360° rotation - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm running cognition 2.4.1, it has a rotation on the home screen! The actual home screen will rotate when the screen it turned landscape. The other cogs dont do this, even the newest one(11/18/10). I asking if we can get a full 360 degree rotation for the screen, like the jailbroken iPhone. That's just cool! Useful as well when using it in the car on landscape.

Check Settings=>Display and see if auto rotate screen is checked.
You can also use LauncherPro to achieve the same.

or you can simply pull down the task bar, and hit the auto rotate button

I actually like the home screen rotating. I'm just wondering if there is a way to do full 360° rotation. With the plug on the top, I could turn the phone upside down when in the car. I love it.

It's launcher dependant. Pull the launcher .apk from whatever ROM and plug it into another.

[Q] Lockscreen orientation on Serendipity

Currently Using Serendipity 5.5 and I realized after mounting the phone in my car that the lockscreen stays portrait no matter what. I distinctly remember either the stock rom or Paragon (the only two other roms I've used) had a rotatable lockscreen. Is this not available in Serendipity or is there some config I'm missing? Thanks!
This isn't supposed to be some sort of snide comment, but I'm not sure I get the idea of a rotatable "lock" screen. Lock disables the touch interface, and shuts down the display. Mounted in a car, you don't have to disable the touch interface, and if your display is off, there's no point to rotating it.
To move on to what I think you want, Serendipity (with Go Launcher EX for me) does allow rotation of the home screen. You can set the display to be always on when plugged in. So you can just display the home screen of your choice. You can have a lot of home screens with Go Launcher, so you can create one of your choice with car-type apps.
On the other hand, the "clock" app that comes with Serendipity is what the Samsung Home Dock was supposed to be (with the possible exception of having no choice of folder for the slideshow, not that I intend to use it). It also rotates. And the setting is for the display to be on at all times.
I found it by accident. In case any of you haven't seen the clock app yet... The last image is with the dim option (pressing the "sun" in the upper right).
Danger...
You should not operate a smartphone while drinking and driving!!!
Ok, for real... I don't know the answer to your question because I drive a 91 BMW that does not even have an AUX port... So I suck, but... I would like to take this time to announce my brotherhood in the 10+ poster club!!! Here it is, time to celebrate!!!

screen rotation app

Just FYI, I was trying to find an app that would rotate the screen back and forth for me rather than rely on the top button b/c often I don't want the keyboard to pop up at the same time. "Rotate D" in the marketplace does not work on my SuperFroyo install, however this app does and now has a place on my home page:

Make sure you have auto-rotate turned on in your settings. Works well with Bar Control to put it in the task manager so you can pull it down quickly and switch to landscape w/o changing apps.

Then install another launcher, you don't have much choice lol
This sucks. My One X had a native rotated mode so when you used something like Rotation Locker to force it while in a 3rd party dock everything looked fine. When you rotate the M7 you can see parts of the adjacent screens. It doesnt make much sense because HTC sell the phone with a nifty little case that lets the phone sit on your desk in landscape but then you have to turn your head to use it?! Am I missing something here? guess Ill just have to put it in Car mode which seems to be the only landscaped aspect mode the phone supports.
*edit* Turns out putting it in car mode on the desktop works quite well now you can add whatever apps you want to the launcher...

Any way to hack 'n trick the phone to "think" it's in Car mode or on media link in order to enable landscape?

Well the phone will go into landscape if you are holding it that way and have auto rotate enabled. Then you can just turn car mode on by hitting the 'car' icon in the apps menu...
Not in Sense or Blinkfeed, it won't.....unless you're saying to enable car mode first.
Edit....tried car mode (never used it before)...it's more like an app dock. I'm looking to put Sense in landscape. Oh well.

Home screen did not rotate

Is it possible to set the home screen to rotate? I use the original rom and with "rotate screen" - ON , but the home screen did not rotate.
Currently on stock firmware there isnt a function to make the the home interface rotate. A dev could possibly make a mod, but development is slow. one other thing you can try is try another home launcher.
It does rotate when using the docking station though, so the functionality is already there. Just the lockscreen does not rotate.
Thanks for the replies. I have the phone for one day and still learning what to do and to setup.

I think also the lockscreen will be easily able to rotate, with the pincode turned and screen locked try to take a picture, the press manual mode, it will ask for the pin, for ~2s the lockscreen is perfectly aligned in horizontal then it rotates.
I don't get why Sony should prevent homescreen and lockscreen to rotate when seems they are both built to do that.
try "Screen Rotation Steuerung" App -> set to auto -> voila you have rotation Homescreen! (Damn not ootb)

[Q] autorotate landscape with rotating back home recent

How do I get the back home recent bar at the bottom of the screen to rotate as well when I flip to landscape it stays on the side... I've seen pictures of it on the bottom with apex launcher I just can't get my dock and back home recent buttons to rotate as well
ok so apparently thats tablet behavior. tablets have the ability to switch to a phone config (soft keys stay top or bottom and rotate in place) which would be the behavior i described.... so basically it would have to be done at the source code level. bummer..... it really should be an option imo =\
