[Q] Problem with USB tether - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I was assuming since Windows 7 comes with like drivers for everything, I'd be ok, but apparently I'm not. I'm dropping my ISP this week. I can't justify paying $30/month for the same internet connection that USB tethering my phone can provide me. I plugged it in to Tether and I get a failed driver install. Windows knows that it's an android phone, thats about it though. Can anyone point me in the correct direction??
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate, 32bit
Phone: Hero CDMA w/ CyanogenMod 6.0 and a kernel that allows 768mhz OC.

It does come on windows 7. Could be your cable, try another to make sure. And what rom? If it's sense, you have to use htc sync software. If it's cm, google wired tether for root users and use that instead of the built in one, the built in one has bugs with htc phones.

So it turns out the drivers weren't on Windows 7. Once I could find them, I was ok

usb tethering

does anyone know of any apps that are out there for usb and/or wireless tethering that will work with linux without having to root the eris? the only one i know of is pdanet but it doesn't work on a computer running linux (which is what i have my wife running on her laptop) and my wife didn't let me root her phone before she left to go home for a couple weeks and where she is staying doesn't have internet.
Barnacle? But I don't know what it will or will not work with.

My N1 and Windows 7(No connection while USB mode)

It seems that when I try to connect my n1 to my CPU, my CPU can not recognize my n1 SD card while its in USB mode.
I am currently running window 7 32b. I thought it was my windows that was faulty so reformat my CPU with fresh copy of windows. However that was not the case. So I tried my other computer running windows XP and it picks up the SD card instantly. So I tried a new SD card in my N1 tried it again. Didn't work. I am confused. Everytime I need to transfer files from my CPU to my n1 I have to pull out the SD card. Its strange. All the drives were installed correctly but it will not detect. Other CPU will detect. Is anyone having this issue with windows 7 on your computer. I wan to fix this. Its really getting annoying. Please if you guys have any ideas let me know. I even called HTC and they figured out its my CPU not the phone. And I agree. It works on other windows but not my windows 7.

Make sure usb debugging is checked marked before trying to mount....See if that works

USB debugging works fine. I am able to use adb commands. Funny thing is phone thinks its in USB mode. There's got to be some driver issue or something. Drivin me crazy.

If all else fails...get one of those WiFi file transfer apps. Way, Way, Way faster than transfering through the USB cord on the N1 (tops out at 2mbps).

What's the app call? Yeah I can't find what's wrong. Spent three hours. This sucks.

Try Websharing. That's what I use.
Thx I will give it a try.

Try another PC. My Home PC that I built used to recognize it... then stopped... then wouldn't for weeks... and just the other day I noticed it found it (after a minute).
Today on my netbook (EeePC 1000HE) it gave me fits a few times before coming up.
Nothing really changed on my Home PC really and USB sticks would read just fine, but not my N1. I know I reset the thing many times without success so finding it working was surprising.
One thing I use are my existing mini-usb cables and I picked up these little mini-micro usb converters. Perhaps those are flaky?

[Q] Usb tethering, Windows 7, and Fresh 2.4.0

I AM: Trying to get instructions for how to get computer-side drivers all set up properly for Windows 7 x86.
I CAN: Use ADB/Mount SDCard
I HAVE: Fresh 2.4.0 with the 2.11 Eris PRI That allows native USB tethering.
Please don't post in my thread if your answer is: Use Wifi tether, Use Easytether/PDANet, use [productx], etc etc.
Also: I spent about 20 minutes searching, but can't be bothered to spend longer trying to search from my phone.
You have to use htc sync software. When you plug in, one of the options is tethering.

Alright, I got it. Just had to reinstall the drivers specifically for Wired Tether.

USB Tether on a Mac

I need help setting up USB tethering from my hero to my Mac. I'm using hero deck gingerbread rom and have the USB tether option available, but I don't know what settings to input on my Mac in order for it to work. Does anybody know? I know that I can use wifi tether but would prefer to go via USB since the phone gets so hot. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It's gonna get hot anyway it's the 3G radio that makes it hot and uses up the battery. You should just plug the phone in with usb and use the wireless then you can feel like you have a wired tether. If you plug in the phone to the computer you will burn the battery faster than the computer can charge it. Plug it into the wall to get a stronger charge.
I've found that I get faster speeds via USB on my ubuntu pc. I wish there was a way to get it to work via USB on my mac.

I used to use an app called pdanet http://junefabrics.com/android/ to tether to my mac.
It has two parts, an app for the mac and an app for the phone, you installed both and it set up a wired internet connection. Worked great for me.
the native usb tether dosnt work on mac for somereason however pda net and easy tether has a desktop client for mac that works.
or you could try usb tether from google.code it should work on mac
Thanks for the help! Pdanet works very well. It's very odd, at times I'll have solid download speeds and other times less than desirable speeds. I wonder why that is.

[Q]

hi all,
I don't seem to be able to copy anything from my HTC One via the USB cable..
When I connect the device 'usb debugging' is enabled on the phone, and the device shows up in Windows Explorer. If I browse the folder structure, it will hang.
If I connect the phone, wait until 'usb debugging' is enabled, and disable it, the phone reconnects, and I can browse with more success, and even copy a few files, but anything more than a few and it hangs again.
I've tried doing both of these with the HTC Sync app, and guess what.. it hangs. This is the same on two different Windows 8 PCs, with the original HTC cable.
Is there a known working driver or anything that I should be aware of?
Thanks, as always, in advance.
M
Some people have had issues on Windows 8, but not me. Install the latest "HTC Sync Manager". I think the version is something like 2.0.61.
Yeah I tried that. It managed to connect and start syncing, but then hung. Think I'll try the wife's Windows 7 laptop, maybe it doesn't like Windows 8.

It's fine for me. Stay away from USB3 ports.
Its not usb3 either, as my laptop doesn't have any USB3 ports :/
