Internal SD Disappears? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My internal SD card keeps disappearing, about once a day on my I9000M. I'm on stock Bell JH2 rooted. No lagfix, although I did use it for a while.
So my phone keeps working fine, I only notice this when I go into the gallery or try to play music stored on the internal SD.
Gallery - says no SD card detected
My Files - says "Your phone does not have a SD card inserted"
Astro - says "error writing internal memory" - but it opens and shows no files in SDCARD
It only takes a power down to get it back. And works fine until the next time.
So I bought this phone through Besy Buy in Canada and unlocked it and I use it on Telus.

Sounds like your SGS is starting to experience signs of a possible internal SD card failure which will require an exchange or service to fix. You say that you did use a lagfix at one time... Is that correct? Seems that the lagfixes speed up devices that already have a possible issue with this SD card problem.
Read around somemore and you will see MANY i9000M devices with this issue and most happen after installing a lagfix or an unofficial firmware.
Sorry to be the bearrer of bad news but I would look into a replacement (if you still qualify) or sending it in for repair.

I get something similar but I never applied any lag fix. In fact it only happens why I plug in my phone to charge via the computer. If I don't plug in for a few days, then I dont get the sd unavailable issue.

Actually now that you said that I remember lately when I have my phone plugged into the wall charging, when I pick it up it says connected to kies.

So then I would have to say that there is a different defect with both of your devices that is causing this. There is no other reason that when your phone is plugged into the wall on "power" only that your phone should think its connected to kies.
LOL... Plug in your phone to the wall... Wait for it to say its connected to kies and flick the lights on and off lots and see if it will strt downloading froyo!!! Just Joking here but in all seriousness I would look into fixing or replacing the device...

SanDisk16GB Micro SDHC won't read on mac os or android phone. Help!?

This memory card has been used in my Nexus One Android running Froyo. I was using the phone last night (specifically FourSquare) and it froze up, I'm not sure if it was writing something to the micro sd but I removed the battery to restart the phone. When it restarted it said "checking memory card for errors", but after waiting for ten minutes nothing was recognized and I restarted it again, this time removing the sd card. Fast forward a few hours. I tried repeatedly different methods to get the phone to recognize it and finally gave up. I put an older memory card in the phone which worked just fine.
I have a usb micro sd reader and plugged it in to the mac. Usually iPhoto pops up but nothing happened. I ran disk utility to see if the memory card could be recognized and still nothing. I tried many free software programs but they all require the memory card to at least be recognized, which mine is not. Any Ideas? I've ran out of them. I just want a few pictures and a video but if thats not possible at least a way to reformat sd card for future use.
Cliffnotes: Card corrupted by android phone, no longer recognized by phone or mac os, tried several sd recovery programs to no avail, I just want the pics!
Sounds like it's not corrupted, it just died. Sorry dude. Time for a new card.
Had my 8 gig die the other night. Mine is recognized when I put it in my laptop but when ok try to copy any file, it can't access. It does see all of then though. I've been trying some recovery software but haven't had any luck so far.

Thanks. You're probably right. I guess this is where the iPhone has an advantage over us Android users. Permanent on board storage.

So if that storage goes out, you replace the whole phone. Sounds like quite the advantage...
Versus cheap expandable memory. Hmm.....
Ok I found a half satisfying solution. The sd card reader has a lock switch. When I click lock I am able to read everything, thus letting me copy it to my computer. I guess putting it in lock mode makes everything read only. The card is still dead, imo. No way to reformat it in this mode and removing the lock switch only reverts to my prior problem.

That means your card is dead. When a flash card dies, it cannot be written anymore, but it can still be read from because the data is still there, it's flash memory so its nonvolatile. By forcing it to read only mode, you should be able to recover your data, like you just did.
Awesome suggestion on setting to read only. It worked for me too. I'm happy to at least get the stuff off it, even if it's dead.

[Q] Proud owner of a working brick?

Had a perfectly working phone up until 8 hours ago. Driving home from the bar and my phone randomly reboots. Wouldn't turn on till I removed the battery and tried again. In a 30 minute drive this happened 3 times.
@ Home phone rebooted another 3 times before I just left it plugged into the charger, didn't touch it or try to change anything.
Everything went well through the morning, till I decided to perform a nandroid backup, and wipe my SD card. Rebooted to recovery and now my phone couldn't detect an installed SD.
Powered down the phone. Inserted a different card thinking the previous one was corrupt or something. Still not detecting it.
Currently, phone does not detect any SD cards, Home button does not work, unable to connect to a wireless network (airplane mode will not turn off), no market app installed, lockscreen is not showing (just goes straight to home screen).
I was running SuperE 1.0.3 before, and settings still shows the same.
Comments? Suggestions? Criticism?
Awesome. 65 views and nothing. Android is a great OS for a phone, but their support group sucks.
At least apple has the courtesy to say "hey, you're screwed unless you wanna pay $400 for a new phone."
Hey your screwed unless you wanna pay 400 for a new phone did you try to put your sd card into the computer and format to fat 32 yet? does your computer see your sd card for starters?

Does this look like GOOGLE or HTC to you?
Sorry no. Nobody's paying anyone here to help you fix your failures.
If you have a warranty issue, please contact HTC first (they are the ones responsible for your phone), GOOGLE second (though I doubt this is an OS issue -- more likely a hardware or user issue).
If you want community help, ASK NICELY. Nobody's going to go out of their way to help out a DOUCHEBAG with an overinflated sense of entitlement.
Um you just pissed off the guy that knows probably how to fix your phone more than anybody!!!! Not good!!!!

Computer can read my sd card, no problem. It won't, however, recognize my G1 when its plugged in via usb. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling the correct drivers with no effect.
I know its not the usb ports, I used them to format the sd cards with an adapter, and its not my usb cable, had a friend test them with his G1.
After going in through settings and doing a Factory Reset, I've been able to connect to my network, but that's the only improvement.
On the plus side, my phone has never run faster.

Thanks for judging me as a person based on a thread. You seem like a douchebag as well, and pretty full of yourself. We should be buds.

[Q] Does anyone know why my SD card disappears? (SD not detected)

I got a brand new SGS. It was one of the new models that got replaced from the disfunctional 3 button combo phone that was in canada (i9000m)
The GPS and stuff works perfectly too. So I'm happy.
But I have to reboot my phone like 5-10 times a day because the SD card goes missing (can't use camera etc. says not enough memory)
Anyone know the fix to this ? Why does it disappear ?
I haven't rooted or done anything to it -- it's vanilla right out the box.
Your issue is not new to me. I also had this problem, but the only thing I could do was to pull my sd off and reinserting it, regardless of the uncountable reboots. I got my phone in July and since then it happened about two or three times, but from five to ten times *a day* is way too much.
Try with another sd card (it may be defective). If it's still bugging you, I'm afraid the best option would be to give it back to the shop to send it for warranty repair (or immediately getting a new one, depending on the shop).
Please, let me know how it ends.

First, this thread should not be in the development subforum.
Second, to answer your question, once you connected your phone to the computer, you will not be able to access both your internal and external sd card. My advice is that you go download and rtfm.
Go to the Q&A section, and you will be able to learn more.

[Q] Internal SD card disappearing when KIES is used?

Anyone else having an issue with the internal SD card on their SGS dropping off and not showing up after using KIES, in fact it might be every time I plug the phone into my computer and select a connection option.
I've been using the JH2 Eclair version for my Bell I9000M since it came out. a couple weeks ago I had an issue with the OCLF crapping out when I dropped my phone while it was running an app and it popped the battery. It messed a bunch of stuff up, I lost some apps, had a number of them that refused to re-install and a fair number of FC's on random Apps that were stable prior. I also experienced a number of FC's on the gmail app in relation to syncing.
I then did a Factory Reset and then finally a full re-install of JH2 and all those issues went away. Now the only problem is the fact that the SD disappears from inside the OS, after plugging it into the PC, If I connect it Via KIES it will work once, then the phone begins to flash the Kies app in and out on the screen on my second attempt and the SD card vanishes.
I have found that if I do a 3 button boot and go to the update screen and run the option that deletes the Cache partition and reboot the phone it fixes both the KIES issue and the missing SD issue until I plug the phone into my computer again.
I'd be interested in hearing any ideas people might have as to why this is happening and what if any options I might have to permanently fix the issue.
O.
I have the same problem. I'm using JH2 as well and after unplugging from my PC my internal SD and external SD are unmounted. A reboot remounts them. I rarely use kies so it's just kind of an annoyance

[Q] Captivate Won't Charge But Will Recognize PC Connection

Edit: It looks like this is a hardware issue and I'll likely try to get it replaced via insurance since I cannot revert to stock using Odin. It is impossible to revert without using Odin right? Thanks to all who read!
To start, I just want to state that I've searched and searched for answers/information on this (not just on XDA forums either) and I haven't found a similar issue - my sincere apologies if I missed it.
Quick "this post is way too long to read" Summary:
1. Phone will not charge
2. Phone will recognize PC connection via USB but with no functionality
3. PC will not recognize phone
4. All details on what I've done so far below
Friday 3/4/11 - I used a USB car charger (link below) to charge my Captivate with a USB cable known to be working (had worked on my Captivate before, works on my brother's Captivate). If you're asking why I used that charger... well I got it for free with my E-71. I'll never use it again. Anyway later that night I tried to charge my phone on my official AT&T A/C charger but nothing happened - the phone acted like no USB was inserted.
newegg[dot]com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882923001
Sorry for the bootleg link, this certainly isn't spam but I'm not allowed to post links yet.
Since that date, my Captivate won't charge via AC power cord. My PC won't recognize it either, but here's the weird part - my phone recognizes when it's connected to the PC via USB. For example, I can connect the phone to the PC and it will state "USB connected" on the Android pull-down (top) menu. Since I have mass storage chosen as the default, it will give me the option to send or receive files from the PC from the same menu. However, if I attempt to actually take that option, the pop-up menu which allows you to mount your memory cards does not come up. In addition, if I have the phone in USB debugging mode and I connect to my PC, the phone recognizes that as well. The PC does not recognize the phone in any capacity, at any time. No matter what I've done so far it will not charge via A/C.
Background: I've had my phone for a little over 6 months now, I've been running Cognition 2.1.6 since about 3 weeks after I got it - before this problem I haven't done any modifications whatsoever since the first load of Cognition. My PC is Windows 7 Ultimate 64. To rule out a bunch of other things, I've tried to use multiple USB cords that are known to work with a different Captivate and my Captivate prior to this problem (3 to be exact), I've uninstalled and reinstalled all Samsung's drivers on Windows, and I actually reinstalled Cognition using the three button recovery mode. To further rule out external problems, I just put Serendipity on my brother's Captivate using the same USB cord and PC that I'm attempting to use with my phone. He had been using the exact same version of Cognition I was.
I of course tried to revert the phone to stock using ODIN in order to fix the problem. I attempted to use the two button method (hold volume keys and insert data cable from PC with Odin running) but of course since the USB is not working properly that didn't work. It's worth noting that the described method worked perfectly for my brother's Captivate to revert to stock in preparation for installing Serendipity. I attempted to manually unmount and remount my memory cards several times, change USB modes between mass storage, Kies, modem, etc - nothing seems to work. The phone seems to be completely normal except for this USB issue. One last thing that's strange is if the phone is powered off and I have the USB A/C charger plugged into it, I cannot turn it on. When I hold the power button a relatively small spinning circle comes up after a second or two near the top of the screen. It disappears when I release power. If I remove the USB cable and hit power again it powers up completely normally.
Because of all of the above, I'm 99% certain that the issue is with my phone (not from any other external source). My only uncertainty is whether this is a USB hardware issue or a software issue where the phone is trapped in some sort of limbo due to being in a quasi-data mode which is causing it not to charge via A/C power and causing the PC not to recognize it. Has anyone had an issue remotely like this? I've come to terms with the sinking feeling that this is a hardware issue and that the only option I'm going to have is for my phone to be accidentally run over by a car (in order to pay my $125 and get a "new" phone under AT&T insurance). If anyone has any suggestions I'll be more than happy to try, maybe we can get this thing fixed!
If you made it this far I'll just say thanks for reading my wall of text and thanks in advance for any advice you have.
Were you able to get this issue resolved? It just started happening to my Captivate earlier today, and I was hoping that a solution had been found.
I haven't been able to get it resolved, I actually just sort of gave up on it and went back to my old phone for now. I have insurance so I'm not totally screwed, but it's not that cool obviously.
Were you able to get anything resolved on your end? If so I'd love to hear how. The one good solution would be a package to restore to stock that you could run through update.zip on a memory card, that isn't available yet is it?
i have this issue as well. I flashed Cognition 4.4 and it ran just fine for a couple weeks and then it began not even recognizing the micro plugged into any power source or the samsung dock! debugging on or off, battery saver apps removed, all that. multiple reboots. nothing. it takes a spell of, if i'm lucky, recognizing it after i eff with it for a few minutes and flukes a decent charge but at night, it usually has a loop cycle charging effect. I can hear the "boop beep" charger plugged in sound over and over throughout the night.
i use the phone in my cars and everywhere with the same problem.
no resolution! HELP!!!
I came across the same problem with USB on ARMANI I9010 after installing Cognition5. The most unpleasant is that i have bought it abroad and there is no possibility to return it
Does any body found the solution?
