[Q] sync contacts with outlook 2007 problem - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Been using the Galaxy S as a second multi-media device while waiting for the official 2.2 to be released by O2 UK (don't want to risk any unofficial firmware update due to the 3 button combo, not being available on this device).
The Galaxy can see contacts on the Sim card, but I want to sync it with my contacts in Outlook 2007. When I connect the phone to Kies (latest version), Kies shows my contacts and when I ask it to sync with outlook, the progress bar appears and successfully completes, but when I disconnect the phone, the outlook contacts have not been transfered to the phone.
I don't want to use Google contacts but simply transfer contacts (name, address, email) to the Galaxy S from Outlook 2007.
What should I do ?

Maybe its not displayed because its not set up to? goto contacts and click on options/more/display options and play around with it. I think you want to look at PHONE setting but I don't know as I don't use kies and everything for me is set to GMAIL/GOOGLE only as i've had bad experiences with leaving numbers in phones and sim cards (if you loose the phone you loose both)

Beautiful...That done it (display options). Thanks

Import and/or Sync Contacts without Outlook - Ideas?

Greetings,
I just bought my Tilt this morning and had two questions about contacts ...
1) I do not run Outlook, is there some way for me to get sync contacts on and off the phone without it? I went to install activesynch and it basically told me to unplug it that second, and install outlook, or never be able to synch contacts.
2) Ideally I would like to get my e815 contacts onto the Tilt, but I do have them in ASCII if need be. Is there any way to import them?
Thanks!
If you use Mozilla or Thunderbird, you could try Finchsync. You could import the ASCII file into Thunderbird and then set up to sync.
http://www.finchsync.com/
PIM restore to SD and restore back to new device
You could also try an OTA (over-the-air) sync like MightyPhone. You'll have to find an app that works with the SyncML standard, you can google for that.
Microsoft Live works as well for this purpose. Not as convenient though as Outlook with Active Sync but it is already installed on your device so you can start using it right away!

wm6 outlook 2003 contact sync issues

this is driving me nuts... first off the specs:
phone:
t-mobile wing
windows mobile 6 pro ce 5.2.1235 build 17740.0.2.0
factory settings (just got done clearing back to defaults)
computer:
xp pro 64 bit
outlook 2003
outlook connector synced to hotmail account
active sync 4.5
now the problem:
outlook has total control over my contacts... when i make changes to contacts in my phone, they get erased by the outlook contacts when i resync my phone to my computer... basically, if i want to have a number changed in my phone, i have to do it in outlook and sync it...
when i try to go to the sync settings, the option to change the direction is grayed out and i can't change anything... otherwise i would have my phone sync to my computer and not the other way around...
i have removed all partnerships, uninstalled and reinstalled outlook and active sync, defaulted my phone back to day 1, etc etc etc... how do i get this setting back from the dead???
thanks in advance,
bennie

I have seen others with a similar issue around here, I would run a quick search for their issue threads to see if they got a resolution, cant remember for sure myself.
Also might try the T-Mobile Wing forum as they migth have a more specific solution to the phone, but I dont think its the phone itself I think its windows being flakey again

Try sync the other way around. push the sync button on your mobile device. Not the sync button on your pc.
That should work

Importing Sim contacts, HOW?

The 'import the sim contacts' option is greyed out. How do i set this up?
All my contacts are saved to my sim.
i know its driving me insane? does any one know how to transfer contacts from HTC HD2 to windows phone 7????
Unfortunately it's not simple. This is how I did it...
I synced my HD2 phone with Outlook, then downloaded the Hotmail Outlook Connector which allowed me to sign into my Windows Live Hotmail account through Outlook then Outlook shows me two accounts - my old ActiveSync Local account and my Windows Live Hotmail account and it's just then a simple case of clicking and dragging from one to the other. The Windows Phone 7 will then just sync the changes automatically from your Windows Live account.
Hope this helps.
do you know how to find a mac address for this phone

Sorry, don't know the answer to that one, have tried looking though. The only way I can see at the moment is to connect it to a router then look through in the router's control panel for the MAC address of devices connected to it and work from there...
Isn't there no easier way importing sim contacts over?
just threw a sim in my desire and moved some contacts to it, I then put into my HD7, went to Settings / Applications / People the Import sim contacts was now usable and imported the contacts.
Not sure What's happening for you guys, the button should only be grey out if
a) Contacts are in the process of being copied
b) there are no contacts on the sim.

could it be related to the fact that ive unlocked it to a tmobile sim? and it cant read it for some strange reason
Can try my Orange SIM when I get home if no one else has tried by then, but I don't see it
you cannot use Microsoft My Phone account to synch (contacts and sms) HD2 and HD7?

Synchronisation issues with Galaxy S (2.2)

I have some synch issues (with KIES) for which I hope to find a solution here.
Issue 1:
I store the mobile number of several of my contacts in this syntax (in Outlook 2010):
*31#+312012345678
After synching the number is displayed in the Galaxy S as:
*31#312012345678
(note the + symbol is missing, the phone can't dial this number).
The reason that I store these numbers in this way is:
- I don't send out my callerID by default.
- For some contacts I do wish to send out my callerID, the prefix *31# does that.
Issue 2:
For most of my contacts I have a birthday listed in Outlook 2010. The birthday is automatically added to Outlook's Calendar.
When synchronising my Calendar & Contacts, the Galaxy S also detects the birthday and does the same thing, it adds a birthday to the calendar. However it doesn't use the same format as Outlook. Also it doesn't check if the birthday is already present in the calendar). So everybirthday is added to my calendar twice. Very annoying.
Does anyone know how I can resolve both issues?
Now I have to keep deleting double birthdays and editing contacts after a synchronisation.
I don't want to use a sync via Gmail, or anything. I want to sync directly between Outlook 2010 and my phone (via USB).
Anyone with a suggestion?
I notice inconsistencies between Outlook and my phone when I use Kies to synch...
I switched to using MyPhoneExplorer for synch, and only use Kies to check on firmware upgrades from time to time.
The calendar items (even birthdays and recurring meetings) now seem to be correctly synchronized... Kies used to somehow give me multiple listings of some calendar items and certain phone #s...
I think this was originally a Symbian product but the android version is on the Market, and you can grab the PC client on their website.
Thanks, however this tools does:
*31#+31<number>
into
*31#0031<number>
Something I don't want. I don't want the + to be replaced with 00.
Also the birthday issue still exists.
Any other suggestions?
Stop using kies. its a piece of ****
Written using grafitti on a Palm VII with 8 megs of ram and overclocked to 32mhz!

[Q] Unable to get Calendar to synch with Exchange

SGS v2.2 vanilla
Until this week had been able to get Calendar sync with my corporate exchange account. Had to factory reset phone as it would not boot up.
Reinstall of email accounts went OK ... and as usual selected to sync calendar & contacts.
Yet Calendar does not sync ... email & contacts do.
Calendar remains blank - (so it is not the problem with prior to 2010 dates)...... if I manually create an entry then it shows in Calendar as the 'next appointment'
If I double tap calendar (or go via settings/accounts & sync it shows that :
sync background data - ticked
auto-sync - ticked
corporate account 'sync is ON' and shows green circle.
If I do a force 'sync now' it spins for a second or so, but does not bring in any dates corporate calendar.
It's not account access settings as email & contacts coming across OK
Have carried out a h/w reset again without SD card ... same result, (to rule out card format issues.)
This is BT (Vodafone SIM) and also connected by WiFi.
email & contacts sync no problem.
Any ideas ?
update ... after 3 days had some calendar entries populate ... but stilll nowhere near in synch.
Anbody offer any help on this ?
I have the same error/bug whatsoever. Pls help us!

After hardware reset had no improvement ... I updated to FROYO then to Gingerbread .. uisng KIES 2
Now all OK.
I don't think it was a fix in the s/w but I think the new software flushed out something in the build that a reset could not clear.
I have the same problem with calendar. My biggest reason to get this phone is because I needed a good calendar that can sync with Office Outlook and I just can't get it done anymore. Nothing is being synced and I really need all my appointments with me at all times (I'm in the medical field and need to be able to give patients appointments anywhere I am and don't want to tell them I will call them back when I'm in the office)
Any solutions or is upgrading to Gingerbread and Kies 2 the only solution like Sargan did?
You guys may want to use an app from CodeTwo. It's been recommended to me by my friend who is Exchange admin in a big company, where employees wanted to be synced to their office calendars, mails etc. and access them on their mobiles. The program syncs exchange public folders with your private mail clients on androids, iphones, blueberries etc.
oh, sorry, forgot to say, it's called CodeTwo Exchange Sync and is free in a trail version. You can download it from CodeTwo's official website.
Or the Enhanced Email for that matter - works great and sorted out all Calendar issues I had.
