Still No Froyo - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Whoever can help with this I will offer sexual favours to,
I purchased my galaxy s online about 2 months ago. I have a sneaky suspicion that its locked to CarphoneWarehouse but i'm not sure. I have an o2 sim card in but I still cannot upgrade to froyo via kies. A family member has the same phone and got his instore and has just upgraded to froyo and he's with carphonewarehouse on o2. Is there a reason I cannot upgrade mine? I've waited for so long all I want is a bit of Froyo.
Thanks

Also, I tried the kies hack a month ago but it just upgraded me to 2.1 update. I dont know if this unrooted the phone and has made it illegible for the upgrade.

i dunno about the sexual favour so i will try to help u for free. ;-) you can check your version and if it's possible to upgrade it officially by checking the registry or u can bypass all that by just altering the registry and patch a dll.
do you have the latest kies?
is carphonehouse a network or just a seller?(sorry i'm not from england)
if u don't find the topics i will post the links
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App

and please check if u can go into download mode bevor flashing....

i've just re-downloaded kies so i will try that but checking the registry to see if i'm able to upgrade sounds good, how do i do that? Then if these both dont work i'll be happy to change the regirst and download the patch,
Thanks for replying.

Nooooo, I still cant through kies. Useless software.

I have an unbranded, unlocked i9000 on vodaphone in the UK, and I had a similar problem after trying to hack the registry to download the Noric version of 2.2 last month. Instead, I got a 'updated' 2.1, and whever I tried using Kies to upgrade, I get the message 'this device cannot be updated', even after hacking the registry again.
The problem, as explained in this article (http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Samsung_Galaxy_S_Series&oldid=10462), seems to be that my copy of Kies is too new. I suspect you might have the problem. Go to the link and download an older version of Kies (1.5.3.10093_82), then with Kies running and your phone connected to the PC, change the registry values to:
LocalVer: 1.5.3.10103.100
SoftwareRevision: I9000XXJF3/I9000SWC/I9000XXJF3/I9000XXJF3
ProductCode: GT-I9000HKDXEU
HIDSWVER: I9000XXJF3/I9000SWC/I9000XXJF3/I9000XXJF3
Close the registry and check for phone firmware upgrade using Kies. It worked for me.
My phone is now:
Model number: GT I9000
Firmware version: 2.2
Baseband version: I9000XXJPP
Kernel Verson: 2.6.32.9 [email protected]#1
Build number: Froyo:XXJPO
The registry values are now:
SoftwareRevision: I9000XXJPO/I9000OXAJPO/I9000XXJPP/I9000XXJPO
ProductCode: GT-I9000HKAXEU
HIDSWVER: I9000XXJPO/I9000OXAJPO/I9000XXJPP/I9000XXJPO
Lastly, can anyone tell me if I've got the stock UK rom, and whether GT-I9000HKAXEU is the UK country code, as I cannot find this product code in the database anywhere.

you could try this on ur own risk

How is the froyo update for the SGS distributed?

I just recently switched from iphone to the SGS and yeah its all kinds of awesome. I bought a bell phone, unlocked it and using it with rogers. So i was wondering how the 2.2 update would work, i know its not out yet but does anyone know how the update works? Yep noob to all this.

It will most likely go through kies first then odin users who downloaded the roms. I don't think samsung does over the air updates.

Ah i see. I havent installed kies. So it would be directly from samsung hey? Thanks much for that info!

Samsung push there updates through their Kies program. Once it's released you will also be able to flash through Odin.

Hey there. To answer your question, no. You don't need to upgrade anything before the Froyo version is officially released. Having said that, Samsung seems to have been working behind the scenes to fix quite a few bugs notably the GPS issue. So, it is always a good idea to upgrade to a newer firmware.
Again, upgrading or not really is a very subjective thing. Most people decide what firmware to use based on their application for their phones. If you are happy with the overall performance of the phone, stick to the current version. If you are not, upgrade to the latest version indicated by Kies and that should be it. Your choice really....
Cheers....

kies always shows you the latest firmware available for your device.. so dossent matters if you upgrade to this jh2 firmware or not.. in the future if they release the froyo firmware kies will show you a notification that a latest version of operating system is available...
now talking about you should or shouldnot upgrade to this firmware.....
as skiddhard said it depends on what you think of your current firmware.. but if kies shows you that an upgrade is available that means there might be some changes and improvement in the firmware that is released.. but it may or may not be usefull to you... firstly do you feel a major kind of lag in ur current firmware?? if yes then you should definitely go in for the firmware upgrade because the newer version of 2.1 upgrades are definitely faster than the previous once
Thanks Guys. I ended up updating it, i havent noticed any difference, so thats good in my books *phew* in the future, if it aint broke, dont fix it.

[Q] T-Mobile Germany I9000BOJF1 Build ECLAIR.BOJG3 Download / re-stock

Hi folks,
I really hope that I did not miss a post with this topic. But I own the SGS i9000 since a few days and I am wondering if there is a possibility to perform a re-stock after a flash to e.g. Froyo.
My Versions shown by the phone:
PDA: I9000BOJG3
Phone: I9000BOJF1
CSC: I9000GDTMJG1
Is it possible to reflash this with Kies? I am asking in case of needing service.
Thanks for the help!
Regards,
Gandalf
Sorry, the Stock Firmwares from Providers are not accessable, exception Vodafone. If you had Vodafone you could download a stock firmware from samfirmwares.
Thank you. what a pity then.
Have to take the risk our wait..

Sadly no. Not really. I found some BO coded image but did not test it yet.
Will look into it some time.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=786827 is the nearest that might apply.
One can only hope that once Froyo is out (branded) the Kies Update "hack" can be applied.
Otherwise lets hope that Telekom Deutschland (TMO) has goodwill if it needs service.

[Q] getting andriod 2.2 on my xxjm1

since kies does not allow my to get it by default I was wondering how can I get it without bricking my phone.
I bought this on orange, strangely enough it was unlocked.
it says baseband version I9000XXJM1
at the moment its running Eclair, how can I get it to run 2.2?
regards
sadly no reply so far. it might be the way I phrase the question
basically I want to get official English galaxy S on my UK mobile.
I dont know if its possible, or how
Yes it is possible to do and really quite simple.
I also have the Galaxy S on Orange UK and so does my wife also with basband I9000XXJM1
I have succesfully managed to get the official 2.2 onto not only my own and my wifes phone but also my friends LOCKED tmobile.
Every time it went through smoothly without a hitch.
Go to this link and follow the instructions EXACTLY.
It is a very good guide and makes the process very simple.
Let me know if it all goes through ok.
IMPORTANT!!! when the phone reboots it will stick at the glowing S for a good few minutes. DO NOT think your phone has crashed and turn off or take out the battery. Just be patient and it will reboot to a nice new froyo enabled phone.
Each time i have done it all apps and data have remained intact.
Enjoy.
Any more questions dont be afraid to ask
thanks zolah for your help.
this is sorted now.
Was yours directly bought from orange? Because mine was locked and branded with Orange jm1 firmware on it.

[Q] No Froyo for 02 customers in Rep. of Ireland

Deeply envious of you lucky people out there with Froyo.
As the title of this posts indicates I'm looking to more knowledgable heads than my self for advice.
Those of us using the Galaxy S on 02 in Ireland are being jerked around by the company with all kinds of unbelievable excuses as to why they won't release the Froyo upgrade ( you should see the anger and frustration on the 02 customer forum from users!).
My phone details are:
Firmware v. 2.1-update 1
Baseband v. I9000xxjf3
Kernel v. 2.6.29
Eclair
I'm currently rooted using 2.1 but need the 2.2 upgrade urgently: can any kind soul tell me is there a working firmware upgrade that I can install that would allow my phone to operate in Ireland ie. one that doesn't rely on the official KIES route?
If I can get this working I can then pass the info onto the other pour souls being lied to on the 02 customer forum.
Thanks people.
Have you even looked on the developers section? Theres a ton of ways to get froyo.

There are many threads on here covering this subject, search for "registry Hack".
All this does is to make Keis think that your phone is a generic european phone and you will get the Froyo update.
Best of luck.
Kies Registry Patcher 1.7.0.0, patch registry on latest Kies
You could use that and flash to the O2 UK Froyo if you liked!
Thanks chaps.
Hadn't seen Ireland specific info on other threads so needed to double-check flashing with uk\european version was ok.
Appreciate your advice.

[Q] Missing language SGS I9000

Hey guys!
I am pretty new to this forum, but have been hanging arround for a while.
And i gotta say that it has helped me with pretty much!
But now I have a problem with my phone, and i cannot find anything in the forums about it..
Any help would be appreciated.
So.. Yesterday my phone was giving me a hard time to boot.. For some reason CWM did not show the backups on my rom and so i couldnt restore it.
I downloaded the official I9000XXJPY 2.2.1 EU and flashed with odin, and my phone could now boot again..
However, today I noticed that there are languages missing in the phone, say for example input languages for samsyng keypad.
I have gone nuts searching the net about this..
Is there any way i can get these languages back without rooting and going backways. Is there any firmware that have the languages?
I would love it if someone has a solution to my problem.
I still want it to be a clean rom and so, so that I can update later on with KIES.
Speaking about KIES. When I connected the phone it says
"This wersion of the device cannot be updated" [1]
Why is that?
Also, not that in the picture it says (KOR) [2]
Why?
I would be greatful for any kind of help!
Thanks in advance!
NOTE: Image is attached because of first post, i must have at lease 8 post to have an url.
It reads KOR because I believe you have a Korean csc flashed. In addition, it is saying your phone can't be upgraded because it is not detecting the stock firmware for your region. Therefore if you want to use kies you need tobuse one of the spoofing methods found on XDA or find the right firmware for your region.
As for language, that comes from framework which makes me even more convinced you have the wrong firmware flashed. Later if you install a custom, deodexed rom flashed you can add languages just by flashing a theme that includes the language you want.

Speaking about KIES. When I connected the phone it says
"This wersion of the device cannot be updated" [1]
Why is that?
Two reasons One the obvious no update ie 2.3 is not on the servers .
the other reason is Kies cannot read the firmware product code and hardware ID and match to an update.
EG original firmware O2 UK product code xxxxx hardware id fffff firmware 2.1
Finds a match and downloads 2.2
Flashed stock rom its not the one supplied with the phone so .
product code ddddd hardware id ffff firmware 2.1
no match product code different firmware not from the network branded phone .
Stock is not original its Samsung firmware before the network supplier customises/brands it .
Thats why you keep a copy of your original firmware safe .

Thank you for your reply..
That is odd because I downloaded the firmware from SamFirmware under the Europe category.
Do you know where i can get the right firmware for JPY, if I live in sweden?
Thanks

When that is the case kies lists both your firmware and the current firmware (which match) and says that you have the latest firmware available.

I would check any android sites in Swedish. Sites will often have the firmware for the carriers in their country.

Thanks guys.. I'll dig a little after swedish sites and post the outcome here..
Ok.. So I found the scandinavian version and flashed it, and it is working flawlessly.
Regarding the phone being debranded, can this affect me in a bad way or is it just something minor?
Thanks guys, for helping me out!

Samsung warranty yes Sellers warranty no its not their firmware .
Technically no warranty but in practice stock firmware as opposed to original does not seem to be a problem for repair .
