I have the i896 and when I first got it, I installed Opera Mini right away. but I prefer stock browser to be the default.
What I find now is that when I click on a link on the default browser (any link), it will ask me to choose (complete action using...) between stock browser and opera mini. I set the stock browser as default and goes on... However, when I click on a different link on the default browser, it will ask me to choose (browser vs opera mini) again!!! It's really annnoying. Does anyone have similar problem?
Just uninstall it. What is your name acronym for? In the States, KKK is no laughing matter.
It'll stop asking you.
It goes once per category and there are a few of them.

Hello
I have more than one browser installed. I want to be able to use all of them, så I have not set a default one.
When I open the standard browser, each time I click a link I get a prompt for which browser I want to open the link with. Extremely annoying.
Is there any way to make the browser use the current session/app to open a link without the prompt?
Nobody gets this - or is there no solution?
The browser does that automaticly. You can set another browser as default but if you open the standard browser it opens the URL with it and not with the one set as default. The same with other browser like firefox, opera and dolpfin hd.

This is a pita - and I can't believe this is how it's supposed to work but thank you for your answer
I personally use the dolphin HD browser.
I'm running darky port 7.2.
Whenever I click the browser icon it would ask for dolphin or internet(stock)
I check the box and click dolphin. But it still asks me if they want to set it as default... sometimes it asks and sometimes it doesn't... please help. It happened in cognition, assonance, axura, and now darky port......

Maybe you reflashed after setting default?
If you don't use the stock browser just freeze it using titanium backup (in case you want it back)....or just keep keep clicking on set as default for dolphin, eventually you will cover all the possible scenarios
Hey, I'm trying to fake my Android model version in the browser - the primary reason being that I'm trying to download some games straight from EA's mobile site, and it doesn't give me any download options for the i897 besides The Game of Life. So, if I could fake it as a different Galaxy S model, I'm thinking some other games might show up. Any ways that I might be able to do this?
Seems like a job for build.prop.
Use a user agent switcher on firefox to change the user agent settings to a specific phone (maybe fascinate or vibrant). You can look up on google what some of the user agent settings should be. If you can download the apk this way you can just transfer it to your phone and install it. Never tried downloading from EA but this might work if they're using the browser to check the phone model.

Unfortunately every way I know of changing your user agent on the stock browser causes crashes. Just download dolphin hd browser. It's nice, free and has the option to change the user agent to a desktop computer if you want.

Ooh, this might be one worth toying around with.

Don't know if it's a user agent thing, but I could certainly try it - I do wish it was easier to switch user agents on the default browser.

Now, non-default browsers can't use Flash, right? Not like I use it, but just curious.
Edit: Well, it looks like User Agent might be part of it, but I can't do any custom user agent strings with Dolphin or Firefox (much less the default browser, where I can't even find the setting even after I put in about:debug), just the default settings it provides.
Sorry I meant to use firefox on your pc to change the user agent so it looks like a mobile browser. The desktop version should have more options available in the extension (and shouldn't crash). I got a gameloft game this way and was able to download the apk, and then transfer it to my phone to install.

Yep, that worked perfectly, thank you!
I just got my galaxy s (captivate the other day), so I'm still new to the interface.
Anyway, some web page was crashing the browser every time, so I decided to try another browser. I found firefox in the app store and sure enough, ff could load the page that kept crashing the default android browser. So, i'd love to set firefox to be the default browser.
Can anyone help me figure out how?

Are you on stock or using a replacement launcher?
And if you click links from apps and stuff it should ask you which you want to use, just tap the check mark and select firefox.
Many thanks for the prompt reply. I'm on rooted stock (that sounds very botanical). You think maybe I need an aftermarket loader? I've seen some mention of app loaders, but don't really know what one is.
I did notice that links to web urls give me the chance to choose a browser. But, I'm also interested in changing the link on the bottom of my homescreen. Will a new launcher help with that?
Thanks for any advice.
LaucherPro is a great launcher... Fast and highly customizable. It will allow to change the icon and shortcut in your dock to FF. You can find it in the market.

I haven't been on the stock launcher for a long time, but I know you can change that icon by pressing 'menu' and selecting edit on the app drawer.
But a new launcher is always recommended, I use launcher pro as well

settings -> applications -> manage applications -> all -> browser -> CLEAR DEFAULTS
it doesn't matter what launcher you are using.

you can change the shortcut in the default touchwiz dock as well.......................... open app tray, hit the menu softkey, edit, customizable grid... drag the icons you don't want on the tray off. drag the icons that you want on the tray on. menu key, alphabetical grid (to fix the icons you dragged out), save.

Go to settings/apps/all apps, scroll to the stock browser, click on it, scroll down and clear defaults. Back out of settings, go to your app drawer, click on the desire browser, a pop up window will pop up asking which browser you want to use and will also have check box asking you to either set that one browser as default or to always open that one browser. Check the box and choose the browser you want as default and you're done.
By the way, this better be for the Htc One.
