I have found several bugs in Kies but can't find any contact information as to where to send my reports. Anyone who knows?
Latest bug found:
When syncing Outlook contacts to the phone, the First Name and Surname swap places, so all contacts on the phone end up backwards. Google show that I'm not alone with this problem.
This issue is new to me. I know for a fact that I got a correct sync the first time I used it (approx 2 months ago), 'cause I remember that I've scrolled down to the letter 'E' to find "Emma Foobar" (where Emma is a first name).
I have upgraded the phone from Eclair 2.1-update1 to the latest Froyo 2.2, and Kies has been updated two or three times during this period. So either one, or a combination of both, must have introduced this bug.
It's Samsung, so /dev/null seems appropriate...

I sent a comment to the Swedish Samsung organization (via a web form).
I have no Idea if that did it, but yesterday, a new version of Kies was released and now contacts are synchronized correctly.
Only a minor bug is left:
The alphabet list to the right is still based on Sirnames even though the settings state that the display should order using First name. So even though I have contacts like "Emma Smith", I have a dash instead of an 'E' in the list.

Hi all,
Last week i flashed my i9000 with the froyo jpo build, since doing this my exchange mail is so slow. When i open the email program now my phone hangs, eventually it comes back to life but i still cannot navigate the email. The scrolling stills and i almost never get emails to open.
Is this a known bug; and is there a fix?

It's a known Froyo problem with exchange accounts, only a lagfix will fix it.
Also, set the exchange account to "Push" to prevent a wake-lock which drains the battery
Can you advise me on how I can root froyo, it seems that all the methods and apps I have found are only for 2.1!

I have come across your message via google and have almost thrown away my galaxy mainly because of this terrible performance. I used to do my mail via my iPod touch 2nd generation which still outperforms even as 'old device' the galaxy. I updated 2 weeks ago via Samsung Kies after long waiting and tracking the news about the foreseen froyo performance benefits. However, apart from people mentioning Touchdown or K9 as alternative for (corporate) email, it 's still unclear to me how to solve this specific issue other then using the Galaxy as mobile accesspoint for my iPod touch. A bit stupid for such a device.
Besides this, after the update I loose icons like nu.nl on my homescreen after rebooting for sure but also without..
I would love if we can get directions how to solve this in a way that I do not 'blow up' my device. Yes, I have read - not done yet - about Odin, unrooting etc. but I, like akaVintz, need a more 'proven solution guide' because the lack of experience in the Android environment.
On 2.1 I used to have and Exchange and a pop3 email account set up and all worked fine.
When I updated to 2.2 the whole mail client became very very slow and many times it used to hang and many cases it would force close the email app. I simply did a factory reset and this corrected all the issues. I didn't really loose anything as my contacts etc etc are syncd with exchange I just had to download and reinstall some apps
I to have done the factory reset, like you say it's not really a problem when all your contacts are in exchange, it just doesn't seem to of cured the slowness. I really just want to apply what ever I need to sort the lag out on 2.2. Everything I have found refers only to 2.1.i have downloaded apps and they won't work for me. Please help...¿

Maybe is a service relating to a third party app that might be causing it. Do a bit of trial and error stopping and restarting services. I found one of my ip widgets was causing a lot of slow down once removed I got back to 2.1 speed.
Email performance 6 weeks later Galaxy S 2.2
As suggested I did a factory reset and it looked this corrected the mail performance issues. Having added only a few apps in the meantime (and moved to external SD card where possible), and killed any widget on the main screens I again suffer from lags (force kill email) and Android BSD instead of windows BSD. Difference is Black and Blue. Having Black Screens of Death in 2011 is not very user friendly. Reading further about something like z4root etc. makes me feel like switching to the IPhone or giving it a change. No idea of the email works better then. Apart from that, comparing my 2,5 years old ipod touch email app which does HTMl flawless with this Android 2.2 exchange client is like Apple was already 5 years ahead a that time. Anyway, it does not perform at all, did a side by side test with a HTC desire which theoratically should have been slower....but not....drives me to the last option of rooting. But wich one? So to start the weekend I hope some can share their (rooting) experience giving my Android experiences with email.
Just rooting won't make Exchange email any better. Flashing a newer ROM (which will bring root in the process) will. JPO is considerd an old ROM by now. We are at JPY by now, which is a lot better, lagfixes are no longer needed to have a fast Galaxy.
Flashing is really simple with Odin, just make sure you can get into download mode before attempting flashing and there is almost no way to mess up your Galaxy S for good. All original ROMs are available at samfirmwares.com, i suggest to read up on there, or read the Android Development subforum (which can be intimidating i admit)
I am uncertain if JPY have any improvements on this but I encounter the same problem in a stock I9000 ROM
- Click on the exchange inbox, took 3 minutes to go to the list of email
- Click on email , took 3-4 minutes and you may see the email or the email application will crash.
I was super frustrated by it as it a company mail system that I rely on, so I root the phone and get lagfix... currently with around 108 mails in inbox...opening every mail is a breeze, also facebook and android market load much faster too.
I am using a I9000ZSJPE s.w as its a Hong Kong Rom
Much better email performance with JS3 the dutch jpy update
Yesterday i flashed with odin to this samsung pre-released stock update after installing the 3 button recovery/download fix. The performance increase is indeed extreme good and to my surprise the email client suddenly supports html to a degree i can live with now. i cite someone who wrote that obviously samsung released a great piece of hardware but to early for delivering good software. anyway i really can recommend this version 2.2.1 after a lot of frustration.
Hi all,
I've updated my Galaxy Tab 10.1 (Wi-Fi) to a new version (the one with a custom Sumsung skin) and now the Calendar app (which I use quite heavily) is partially broken: setting a different "First day of week" does nothing in week view (the month few does appears to display correctly). It's quite a problem as in my region, Sunday is not only the first day of week formally - but also an actual first working day, and the half-sized space at the end of the calendar doesn't really help, even leaving along the fact that it does have to respect the setting and display it before Monday. If anyone curious - I've attached the screenshots to demonstrate the problem - one from week view and one from month view, both with Sunday set as the first day of week. I tried to report a bug to Sumsung but couldn't find any way to do so - Samsung Galaxy Tab support page appears lack any kind of feedback besides writing a review. Does anybody know a way to get a bug report report to them?
Anyway, the real problem is that I'm unable to replace the app with the previous one. I though it should be easy - found an stock Honeycomb Celendar.apk, but when I try to install it, after it asks for permissions and I click "Install" it just says "Application not installed" without any additional info. So how do I get the damn thing replaced with a working copy? Or maybe there is another way to fix the problem I have?
I am a fresh owner of a Note and am overal extremely happy with the device after my first week of use.
Many thanks also for this great forum, which has helped me discover many tips and tricks that would have taken me a very long time to discover myself!
I have however stumbled upon a very annoying missing feature in the built-in calendar, the S Planner, that apparently has not been discussed by others yet.
An extremely handy option which I used all the time in the standard Android calendar of my now retired Motorola Milestone, was the standard link between the location of events and Google Maps.
Once a calendar item including correct address was entered in my Google calendar, either trough a browser, my phone or even synced Outlook account at work, I only needed my phone to make sure I could easily get there.
In the standard Android calendar you can just click on the location of any event and Google Maps is automatically fired up with this location as the destination.
In the S Planner this link between the location of events and Maps is apparently missing. Which for me is a huge miss. Of course you can start editing the calender entry, copy the address and paste it in Google Maps.
But the big advantage of smartphones, at least for me, is the seamless integration of its many different capabilities.
This is in fact such a huge miss that I really would prefer to use the standard calendar. Which unfortunately can not simply be installed from the Android Market.
I really hope others in this forum have already stumbled upon this problem and found a solution. Maybe I am just missing something, even though I have searched quite a bit already.
And I really hope Samsung solves/improves this very quickly and/or even better, gives us at least the choice for the standard Google calendar. After all choice is Android's greatest strength.
Solved ... by SAMSUNG
Just a quick reply to my own post in case someone else would be confronted with the same problem and stumble upon this thread.
After receiving two consecutive OTA updates which brought my phone from KK5 to KL7 and then immediately afterwards to LA4, it appears the issue has been solved and Samsung incorporated a link between the location of events in the S-Planner and Google Maps.

Map integration - question
Hi, I have the same problem that you did - how did you get your phone to update? I regularly check for updates with Kies and it refuses to upgrade to the firmware version that you mentioned. Any advice you can offer would be appreciated. Thanks.
Hi.
I'm new to these forums and have had a good look for threads relating to the three issues I'm having but haven't come up with much directly relevant to them. Hopefully someone will point me in the right directions. For the record I'm using the latest CM from nadlabak, 7.2.4e.
1. First issue is the camera not focussing bug that I have seen references to but mostly old ones where it was meant to be fixed in an old update. My camera is terribly blurry, though once in a while, it will be quite sharp. It doesn't correspond to the 24.5 day cycle that the original bug was meant to have. Changing the date on the phone has no effect on the problem (though I'm not sure if it's meant to). Is this a problem that some milestones just have permanently/
2. Recurring events in the stock Calendar app don't seem to work. When I try to create one it says that the event is created but then there is nothing in the day/time slot that shows up. Changing an event from a one-time event to a recurring one results in the event being deleted as well. Anyone else experiencing this?
3. Setting the phone to automatically use date and time information from the mobile network doesn't work. I'm pretty sure this used to work on the phone, perhaps before I installed Cyanogen on it, but that's a while ago now so I'm not sure.
Any help anyone could give me on the above would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Bill.
Hi Bill,
You have some really strange problems. I've never heard of them.
Try out some 3rd party camera app from Play Store or a different rom. Maybe the camera issue is hardware related.
I could only test the calendar from CM10, but it worked fine.
I checked CM7 two weeks ago and time/date worked.
What was your previous rom?
Thanks for the reply. Previous rom was an older build of CM7, something like a year old. All of the problems were present then as well. I've tried another camera app (Camera 360 I think) in the past and it made no difference, but I'll try again.
When you say that calendar was fine in CM10, is that specifically with recurring events. I've found since my original post that it appears to be a display issue, as when I sync to iCal (I'm on a Mac) via Syncmate the events do turn up in iCal. I just can't see them in the stock Calendar.
Bill.
I'm using Google Calendar and have a plenty of recurring events in it. They are in perfect place on my Calendar app. I also created one recurring event from my phone, just for testing your issue, and it worked fine.
I think you should take a look at this: http://support.google.com/calendar/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=99358
Would anyone be interested in finding the solutions to the problems below as a "job" and giving me a price for the solutions?
(1 - Data Roaming Nag)
Recently upgraded from HTC desire running 2.2 (I think?) to Razr I which is now running 4.12, before if I'd be abroad I'd simply get a text from my service provider about the rates, I always had data roaming enabled as it's a business phone and only €2 for the first 50mb which is more than enough for a days use. So I set the razr up in much the same way, albeit on 4.12 but I had data roaming enabled and when I first got connected to a foreign network it prompted me about data roaming, which I thought would be just a once off for the first time since I already had it enabled, I clicked yes to acknowledge it anyway and continue using data roaming which was fine, but then it seemed as soon as I dropped out of coverage and came back, the notification would come up again. It actually got so frequent that the notification was on my screen almost every time I unlocked the phone and it got pretty annoying.
Has anyone else experienced this and found out a way to disable the popup? I'm not sure if it's android or motorolla related?
(2 - Enable USB Mass storage)
I've seen mods of this but I don't think they are compatible with 4.12, if anyone has a solution or could edit the settings.apk to enable it and post it that would be great
(3 - Contact Sync Issue)
My contacts are not syncing properly. I've over 2,700 contacts as it's a business phone. I save all to my gmail account under different groups (my contacts/business/sport) and never had sync issues on my old desire but I'm having issues with this. When I check the account in settings, sync is fine for everything (calendar, gmail etc) but contacts and the last successful sync is days and days ago. The error just reads "Sync is currently experiencing problems, it will be back again shortly", which obviously isn't the case. I've tried "contact sync fix" app and although it works, I don't like using such a solution and would of course much rather it to just work as it's supposed to. Also I'm getting a "Sync - too many contacts deletions" notification sometimes that I'm not sure what to do with, when I click it it comes up saying "Deletion limit exceeded" and then says there are 8 deleted items for contacts account [email protected]. What do you want to do?" giving me the options: Delete the items - undo the deletes - do nothing for now. I don't know what to do so just choose "do nothing for now" contacts seem to be still intact but I'm very worried about losing any.
(4 - Space between numbers)
I'm not sure if this is a new thing with the newer androids, a dialler issue or what, but the phone is automatically adding gaps between numbers when I try and save. I've a lot of numbers and prefer to keep them all the same formatting, which is, for example, +353871234567, if somebody rings me, sometimes it comes up as +353871234567 which is grand, other times it might come up as 0871234567 so all I used to need to do was delete the 0 and add a +, now when I edit the number, spaces are automatically added and it shows up something like 087 123 4567. This used to only happen with landline numbers and then sometimes if you tried to delete say the space between 3 and 4, it would delete the space AND the 3!
I thought it was an issue with Go Contacts/Dialler EX but it's happening on EX Dialler too even though I've clicked off the area code setting, so I'm thinking it might be an android issue? Anyone managed to sort it out? I may have found something to do with it from Android Development, but I haven't a clue if that can be changed as a mod for a specific phone?

Thanks for letting me know. Do you think there will be a solution, ever?
I think I solved the contact sync issue, I chose the "undelete" option and then I noticed 8 new "my contacts" groups in gmail itself (from desktop) so I deleted them groups from gmail and I think it's ok now. I also sent Go contacts/dialer to system app (because of a missed call issue) so I'm not sure if this contributed, I also deleted the "contact sync fix" app. Hopefully the issue doesn't resurface.
OP this>>>>Job/Payment offer! Is not what XDA is about, now you willing to "donate" for items you are looking to resolve it different. BTW moved as this does not belong in the Development Threads.
That's fair enough, thanks So, donations offered for solutions folks!
