I picked up a T-mobile Tab when I was in US and I want to use it in Europe with all European functions. Can I flash it to become equal to an European sold model?
Do I need to get the SIM unlock done first?
After I have done this, can I use KIES to do normal upgrades?
Thanks!
Bump
Still interested if anyone have flashed a US-Tab to Euro and then got it to work with Kies (doing upgrades etc).
I'm aware of the differences in modems support, but that is not an issue for me.
follow the steps
I have bought a T-Mobile tab a week ago and i have changed the Firmware with the European version to enable the dialer and then unlocked the phone with the hex edit by rotohammer first post.
So here is what you need to do
1) flash a euro firmware (get the latest from samfirmware.com)
and follow the instructions carefully.
2) unlock the device using the hack provided on the post here

Samsung SHG T849
I am a newbie. If I am in the wrong forum please redirect me.
My problem is that while flashing my t-mobile Samsung G tab using odin3 the power in my house went out and I am now bricked.
I get a logo that shows a graphic of a phone 2 dots and a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in the middle, another 2 dots and a graphic of a PC.
When I try to get the download mode I cannot but I could get into a mode "Power reset or unknown upload mode" when I press both the 'up' and 'down' volume key at the same time as when I press the 'power on' key.
The logo would recycle every few seconds even if I try to power off.
I tried to let the battery run out and when I recharge the tab. the same thing repeats.
You need to re-flash using Odin!

I figured I would have to do that. Unfortunately my Sammy would not power down. It kept looping, off and on and when it was on, it gave me either the 'logo' or the 'power reset' message, both of which I described above. I even let the battery run down and upon recharge it immediately went into the loop I mentioned.
I tried to connect it to my PC but the PC would not recognize it at all. I checked to make sure I have the right drivers and I do.
I am hoping some one would know how to get the boot sequence working without having to physically open the pad.

If you can get back to that screen, which is download mode, you can reflash Roto-JME and get back to a working Tab.

I had to wait awhile to reply because the tab went dead - no power. I tried to recharge it but it did not hold enough power to let me complete the task.
I am recharging it for 24 hours hoping that it will hold enough charge to let me complete the task.
In the meantime I located several sites for Odin3 v 1.7 but I was unable to get the same pack as ayman019 had which probably came from you rotohammer. will it be possible to get the link so I will have the right software/firmware?
(I located P1000XXJHA.rar files but I am having difficulties unzipping it. Each time I try it asks for a password. or would not even allow me to unzip it at all)
hi just curious,
can i flashed samsung tab t849 to samsung tab p1000??? it will not brick my tab???
pls confirm before i flash the tab, thanks

Hi,
T849 from T-Mobile accidently flashed with wrong firmware and tab become totally dead. Repaired boot with Riff Box, so I can enter in to download mode now but couldn’t find Roto-JME or stock firmware. All download links are dead or deleted.
Would you share Roto-JME please?
Thank you in advance.
The link from rotohamer for tmobike stock is over. you have to update your tab to gingerbread 2.3

Horrible guide. Setup for failure and no support.
There is hardly any need for this old firmware. You can always run any European GB rom for P1000 as long as you keep T-Mobile modem you get 3g or use jpz modem and you get voice.
And with roto modem switcher you can even switch between voice and 3g.
The link in my signature is overcome links. It has gb jq1 rom and method to flash it.

I have an SGH-T849. Trying to unlock it. Cant find any positive guides for custom roms or anything. Everything is only on the p1000 so I am taking my chances and flashing p1000 firmware so I can fit in.
You will be alright.
I am holding in my hand a T849 now running AOKP SGT milestone 6.
The T849 is exactly like a P1000 except the modem hardware.
I don't know about network unlocking though.

[Q] Kies "This version cannot be updated"; Telstra-Samsung Galaxy Tab 7in ABANDONED?
Hi Friends,
Last week I bought 2 Tabs (Currently at AUD 400 outright). Since playing & today I found that, in Kies it says "This version of device cannot be updated." [See attached image]
What does it mean? Telstra model is GT-P1000T. Does it means Samsung/Telstra will not issue updates/upgrades for GT-P1000T??
what if we upgrade unofficial ROMs? Does these models GT-P1000T/GT-P1000L/GT-P1000N/GT-P1000 have any hardware differences that can brick the tab?
I appreciate you feedback.
Thanks & Regards,
-------------------------------------------
Just ROOTed & Clockwork Recovery installed..
It means the version of kies has a problem
Hi - Yes I have the same issue. I just upgraded to the latest version of Kies, and I have a Telstra Galaxy Tab, and get the same message "This version of the device cannot be updated"..
Keen to understand whether other ROMs are workable to upgrade the device past the JJ3 PDA, JJ3 Phone and JJ4 (Tel) CSC
You can update to overcome rom. I flashed my telstra tab the other week. Works fine!
+1 can apply custom ROM. FYI I also bought it for $400 3 days ago but checked today.. & telstra got it $299 out right online only price... no winning for me :-(
wich method did you use to get clockwork on the telstra tab
same in uk
+1 for the Galaxy Tab WiFi GT-P1010. The Kies program indicates that I have the latest and there are no options for OTA updates. The firmware & Android had better be able to be updated.
Wow. I got my tab for $899 from Telstra in December. Cant belive they are selling them outright for $299. fwiw these are the same network freq as the ATT tabs and they run custom firmware without a problem.

bought the tab from telstra on the 299 price tag. just installed kies on my windows pc and found that i have the same problem too.
Update: I got jmi via kies. If You are having issues try a custom rom at your own risk (jmi is way better than jj3)
I also have a Galaxy Tab, the P1000T. I have tried to root it so I could make a back up, but none of the rooting programs work. They go through the motions, but end result is nothing.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but to flash the device, with a 'unoffical' update, you need root access.
I don't want to brick the device, but I would like to update the OS/ROM.
Nowonmai, I have 2 Telstra p1000t's. You need to use super one click to root the tab. It's on the forum, do a search. Make sure to READ the instructions...
If you then decide to upgrade to Gingerbread, Follow the Instructions EXACTLY. I found the modem.bin in the [11.MAY.2011][ROM][GSM][2.3.3] ◄► Overcome ROM v2.0.0 BETA 2 ◄► GINGERBREAD!!! ◄► thread, the rest is in the [stock rom][2.3.3] p1000xxjq1 p1000xxjq1 p1000xxjpz thread...

Works fine.
CSC can be changed after flash (I set mine to XEU)
Product code still ends in (TEL) though and same error from Kies about unable to update.
Otherwise works fine and lost crappy Telstra apps and boot splash.
All good!
Rooting not required.
Solved
hi i have the same problem too. but i found a solution. (Singapore Galaxy Tab owners - no need to go to service center))
1 first back up (very important)
2 check your region using *#272*IMEI# (mine is XSP Singapore)
3 then i change it to XTC (Philippines)
4 it will make factory reset
5 update you kies
6 plug it and ready to upgrade
7 after the upgrade you can return it back to the previous region (no. 2) (optional)
8 restore back up
9 download all your previous apps.
then enjoy..........
How do you check you region code ?
check your region using *#272*IMEI# (mine is XSP Singapore)
I cant type "IMEI" in the dialer ?
Sorry got it.... I inserted my IMEI number in that place and could get through.

I bought 2 SGT GT-P1000's. I wrote about a debacle I had purchasing them, as both said they were from U.K.-London addresses. Anyway, because they still had some Korean apps on the official Samsung Apps software, I sent them both in from the U.S.A. to Great Britain to have them "officially" put the correct English only software on them.
Long story short, got both back. One was updatable through KIES, one wasn't. They deleted all of the official U.K. apps that were originally on there(I guess they figured since I lived in the U.S.A., I didn't need or want them.
I had asked anyone before if there was anyway to get back what was officially originally on them as I too paid about $600.00 full price. I was able to flash both over to whatever rom I wanted and back to the stock Italy Gingerbread. But, yeah, it was weird that when they did come back(it was a long drama and took over 2 months-they were lost, sent to wrong service centre, etc., etc.
The reason I wanted the original software was because it allowed me to access the free $200.00 in software like the movies, music, ebooks, games that came with the purchase after I had registered them during their promo that Samsung had. They took that all off and when I go into the websites now, it says that I am not in an authorized network area-even if I change CSC or change time zone. So, I basically had downloaded them when I first had them and wanted to re-download my free stuff. Screwed yet again!
Does that mean if I change my location to UK or Sprint US, I can actually update the TAB throught the Kies provided by the local telecom operator?
Just got a Captivate that came with a custom rom preinstalled (phoenix 5.2) and I want to flash it back to the standard/original rom from samsung.
My problem is the model
when i boot the phone, the samsung screen shows: SGH-I897, but when i go to the about phone screen in settings it shows as GT-I9000.
Anyway to figure out which it is?
Also, i dont know if this helps, but when i run Odin3 one click, and click master clear, it runs and shows as successful but i see no change on the phone whatsoever.
Thanks in advance for the help
master clear does NOT get you back to stock. you need to use ODIN to actually flash the stock rom in DOWNLOAD mode. looks like you have a lot of reading to do, instead of just clicking buttons
If you have a Captivate it is either an SGH-I896 if its for the rogers network or SGH-I897 if its for AT&T. If the AT&T logo is right above the screen it is the SGH-I897, not sure where the rogers branding is.
GT-I9000 is the model number of the international Samsung Galaxy S, the phone most every custom rom you will for our phone is based on, and it is the model number listed in about phone for various reasons such as Android Market limitations with the Captivate.
I would suggest you read the stickies in the captivate section about how to flash roms and then read them some more, and also consider using the AIO Captivate Toolbox until you become more familiar.
All Master Clear does is wipe the Internal SD Card on the phone, its that other button in 1-click odin that does all the magic, but read read and read some more before you do anything!

Good Day,
Let me start by saying that I had tried to post this under a thread in the development section, but was denied as I am a new member.
I require some advice regarding a bricked Samsung Galaxy Tab.
The unit will not boot or enter download mode, only the navigation icons at the base of the device light up and turn off when holding the power button for a short period of time. My PC chimes as though it can see the device, yet does not show up in "my computer".
Odin sees the device, but hangs during flash attempts at "SetupConnection".
After reading the thread regarding unbricking your Galaxy Tab, I was unable to determine the nature of this particular "bricking".
The device entered this state after I had attempted to flash the device with the new Gingerbread update which downloaded from SamFirmware.com. This was not my first flash on this device, as I had the new version of the Overcome ROM installed, and was attempting to bring the device back to stock firmware for my region.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Put the tab to the wall socket and charge it for a few hours. Shutdown your pc and unplug it. Once the tab has charged. Connect to the PC and attempt to flash a decent stock firmware like overcome's stock safe. Good luck.

Thank you for the quick reply,
I have had the tab charging via the wall charger for some time now. Will there be an indication as to when it would be advisable to try the flash ie: the device's current boot behavior will change...
And your instruction to shut down my PC and unplug it, unplug the PC?
Can you give me any indication as to what has happened here? For future knowledge... and will my inability to reach download mode restrict my success rate on resurrecting my BRAND NEW TAB ... LOL!!
Thank You DarkPal
Well your bootloaders arent screwed up as the tab is showing signs of life and is detectable in ODIN. Unless in a faaar fetched case of another hardware failure your tab firmware is corrupted. I asked you to unplug the PC to reset the USB host controllers (recommended in case there is a connectivity issue with usb).
Try to put the tab in download mode again after its been sufficiently charged and connect to pc then flash a decent stock firmware like overcome's stock safe.
Did the trick,
Thank you for this. Overcomes stock safe installed and running.
I do have an unrelated question when it comes to modem choice, and noticed that you authored the modem list in the dev section for these devices.
I am having some issue getting 3G connection, and cannot pinpoint if this is a firmware issue or modem issue.
I am in Canada on the Fido network, running GT-P1000
Can you suggest a modem?
Depends on what bands your network supports. I dont reside in Canada so I wouldnt know maybe someone else using fido can help? In most general terms the JPZ modem works for most GSM networks give it a shot first. If fido is an 850 band network consider JJ3 modem.
Thank you
I am very happy to post that I have resolved my issue regarding the lack of connectivity in my region.
It was in fact a modem issue.
I found the solution on this page
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=847273
I followed the instructions on that thread to test the modem under the ROM prescribed there... it worked on all available bands in my region, and proceeded to use just the modem along with the overcome ROM, and again success.
I am attaching the modem for any other Canadian Fido users encountering this problem. Hope it I can pay it forward.
Thank you again for all you help.
Great support structure here at XDA!!

When I reboot device I go into a boot loop where it says Samsung and it used to say Verizon instead can u help me please?

I hope not GB stock safe v5 from overcome site. That is a gsm rom, not for cdma.

There is your problem..
Re-flash stock firmware with pit and re-partition, When complete, check you can register on the network.
If so then avoid the ROM which you are currently running.
EDIT: When you say the phone says Galaxy S II, Is this not a boot animation taken from the SGS II ? Or is it the actual boot screen which says its a SGS II ?

No problem.
Head over to www.samfirmware.com and grab one from there, flash it through odin, Instructions are on that site too.
Thanks AzzleDazzle, but now comes up another problem.... Probably very basic, but for me, its all abracadabra.
I have an European Samsung Galaxy S GTi9000, but if i look at the site there are many roms u can download. From Android 2.1 to Android 2.3.4 for "my" device. Which is the one i should use? My ID is I9000XWJVH, which is according to the site an unknown H version.
Please advice once more, thanks in advance!
No worries, Make sure you download a firmware specifically for the I9000
the last 3 letters eg JVH is the firmware version, JV.X. represents gingerbread 2.3.3 and above.
Gingerbread is the latest release, so i would go for one of them, The one at the bottom of the page on samfirmware will be the very latest, Which i think is JVR
So look for I9000XXJVR.
flash that in ODIN and job done you should be back up and running and with the latest release.
The rest is upto you . i.e going to a custom ROM / rooting ect...
i feel more and more like a noob....
I started Odin, and there u can choose for the pit file, or for the pda file (which is the one i should use i guess), but also u have the choices of re-partition auto reboot and f. reset time. Which of those 3 (or non at all) i should use?
I dont know what has happened. I choose for only reboot after flashing. Flashing went okay, but now it seems to be stuck in a loop. The Galaxy S screen gets followed up by a Swisscom screen in a seemingly endless loop.
Worse, with volume down - power on i can not come in the download menu anymore...
Any advice would be much appreciated now.....
Also when trying a re-partitioning via Odin it doesnt work?
Found the solution. Using Odin 1.8 did the trick. I used Odin 1.3 which probably couldnt flash the 2.3.4, while when i tried with Odin 1.8 it worked flawlesly.
Thanks for your help!
Hello
From what ive seen on here and other forums this is a very common problem with no real solution!?!
Am thinking that theres no fix but thought id ask before i give up so here goes!!
I have a samsung galaxy ace gt-s5830 which was originally on o2 uk that i wanted to use on vodafone uk
I managed to root the phone and get the unlock code from the phone via the bml5.img and the XVI32 Hex Editor
I then unrooted the phone put in the new sim and entered the unlock code
The phone now says vodafone uk on the lock screen but doesnt have any signal!?!
It still has an imei and baseband number and ive checked that the imei number isnt blocked
Ive also checked that all locks are off via samsung code *#7465625#
I have flashed the firmware to UK Gingerbread 2.3.6. using odin 4.38 and a one package tar.md5 file, wiped caches and rebooted etc
but the problem still remains!?!?!
Other than the no signal problem the phone works perfect and also when i take the sim card out theres signal?!?!
One other thing When ever i reboot the phone /system/csc/o2u/system cant be found although ive read this has nothing to do with the signal problem?!?
If anyone has any ideas or needs any further info then please let me know
I am new (probably pretty obviously!) to all this so please keep replys as simple as pos!!!
Many thanks

hi matt first of all..
1. did you try another firmware?
2. you follow correctly the method to flash firmwares on odin?
seems to me that your download was corrupted, or you didn't flash properly on odin.
Its not a good thing to touch the bml5 partiton wich contains our imei ... even tough u unlocked it successfully you may have made some files corrupted wich can cause that ...
A major way to know this is ... does your previous sim aquire network?
And just to inform the error message is really not relevant ... csc function is to "inform kies" so it can do update your android version to the rom of your Country/Carrier.
Hello and thanks for both your replys
Firstly to answer matias.s
These are the instructions i followed to flash the fw
Flashing the Samsung Galaxy Ace GT-S5830 Firmware
1/. Enter Download mode by pressing and holding Volume down, select and power button simultaneously
2/. Connect phone to computer and open the Odin Multi Downloader v4.38 (it should show the com port it is connected on)
3/. For OPS, browse and select Cooper_v1.0
4/. For One Package, select the MD5 flash file attached and click start. (The attached firmware is for UK Gingerbread
2.3.6. You may use any firmware at this stage)
5/. Enter Diagnostic mode by pressing and holding select and power button simultaneously and clear caches
6/. Root the Samsung Galaxy Ace using the root.zip update
7/. Download, install and Open Root Explorer (File Manager) from Android Market
8/. Add Directory csc/system/XEU/system and move files over from CSC/system
9/. Enter Diagnostic mode again by pressing and holding select and power button simultaneously and clear caches
10/. Unroot the Samsung Galaxy Ace using the unroot.zip update
11/. Enter Diagnostic mode once again by pressing and holding select and power button simultaneously and clear caches
Odin came up with pass at the end
The only instruction i didnt follow exactly was 8
Firstly it wouldnt let me create the folder and then when i went into my directory there was already a /system/csc/XEU/system which had files
Could this be the problem?!?
And to answer snowpluralism
The sim im using works fine in other devices and as i said in the op the phone even has signal until a sim is inserted!?!
Update...
I flashed the fw again with a vodafone one package md5 via odin Odin passed the download and the phone is now branded with vodafone logo and apps
It is now on android version 2.3.5 build number gingerbread.buks but still has no signal
One strange thing when i first turned the phone on after the download it updated and downloaded vodafone apps and in the phone status said it was connected under mobile network state even though it still had no signal?!?
Thanks again for your replys and any ideas again please let me know!!
And thanks to snowpluralism for explaining about the csc error That explains why kies cant update my fw!!
