Hey,
I've been trying to root my HTC Sense/Hero by Alltel, but every method I try will not work. The main reason I intend to root my device is to be able to access and modify [flash] Apk applications, or android games.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Hi and welcome to xda!
First thing's first: Are you rooted yet? You will be limited in what you can do until you root.
Here is a step by step guide to rooting 2.1.
Here is the board with all of the Hero ROM's.
It may appear daunting at first, but it's fairly straight-forward and easy to do. Just follow the directions exactly. Also, I believe there is a one-click root app around here somewhere called Androot, I believe, but I'm not sure how well it works, as I didn't use it to root. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

user7618 Thank YOU very much for the information, I greatly appreciate the help!
t12icky0, No need to be rude, it was just a question.
I'm brand new and hoping to get some advice if possible. I was able to root the phone with no problem thanks to the One Click Root Program so thank you to the Unlockr and to the thread on here.
Now, I'm not sure what to do about a custom ROM. I honestly just want to get rid of the AT&T bloatware. Other than that I have no requirements. I don't really care other than that as long as I can get rid of things that I don't want.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

since you got root, to remove att junks: install root explorer from android market and uninstall each junk manually. for custom firmware search forum for clockwork recovery (rom manager from market) and read instruction on op to install. gudluck

Download titanium backup which is free. It allows you to uninstall apps. Even system apps. Read and be careful. For the most part avoid all Google apps
Captivate
Cog 2.4
Thank you! I appreciate the help so far.
I apologize for posting in the wrong section. I thought I was in the right place but that was my mistake.
This thread can be deleted. I was able to root it and get Cognition on it with no trouble.
Thank you to everyone involved with the development and donations will follow soon.

Get the phone and slowly you will get familiar to it.
I hope ur talking about the rooted apps here, that would be no problem once u get easy with the handset.
Piracy is not a good thing..developers put in a lot of time and effort in their work, respect it and pay for it.
Rooting n modding is not for Cr****. Rooting is to just get extra privilege on note, for making it more customise your device.
and note, such things(Cra**/Piracy) are banned over XDA
Ok, thanks guys.. thats what i mean, the rooted apps.. But do you guys suggest to me that I should have my phone rooted, once i got my phone? Or is it just ok to leave it as is? Thanks!

The phone's great as is. If you're a newb, like I was when I bought my Note (and probably still am), I'd recommend sticking with stock for a bit until you familiarize yourself with everything your phone can do.
I bought a Note when it released in the beginning of December and I still haven't rooted my phone. Although I'm a little conservative that way.
One thread you might really want to read is the Tips and Tricks thread.
Ok, thanks for the reply again! I guess I'll just have to get one first, explore it, read the forums. Then see what happens then. How about the ROMS?

There are different methods, some more simple, what version you have?
if you mean andriod version... I have 2.2.2
Look for UPK 3.6 and from there you can root with Blackjack.
After the root process you won`t lose anything but the warranty.
Okay, will do. Thanks heaps!
rooting your phone is dangerous but once you have done it, you will get a chance to try different roms. In short, Its fun!!!

To the OP, always search for your question, it has no doubt been answered over and over again. Then, make sure you post your question in Q&A, not here in General.
Hi guys,
I see there are some cool stuff on this forum. I've read some tutos about how flashing, unlocking and installing the cfw... Therefore I have no clue how to do it. I did not find any videos on youtube too to do the things step by step on my phone. Could someone provide me step by step things to do to reinstall a cfw on my phone please? I know that it's asking too much maybe, but I really would love to learn doing it. Mt battery is used by the ICS so quickly and there so many useless apps in the phone that I can not erase. Thank you very much.
