First of all, I have used the search option and only thing I found was for Samsung Vibrant with stock firmware, so I thought of starting a new thread.
I had Froyo XWJPA when I decided to install Busybox (for some tool to change the system fonts, isn't relevant anymore). Used the BusyBox app from the Market, it said that everything was fine, I restart, and the phone just ends up restaring in an endless loop.
So I tried to reflash the firmware, first downgrading to XWJM8, and then upgrading to XWJPA again. But after flashing to JM8 the screen goes blank after displaying the animated bootsplash, and never goes past that black screen. Reflashed with JM8 and ZSJPD and the results are the same.
So, is my phone bricked beyond user repair or I still can do something before sending it back to Samsung? Any help would be much appreciated, thanks in advance.
No your phone is not bricked.
Try this.
Flash jpk with pit 512 and re-partition ticked.
When the phone start go to recovery. Do a factory reset. Wipe the cache and format the internal sdcard.
Restart your phone.
It should work now.
Then flash jpo with no pit and re-partition unticked.
Do the same process in recovery.
You should have a clean working sgs now.

my phone is rooted.....i dont think i'll have warranty..
please help!!!!!
if you have 3 button combo working (download mode working) find some rom which you want to install and do it by odin.
best to find middle package (Richtchofen ones with his instructions, they quite plain and simple)
you could try put only pda part of the rom without repartition
if it will be stock room the same as you have now in your phone your warranty will be untouch

If you were on froyo flash back stock rom (2.1) but first flash 512 pit file with pit, then the phone is,only startable in download mode, then flash stock rom with repartion and, everything ticked..
btw i had oclf by ryan installed...
what should i do?
i do not wanna brick my phone
i downloaded samsung's latest froyo firmware to install?
should i refrain from installing that?

No make sure you flash the stock fw and use the 512 pit and have all options, ticked
Just find and read instruction how to proper repartition phone and flash it in Richtrofen posts (short and simple) which include links to roms.
do as it said and your phone will be working fine. mine was exactly on the same state few times and repartition with stock rom always helped

Hello,
Bit of a droid noob here. I forced my Galaxy S to update to 2.2.1 today through Kies. It wouldn't work at first so I had to erase the M off of the model number in the registry to make it work (I think thats where my problem started).
Now my phone just reboots at the samsung screen or if it is plugged into USB it shows a star on the screen. I am able to get into download mode and use Odin, but even after flashing with a stock ROM from samfirmwares it still boot loops.
Help.
Thanks.
Oh, I think I am in the wrong forum. Q and A would be more appropriate. Sorry...
Okay, been messing around a bit more. Tried to load a different 2.2.1 ROM and now it turns on and flashes the Galaxy S screen and turns off. Not sure if it is getting better or worse.
did you had any lagfix activated while updating? if so, try to a factory reset through recovery mode.
No, I had no mods. It was a stock Bell rom updated through Kies. I managed to boot into recovery mode and it said something about can't mount sd card.

I've just encountered this problem myself (I guess misery loves company Lets see if we can resolve this.
What was the 2.2.1 ROM that you flashed that allowed you to get back into recovery?
What's the specific error msg you're getting when you're in recovery?
Well, I have flashed so many ROMs today trying to fix it, what I can tell you is this: JL2 gives the best results. It gets to the S screen with JL2. I think JL2 lets you get to recovery mode, if not then JH2. Speedmod seems to format the sdcard but doesn't seem to fix the issue.
I am getting this error from recovery mode:
E:Can't/b mount /devlock/stl10
Some people say they have fixed this with various flashes and reflashes and repartition combos. I have had no luck so far.
Apparently there is a way to restore the partiation, but I am not there yet.
Oh, the 2.2.1 ROM I tried was JPU_Complete_Flash_by_Virnik
Most likely the internal SD is dead and you'll have to send the phone in for repairs...
Mine just died (again) too. Same problem.
I just got my i9000m back from repair today... Updated to the official Bell for fun and then tried to go back to jh2 for recovery 2e and now my phone continuously loops at the first GalaxyS screen. I tried to flash many other versions with same results... Tried odin 1.7 and that didn't help. Tried various combinations of re-partition and different versions and nothing is working. Any idea?
WOW! I am back up and running. This appears to be a data partition issue.
Can't say exactly what I did but here it goes. I may have done these things more than once today so you may have to run through this procedure a couple of times.
- Flashed JH2 with repartition and pit 512. (Stuck in bootloop)
- Flashed JL2 with Repartition and pit 512. (Boot to S Screen now)
- Flashed with SpeedMod 12
- Boot to recovery mode
- Format every partition
- Flash to JH2 with repartion and 512 pit. (Back to boot loop)
**** Heres where it was different***
- Flash to JL2 without repartion or pit
Booted up and working.
I know, sounds sketchy, but I must have reflashed my phone with 10 different firmwares today.
After I got it booted up I flashed it with Darky's 7.6 ROM. It gave an error at first about the data parittion but it repaired itself after running lagfix and changing to ext partition.
I may recomend to flash with Darky 7.6 and apply lagfix to rebuild the partitions and see if it fixes this issue right away.
P.S. I was using Odin 1.7 all day and switched to 1.3 in the end. I was using 1.3 when I got it working. Just thought I would add that.

Ahh.. That's where we differ. I'm glad you recovered from your error (too bad it happened to begin with). I'm getting the "E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0" error msg which I am fairly certain means I'm toast. Nothing working so far. I think I'll be testing the new return & $100 credit policy today.
I have seen similar posts where the steps I used helped with your error too. I would give them a try just to see.

When flashing with Odin do you have checked Repartition? Do that and it should work.

This works! You are THE man!
Help please
I have a Galaxy i9000 (UK) unfortunately like many others I decided to use the latest Kies software it went through the upgrade to froyo 2.21 however I had not removed Ryan lagfix or unrooted the phone first.
Now any efforts to reflash fails at the last stage giving error message "Complete (write) operation failed" and the phone will not reboot
Pit and Re-partition works and states "pass" I have tried everything I know and followed lots of other thread suggestions (probably to make it worse)
Thank you in advance for anyone that has the answer, I am not technical enough to play around with any indepth reprogramming so simple answers please
Do a clean flash with an eclair firmware like JM8 with 512 pit and repartition ticked. After flashing go to recovery and do a factory reset and a cache wipe... Have you tried this?
You can also try to format the internal sdcard if its not working and you have a backup of your data.
Or try jpc it is allways a safe bet (for ex. from samfirmware repartition with pit)
Happened often u can fix it no problem ;-) don't be afraid

Thank you
Thank you very much for the JPC suggestion, after a long and painful download 9 I am using a 3G dongle as i am away from home) I managed to firstly flash the Samfirmware.com JPC file using the 803 Pit, using Odin 1.7 and all 3 files, with re-partition ticked - it failed however it did manage to restore the Galaxy start screen
I then unticked re-partition and removed the Pit file and reflashed the 3 files and it finally loaded successfully. after 5 days of trying everything I now have a factory reset phone, hopefully my back ups will work if not I am still really happy so thank you both
JPC update
Good morning guys
I have reconnected to Kies and get the message "this version of the device cannot be updated"
I have just tried to flash I9000XWJS5 without success,
at this stage I should be happy that my phone works again however it would be good to get 2.21 if possible as the standard version lag still drives me crazy
the internal Sd has been reformatted, reset to factory default, wiped user data etc. meesages are either same as before "write fail" or when successful phone wont turn back on.
Do I need a different version for the UK - with O2?
Thanks again in advance
I know you just got over a hairy situation with your phone but I would suggest the Odin and Samfirmware route. I am currently running XWJS5 installed through Odin and it is pretty snappy.
Just be sure not to tick "re-partition", that's what worked for me.

ondi problem
i have a réel problem with my galaxy i9000 , the ondi can't détect it.please help.
and when i enter to the recovery mode is orange with lot of unknown.
Evening,
I'm trying to upgrade from a stock Eclair 2.1 to Froyo.
Recovery is 2e.
I've spent the better part of the last two days reading endless threads here and trying any remotely relevant solutions that were discussed.
The phone simply refuses to boot anything other than Eclair.
Won't run any recovery other than it's stock 2e either.
So far I've tried:
- Stock 2.2 JPC / JPU and 2.3 JPK / JVK with repartition and wipe, using Odin v1.3, 1.52, 1.7, 1.82 and correct pit file.
- 2.3 JPK / JVK with above Odin versions.
- speedmod, CF-Root, darkcore, damianGTO and a few others with Odin and SGS kernel flasher app.
- CWM recovery with SGS kernel flasher app and rom manager app.
- Manually flashing the GT-I9000 2.5.1.2 CWM recovery, which seems to let me into the CWM recovery menu if I "apply update.zip" twice, but recovery is still stock 2e on reboot.
- WIPE versions of popular roms that include a kernel with Odin/CWM.
With all of the above the result is the same. Just shows a the Galaxy S logo for hours and hours. It will not go into recovery mode either, only download mode.
If I flash any stock eclair such as JM4, JM8 or JD4, the phone boots Eclair just fine and I can get 2e recovery again.
I've checked that it's not sim locked with the *#724....# code, which said that everything was unlocked.
Not many hairs left to pull. Hopefully some of the gurus that hang around here would be kind enough to point me in the right direction.
Thank you for your time,
oldseeker

use this to successfully upgrade to Froyo..
cheers
Backup your internal sd storage. (Photo's, music etc.)
Then give it a format. Then try to flash again. Do not worry about restoring all the android folders and such after the format. All of the needed folders will be re-created.
Try taking it to a service centre and ask them to update it to Froyo for you. They might know something we don't.
Dear oldseeker,
Quite a coincidence but I've had a similar problem today with my dad's SGS.
The phone would go into a bootloop if I'd flash froyo or gingerbread.
He had eclair on it and needed an update badly to use his apps.
How I eventually fixed it was, by flashing Eclair JM8 with the pit file from samfirmware (with repartition ticked), and after that was finished, I flashed Darky's
Ressurect Edition 10.1 again with repartition ticked, and everything works now as it should.
Hope this works for you!
Greetz,

I've been trying to reflash my Bell Galaxy S from not booting up without success. I have tried Odin and Heimdall no less then 10 times with different suggestions in this forum. And I went from getting the "Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1" when the phone first loop boot to not booting at all after first Odin, then to "Can't mount /dev/block/stl10" - "Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1" after another Odin.
After many Odin and Heimdall flashes now all I got is just a round inanimated "sun-ray" with the usb cable plugged-in or the Samsung splash screen without the usb cable.
I don't want to proceed further because I think the solutions I got from other posts are not specific enough for my situation.
I have read in many posts that you MUST disable lagfix before flashing with Odin or Heimdall. This I did not do because my phone started to loop-boot with the lagfix enabled.
Someone even mentioned here you can't flash your Galaxy too many times as every flash is registered in the phone, or you will void your warranty.....
My phone: Bell Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000M. Updated from Eclair to Froyo via Kies. I do not know the exact Froyo version but my mental image of the "About phone" info screen seems to agree with UGJK3. Rooted and lagfix enabled while running Froyo.
Firmware packages I have tried back and forth so far:
s1_odin_20100803.pit
DBdata.rfs.tar (and I followed this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=953339)
I9000UGJH2
I9000UGJK3
I9000UGJL2 (last thing I did on Odin and flash with re-partition)
And I did check the re-partition box in some cases when flashing with Odin.
Hope I can get more help here so that I don't damage the phone any further.....
Did you unlagfix before the update? My guess (but I'm no expert) would be that your partitions are still in ext4 which isn't recognized by stock firmware. Could try flashing the an appropriate kernel for your rom which supports the format.
Also, when I have problems after flashing I usually flash back to my previous known working configuration. In this case it would be some eclair rom, and the kernel which supports your lagfix.
odin
find your stock rom from ramad, flash with odin 3 files with repartition and pit.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1102881
no problem to flash in odin with ext4 system.
its important to open odin and insert the files before you connect the phone, also take out the battery before you enter download mode can do the trick.
Removing lagfix isn't mandatory if you are using
re-partition option, since it's setting up all partitions and formatting 'em also. I have many times flashed with Odin without removing lagfix and never had any problems regarding it..

Thanks for everyone's suggestions.
I only applied lagfix after I updated from eclair to froyo. There was no further update after that. So my last working firmware should be a froyo. The bootloop was not caused by any software update process. I dropped the phone and the battery came off. I rebooted the phone (most icons missing from home screen after this boot) but the camera application gave me an error msg when I used it so I rebooted it again. It started to bootloop after this reboot.
I couldn't get the phone in the download mode without the phone battery. And if I get to download mode with the battery, plug the usb, then remove the batter, the phone turned off. so not having the phone battery is not an option to me.
So I did too more reflashes, screen shots attached:
(1) UGJG8
(2) UGKG3
The phone still looped with the circular bars.
I'm wondering if I should check the Phone Bootloader Update box at Odin. Or should I tried Darky Resurrection Edition rom?

I took your suggestion and flashed a rom that supports ext4. I flashed it with Darky's Resurrection 10.2. Now I got a boot menu after the reboot. But I got "failed to mount /sdcard (file exists)"
