz if needed..
I had it running for a few days, only thing left to due was Mod the Dialer & contacts to stock & I never had time to look it over..
I too would love this app for JI6 Stock. I like the stock ROM and like to just mod it to work. The Music port from CM6 is amazing.
I would kill to have any version of the CM browser working on my Vibrant. I miss my options to turn off the zoom controls, among others, and despite everyone saying that Incognito Mode is solely for porn, it's a handy feature for debugging websites. Want to be certain that you're not working from cached data, or with cookies that are left over from your last session? Incognito Mode to the rescue! Turn on Incognito Mode and you don't have to wipe all your saved history, cookies, and cache, but you can still check out your newest changes to your site as if you had.
But I think the main road block to a port (and correct me if I'm wrong) is that it would mean loosing the basic Flash support that we now enjoy in the stock browser.
No one has actually tried to just copy over the files, I imagine?

I'm interested in being able to change the useragent properly... A simple copy over won't work. A genius like eugene373 would have to handle this probably Lool.
I haven't spent much time debugging it myself so I honestly don't know. I could try compiling it from source from CM6 git and logcatting from there but I'm a busy guy...

A simple copy over might work using the fascinate browser with acompanying libs. Possibly without. Im pretty sure the fascinate is using the stock eclair browser which can switch user agents. If that works properly assuming that my lack of sleep hasnt made me retarded yet. It shouldnt be too difficult to get the cm5 browser to work on our 2.1 roms. I mean thats a positive step right?
Edit: so I was wrong about the fascinate. But I have gotten the cm5.0.8 browser to load up but force closes when I enter browser settings. Any one interested in taking a look?
Why not just use the commands on the current browser works just fine by typing into the browser about:debug for debugging options obviously about:useragent to switch modes other commands I havent found a use for so I don't remember them but you can google them.

Does the browser still work when you change settings in the debug menu?
My browser starts force closing every time I open it until I use titanium backup to restore the browser settings.
I want this
CM6 Browser for FroYo
I got the CM6 browser working on Samsung Galaxy S
this is Froyo only! - adb push to system/app to replace the stock browser
invert and disable zoom controls do not work it will require framework mods
to get thoes to work.

can some one find a fix for jpo browser ? still the browser is much lags much when flash is on so some one do have a fix for it ? other roms like jp6 has a fix but anyone has the fix for this
The only "fix" that i did was installing Opera mini as the default browser. At least is faster and its free.Just saw the omnia 7 windows mobile phone surfing the net with amazing speed.Just dont understand why on android its so awfull
Because there is no flash right now on winphone7.
Its because wp7 has a crippled browser that does not support everything the stock webkit browser can do. Read all the reviews on wp7 and you'll see them all dislike it. Also can't you use the libwebkit.so file from galaxy tablet fix.

Any ideas?

HONEYCOMB MUSIC PLAYER
for the Epic 4G
Zip provided courtesy of DearmasFamily
This is the HoneyComb MusicPlayer ported to the Epic. I applied it to the Bonsai 2.0.1 rom with sucess. What bugs I've noticed are 2. The controls in the status bar pull down aren't there but a notification that opens the app is. Also I noticed music skipping when heavy use or long scrolling a list. Let's get some more testers and see how it works across multible roms. This player was written for a minimum api of Froyo. That means no dice for 2.1. The update zip is edify but I had no success from clockwork. Instead extract the files to your sd and use root explorer to move them in place but remember to fix the permissions. Match them to the other files in system which is all the first row top to bottom checked and the first box on the second row from within rootexplorer.
Alternatively you can adb push these files and change the permissions as well if you know how to do that. This is a work in progress and works well for a drop in port.

I manually mounted system, but it still didn't take. Let me know what you come up with.
yup, script issue. they had set_progress instead of show_progress and the mount commands were hokey so i think it was just failing for syntax. the attached works like a charm and i left the dearmas ui print and everything in tact
Thank you very much. I have a PM from Skeet07 with a fixed version as well. Thank both of you for tweaking the update zip.
initial take on first few minutes is i'm really digging the interface. actually my biggest pet peeve on the stock music player is the default tab is "all." seriously? i want to see every individual track and not first go by artist and maybe album? so the default view is key and expanding to albums when you pick an artist is sexy.
it audio skipped for a second when i backed out and while it put the notification on the pulldown, no biggie. and obviously we arent going to get the pulldown controls for a drop and port, but that would be nice! at least we have the ongoing notification to easily pull up the player if needed. and i like how if you have a track playing and you move around in the player that it keeps the now playing nice and neat at the bottom. very cool
will provide more feedback on use and function later.
Very well put and note on the epic you can still use the stock player as well
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
oh, and that being said, i paused the honeycomb player and opened the stock player and the 2 were definitely in conflict with one another. controls for one were hitting the other. so yeah you can use both but keep it to one at a time, lol
The player is supposed to disable the froyo player so this might be part of the"chopping", I'll look into it.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
further review:
after using the player a bit more, i noticed a few more things. REALLY digging the UI, it does the same effect that gallery3d does with the background. it can stream music (apparently, not tested) and link to your google account to do so.
there are icons (down arrows) where you can add a song, album or even an entire artist to "Play" "Add to playlist" "delete" or "search" for. search pulls up a popup for your browser, music players, pandora, winamp youtube etc...
i DID notice those choppy/skippy effects happening pretty much whenever hte player is interupted, like hitting power to lock the screen, hitting home to navigate away from the player and when any other app initiated an action so it could be a memory issue. its only for a second so its not a dealbreaker.
i could not locate a 5.1 option like with the stock player, so i'm not using it for music atm (since my car DOES receive 5.1 in, yes!) but am playing downloaded podcasts with it and diggin it.

by stock do you mean the stock DK28 Tar. flashed via odin? if so you are odexed and i think thats why this wont work, you should be deodexed. either get the 1 click odexer deodexer tool or flash the ACS stock deodexed ROM if you want stock. otherwise flash a custom deodexed ROM, then install this.

CM usually refers to CyanogenMod.
CWM, on the other hand, usually refers to ClockworkMod.

I just flashed back to the rom I backed up right before. Thanks.
Hi. After trying Honeystreak 2.0, I fell in love with the 120 screen density. However, I know since some people may not want to upgrade to Honeystreak for some reason or another, or just like Froyo more than Honeycomb, I am working on modding the stock 2.2 ROM to use a lower screen density, giving it more of a tablet feel.
So, I've already lowered the screen density to 120 (I can use 130 or 140 if people prefer) and I am trying a few different launchers (I saw a stock Froyo launcher in an Evo 4G thread, it if looks good, I might use that, to get more of a stock Android experience) because Dell Stage does not look good if you change the density. I might to a couple build.prop edits, to make it feel smoother, and I plan on removing or adding apps (it's already root, so Superuser and Root Explorer will be included.)
If anyone has any requests for apps to add or remove, any advice that might help, or anything else useful, please feel free to tell me.
Also, since this uses the 2.2 kernel, this should be flashable through CWM, which is the main reason I am making it. Basically, it'll be stock Froyo, on the stock kernel, designed to feel more like a tablet.
Since this is more of a discussion than a ROM release, being that it's not out yet, if this would be better in general, mods can feel free to move it
EDIT: So, here are the changes from stock Froyo: Dell Stage has been replaced with Launcher Pro (set to display a 6x6 icon grid), it's pre-rooted and comes with Super User and Root Explorer, the build.prop has been edited for a 130 screen density, less frequent scanning for a wifi network (to save battery), and smoother scrolling and scaling. I want to find a user agent that enables all market apps, and remove some bloatware.
Love launcher pro, if you could theme it like ginger bread that would be awesome too.

I don't think the free verison of LauncherPro is themable, but I can probably install a Gingerbread themed launcher as an alternative.
More a kernel than a ROM thing, but I want tun.ko, and I know some others want CIFS.. I'm really missing using OpenVPN on my DS7, as it's the only way I can sync my Google account at work on wifi without tethering to my phone.

lol. It's Froyo because, unlike DJ_Steve, I am not awesome enough to port anything else. Modding the OS it comes with is alot easier than making a new one
Anyways, I am basically using Build.prop and adding/removing APK's to make it feel more like a tablet. Then, I'm going to create a zip using CWM or something.
I would like it to be fast and swift with no bloat wear and also support for swapper 2

Send dj steve some dr dre beats headset funds and im sure he will let you use his gingerbread and then you can mod it with cwm and change density and maybe add overclocking lol
Try Zeam Launcher. It's pretty simple, but free and you can customise the rows/columns and such to make it more tablet-like.
I'd like to see overclock, black notification bar, and improved battery life. If there's anything that can be done to make Cell Standby not such a hog (way more battery goes to this over my Galaxy Tab), that would be awesome.
Well, as far as improved battery life, for the WiFi version, the cell apk's will be disabled by default, and I did a build.prop edit that scans for open wifi networks less frequesntly, so if WiFi is on but not connected, you drain less battery scanning. I've tried changing the Browser user-agent in build.prop, but when I went to whatismyuseragent or whatever that site is, even though it said I was using Mozilla 5, it still knew it was Android, so I'm looking for a way to better spoof a PC, so mobile sites aren't viewed by default. As far as editing cell standby or overclocking, I might get DJ_Steves Streakdroid 1.3 build, and then apply my changes to that, so you get the overclocking kernel, but that would mean taking away Bluetooth. Also, I'm still trying to figure out how to rip the ROM with clockwork - if I just make a backup, it checks the MD5, so it won't work for someone else.

things to add
A couple of major things to have would be :
1) a modified wpa supplicant file to allow tethering to adhoc (pm me if u need it)
2) any basic file explorer
3) a working overclock
4) vtl launcher - xda flavor
Just a few for thought

There are several features that I am used to on CM7 that I miss daily on my tablet. Primarily, the notification power widget and the ability to swipe to clear notifications. Also, being able to select the rotation angles available would be handy.
Would be nice but might be a bit much: Automatic backlight level adjustments and lockscreen tweaks.

Oh god yes, I am going crazy without it! How do you get rid of a single notification if you dont want to open the app? For example, when downloading updates from the market. I love the ability to swipe swipe swipe, open, swipe. I have never once accidentally dismissed something I didnt want to, so I dont see how it could be even remotely annoying.
For me it seems like the most intuitive solution.

Options: the beauty of Android. I second the swipe to clear a single notification idea.
I wish I could do that. I'm basically just using APK's and build.prop tweaks to get it how I want it. I don't know enough about programming for Android to do anything interesting :-/
Basically, as of now (and untill I figure out how to rip the ROM for public upload) it's a lower screen density, some build.prop tweaks for smoother scrolling and better battery life, running on rooted Froyo. It's pretty basic :-/
Just to get used to the android OS dev side I am going to attempt to blend Meego/Maemo features with android. I will be using the V10k firmware as a basis.
I'm curious as to features you may wish to see in a rom. My main goals are:
Tri-screen functionality: Custom home, Apps, Running apps (Similair to Meego)
Customizable folders for the app screen
Onestop Keyboard (Swype, switch between qwerty and T9/numeric style)
3d functionality remaining
Possible Debian install
Removal of ALL spare apps. If it isn't required, it's gone.
EDIT:
Possible extra features
Option to uninstall apps from app screen via long press.
Option to hide/lock apps
EDIT (Final):
PROGRESS: Android is a surpisingly easy OS to work on and there is a LOT of devel to look at in terms of starting points for coding. I currenty have a debian distro runningwith the android OS. Apt-get works fine, however there is not enough space install any application. This Rom may either be out very soon, or depending on memory issues my be impossible without relying on an SD.
Unlocked tether and wifi hot spot
I'm most concerned with battery longevity. Don't know if you'd call that a feature, but to me it's one of the most important parts.
Wish List for new ROM on LG Thrill
I love this Thrill, for the most part, but I wish that the Phone app, where you see the
Dial, Call Log, Contact and Groups, would work same way as the Stock Android does... basicaly, take out the Groups and put Favorits.
This Group to me is very slow every time I click on it takes 5 to 10 seconds to load.. and then I have to presse the Favorits... which I use the most... so..
Yes, I have about 1700 contacts on my list, but even with just a just contacts, this buttons GROÜPs is very slow.
Also, I wish that the Flash on teh 3D camera mode would work, because right now, only in 2D mode is that the Flash works... I think it is just a setting in some internal files or on the Camera apps that blocks the Flash when in Video or still pic.
Thanks and let us know if these changes are possible or not.
Ron
WIFI Unlock and tether: I belieive its been done on other roms so it should be no problem
Battery: I will see what I can do. The ROM will just be a bare bones OS so there should be very little to eat up the battery.
Contacts to favorites and camera flsh: I'll have to look into this and let you know.

There is a reason behind the flash not working during 3D. They blocked it because the light from the flash messes with the 3D camera. Sure this could be a feature still, just saying this doesn't work for a good reason.

I was actually thinking on waiting for the Gingerbread update before starting. The update should be coming anywhere between novemeber and the end of december.
If I wait, then it will give me a bit more time to get familiar with android as an OS andcome up with various way to get the maemo/meego/android mix feel just right. Progress has been fairly fast however. I'm still having memory issues with the debian however. Also, the UI get very buggy. I might just look into utilizing some outside programs.
How would you guys feel if I outed the stock home and keyboard and replaced it with someothing like GO launcher and keyboard?

I'm using Koush's CM9 Alpha 12 ROM at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1356228 with the Franco kernel, and I'm saddened that it's sorely missing one big feature that i'm used to in the NSCollab ROM i came from. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=959282)
In the stock Android 2.3.3 that came with the phone, if the Facebook app was installed, it could sync contacts over from your account, including phone numbers, emails, and pictures. The OTA 2.3.4 removed that function, as Google had deemed it as a violation of their TOS.
NSCollab (based off of CM7), which i'd used since 2.3.5, enabled that function somewhere in the system files, and it was fully usable, no questions asked. The CM9 build i'm using, however, lacks that feature.
I've compared both of their build.prop files and don't see any differences that would stand out, and I'm at an impasse here. I'm almost determined to find the setting in the CM7 ROM that allows Facebook syncing on this device and be able to use it in CM9. I'm not sure i want to comb every system file, though. Any assistance?
The reason it works in custom ROMs is because they patch it to work. It's not a build.prop issue I do not believe. It is a bit deeper than that. Hopefully someone can she some light to get it working. It's a feature I use as well.
But that's the explanation "why" it does not work.. because it's not supposed to by design lol.
by no means do I have an answer but, syncmypix in the market is a decent alternative for the tome being.

I'd determined that long ago, but i'm almost certain there's a flag somewhere in the system files. My cousin has an HTC Thunderbolt (horrible phone on the stock ROM) running the stock ROM, Gingerbread 2.3.5, and it's enabled on it. I know that Google specifically disabled it on their flagship phones, and i want to know how they did it and how to reverse it.

I have tried Syncmypix, Friendcaster, and another one that tries to re-enable native syncing, but none of them work near as well as native syncing.
In GB it was in system\app\ContactsProvider.apk , one line need to be added which whitelists com.facebook.katana. Maybe it's the same in ICS.
[edit]
There, I looked it up: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=978470
Here you can find the official statement from Google about Facebook sync:

Anyway you can sync your contacts using Friendcaster and you can update your contact pics using syncmypix

Just tried it, and found out that comparing the two ContactsProvider.apk files (from CM7 and CM9), that ICS does not use the arrays.xml that Gingerbread did. Adding it in, recompiling it, and signing it results in FC's and wiping out your contacts storage. Thank god for Titanium backup.
Edit: Derp, found out system apps aren't supposed to be signed. Trying again.

Here you can find the official statement from Google about Facebook sync:

Anyway you can sync your contacts using Friendcaster and you can update your contact pics using syncmypix

I well know what Google did, and i'm very disappointed in them. And i'd rather not use third-party apps if we can enable native syncing at the system level.
Pushing the unsigned apk doesn't cause FC issues, but it still doesn't sync. The Facebook app cuts off at "Other Settings". Does anyone want to test out the apk for me, see if they get the same results?
The APIs are different in ICS and doing the white list trick may not work. Check out the smali folder because there could be stuff that needs to be changed in there too...

I've already tried this. You'll be able to get the account to sync in Accounts, but the new contacts app is substantially different from the Gingerbread one... Like ^ says, I think a few smali edits have to be made to include this properly.

I'm combing the smali folder as we speak, but nothing stands out as a definitive match
The one problem about ics, you're working to fix. Thanks man! I hope you find your answer!
Haven't found it yet, though. I've been trying to get into contact with koush, see if he's had any insight.
MoDaCo got it working on the Galaxy Nexus. If anyone has the galaxy yet, you could upload his rom and them comb through the /system and see what has been changed. we could then possibly implement it for the Galaxy S as well.

when you go through the Rom kitchen on their site it says the option is installed to system partition
Awesome, good looking out. Downloading it now, i'll be combing the files right away. You don't need to have the actual phone to peek at the system files
But unfortunately, it seems that it is a premium feature.

You can download it. I did earlier. Look at the first post of the thread its there.
The premium stuff is like to cook your own. I'm sure the standard one available in the first post has it implemented.

Oh, sweet. I'm not familiar with that developer, so i didn't know how he does his stuff. I'll push and pull some files to and from my phone, see if i can't get it working.
