Can my sim card be altered using ODIN ? - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

ok ok I know the ODIN thread says to remove sim , I did so many mods yesterday I guess (not even sure it did ) got forgotten inside on one occasion, I tought all was good tho , until I tried to send sms (from my everyday phone ) , it didint work can receive them and all the rest works without a problem ..
I did the one click jf6 then flash back jg8 modem then reverted back to my rogers modem ..
long story short can I fix what /I messed up ?
googled but no luck ..
sim is pretty cheap but I like to break my head a bit ./.

Have you tried a simple master reset yet? Usual does the trick.

Do u have the message centre number set correctly?

I made a thread for the fix and at&t sims are free. No questions asked, they will give you a new one.

Your SIM should have nothing to do with it. ODIN won't do anything to your SIM AFAIK. Removing the SIM while flashing has something to do with writing the modem files properly. Again AFAIK. If you can't send SMS but can receive them it is likely your SMSC address is wrong or empty. Look under Messaging -> Settings. Get the correct setting from anyone else who is on the same network as you.

no connection with my sgs, please help! URGENT

Hi there, i have a really annoying and strange problem with my Galaxy s.
the phone can not establish connection with my simcard, wich means i cant call, text, or receive and calls or text messages. the simcard works good in my old htc hero and my xperia x10, and other simcards work fine in my galaxy too..
the phone seems to discover the card because it asks me for the pin code and it shows it has connection in the status bar.. but it never shows the gprs/3g/h icon anymore.. though i can connect to the internet with my phone.. and sometimes in the status bar it shows a little r (wich means roamin i guess) but i have roaming switched off in the settings.. wtf is happening ?
when i was on darkys 8.0 and 8.1 i had no problems, but when i upgraded to 9.0 the hell came loose :/ right now i am on the stock xwjs3 samsung firmware with no root or any other customizations.. everything is stock. what do you think is the problem? i had a thread started in a swedish android forum, and nobody could help me, so you guys are my last hope.. what the hell is wrong here ?
edit: i forgot telling that i can browse the web with my phone with no problems, but it doesnt show me any 3g/h/gprs icons when data active..
Try to go tommorow to your TELE2 provider store in Sweden, and ask for a new SIM card.
If that doesn't help, go back to darky's v8.0.
For example,
i'm also on TELE2 in Croatia, i have done the upgrade on darky's v9.0 no-wipe with lagfix turned on.
All of my APN settings stayed same, i can connect to the internet, really no issues.
Can u try the no-wipe version?
i have already aksed for a new sim card, but i dont think that would help.. because my sim card does work.. with every other phone i tryed, but not with my own
when i flashed darkys i did everything exactly like it said in description, 8.0 wipe > 8.1 nowipe > 9.0 nowipe
my apn settings are also left there in the settings, and when i check the info about the phone it says connected to sweden 3g (wich is tele2 3g in sweden) and it discovers pretty good signal, the problem is that i cant sms or call, or receive any of those either.. it says connected but not active.
Well it looks like, nothing is wrong with your SGS...in the hardware meaning.
Your 3G/H icons will only be displayed when you have internet traffic active.
And check your SMS settings and call barring options.
If that doesn't work, you can go back to v8.1
but the phone doesnt show the 3g/gprs/h icon even when i have data traffic active..
that is the only think working btw.. i can surf the web with my phone but it doesnt show the connection icons.. and the call barring options are all ok.
Well...you can always go back to v8.0
have tryed.. no luck
LOL...then put back in the stock firmware, then go to your providers store, and ask for new SGS
right now i am on stock firmware actually.. and if i cant find any other solution i will probably use the warranty..
good luck )

Nothing new you put on Darkys rom and its buggered up your phone join the big crowd .
Have you tried asking Darky .
Your only solution is a complete wipe of internal sd card system and data .
Install a stock Eclair and see if it works .
Otherwise darky bricks are priced at 150 dollars .

Ok i will try this, but why eclair? any reason for that ?
Thats what the phone was built with so less complications when something is wrong i find .Upgrade after if phone works OK or even take the chance to official upgrade via Kies Registry Patcher and save your official rom .

Samsung I9000 doesnt recognize sim card

Hi everybody.
I got this weird problem with my cellphone. I have an international I9000. after factory reset my phone doesnt recognize sim anymore. I tried it with other sims too but my efforts were not successful. I tried flashing with other roms but again nothing happened. what am I supposed to do now? have you ever had the same problem?
Manual setting of network details or a new sim .
jje
Hi I had the same problem with my I9000 might be a different cause but its worth a try. Iv had it in tje past with other phones so I apolagise if I start abit basic but I dont know how tech savy you are not to nention we all sometimes overlook the basics.
first the basics. if you havnt already done any of there.
clean your sim, wipe the contacts clean then use a dry cloth or tissue and ensire it is dry. while the sim is out take a look at the sim slot check the pins are in the correct position so they are streght and not too far inside the housins to contact the sim properly.
if all is clean and good and it still dosnt work i would reccomend testing your sim in anothere phone even if locked most phones will at least say 'sim rejected' , 'wrong sim' or something along the lines also if possible test another sim in your I9000.
Now the gritty bit if your sim workes it is most likely 1 of 2 things soft wear or hardwear which is why I asked to check the pins above if it is hardwear and the pins look ok I cant help but bellow it a solution to softwear caused problems. in my case the cause was a corrupt modem file it can also be caused by a mismatch between the modem, csc and PDA files you can check your file versions *#1234# i cant tell you which pda goes with which modem but im sure it can bd found.
solutions to softwear issues. the easy way is to use kies if you rom is can be updated or if you can trick kies into updating. the other more risky way is to use ODIN I down loaded a stock XXJPO with seperat csc modem and pit then used kies to update to XXJPY but it wotked again as soon as ODIN flashed the XXJPO.
In short use ODIN to reflash a rom ensure you use the full 3/4 file method there are only 2 differand pit files but use correct MODEM, CSC and PDA i found myne in the genral section

DID YOU TRY manual network settings thats always the first step .
Failing that kill it go back to basics .
Block 2 Odin method to Eclair and test before upgrading .

Problem with simlock (I9000, Virgin UK)

I bought SGS from 2nd hand for my girlfriend. Seller said that phone is locked for Virgin (UK). I successfully removed simlock from my SGS (O2) before so i thougt that shouldn't be a problem for me now. But it is.
I checked with *#7465625# that simlock and all other locks are OFF (before i used phone with SIM). When I put any other SIMs than Virgin I get "Emergency calls only" message. Virgin SIM cards work perfect.
I tried remove lock (but there is no lock ???) with all methods from this forum and still have no reception with non Virgin SIM. I checkd 2.1, 2.2.1, and 2.3.4 stock roms and is same.
How I can resolve my problem?
Its possible if u have been using Odin that you have changed the CSC file, which is the modem, which receives signal. Does Virgin receive a signal ?
Yes, Virgin recive signal. Problem was before I flash any rom by odin.
I can see signal bars when non virgin but can't make call. Only emergency.
Maybe I can use some files from my unlocked and working mobile?
Ok, go here http://www.samfirmware.com/apps/profile/76570387/
You will need to register free, and you will loose root but thats easy sorted, download the latest 2.2 for the i9000 and flash it with Odin. Let me know if it helps, and be carefull with Odin, read all instructions carefully. Though i think the 2.2 is just one file, there for it goes into PDA in Odin.
You may also be sim-locked again, im unsure and im no expert at this. Or theres another site that helped me out. http://www.theandroidsoul.com/xxjvp-android-2-3-4-firmware-galaxy-s-install-and-download/

I try to use few firmwares but it not change anything. I think that might be problem with nv_data.bin file. In my opinion someone try remove lock, failed, forgot to backup file and sold mobile to 2nd hand shop.
I have another full working sgs. Maybe I can copy some files and/or edit in hex editor?
Edit
Maybe someone can share me his nv_data.bin from locked or unlocked Virgin mobile please?
Sorry about link, but thats the site for the official firmwares from Samsung. I cant help you with copying files man, I know nothing about it.

Can´t use simcard: `emergency only`

Hello,
I have a Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 for 3 years now. I flashed different roms and did root my phone in all these years. But... now i received a new sim card which works well in other phones but NOT in my ace. So that must be a problem with my ace.. I just flashed back to the stock rom (XEN - Netherlands S5830XENKS1) via ODIN but the problem is still there, i can't use my sim-card: "Emergency only".
I already wiped data and cleared cache, hard reset... nothing works. What could i try to have my phone back working with sim card so i can call, sms and use my dataplan. My phone have no simlock i checked and the IMEI is also the right. The one shown by #06# is the same as printed behind my battery. I also received a new sim card from my provider, but this one also has the same problem.
I hope you guys can help me out! :good::good::good:
UPDATE 1: I tried differend sim cards in the phone. I always used to have T-Mobile as provider. All other simcards are not working, theyre showing up for a few seconds and after that it says: Emergency calls only. When i put in a T-Mobile sim card the provider keeps displayed, so it looks like my phone only works with a t-mobile card. But it's not sim locked, because i also used differend sim cards before..
UPDATE 2: Now my simyo simcard also connects and i can sms, call and internet. But after a few seconds/minutes again the message: Emergency calls only
WHAT COULD THIS PROBLEM BE??!!??! Strange.............. I really hope someone can help me out this

I think your device has a problem to make contact with sims cards, so your device have a trouble accessing read and use sim cards... You can send your device to the support service, to check or try to fix it...Have your warranty still in effect?

Hello, thanks for your reply! No, my warranty is not active anymore. My phone is 3 years old. Today i went to another city and could call and sms the whole day. No internet. When i came home, i received again the message: emergency only. How strange.. I also could'nt find a good rom or firmware to flash back my phone to the full original software and firmware... Can someone help me on that? I need the newest firmware for the samsung galaxy ace s5830, netherlands version. Or maybe a custom rom which is the most used and stable version. I would like to exclude software reasons, so it might be a hardware problem. But i think it's a software fault cause of the different roms i tried on the phone.

Always when you'll change your custom rom do the 3 wipes to leave your device as clean as possible

Again flashed the original firmware to my Ace. Wiped data and cleared cache. Everything works..... Except... the simcard. Can't call, can't sms and can't make an internet connection. So, still the same problem. The sim works well in another phone, and another simcard in the Ace gives also "Emergency call only". So it HAS to be something with my phone. Someone any idea's i can try / check now i'm very sure it's a phone problem with original new flashed firmware? I hope it's not an hardware defect......... how can i check?
UPDATE: The only simcard which works well is a T-Mobile prepaid simcard. All other simcards sometimes shows up, but most of the time not. The more strange fact is today: I went to another city and was able to call and sms the whole day. But no internet. When i came home, i received again the message: emergency only. This is so strange and makes me very sad. The phone is simlockfree, WHAT COULD IT BE So strange............
Tomorrow i had internet connection, could call and sms. My provider was shown on the screen and nothing wrong. But unfortunately just for a few minutes... No stable connection.
Someone any idea? :crying:
I too faced this problem once.....What I did is that I just formatted the system , wiped data , cache , sd ext and dalvik cache and then restored a backup of my earlier ROM in which the Sim was working ! And it was fixed....

Thanks for your reply! I did your trick but unfortunately... It did'nt help. Very interesting thing is, while i'm traveling around there is no problem, but as soon as i stop driving and walk around, the problems are back. Someone any idea on this strange problem? :crying:
cant access sim
until now this is problem...
why they cant fix this important setting
better to back to stock rom.
is does all are working
yeah CM's are good but still
many bugs and error
like this one.
not STK, sim contact save
and show in contact app
i hope they fix this one asap
You dont have any choice other than visiting the service centre. Yes they may charge you a good amount but seems none of the methods are working.
Also try contacting your service provider maybe thay know the exact reason.
