yeah just have a disable lagfix file or folder in the sdcard/Voodoo/ directory and install this through ODIN, remove the disable lagfix file or folder and reboot.
hmm OP you should probably mention that volume buttons are reversed
i know you say all versions of jk2, but i'm running jk2 w/ 3e recovery. Will i need to change over from JK2 w/ 3e to JK2 w/ 2e recovery for this to work (as i've read recovery is somewhat tied to the kernel)?
Team Whiskey has released the stock JK2 kernel with Voodoo in their beta section. I'd imagine it will be publicly released sometime in the near future. The key mapping is not messed up since it uses the stock kernel. Patience young grasshoppers...
Hey OP, do you have a link to the original thread? i can't find it when i search...
EDIT: nm...found it. here it is for anyone else interested. https://docs.google.com/document/d/...HVMGpXheGc/edit?pli=1#heading=h.9bkg2u-i2ehea
FYI i read the whole page and it doesnt say anything about JK2. Also i says you have to back up your efs folder and i'm not sure how to restore that...so i would caution everyone to READ everything and be very sure they know what they are doing.

just wanted to check back in and say that i can confirm that this works on JK2. i installed it over Axura 2.0 and its working like a charm. i am by no means an advanced user, i just read and follow directions very well.
For those of you who care about numbers i got a 1533 quad score (sorry i didn't think to test Axura before voodoo so nothing to compare it to). i literally just flashed this thing so we'll see how it holds up in the future. so far though running very smoothly and responsiveness is great.
EDIT: also the volume buttons are reversed and home acts as back. not a huge deal for me.
EDIT2: also internal sd mounts as a CD drive, so you have to use the Media Player option to write to internal sd...which presents sort of a problem disabling it since the home key doesnt act as home. i just unplugged the usb to disable and it seemed fine though.
EDIT3: also this broke CWM for me. i got stuck in recovery and it just kept saying "finding update package" and just sat there. a battery pull didnt work since it just kept booting to recovery with that message. had to ODIN back to stock JK2. i wouldn't mess with this until its vibrant specific IMO.

you can extract the zImage from the CWM flashables, and then use heimdall to flash the kernel.
If you want and ODIN flash, you need to create a tar (not sure of the specifics, you could just copy the stock zImage into the voodoo odin tar and it'll replace the voodoo kernel w/ the stock kernel).
this is just the default i9000 froyo lagfix. the media volume does not make any sound with it, i have tried it before. along with all the other issues users have already posted. it is not suitable or meant for the Vibrant yet.
All it needs is to be ported for the Vibrant...everything else works fine. No colorfix tho
Anyone who has donated to team whiskey check out there forum. I have been running their froyo with ext4 voodoo for a couple of days with absolutely no problems. Not even in recovery. I'm sure it will be released soon assomeone else said earlier.

i'm loving my new Captivate, and i'm glad i made the switch to android. but one thing i wasn't expecting is the lag issues. i see that xda has more than a few solutions for me. but like i said this is my first android phone and the transition has been a little rocky. can anyone walk me through the one of the 1 click lag fixes? i'm on a mac so i'm already starting at a disadvantage. is there anyway i can do this whole thing via terminal emulator right on my phone?
Thanks
First, If you have access to a windows computer, try flashing this rom. its fixed alot of issues for me. including the lag.

but for the busybox step sideload this one cuz you need busybox 1.17.1(I've uploaded it here for you-http://www.mediafire.com/?z89f7zt9kyxb7n3)[the one in the market causes issues because its missing some commands)

OneClickLagFix V2.2 Install Error

I applied the lag fix as directed to my captivate froyo 2.2 and got an error. "Hit an error, undoing lagfix! OneClickLagFix V2.2+ failed with erro: Could not mont loopback device/dev/loop5! mount: Device or resource busy
What suggestions as to what I should do to correct this and continue the installation with OneClickLagFix? Delay my last...I found the answer I was seeking. OneClickLagFix V2.2 working as adverstised. Last benchmark test before OCLF V2.2 was 948 and after OCLF 1830.

Hi guys i have a samsung captivate . I installed froyo on it. Build number FROYO.UCJI6
I notice that when i am in applications and i browsing through i get some lag and it sometimes sticks for a slight second.. How can i fix this? i am a noob at these stuff..
I used the juiced ROM and it's great. Battery life rules and the lagfix is great.
try moving all the apps back to the internal memory, those apps that u moved to sdcard must go back to phone memory before applying the oclf

What is this? It's an experimental ROM install setup that avoids the use of RFS entirely. The install basically pre-voodoo's your phone. If you know you want voodoo, this is faster than installing then doing voodoo, but it's a little more complicated. Not much, but be warned. It avoids the use of RFS durring install completely, so no RFS corruption to worry about.
The ROM itself is mostly untouched. The kernel is my Dragon Kernel, i9k based, so it will eat your battery (froyo only, eclair is better as we have source). I can get about 12 hours out of it. Buy a charger.
The new version is a 1-click install. It installs the kernel, reboots into it, then auto-installs the ROM. I tested it coming from JFD without issues.
These are based on voodoo5 beta code. Curio is releasing voodoo5 stable here soon, and I'll post an updated no-wipe kernel flash for that.
The ROMS are Team Whiskey Obsidian, Onyx, and Fusion. I changed the install procedure and the kernel out, the rest is as they made it. I take no credit for the ROM. Please post bugs here however, so I can make sure they are ROM bugs before letting TW know about them. I'm running the Onyx version as my daily driver. There has been some private beta testing, and they seem stable, but do have Odin handy just in case. I have installed over the top of various ROMs, but the safest way is probably to come from JFD just to be sure.
ALL THESE ROMS WIPE. NO, I WON'T CHANGE THAT.
Obsidian V5b: http://www.tabbal.net/files/Dragon-Obsidian-Installer-v1.0.zip
Onyx 4.2: http://www.tabbal.net/files/Dragon-Onyx-Installer-v1.0.zip
Fusion Final: http://www.tabbal.net/files/Dragon-Fusion-Installer-v1.0.zip
NOTE: THESE INSTALL VOODOO. ALL THE USUAL VOODOO PRECAUTIONS APPLY, IF FLASHING SOMETHING, DISABLE IT FIRST.
The latest voodoo stuff seems to play nicer and I have flashed things from clockwork without bricking, but just be warned.
Updates:
Kernel with the stable voodoo5 release. Should work with any froyo ROM, does not wipe.

Curious! So what's the true (RFS free) Quadrant score for Vibrant?
Can we have just a kernel flash that will convert all the partitions? supercurio's i9000 flash doesn't wipe the data, it simply tars it and then untars it back once the conversion is done to each partition. Thanks for the hard work.

The post is about the ROMs, but yes, the kernel update I'm about to post will convert an existing system to ext4 on reboot with the just released voodoo5 stable code.
It's the custom kernel I reference in the OP. If you want more than about 12 hours off charger, don't install it. I'm going to look at Eugene's recently posted source to see if I can implement whatever he did to get the kernel sleeping better, but no promises. And reports are kind of mixed last time I looked at it anyway.
When Samsung gets around to releasing source, we can do better. Till then, give me a patch or don't complain about it.

Nice. I'll hold off trying this with Axura 2.1 until this posted, then. A battery life of 12 hours is fine in exchange for what Voodoo will provide in return.

Froyo Kernel on Eclair?
ttabbal,
I did not know that a Froyo kernel could be backward compatible to Eclair. Is that the case, given that your Dragon 2.0 incorporating Voodoo 5 Stable will work with Bionix Fusion?
Please help me to understand this.
More to the point, I am on Bionix 1.9.1. Would Dragon 2.0 w/Voodoo 5 Stable work on my setup?
Thanks,
Bruce
Would love to use this, however i cant seem to get anything to install from the market no matter what i do. My TitaniumBackup restores just fine(apps only). Ive ODIN'd back to JFD twice but still nada. Ill try starting from JI6 and see if it helps.

So I'm running ttabbal's latest kernel, 2.0, and just ran a quadrant. It gets 1564 as the score. Now, this isn't just from voodoo alone, he's done a few speed tweaked which will bump up the score. But it's snappy as hell.
"if you amplify everything, nothing is heard"
Just put this in my phone and its works fine I'm running axura 2.1 works fine but u will see a second boot up screen the benchmark test is not that high I got in the 2500 with the oclf inthe market download but can't do that one anymore it tells me I have one installed already but over all its smooth
Don't worry about benchmarks, they are easy to fool in a high level system like Android. Cyanogen managed to get something stupid like 10k out of Quadrant.
This setup isn't for being a benchmark queen. It's targeted at a couple things I deem important. Multitasking smoothness/performance, and a test of direct-to-ext4 install. The no-wipe voodoo kernel is really intended to be used as part of the whole, but like I said, it should work with any froyo. Note: NOT ECLAIR. If there is more demand for an eclair version, I'll consider updating my eclair ramdisk as well.
As for the market, couldn't say. It's NOT the rom/kernel though. The market is a finicky thing and sometimes just doesn't work. It's usually the server side or the app itself that has an issue though. There's also an update to Market for Froyo, it seems to be more stable. You should get it downloaded automatically after running for a while. To check, look at an app description, you should have a new tab "Related".
When I've had market problems, I fire up my Wife's G2 on a stock rom (not even root) and she does too, so it's not anything I, or anyone other than Google, can control.
Does anyone know whether the Dragon Kernel that works with any Froyo ROM available from the OP supports use of a BootAnimation.zip?
UPDATE: Thanks geoffcorey for the info!
Tried on Axura 2.1 with larger nand. Flashed, rebooted, converted with no issues and is running very well so far. Haven't been successful getting Voodoo to run before now.
Thanks to TW, ttabbal, Supercurio, et al.

I did this very thing in my post #16 above yours. Go for it! Remove any other lag fixes you may have though. I had none installed so I didn't have to do that. PERFORM A NANDROID backup and optionally copy to a computer before flashing the kernel to be safe. Restoring the Nandroid backup won't restore the kernel though.
The dangers are minimal if you backup. Permanently bricking the phone is unlikely. You may soft brick but you probably won't. PLUG IN AND DON'T TURN OFF THE PHONE UNTIL THE "TW" LOGO DISAPPEARS! Around this time, you will hear a voice say voodoo has been activated.
I believe the conversion process may attempt to revert the changes it tried to make in the event of an unsuccessful conversion. If reversion is successful then you should again have access to CWM to flash back to any rom you have stored on your phone. Use nandroid to restore your data and your back to normal.

cognition is based on leaked captivate froyo, like what you are on. Many, like the rom I am on are on leaks our official releases from other devices.

You could just pull the kernel out of the cognition rom and flash that. It will bee the zimage file in the updates folder. Easiest method is using sgs kernel flasher app that neldar created. Then you could keep what you have and enjoy voodoo lagfix as well until you find a rom that you want to try.
Sgs kernel flasher. It is an app in the market that the last poster mentioned. Looks like you can use it to change your kernel and get voodoo. I have not used it yet though

See THATS what im talkin about. You guys rock. Once I flash the kernel...which voodoo do i use? Not sure that lagfix only is availabe....have you seen a screen problem with voodoo? One guy said his screen had a red tint and im not really into that kinna stuff. lol
Voodoo uses ext4 file system so not really a choice other than on/off or choosing to use it for /system (yes by default). I have not seen a screen color change using kernels with the "color fix" and I don't think the kernel in cognition even utilizes it, though I could be wrong.

one last question. if hell freezes over and we DO get an official 2.2 pushed to our phones.....the method to disable voodoo is the same for us leaked 2.2 folk correct? making a folder that says disable lagfix ?
If the kernel does not have disable built into recovery, yes disable lagfix folder in voodoo folder on sd card will disable it. Also, if you use Odin to get back to stock it will wipe out the ext4 file system.

Hmm. So the bluetooth will not properly work when I flash the rom that you use? And is it okay to flash the cognition when I'm on the updated ECLAIR? The UCJH7 one..
Correct. Bluetooth will NOT work. Its recommended to flash back to stock..although im not sure if its required in your case...this may help http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884364
Ok so I was looking into methods on how to speed up my captivate and OCLF came up. I did it and it worked great but as I read on , many said to not use it as it was outdated. Is there something similar that uses a faster file system that I can use? Stock 2.2, Rooted
Eh. Maybe...
If you want really fast speed and dont mind flashing, i would flash firefly 3.0, its pretty safe just make sure you have 100% charge when you do it. Then get the OC/UV kernal onix 2.0.5 and boot into recovery and change the file system to ext4...
Any questions? Make another post here i've already done this and can help you out.
I'm kind of hesitant on flashing a rom :/ is there any other way to do it?
Voodoo lagfix doesn't have a fix for froyo yet. Got any love for flashing a kernal?
The extisz Kernal would be for you It has the Voodoo Fixes and everything. You would just need to get the modded 3e recovery and then get CWM and flash the .zip you can download from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=988805
You could always go back to JF6 and mod everything on it, and voodoo would work on that
OR you could just do OCLF its going to be a little increase, not much because the filesystem changes to ext2 not ext4, voodoo does ext4 which is faster
Search for any KB1 kernel in the Dev section. If you want you stay as true to stock as possible, use Supercurio's stock KB1 + Voodoo kernel. It's nothing fancy, but it works really well with stock KB1.
Existz's KB1 kernel is also good. Overstock KB1 1.3 is another.
Sorry for the really nooby question but what is a kernel? And if I flashed a rom or a kernel how would I get back to stock if I ever wanted to? Also does my data carry over from rom to rom?

In short, the kernel is what talks to the phone and how fast it functions. If you flashed a ROM or kernel you could get back to stock by using the Odin one-click downloader, and yes your data carries over. You will not loose data unless the modem you are using for a paticular ROM is not very good in your area...which can also be swapped out for a better one.
But you should really read some of the helpful guides about flashing ROMs.. it will answer a lot of your questions, and future questions
Lol, he wasn't talking about internet data, yes your data can be backed up and restored rom to rom with an app called titanium backup.

Its all user preference. While I can say this is the fastest ROM my phone has ever run someone else could say the same about the ROM they are running. Best bet is to try them for yourself and make a decision based on what YOU like.
