[Q] How to confirm the internal sd card - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Most of the people are complaining about I9000M internal sd card.
After flashing the original firmware, you stuck on S logo of i9000M .
Does it indicate the sd card failure or it can be another problem.
How can you confirm that your internal sd card has gone.

:/
go into recovery mode (volume up + home + power)and if it shows below, then your internal is gone
E: can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1
(no such file or directory)
E:copy_dbdata_media:cant mount SDCARD:
copy default media content failed.

[Q] Need Help - I think My SD Card is dead

I was using my phone today and it froze. I took out the battery, restarted, and then it got stuck in the galaxy S loop. I factory reseted + wiped cache still no luck. external sd card could no longer be mounted. I tried flashing JL2 and than a speed kernel. The phone then booted up but i couldn't download any apps because the phone didn't recognize an internal or external SD card (wouldnt allow me to save). I also tried just flashing JL2 manually and JH2 without the speed kernel but the phone doesnt even make it past the Galaxy s screen without restarting. Sometimes the phone goes into recovery mode after reboot and it says:
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1
(I/0 Error)
E:copy_dbdata_media: Can't mount SDCARD:
you storage not prepared yet. Please use UI menu for formant and reboot actions.
Is my SD card dead? It seems like it. Any suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated!
same thing happen to me this wed, your internal SD card is dead

External SD card no longer recognized, how to get it back?

Hello,
Today I tested out the wipe feature of an anti theft app (was on JVO stock + CF Root Kernel). The external SD was not modified in any way (no speedmod, ext file system or anything).
For some reason, it failed (it did work successfully in the past). It neither wiped the internal nor the external SD card. Now the external SD card is gone (see below).
After the wipe the phone auto rebooted and recovery mode showed this:
Code:
Android system recovery <3e>
[i]standard options were listed here, the "reboot system now" option was selected and the system was waiting for input[/i]

So I clicked "reboot now"
Now the main issue: since then the SD card is no longer recognized.
The taskbar icon keeps saying "SD card is empty or" (the rest is outside the screen). Storage info says unavailable (see attached pic).
Any chance to get the card working again? I don't really care about the lost data as I backed this up prior.
Also tried to access the card with a card reader in Windows but nothing happens at all when I insert the card into the reader.
Try to make a folder called external_sd on your internal card.

Ok, did that and even created a folder inside external_sd. Now what?
It still shows "not available" on the external SD card storage space info. Formatting still does nothing and mounting card via the settings menu just hangs.
edit: copied over a few hundred MB into the external_sd folder. According to the storage space info it consumes space on the internal card so apparently that new folder is not really accessing the external card?
My external sd wasn't recognised too (but with MIUI), after I created this folder everything worked fine. So it would have been possible that it works for you too.
But don't copy anything into the folder, let it empty.
Sadly, that didn't do the trick.
Aren't there any tools or anything in recovery menu that could help me getting the ext. SD card recognized again? I can't even format it in Windows since it's not recognized.
Have you tried another sdcard in your Galaxy?
This is the only SD card of this type I have. :/
did you try flashing your phone ?
Yes, I flashed a few times (downgraded from Gingerbread JVO to Froyo JPU, then flashed to JPY and eventually via Kies to GB again, JVI), the problem remained.
I think you have problems with internal sd card ( storage ) If you have waanty you need to go to service, change phone.
Could you explain this further? What makes you think the internal SD storage is faulty? So far, only the external card no longer works.

As you can see, phone can't format /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 and other partitions.
mmcblk0p2 mounted at /sdcard . Can't format, so can't mount unformated partitions.
External sd card mounted at /sdcard/external_sd. If sdcard not mounted - external too not mounted. Why can't format? I dont know, or memory chip bricked, or some thing with soldering.
I'm so unfamiliar with recovery mode, thanks for these explanations.
So could that mean my internal SD may fall apart at some point too?
I think phone boot in this order:
1. First Bootloader
2. Second Loader
3. Kernel
In first loader we can boot usually or in Download Mode
In Second - Recovery mode to install update.zip or wipe data, cache and sdcard
I have a similar problem. I have a 4GB external SD-card. It functioned fine until updating the MIUI-mod. After that, only the internal 16GB could be seen by the SGS. Even when I went back to Froyo, the card couldn't be read anymore. It wasn't even detected. Except when removing the SD. The system says then that the card can be removed... strange since it already is removed. Connecting it again, the message goes away. I checked the SD in my cardreader on the pc. Working fine there. I formatted it multiple times (FAT32), but no luck so far. The SD doesn't seem to be broken or should I format it with another clustersize or something?
Try this, on my phone it helped:

But do not copy any files in it. Just reboot after you have created the folder and then your external sd should be recognised.

Internal Storage Problem

Hi. I have a problem with my Internal Storage on Galaxy S. I had to format it via PC, but after formatting I wasnt able to connect my phone to the PC in Mass Storage mode. There was only loading - green android logo. I cant even use my camera, and other apps, it says "No Storage: No external storage available". In Total Commander the space of SD card is shown as "0/0", and I cant do anything on internal SD card. I cant copy there any files, I cant create a new folder. Nothing.
Reboot did not worked for me. Even the full wipe. When I go to the Storage section in settings, I can see there that the internal SD card is not mounted, but when I click "Mount SD card", it only write "Preparing SD card" in status bar for a few seconds, and after it, it is unmounted again.
I also tried to re-flash my ROM using CWM and external MicroSD card, but when I tried, CWM said:
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update...
Checking state of BML/MTD...
assert failed: run_program("/tmp/updater.sh") == 0
E:Error in ".zip location"
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
Any ideas please?
Thank you.
+1 it's happened to me too

I think that the problam is that you formated the sd into the wrong filessystem (e.g. ntfs, fat32).
It happened to me when I turn my external sd into a bootable sd of android to my pc.
try format the sd again using your android, becarefull to not format both internal and external it can happened .
good luck
PS I bought a new sd.

[Q] E: failed to mount /sdcard (no such file or directory)

When I enter recovery mode, selecting apply ´´update from external storage`` the error !!! E: failed to mount /sdcard (no such file or directory) !!!
how to fix this problem ????
There is an external sd card in the phone? Does the sd card work fine when the phone is booted normally?
No. .. when I put the sd enters normal! wanted to access the internal memory by his recovery ... before entering the normal without the sd!
You cannot access external storage without the sd card..
I want to access the internal memory!
Which kernel are you on? Stock kernel seem to see only external sdcard. Some kernel see internal as external and vice versa. You better flash PhilZ kernel which should help.

The option you trying to access in stock recovery "update from external storage" points to he external SD only. You need to use CWM for accessing internal recovery.

Can't mount sd-card or external sd card in recovery

I think I made something very stupid. I wanted to flash a new rom and I entered to CWM recovery and I selected format /storage/sdcard1. After that I can't acces sdcard or external sd. (E:can't mount /storage/sdcard1; E:can't mount /external_sd). Please help me for a solution. Thank you.
Update: I have found a solution by formatting the external card in my laptop. After that I could install zip from external card and flash a new rom. So problem solved.
