question about videos.... - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

is there a way to resize a video so you can send it via mms? i dont always wanna switch the settings to "mms video" in order to capture a vid and send it that way u know? what if i was recording something but then wanted to send via mms but couldnt cuz size? so i have to basically know right away that whatever i record it has to be either mms format or regular format? am i making sense??! lol. i hope so. any help is appreciated!!
edit: seems like i cant send 720 p videos... i have to have the lower res to send vids via mms is that true?

you can use handbrake take your video in hq and edit it to scale for mms with handbrake

There's no way of doing it on the phone itself? Or is handbreak only a desktop application?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App

no you will have to use a pc handbrake is free and works well after you learn how it works

Most videos are going to be to big to send thru text messaging app so just go to your gallery to where your videos are and long press the video you want to send. It will then give you more options and one will be to share. Then just click gmail or any other email and continue from there.
ahhhh yes thanks I always forget about long pressing!
lol, no problem

[Q] Some questions regarding capturing, sending, & playing videos

Okay, so there have been a few things that are really kind of irritating me with the videos on the Captivate... of course it could all be operator error and there may be fixes for it all, so that's where you guys come in
1. It seems I can't send a video I have shot over gmail unless it's at one of the absolute lowest resolutions and lasts no more than like 10 seconds. Is there anyway around that? This is even over wifi. Shot a video last night, and couldn't get it to send until I had it on the second to lowest resolution and kept it super short (10ish seconds)... This seems pretty ridiculous considering my old phone could at least send a minute or so of pretty good resolution video without any problems and didn't give an error.
Anytime I try to send a larger or longer video so far on my Captivate, it says file too large and ends up sending a blank email to the recipient.
2. If the battery is below around about 20% I think, the phone won't even allow you to play videos... Likewise, you can't even open the camera app if the battery is on the lower end. I dunno, I feel that's kind of crazy. I mean if I wanna utilize my last few minutes of my phone's life watching a video or taking a pic for whatever reason, shouldn't I be able to make that executive decision? lol.
Soooo is there anything I'm missing here that would fix these problems for me?

1. Are you trying to send a video you previously recorded or trying to send new video you just captured?
Have you tried - opening the mms or email app first and adding an attachment. When asked what attachment you select Camera. Then record video and let the app compress it before sending. This has worked well for me.
2. Heard this complaint about videos and music players alike. I couldn't provide any info on that matter as I haven't been agitated by that particular scenareo yet...
Hope this helps.

Umm well mostly video that has just been captured or previously recorded. When I go to the gmail app first and go to attach, it only lets me choose image files rather than video. Sigh. :-/
Thanks for your reply though, I really appreciate it

no way to send videos from hd7?

not email or mms video... damnnn.. i dont see the option...

mms using front camera?

Hi all..I have a GN 7000 w/ XXLRQ. and the Speedmod kernel.
I want to take and send mms using the front camera.
The stock messaging app won't allot it.
Handcent messaging won't allow it either.Although. Handcent will allow the front camera use, but NOT allow 'limit for mms video", so you cannot send for too large of a file.
Has anyone been able to use your front camera for mms sending?
And if so... what app and *how to* do you do it?
Thanks for reading. All replies are welcomed and encouraged.
thanks again
oops.. i meant to say "Video" mms.... not a regular still photo pic, but a Video mms using the front camera... sorry for the mistake
Use kicksend......

Why don't you just take a picture using the camera app and then attach it to your mms? Why so complicated?

" I want to shoot a VIDEO mms using my front camera..
the stock mms wont allow it, neither will Handcent.
i did look into Kicksend briefly, but it doesn't appear to be a messaging type app,,
Does anyone know how to, or know of a messaging app that allows VIDEO mms using the front camera of out GN7000.. using XLRG.? thanks...
The app camera jb+ lets you shoot videos using the front cam.

but.... can you use that front cam to shoot and send video mms?
sure you can shoot video with the front cam... save its file ....
just cannot send it via mms...
can you link us to this app JB+ .. we'll give it a go to see if we can use the front cam to shoot and send video mms.
thanks
You can send every video stored on your phone as a mma. There is no need to have an app with that functionality built in. And the camera jb+ app is available on google play.

I can send an 'mma' as an attachment on a txt message??? mms??
Please explain how todo that?? thanks.....
Sorry mma was a typo, I wanted to write mms of course
Simply start writing a sms, click on the attachmet symbol in the bottom left corner and select video. The gallery opens and you can choose the video you want to send. Of course if the video is too big it won't work so I suggest you use the lowest possible resolution to record your video.

The OP's point appears to be being missed here.
They want to make a short video message using the Limit For MMS function (295KB max file size) AND Self Recording using the front facing camera simultaneously.
This to me appears one of the most obvious of uses for sending video via MMS yet the SGS2/ICS does not allow this.
you are correct sir.... cannot be done with stock or hand cent , go mms... sure wish you could... using the rear.. you have to hope that. your shot is framed right.. and spin the phone around twice while recording.. does not look good....
any other suggestions????
Tried JB+ ... Needs More Work
I tried JB+ (spent £1.49)
JB+ does not appear to offer the Limit For MMS function (295KB max file size) AND Self Recording using the front facing camera simultaneously.
Neither does JB+ appear to do Macro Focus unlike the Camera app on ICS
JB+ appears more user friendly/dumbed down perhaps but apart from the Panoramic View function, an amusing novelty, I think this style is a backwards step.
If they restored Macro Focus and enabled Front Facing MMS then I would think better of them.

Video MMS Mode?

My old Note 2 had a preset for MMS Video which allowed me to send video over mms with out sending a huge file. Does the Z1 or Z1S have anything similar?
I couldn't find any app or Xposed module that can do this. The closest thing are apps that shrink your video after the fact and they take a lot of extra work and time.
Thanks for any assistance.
