Check the topics; there was a link referring to release dates and Nov. 11th is when the USA release is. We can guesstimate that it would be around that time or past.

My friend works at Bell. So, here's insider's info: the update will start to roll out on Monday the 15th. It will start for ip addresses in Ontario. On 17th - BC. On 20th - the rest of Canada. On 29th - foreign ip addresses with i9000m...
Good luck with the update!
So the update will be available through Kies? Thanks for the info...hope its true!
Thanks so here is to hoping for next week.
Thanks for the quick reply. I check for the update every day. Can't wait to get it.

Whats with the huge gaps? I doubt there are that many Vibrants in Canada that it needs to be staggered like that.. This does not sound very practical.

I worked as a service provider for Bell Canada for many years. This is their mentality, even though they are such a small drop in the bucket compared to the big wireless companies like Verizon or TMO.
I'm actually quite disappointed that Bell even has a say in the matter... Samsung, as crappy as their service is, should be the drivers. This means we can almost forget about any future 2.3 upgrades after the SGS drops off Bell's sales radar.

As I understand it from reading around there are about 500,000 sgs i9000m devices in Canada however... I tottaly agree that Bell should NOT have any say in the firmware upgrades and I hope Gingerbread will officially make it to us here in Canada but my hopes arent too high.
I have never flashed an unofficial firmware before but in this regard all I can say is THANK GOD for xda and the talented developers who will no doubt have many flavors of gingerbread for us canucks to munch on when its done baking especially since the galaxy tab WILL be getting it and the 2 devices are so similar.

I have very little hope we will see an official 2.3 update from Bell. As you said the phone will be old news and newer and better phones will be pushed. Its the blight of Android unfortunately.. This seriously has me considering one of the 'other' platforms for my next phone.
You're worried about getting 2.3 from Bell? I'd be shocked if anyone ever sees 2.3 from Samsung!

You're hoping on 2.3?? lets hope 2.2 actually comes onto our Kies. we've been told Froyo was gonna be here since day 1 within a couple weeks (at least thats what i was told by bell tech)
I cant wait to see what 2.2 brings, then I'll worry about 2.3 down the road
2.3 would be nice but I don't see it coming to the i9000m. Since Bell seems to have control over the updates, upgrade support will drop around the same time as Bell drops this phone for another.
Hey, so I am with sasktel, and I am wondering if I will be able to receive the update? My phone is also i9000m. Can I be expecting an update or will I most likely have to flash from bell?

No, I have many sources reporting many things, and some things I can talk about (mostly what's out there) and somethings I can't (mostly not what's out there).
I wrote the PPC-6600 "Upgrade" article to force Sprint to disclose on-the-record that an upgrade will be offered for existing owners. It was a clear, yet at the same time, carefully worded piece of consumer advocacy, and it served its purpose. When everything's disclosed I think it will be clear why. Regardless of what the 6700 does turn out to be, 6600 owners would have been otherwise left feeling forced to upgrade.
What I have said all along as to what the 6700 is, is that it is a device that would not be motivating for other 6600 owners to upgrade to for the most part with the exception of it is EV-DO enabled.

Telus is starting it's evdo network in the first quater of 2006. Hopefully we should get an update offered to us as well.
I don't think telus' version of the ppc6600 has evdo enabled out of the box. <- can someone check on this??
I havn't done any upgrades yet.. as there havn't been any offered to date.
The bluetooth stack on this unit is fairly stable and the radio and ext rom are both one of the newest versions available. I've only found rom updates for GSM units and others that are incompatible with our CDMA version of the ppc6600.
I'm not sure how many other countries are using this exact model of ppc6600. I know new zeland telecom, sprint & verison, telus and bell are using the same. That should indicate that if sprint releases an update, then so will the others. Sprints update renames their model of ppc6600 to ppc6700...
When that time comes, paying ANOTHER ~600 bucks would be outrageous. The phone just came out here and I paid the 350 w/ 3 yrs contract. I would pay for an update of course but it would have to be reasonable... 600+ is not. If sprint DOES release an update, it will make its way to xda. By that time, hopefully, the forum here should recognize our ppc6600 and make a separate section for us where we can test and update our models f.o.c.
I'm hopeing that if and when there is an update, wm2005 is included but I dont think it will be. It will happen. Eventually someone will sort it all out, and then we can live in wm2005 land happily ever after.
Well I bit the bullet and only signed a one year contract with Telus, that's as much as I can stomach with them. As far as EVDO goes I am not so sure. Telus is on strike so not much will happen and they are projecting this might go until 2006. What I would really like to see is to have them finalize the Number Portability business and then I could take my number and go GSM. I think that is the best option we have right now for getting WM5 on a device in Canada aside from I-mate and Rogeres.

Yep, CDMA RIP (include the USA as well)! Such a waste of "space"
Yeah, with LTE (4G), the whole world should be following a unified standard hopefully on not more than two frequencies.
Oh, I hope they use more than two frequencies otherwise there will be too much interference
Very interested in the Motorola Droid.

Can you get real time push hotmail?
Is there a wifi router app?
Is there a logmein app?
Is there an orb app (or able to stream from orb site)?
Thanks in advance...

I doubt you'll have an interference problem, being that the rest of the world has the same standard it's only the states now that don't use one standard (we have to always be different). I'm on the bandwagon with CDMA being phased out, even if it is better tech (I don't agree with that statement I'm just saying....) with the rest of the world on GSM it's hard to come out with a good phone that will support either or both.

I have no idea at all sorry.
Try googleing for Android forums. I'm sure they are out there.
I too am slightly concerned about that. We'll need to get to work on rooting the thing as soon as possible. Has anyone started digging into the thing who has a review unit?
We certainly need to find a central location to collaborate.
So much for everyone recieving the full froyo update!
as usuall vodafone balls everything up for all us users. It makes no sense unless they are removing features as the explanation around emergency calling doesnt fit, in that case users using a nexus one roaming on vodafone wouldnt be able to emergency call.
Nexus One customers that bought the phone from Vodafone will be getting Froyo, albeit a little delayed. We have to make a few changes to Froyo to optimize it for the Vodafone network (small stuff around Emergency calling, etc.), so it will take at least another couple of weeks (changes + testing).
Apologize for the extra delay, but please understand that this is a large scale deployment with lots of intricacies and we have to be prudent. I can assure you that we are striving hard to get Froyo out to all Nexus One customers ASAP.
Thanks for your continued support!

What if I bought my N1 directly from Google
I wish they would be more verbose about the actual issue.. surely anyone who has bought their phone direct from Google should be having certain issues with Froyo in Europe then?
So is that all EPF21B handsets? I didn't get mine from Vodafone, I bought it from Phones 4 U and put it on a voda iPhone tarriff. AFAIK I could've put it on any network.

all EPF21B handsets are assigned to vodafone, some phone shops might sell you it as another network, but they were meant to be vodafone only.
So yes unfortunatly all EPF21B phones have to wait for whatever crap google are doing to it, and given the amount of time they are saying it is gonna take i doubt it will be just minor changes like they say.

Definitely couldn't have put it on any network. Phone are supplied from the networks not phone shops.
Think they need to 'optimize' out the tethering ability?

So all this talk of all the updates for the N1 coming direct from Google with no interruptions from the networks was all pie in the sky?

Being an unlocked phone you can use any networks sim in it but it would still have vodafone customized firmware. Doesn't make it O2s phone by using O2 sim in it.
You said it couldn't be used on any network, I was saying this is incorrect. Am not saying sticking in a sim from another operator magically changes the firmware.

Have you tried flashing the new FroYo at all or are you worried about voiding warranty?
I thought there was a version which would update all firmware versions?
I wanted to stick it on one of the guys at works' phones but he didn't want to. He's on a VF contract with the phone coming from VF.
I bought mine sim free from Google and stuck my contract sim in and rooted within a month. Never looked back to be honest.
You should consider it and if something goes wrong, just go straight to HTC or claim on your own insurance (home or phone specific).
I wouldn't hang around waiting for VF to sort it out, they'll probably bastardise the firmware anyway and lock out stuff.

Surely any worth while improvements would be in Froyo to benefit everyone, I can't see Vodafone running something that is unique to their network otherwise every single phone they release would need specific software to them.
Also isn't there other networks in Europe supplying the N1 that isn't Vodafone but use the same build? I do fear this is more about removal of tethering, as there is people on here running Froyo just fine on Vodafone's network.
Maybe there's hope for tether after all
Hey guys, I have an AT&T nexus1 now running frf85b on Vodafone in East Africa. Tether doesn't work already because of a DNS problem. I am pretty sure it's not a phone or computer problem, but some discrepancy between Voda and Froyo. Perhaps Voda is getting that worked out in their network before releasing frf85b. Or a different froyo build is on it's way, but either way, this seems like there may be hope for tether. If they didn't want you to have tether they could give it to you broke now.
Thats bull****...
Not everyone in europe uses Vodafone. I bought it from a retailer.
Since VF is the only provider with the n1 they also got it from VF.
Most people arent even using VF as their provider. Why should we need VF-specific ROM versions?
Vodafone forums are reporting another 2-3 weeks, which is why I unlocked the bootloader & am now running FRF85B.
Ha! up yours Vodamoan, I'm using an O2 sim anyways! LOL!
http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/blog/2010/jun/29/android-froyo-google-update
there you go.
This update is not going to include any unique features for vodafone, neither is it going to include any improvements over the froyo which is already released. think about it why would google give a better version to voda rather than its own customers. neither is this update because of emergency calling like google claims, as to pass fcc rules the phone must be capable of creating emergency calls anywhere where there is reception, wether that be a us phone in the uk or vice versa it makes no difference.
this could be google making some changes to optomize it for vodafones network, but then the question is why dont other networks need optomized versions?
voda has made it clear in many sources it isnt happy about tethering on android or other phones as they fear it will cripple their network like att in america. so is it just coincidence that they have asked google to make changes? highly unlikely, more likely is google is either removing or limiting tethering on the vodafone version.
Quite how this will stop people tethering when they can just switch firmwares is beyond me.
Just a shame vodafone and to some way google (by agreeing to change it for vodafone) are going completely against the openness of android. Infact google themselves stated a few weeks back that they werent happy about the fragmentation of android, yet they themselves are fragmenting it for the benefit of a network.
The dual-core Optimus 2X may not have hit the shelves yet, but LG has alledgedly began working on its sequel.
According to reports, the Korean manufacturer is working on the “LG P999″, a 3G-enabled Android smartphone. Although unconfirmed, its name suggests a bump up from the Optimus 2X, otherwise known as the P990.
From its leaked documentation, the handset has been confirmed as packing Bluetooth, 3G and WiFi connectivity, with 4G speeds available in the States. Sources also claim it will land with Android 2.2 with an imminent upgrade to Gingerbread, and from a benchmark scores list, it’s likely to feature a dual-core processor.
No word on when we’ll be seeign the LG P999, although it’s rumoured to to landing within the next few months. Don’t go getting too excited, as some sources are claiming the handset will be a regional variant of the LG Optimus 2X. Only time will tell…

I'm a bit sad that USA carriers are abusing the term 4G. 4G is LTE Advanced (and WiMAX?). Not LTE and especially not HSPA is 4G.
Can't post links yet, but just google "ITU World Radiocommunication Seminar highlights future communication technologies".
So what technology are you talking about for the US market? WiMAX?
That depends on what carrier is going to offer it. There are some rumors it might be t-mobile so its going to be HSPA+.
ITU also said that HSPA+ can be called 4G.

Hey,
So I'm on H3G in the UK and installed a custom ROM a few months back. When H3G rolled out 4G in London and Manchester (I'm in manc) I wasn't getting LTE even in the town centre.
Now on the H3G website it says that they will roll out a software update to switch the phone "on" for 4G, I'm guessing I don't have that as I'm running a custom ROM. Is there any way to get this update, or update any part of the phone such as the radio so it will receive 4G on H3G in the UK?
HTC One
H3G UK
ReVolt ROM 4.2.2
3.4.10 ReVolt Kernal
Baseband: 4A.17.3250.14_10.39.1150.04L
You could try dialling *#*#4636#*#* trick and selecting GSM/WCDMA/LTE Auto
It was already on GSM/LTE auto, and I'm guessing that the ROM would be set to this?
It also just seems to switch back to GSM/LTE auto even is I change it to the one with CDMA.
Either way I don't think its going to allow me to connect like that :/

That's what I was hoping for out of this topic, they started pushing 4G to London, Manchester, B'ham and Reading in mid December, so its in the wilds, but there is nothing online that I can find relating to it.
Is there any way to "capture" an OTA update as it comes in?
And has anyone reading this got the update already?
I guess being in UK, and on H3G, and the limited roll out really narrows the number of members here who might have it :/
Edit: I have just read that the December roll out was only to 3000 select customers (they REALLY like the number 3), basically a beta (for people who dont just hang up on the marketing team), and the major roll out happens in Feb. Perhaps I was being a bit eager :'(

Haha, it is a slow rollout, but my speeds on DC-HSDPA are already faster than my home internet (which itself is a bit ****, as I'm in flats) at around 5Mbps. I have been on all the networks and in my experience it blows all of the rest out of the water, when 4G finally gets here, for free, completely unlimited and (on The One Plan) including tethering I cant see there being any other choice for a heavy internet user.
LTE got switched on for me today, no updates of any kind needed.
So for those out there on H3G running custom ROMs, its just a waiting game, as soon as H3G flip the switch in your area it will start working. Speedy too
