Is CyanogenMOD the best ROM for Droid 1 ? - Motorola Droid and Milestone General

Is it ?
Or do the other custom ROMs use it as base ?
What can you add to CM to make it even more awesome ?

Short Answer: Yes.
Long Answer: The best rom is what you make it, so no.

Depends what you're looking for. Friend of mine says that my rom is faster than Cyanogen (it's on the front page, Feather Rom). So, if you want long lasting battery life while having performance, I'd check that out.

Indeed, this is a development subforum.
broodROM
Cranium
Cryberts ROM
ANDROIDS REVOLUTION
I9001XXKPG 2.3.5 Gingerbread Deodex by Astap for MultiDownloader
CyMod ROM
UCM GingerBread Rom
these are the roms available.
afaik you can configure each one of them with not much effort so that it has the functions of another of the roms by changing kernel or adding or deleting tweaks. if there was a rom which would be "better" there wouldn't be any other roms.
i think they're pretty much the same.
only to broodROM alone the total posts are 2338 so far
where to start and what to read ??
anyway thank you for your replies anyhow.

i dont want to sound rude or "cleverish"
but should this development reach somewhere or it should be develpment for the sake of developing ??? i am a bit confused ??
it shouldnt reach to a rom that it should be stable (or any other criteria that one looks for ??)
i am just wondering ?
have people in programming lost the connection to the real purpose of the items in question , which is to communicate. ?
i dont know guys i am just wondering ??
the big picture is:
everyone develops what he wants to but simultaneously everyone looks at what other developers do and adopt their features or mods for themselves to have a good rom in the end. thats why i think the roms are all kind of the same. you can use a cranium kernel for brood rom and (in some cases) use the broodrom configurator for cranium rom or use thunderbolt for any of our roms. i don't think this is bad.

Yeh that's true, since we only have Samsung ROMS as base ROMS we don't have much choice , also for the configurator, it was actually built for XXKPS but it seems KPG (not sure), KPS, KPU and QK1 use the "same" framework, ZSKP6/7 is other tho
I suggest you try broodROM RC 3 with FeaCore kernel and thunder bolt. It's smoother than CraniumROM (tried) and my battery goes up to two and a half days on broodROM.Haven't tried it on Cranium.Didn't like it from the beginning.

[Q] CM10.1 vs Paranoid vs MIUI

Which of these 3 you would suggest and why?
I am planning to install one of them.
My primary need is long battery life ( i dont know if it depends on ROM )
I saw MIUI design, so cute design is secondary.
Thank You.

If you want LONG BATTERY LIFE, Stock rom is ok, but if you want to try any of this 3, i prefer Tonyp CM10.1, its my daily driver and its awsome battery is ok, ParanoidAndroid its also good, but its cm10, i haven't tried MIUI,
MIUI has huuge battery drain
tony p.'s cm 10.1 is okay but there are still some small bugs (it's a custom rom and they will never be as stable as stock)
i would recommend tony p.'s rom
Stock ROM isn't option because for my phone stock ROM was 2.2 and that newer versions look way cooler.
I found that CAMPS ROM might check that one out.
I think the best way for you is test the Roms out. I use P.A.C.-Man Rom, its okay. That have from all Roms includet.

Nameless is outdated and slow. If you want you can search for the "Stock Unrooted" Rom by Russell, Pretty much what it says.
I would recommend though that you switch to CM10. I did that because hate sense. And a lot more reasons .

Help me choosing a rom please

Hi guys, i finally decided to install a custom rom in my moto g 2014, so here i am asking you what is the best rom, i've seen this http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014/orig-development/rom-cyanogenmod-12-t2993932
and i think it's good, but i've not read all the 370 pages so maybe there are some problems or maybe there is a better rom...
sorry for my bad english and thank you all
You have to find out which is the best ROM for you. What is important for you? That it is stable? Or good battery backup?

If many features are not what you're looking for, go for cm12. If you want as many customizations as possible, I'd recommend you blisspop, carbon ROM or PAC ROM.
I personally like less customization, for examole Slim, tesla are little customized, Aosp is the uncustomized Android nexus like experience, all have nice performance, stable and battery backup
I would recommend you AOSP. It's all clean, ready to provide you the best performance a ROM can give.
But if you want some customizations to play with, I HIGHLY recommend OctOS. This ROM wasn't highlighted as many others around this forum, but I guarantee that you will receive a good performance and a good bunch of custom features
thank you guys, all this answers were unexpected, this is a beautiful community

It definitely is. With custom kernel you have more features like double tap to wake and so on. I'd recommend Optimus kernel or spirit kernel.

Both kernels have a feature list in the thread. Have a look at them and then decide which kernel has the most features that you need, or if you need a custom kernel at all.

One of available versions of RR, phoenix AEX, official AEX, Dirty Unicorns. Today im back to Phoenix AEX, it is a great, stable and fast rom with great developer.

This is so vague, as it tells us nothing about what features you may be looking for, why you want a custom ROM, etc.
If you are just looking for something different, then sure, go for it. Similarly, if certain features of a custom ROM (or ROMs) look attractive, then go for it. There is really no downside, as unlocking the bootloader does not void the warranty. And reversing any changes (returning to stock) is pretty easy as well.
On the other hand, stock OOS is amazingly good. Very little bloat or skinning, but with the right amount (IMO) of customization added. Many folks (myself included) accustomed to flashing custom ROMs to get the most out of their device, have been just happy with stock OOS. But of course, there is always room for improvement, tweaking, etc.
It's an individual choice. Most users of Android devices will never flash a custom ROM. Majority probably don't even know what that means.

First determine what you`re missing in stock OOS, find those features in a custom rom/kernel and flash it. Done

Its not just a rom or kernel that makes great batterylife, mobile reception strenght (modem ) and usage (apps, syncing, gaming yes or no) are vital too.
I'd go with FreedomOS or RRemix. Really LineageOS is mostly placebo battery fixes and an overabundance of customization options. Most of the lineage roms outside of RRemix are very unstable or just kinda useless. Hate to say it cuz some devs put lots of time in but Ive always found worse battery life with the same usage patterns on anything but stock.

Oh. That's bad. I want to use a custom ROM. But if Oxygen is so much better?!?!? :silly:
No good ROM available?
Well Oxygen OS was made for this specific phone in mind remember. So of course it fares best.
I don't know. Perhaps lineage with sultan kernel is an option.
I try to find the best ROM with great battery life, performance, stability, features etc. Any recommendations?
Phoenix is good, Resurrection remix also, but how is battery life and performance? So many features in it...

In the time you've been waiting around for someone to make a decision for you; you could have just unlocked the bootloader and flashed a ROM (of even more than one) and be trying it yourself.
Just make a TWRP backup of the stock ROM (or otherwise, know how to return to stock with the official zip file) and you can easily revert if you don't like the ROM you flashed.
No point in waiting for someone else to tell you what to do. Everyone's opinion and preference is going to be different. Just because someone tells you to flash a ROM or not (or which one), doesn't mean that is the right answer for you as an individual.
Even things like battery life and performance are going to vary drastically depending on how you as an individual use your device (as others have also mentioned). Then also throw in the differences in personal preferences and tastes; and the result is that you can't go by the direction of others. You need to decide for yourself.

Are there big differences in battery life?

Plus others (more than one) on this thread have already answered the question (of battery life on the various ROMs).
No

You're right. It's only so difficult to decide, because here are so many ROMs and kernels and they are all similar and I want a good daily driver and don't want to change it the next years.

I will try lineage with sultanxda kernel. I hear it has amazing battery life.
I also like Resurrection Remix , but I suppose, it has bad battery life, but I'm not sure.
I've tried a handful of roms... they're all just fine in my opinion but I seem to always end up back on the Oxygen stock rom. I root, but that's about it. I just can't get over how well Oxygen OS is running these days compared to my OP2 ... Just flash and try! You won't hurt anything, and if you do you have a 99% chance of fixing it!
