[Q] GPS Icon Appearing On Its Own! - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys
I am running Froyo JPP and I have noticed recently that my GPS icon in the menu bar has been randomly appearing and flashing as it does when its connecting, the weird thing is I cant find a GPS app running on the phone at the time.
Anyone got any ideas whats going on with my phone or how to find what app is trying to use GPS?
Cheers

GPS / 3G issue

For some reason, when my Nexus One uses 3G and GPS together (i.e. Google Maps), after the program is closed, the 3G doesn't work anymore. I need to restart my phone for it to work
Any idea what the problem is?
If it helps, I'm on O2 UK
Noone's experienced anything like this?
Are you using any custom roms?

Hello there, please I was just wondering if you can help me with a similar question:
I am experiencing similar problem. I recently rooted my nexus one with modaco rom and my navigation system voice guidance is not working. In the notification bar, it shows gray color. The voice will not talk but the map shows. It says "Searching for GPS" at the bottom screen. It gives all route directions and maps though.
Please where can I go to activate the voice guidance or what exactly do I need to do to correct this?
P.S, the 3g icon is not longer visible either, it only shows "H" or "E"
and the wifi is always turn on but not always connected
Thanks

[Q] My GPS hasn't worked since updating to 2.2 - help! - RESOLVED

Hi,
I got a Samsung Galaxy S here in Australia, rooted it and upgraded from 2.1 to 2.2 I know that GPS worked just fine with 2.1, I was able to walk home and see my position updating very nicely on Google maps
Since updating to 2.2, GPS hasn't worked at all. When I turn it on, and start an application that uses GPS (Navigation, Maps, etc), the GPS icon sits there and flashes back and forth between those two types of icons and I don't get anything on the maps which shows me where I am. I haven't chased this up since upgrading, but it's starting to bug me now
After searching these forums for 'gps not working', I've pulled down the 'GPS test' application and I don't know for sure, but it appears to find one satellite:
PRN SNR Elev Azim Flags
2 11.0 74.0 150.0
But the GPS icon just sits there flashing back and forth.
I may have missed something since upgrading, do I need to do something to the phone to get my GPS working again?
Thanks!
OK, I seem to have fixed the problem I turned on "Use wireless networks" and voila! I now have successful GPS lock and position in my maps
I would have thought that you could use GPS without having "Use wireless networks" turned on!?

Wouldn't call it a successful GPS lock. Since you got it with the mobile networks. (in my case when I use it . the accuracy in my village is about 1000-1500m since the BTS is that much far from me )
So if you get into an area with weak mobile networks, wont help you much .
Wouldnt call this as resolved with "BAD GPS" cuz your GPS still sucks as before (and doesnt work , you just found a workaround that was there also before , 2.2.1 has even some other function for GPS that tries to fix it (or help?) )
But since you can use it now, its ok I guess . OH and there are kinda almost no real fixes for this. Most of SGS GPS suck . There is GPS aids, shutting down wifi, GPS status app, changing the something according to your country.
Ok!
I got the same problem as the user from the post.
GPS worked like a charm on my Galaxy S (NDrive or Google) running 2.1.
I updated it to Froyo 2.2.1 JS7 and since then it doesn`t work anymore.
I can't get a fix.
I did the GPS position test and It locks on 8 satelites. Why the F%CK it doesn`t work anymore?
I am almost going back to Eclair.
Any sugestions?
TY!
So you get a lock when doing the GPS test, but no luck in any other applications? I couldn't get a lock at all until I turned on my wireless as well as the GPS, then it worked for GPS test as well as applications...
I get a lock on 8 satelites on the Location Test with and without "Use Wireless connections".
BUT
I can't get a lock when I am using Google maps, with or without "Use Wireless connections".
I bought the AIDS GPS app on Market, but it did't work neither.

I also installed GPS Aids and paid for it.
This program does automatic changes to your GPS settings.
Maybe it works for you.

GPS problem

Here is the thing...my gps doesn't work after I flashed it to ICS from Alliance Rom (It might not worked even before, but I hadn't been using it). I thought it is a ICS issue, so I downgraded it to 2.3.6 (v3.4. RE from Alliance Rom). I also tried Kingdroid, but without luck. Still doesn't work! The gps icon apperas for a second and then dissapears and apears again and dissapers again... Is is possible that this is a hardware problem? Do u have some other advices? Please! :crying:
Try GPS Status & Toolbox
Something similar happened to me. I tried using GPS Status & Toolbox free from the Play store (outside with no tall buildings around).
After messing round with that and rebooting it started working again...
OK, I will try that today. Still any other ideas and help?
Heey people,
I'm returning here with the same problem, still! I have a new Rocket Rom JB XXLS2 v2. My GPS still doesn't work!
My GPS icon is blinking for a second or two and disapears again. In iGO navigation, it says "looking for satelites" and when icon disaperas it says "turn on GPS". So I guess GPS is enabeling and disabeling somehow.
Please, any advices and help.
Anybody??? Please???

Yes even I have the same problem, every time after stopping SixAxis app my wifi gets stopped as well and I had to restart the phone.
It is because of some compatibility issue with few LG devices - This is what app developer explained and that they are working to fix this
I think it would be better if you can email them as well just your issue and no need of any other details so they fix this asap with more users complaining.

Thanks for Your reply, first of all I had to make sure that it's the bug of the app not only my issue, in such case I will try to contact with developer, because it's the best app and controller for android so it would be nice make it works properly. A bit of offtopic, do You know how to map the menu button on ps3 pad?
