Is MIUI is worth installing and using it as main OS for the N1?
For day to day use, is it reliable?
It looks very nice and I'm tempted...
I've been using Geo's rom for a while and it's been stable.
Miuis rom is very stable for everyday use. Install Rods version its alot better than the stock version in my opinion
MIUI is the best ROM ever! Specially the new version... Be sure to try it.
I like it but i still prefer CM!
I just wish some of the features in that ROM would go into CM I'd help do that but i'm not a dev
So I should go with Rodz version? But he's using .5 and the lates is .12, as far as i know. Is it easy to update the MIUI rom within the rom or do i have wipe and reflash everything from recovery?
As with most Roms, wipe and flash. Used Rod's MIUI for awhile, was very happy with its speed and stability. Still always tempted to go back.
I use Rod's MIUImod with ADW.Launcher. It's brilliant.
Few days ago have flashed miui...
its the best nexus custom rom i ever seen!
I tried Rod MUIU and it is nice and quick, there a few things I personally didn't like which is why I'm back at MicroMods 2.10 Sense.
remember if you don't like the launcher you can always use LauncherPro or ADW
Yea I use the stock miui detox with launcher pro plus and Rom I used. I don't care for the stock launcher to many apps on the screen I'm to lazy to put them in order lol.
Yea I switched from MIUI to the latest CM rom. MIUI is ok but a few things kept me away.
The Lockscreen is cool but you can't change the background unless you use the stock iphone launcher
I don't care the the "iphone" launcher
The drop down menu has data tools, which is awesome, but CM has them at the top and has the ability to put only the ones you want on there. The MIUI puts them at the bottom, so I constantly kept activating them while managing the menu.
The new phone and messaging app are odd. While I liked the ability to SMS multiple recipients, it would tend to not display all of my contacts and I would have to manually select them from my Contacts list.
The Contacts list would not sync with Facebook automatically. You have to a manual sync from a "Facebook Sync" app. My gf actually started a fight over why her contact didn't have a profile picture on it (she thought I was "hiding" her).
Meh. Rod's version is the way to go if you want MIUI. But really once you put Launcher Pro on top of any rom, it behaves the same. I just like the on-the-fly theming options and drop down menu data toggles of CM's latest.

Lel, nope. You can change the lockscreen's wallpaper regardless of your launcher.
I'd say it's worth it. Obviously CM6 has some advantages over it, just as it has some over CM6. It depends on your needs. For me, the smoothness and more importantly battery life--along with the slick lockscreen--are enough to keep me using it as my day-to-day ROM. Stable, fast, works.
Not saying it's the right ROM for everyone, but it does have a lot to offer.

1. You CAN change the Lockscreen background while using launcher pro.
(charging animation is sweet on lockscreen)
2. The drop down menu data tools, some actually rearrange based on how much you use them, so the most used functions show up in the visible area and then you can just slide to use the others.
3. It has built in screen capture feature using menu and volume down at the same time.
4. It gets updated every week with new features and fixes.
5. It has built in apps2ext, if you have ext partition.
6. It has built in CPU control toggle for battery saving when needed.
I used Miui for a long time. I went from the first release on up to 11.05. (Stock, never used Rod's)
After all the uses I have to say it is a fairly stable and unique version of android,
I give props to the Miui team and dj and mobius and the bunch.
But, in the end it came down to 'function over form' for me.
Basically there is no rom that has as many features as CM.
And with a few tweaks you can make CM visually identical to stock.
The look of stock is important to me.

Hey guys,
Is anyone brave enough to test the full feature 1.5 build of Open Home Full? We know we can always find some brave ones here
It requires that you are running android 1.5 on your phone (aka Cupcake). This build has full supports of 1.5 widgets and also a good amount of stability and performance improvements.
We had not done a lot of testing on this build; also this build will expire in a month (5/30). If you want to test the latest and greatest, feel free to install and try this build.
*Remember safe mode is hold menu button when powering on*, if you see anything wrong, just enter safe mode and then uninstall it.
Do NOT install unless you are running android 1.5
Download the apk at
http://groups.google.com/group/openhome/files
I assume since I'm running the dudes build and it supports widgets it may work. I can always remove if necessary . This doesnt remove open home right? just a different version?
EDIT: it replaces the existing open home
Hmm, I was impressed with the demo of OpenHome when I downloaded it a couple days ago. I'll take a look.
downloading it now. I have just flashed the holiday cupcake build so I assume it'll work with this. I'll let you know.
So far so good. I am glad to have openhome back again in 1.5
I have added all widgets, and they all work as expected. Are some of these the 1.5 "stock" widgets? I assume so because i see 2 music widgets listed, one looks like your own and the other a stock one.
I'll let you know how it goes after some proper usage. great work so far though. thankyou.
oh, p.s .. Will this be a free upgrade for those who had previosly purchased open home full ?
Works well enough. I like it.
Normally use full edition but will keep this until it is updated.
Suggestion: How about that calendar widget from Haykuro's build so those with dude's builds can use it?
Using it. Works well so far. I'm an OH Full user too, will I have any problems going back to the market app when it gets updated/released?
Ps. Is there any way to add support for Jeff Sharky's weather widgets? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=509729
Weather widgets ok here. Problem with battery percentage widget though

Hey guys i like the changes the menus are a little more intuitive now! Shame it doesn't seem to maintain your icons from older version, but weirdly kept my fonts theme etc - not sure if that qualigfies as a bug or not really
One problem i have found though is it seems to scrap folder icons the second you open bettercut again, not a huge problem but ....
BUGS!
I have almost 200 apps to SD so it's convenient to have my favorite "few" on the desktop. After I installed the new apk file... everything was GONE! Huge inconvenience! Then when I pull up the app menu I can watch them appear one after another like the app is doing a search for the installed apps. I also tried Picture Frame. It seems like it pulls up the Camera app, then the gallery. I selected my picture. Cropped it. Saved it. Then it went back to "select picture" again. Strange. Also... AnyCut Open Home Edition doesn't work. Definite bugs.
Other then that I love it. Thanks! Is this going to be in an update and when will it be available in Market? I purchased the full version months ago.

I don't think it has anything to do with bettercut because I don't have it installed and it still goes back to the default folder icons randomly, sometimes it comes back sometimes it doesn't.

Hey quick question, is there any way to add a 3d effect on swipe? Like when you swipe to left or right screen, screen shrinks and rotates as a 3d cube. That will be awesome dude, you can name the app something different and charge for it again because I know damn well people will pay for it. I definitely will.

Trying it out on my new Magic
But it's not 'open' in any sense...
Really dissapointed in losing all of my icons on all 7 screens. Glad that "real" widget support was actually added in. Almost went back to dxTop because of this. Please make the full version available on the market as an upgrade to the old full version. It would be nice to make it detect the old settigns and import them in.

Opps. You have to wipe now.
Just kidding. You deal with it the same way as if you would set the defaults as any other app. Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>Home>Clear defaults.
Been using this app for a few days now.I havent ran into any problems with it pretty smooth.Only down side was losing my icons. But no biggie.
I recently rooted and installed CyanogenMod RC 3, and now I'm not really sure what to do. I'm not really sure what CM can do that FroYo couldn't, other than little things like wakeup with trackball or customizing your notifications. What are some of the great features of CM that aren't apparent? A ton of people appear to be using this ROM, so I have to imagine that it's capable of a number of great things that I'm just not aware of.
I do have 3 specific questions though. First, I am just not feeling this ADW Launcher. I don't know if it's just not being utilized properly, but I came from LauncherPro and loved it much more than ADW so far. I mean I can't even figure out how to move/delete widgets from my screen! The one thing I do like is how customizable the widgets are, in terms of columns and rows. Is that an ADW thing or a CM thing? Also, can LP be installed on CM or will that cause problems/reduced functionality?
Secondly, since this is just an RC, inevitably we will have have another release of this mod. Will I need to Wipe my phone before installing the final version? I don't want to spend all this time re-downloading/installing all my apps only to have to do it again in a few weeks when the final release is available.
Thirdly, will Quick Profiles work on CM? I had that on Stock and I really liked how I could easily switch ringer/notification volume in different places.
TIA.
1. Yes, you can use launcher pro.
2. There's no need to wipe.
3. Yes
Developers always tell you to wipe to prevent odd stuff from happening. If you encounter bootloops after a flash, or any odd behavior, it's best to wipe and then reflash. Therefor, a full wipe is a preemptive measure, so you don't have to reflash. The only thing you should need to wipe would be the Cache partition and Dalvik Cache, but that's only if you switch from another rom usually.
The best way to think about cyanogenmod:
Stock froyo is like a Mustang. It's fast, it's sleek, and it feels good.
Cyanogenmod is like Saleen. They take the Mustang (stock froyo), and tune it to the optimum. They add features, remove/replace unnecessary bits, lighten up the load, and smack a sickass bodykit on it.

As a sequel to my Cyanogen Nighlies thread, I thought it appropriate to create a celebratory post linking to the stable release of 6.1.0 for the Droid Incredible.
Please reply with your experiences, inquiries, and love for one of the smoothest, rock solid ROMs available for your device. I am also open to ideas about what else to include in this OP including links to themes, juicy nuggets of relevant info, or known issues (should we find any that are repeatable).
For now, please enjoy this excellent release, and kick a few pennies up to Koush. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
Download link (or just grab it from ROM Manager):
http://mirror.teamdouche.net/?device=inc&type=stable
Known issues:
-Cyanogen default auto brightness adjusts only once, so moving from light to dark results in protracted dim settings.
-While disconnected from the charger, trackball wake will intermittently fail. This is a known bug and has been filed as such.
-Flash Test does not do anything for applications that don't have a customized setting. It should still blink using the systemwide default green when a real event comes in.
Solution Sets/Workarounds:
To install the new Market and avoid FCs:
1) settings-applications-manage and delete cache for the market
2) wipe cache
3) wipe dalvik cache

Incredibleks. Best Kernel ever. Seriously, for AOSP Roms, it is the choice. Seriously, overclocking on a snapdragon is pretty pointless. The speed differences are pretty much non-existent.
op link is messed up. you got an emoticon stuck in it
wow.. it took a while but nice to see it make final.. seemed like it was never gonna make it past rc status
I'm on 17 and love it but it appears that different kernels are acting differently on different phones. I was on 18 for a while an noticed that battery life wasn't as great and went back to 17, while other people said that 18 was better than 17 on their phone. Now 19 is out and if you look at the last couple of pages half the posts say that 19 is the best yet for battery and the other half is reporting ridiculous battery loss. You're probably best off getting the most recent one listed on the first post (#18).
Great ROM. I was running the nightly for literally a day only to come back at night and see a stable. This + the Gingerbread theme + Gingerbread Launcher will hold me over until the source drops for GB and we get a port
L.E.D don't work when getting text,mail,etc... other then that runs smooth. Thanx for all the hard work u guys put into these!
One question I have is this: I know how to remove the status bar widgets, but after doing so I'm stuck with that blank space normally occupied by the Verizon Wireless banner. Is there a way to put that back in there so there isn't that gap?
Odd that I want it back I know, but some things I'm just anal about.
Is there anyway to make it so that when you unlock and turn off the screen its instant instead of the fade out effect?

Optical pad wake
Is anyone else having a problem with the optical pad wake only working once in a while? It always works if the phone is charging but if it isn't charging it's like a 30/70 chance of it working. It seems to work if you hold it down for like 5-10 seconds but that sucks.
Does anyone know how to make it so when I install this ROM all of my apps do not auto reinstall from the market...? My old wallpaper from an AOSP i had like 4 months ago still pops up as default also!
Even if I select "do not backup apps with google" it does not work. I have also tried formatting my SD card, and phone storage to no avail...
I want to install this, but everytime I have installed an AOSP ROM and then a theme, it goes haywire because there is some sort of backup file I can't find.

There's a bug report for this but no one has been able to fix it. I believe it's the trackpad sleeping when not on the charger.
Sometimes a long press and then a short one works.. sometimes it just works.. other times you have to hold it until the screen comes on..
My power button is broken so I live with the press and hold..

You can flash over previous versions of MIUI but there are lot of changes in this release so I would recommend a wipe.
This is the best release of MIUI yet in my opinion. I have had the least amount of issues and that seems to be the consesus on the MIUI forums as well. Give it a try...
Any bugs? Fully translated to English? I dont keep up with these MiUI ROMs, but last I checked they were in some asian language.
there are always some bugs but very few in this release. All the main features work as they should. (GPS, BT, wifi, camera, etc)
It is fully translated and is very stable.

If you go to the MIUI forum you will see what bugs there are. I have only experianced a couple when some doing system settings. Nothing that is a big deal for me. All ROMs in my experiance have some glitches, MIUI is not exception. I really like the polished look and the built in features.
I've been testing it for a while and I think there is a problem with the Geolocation over network/wifi.
Example: News and whether app not able to get location.
Everything else is working so far.
I've been using MIUI since November builds and this is by far the best build except one major bug. The launcher FC a lot. I've fully formatted my phone wiped eveyrhimg and anything you can wipe and left with all default theme and everything else the ROM starts with and dame thing still FC on the launcher. Until that's fixed I've changed ROMS and glad I did I've no issues at all with Municipal warm 2.2 RLS 5.3 so far it's flawless.

However, I know since some people may not want to upgrade to Honeystreak for some reason or another, or just like Froyo more than Honeycomb, I am working on modding the stock 2.2 ROM to use a lower screen density, giving it more of a tablet feel.
So, I've already lowered the screen density to 120 (I can use 130 or 140 if people prefer) and I am trying a few different launchers (I saw a stock Froyo launcher in an Evo 4G thread, it if looks good, I might use that, to get more of a stock Android experience) because Dell Stage does not look good if you change the density. I might to a couple build.prop edits, to make it feel smoother, and I plan on removing or adding apps (it's already root, so Superuser and Root Explorer will be included.)
If anyone has any requests for apps to add or remove, any advice that might help, or anything else useful, please feel free to tell me.
Also, since this uses the 2.2 kernel, this should be flashable through CWM, which is the main reason I am making it. Basically, it'll be stock Froyo, on the stock kernel, designed to feel more like a tablet.
Since this is more of a discussion than a ROM release, being that it's not out yet, if this would be better in general, mods can feel free to move it
EDIT: So, here are the changes from stock Froyo: Dell Stage has been replaced with Launcher Pro (set to display a 6x6 icon grid), it's pre-rooted and comes with Super User and Root Explorer, the build.prop has been edited for a 130 screen density, less frequent scanning for a wifi network (to save battery), and smoother scrolling and scaling. I want to find a user agent that enables all market apps, and remove some bloatware.
Love launcher pro, if you could theme it like ginger bread that would be awesome too.

I don't think the free verison of LauncherPro is themable, but I can probably install a Gingerbread themed launcher as an alternative.
More a kernel than a ROM thing, but I want tun.ko, and I know some others want CIFS.. I'm really missing using OpenVPN on my DS7, as it's the only way I can sync my Google account at work on wifi without tethering to my phone.
Why go back to froyo? rooted gingerbread with cwm density 120 would be nice.....

lol. It's Froyo because, unlike DJ_Steve, I am not awesome enough to port anything else. Modding the OS it comes with is alot easier than making a new one
Anyways, I am basically using Build.prop and adding/removing APK's to make it feel more like a tablet. Then, I'm going to create a zip using CWM or something.
I would like it to be fast and swift with no bloat wear and also support for swapper 2

Send dj steve some dr dre beats headset funds and im sure he will let you use his gingerbread and then you can mod it with cwm and change density and maybe add overclocking lol
Try Zeam Launcher. It's pretty simple, but free and you can customise the rows/columns and such to make it more tablet-like.
I'd like to see overclock, black notification bar, and improved battery life. If there's anything that can be done to make Cell Standby not such a hog (way more battery goes to this over my Galaxy Tab), that would be awesome.
Well, as far as improved battery life, for the WiFi version, the cell apk's will be disabled by default, and I did a build.prop edit that scans for open wifi networks less frequesntly, so if WiFi is on but not connected, you drain less battery scanning. I've tried changing the Browser user-agent in build.prop, but when I went to whatismyuseragent or whatever that site is, even though it said I was using Mozilla 5, it still knew it was Android, so I'm looking for a way to better spoof a PC, so mobile sites aren't viewed by default. As far as editing cell standby or overclocking, I might get DJ_Steves Streakdroid 1.3 build, and then apply my changes to that, so you get the overclocking kernel, but that would mean taking away Bluetooth. Also, I'm still trying to figure out how to rip the ROM with clockwork - if I just make a backup, it checks the MD5, so it won't work for someone else.

Lol. 2 problems. First, if he had a Gingerbread ROM, I think he would've released it. Second, if I had a pair of Beats, I'm keeping those 300 dollar headphones for myself
things to add
A couple of major things to have would be :
1) a modified wpa supplicant file to allow tethering to adhoc (pm me if u need it)
2) any basic file explorer
3) a working overclock
4) vtl launcher - xda flavor
Just a few for thought

Ugh. Don't insult our only dev by mentioning insanely overpriced, terrible headphones.
There are several features that I am used to on CM7 that I miss daily on my tablet. Primarily, the notification power widget and the ability to swipe to clear notifications. Also, being able to select the rotation angles available would be handy.
Would be nice but might be a bit much: Automatic backlight level adjustments and lockscreen tweaks.

Swipe on notifications is a Gingerbread function.. and really? That annoys me more than anything.

Oh god yes, I am going crazy without it! How do you get rid of a single notification if you dont want to open the app? For example, when downloading updates from the market. I love the ability to swipe swipe swipe, open, swipe. I have never once accidentally dismissed something I didnt want to, so I dont see how it could be even remotely annoying.
For me it seems like the most intuitive solution.

I've never once cared to leave a single notification, I always just hit clear.

Options: the beauty of Android. I second the swipe to clear a single notification idea.
I wish I could do that. I'm basically just using APK's and build.prop tweaks to get it how I want it. I don't know enough about programming for Android to do anything interesting :-/
Basically, as of now (and untill I figure out how to rip the ROM for public upload) it's a lower screen density, some build.prop tweaks for smoother scrolling and better battery life, running on rooted Froyo. It's pretty basic :-/
