I'm trying to install the DocRambone series on my Samsung Galaxy S, but when I get to HOWTO#1 it says:
"2.Select the PDA/Modem/CSC/.PIT files in Odin. (.PIT and PDA are required. CSC and Modem are HIGHLY recommended. They may be necessary depending on the PDA! Try flashing all three BEFORE reporting bugs, if you only used one initially!)"
Now, the .PIT file I've already found(I chose the 512 since I understand that the 513 is for older versions and 803 is for Froyo). But I don't know where to find the other things, meaning PDA, CSC and Modem? Which ones should if pick(if there is more than one) and why?
If they are on my phone already, how do I mount them in Odin?
My firmware version is
PDA: I9000XWJM2
Phone: I9000XXJM1
CSC: I9000NEEJM1
Thanks alot

Anyone who can help me?
Which Version Froyo? It sounds like you like to flash Froyo..
ok
You must make a Clean Stock Froyo Install.. I think u choose XXJPK take the files at the Tut..! ;D And then you can flash the "Custom Rom" via update.zip
Think thats it is what u mean..
I'm not flashing Froyo, I'm flashing for DocRomboe which is 2.1 (I think?) .. but like I said, the guide sais what I said above.. I need to find PDA, CSC and modem files, because (accordimg to the guide) Odin needs those files.. I'm following the big faq guide, so if anyone could tell me what to do, I'd appreciate it

Oh come on, I really wanna do this soon !!
Read the Docrombone thread again and see what rom it is for. Its a mod. Now go find the rom it wants, something like say JM5 or JM8? do a search and you'll see people link it. Or goto http://www.samfirmware.com/ and make a account to view the firmwares there. I have no idea what rom that mod wants since you are the one wanting to install it
If you are looking for MODEM and CSC files specifically for 2.1, you can pull the ones from Richthofen's post here
-OR-
If you want to maintain your JM1 MODEM/CSC files, like the above poster suggested, visit Samfirmware
So far have only found instructions at to flash a 'package' of firmwares and of course dropping in a new kernel using odin but as yet havn't found out if a modem firmware can be flashed without changing the pda.
Is this possible and if so then maybe for, say closely related roms such as the various permutations of the original froyo?
If its possible then still the pda rom that remains act as if nothing is amiss the same as flashing a kernel?
And finally!
Currenly on jpy (voodoo stock)/jpy/jpy coming from unbranded froyo from my local area. Since changing I have a hunch the modem is not quite optimized for our networks and want to try the old jp5 modem with jpy pda.
Final note... Jpy seems exactly like jpo plus voodoo 5 to me except for the minor changes to ui except that battery life is TERRIBLE! When I use apps or data but the same on standbye... Hence I feel the jpy modem is not optimized.

I would like to do the same thing. Use a JP5 modem on a JPY rom (in my case Insanity Rom).
Where did you find the JP5 modem file? I tried a search on this forum and the best I could do was this but I can't find it on there.
I have flashed succefully a diferent version of modem on JPU earlier this month and worked well.I flashed JPU with pit and CSC file+repartition clicked, the i choose a JPA modem and flashed it seperatelly ,NO pit NO repartition. All went good.I guess its just a matter of versions, probably cant flash a modem of 2.1 versions, but a 2.2 would probably work.
Hello there guys. I have the following query. I have DDJP6 Froyo with DamianTGO kernel which includes ClockwordModRecovery inbuilt. Now i want to try XWJS3 Doc's Rom which i downloaded from Romkitchen.org . The issue is that the Doc's Rom downloaded with custom CSC and Modem(both India Specific) has an older CSC of DDJG4, which the stock Froyo CSC for India is DDJP5. Now if flashing Doc's Rom will bring the CSC back to JG4(which i think it will,, since it's the WIPE version), how do i update JUST the CSC back to JP5?? I do have the JP5 CSC file as a .tar file. Can i update just that using ODIN without re-partition and leaving Phone and Modem blank?? Or update it through CWM? But how do i make a tar file CWM zip compatible??
If the query, or anything similar has already been posted and answered, kindly give me the link for the same. Thanking you all in advance
Just flash the csc bit through ODIN and leave everything else empty.
Thank You Very Much

Hi I bought a galaxy s from e-bay locked on T-Mobile and have unlocked it. Presently it is on Éclair 2.1-update 1, when I tried to update its firmware via kies I got, this version of the device cannot be update.
Firmware version:-
PDA: I9000XXJF4
PHONE: I9000XXJF3
CSC: I9000TMUJE6
So I made some home work and now I know I have to flash a new firmware via odin but I have some questions cause the more I read the more I get confused.
Where can I get the latest stock firmware for flashing?
Do I need to flash PDA, PHONE, CSC and PIT (is it the PIT512 the right PIT for this modle?).
Do I need to change the boot loader?
Do I need to save anything other than phone numbers?
Am I missing anything else or am I good to go?
Many thanks for your help.
latest firmware : www.samfirmware.com - along with tutorials
some firmwares come in 3 files (pda, phone, csc) some come in 1 file (.tar)
Only use PIT with a firmware that has all 3 files. (512PIT is most common)
no need to change boot loader
you may want to back up your apps as THEY WILL be deleted.
other than that, you are good to go

i have never used kernel flasher, nor am i familiar with the captivate so i do not want to give you false information.
i recommend you flash a kernel thru odin, but firstly check in the kernel's thread to see what the instructions are.
some kernels require different flashing methods
I dont use it too, I always flash the JPU then Speedmod and I have access to CWM, then i flashing customs , btw on samfirmware you have tutorial how to flash rom with odin,
Thanks guys
Simple and straight question : Can I flash a stock JVR ROM as PDA in Odin and keep the original KG3 modem and CSC "files" in place ?
I know I could flash the entire JVR thing and then flash both modem and CSC afterwards, but why would I want to do that if I can just flash PDA ?
It's getting awfully hard and complicated for someone like me that's not used to flash ROMs 5 times a week to find the answer to such a trivial question without being overwhelmed with answers that go in every direction...
I have no need for root, nor for CWM ... just want to keep up to date with the rest of the world as far as PDA goes!
Thanks
I suggest just flashing the JVR PDA, KG3 Modem.bin and KG3 CSC. Before you do that, back up your APN with APN Backup. That will save you time rather than manually entering in any data. I don't see any gain not flashing both the Modem and CSC.
Edit: Grammar.
your question is one of those deceptively simple ones...
yes, you should be able to just flash the jvr pda
... but you know what in the spirit of murphy's law as applied to flashing, there is no reason not to also include the kg3 modem and csc at the same time when you flash -- you have to use odin anyways, and its only two more ticks and the firmware is available in distinct bits to allow you to do this
Right... point well taken!
Thanks

you're welcome
BTW the move to JVR is worth it, as the firmware is the best 2.3.4 available and a significant improvement over 2.3.3
the KG3 modem and csc both flash and play nice with the jvr rom, so you will have no problems
Now running JVR on KG3 modem and CSC... been running rock solid for a few hours
