Is this possible? - HD7 General

Dont have the phone yet, waiting for it to come in, played with it at Tmobile store, and was under the impression that the home screen is tile based, then i see pictures as i have put bellow, is that type of home screen lay out really possible on this phone? to mimic very much of the HD2?

Sorry that isnt a picture of a available home...as of now microsoft dosent allow the home to be customized. the is a app called htc hub..

Oh nice, so we can buy an app that will allow that lay out, thank you.

That application is called HTC Hub and it comes with (and is available to download for free) for anyone with an HTC phone with Windows Phone 7 on it.
That being said, this will not replace your start screen. Your start screen cannot be replaced. So you have to open this application each time you want to use it. It does not stay open and you cannot let it run on top of your start screen. So this is in no way a start screen replacement like HTC Sense is for other non-WP7 HTC phones.
That being said, its a rather useless application since it can't stay open all the time, and even if it could, its much too over-the-top and flashy and doesn't really have any real features aside from the clock and weather.

It will be a better app if they can improve the live hub that sits on the start screen - have that display weather, location and time.

I'm looking for an application dock like in open home..does anyone know if their is one available without open home?
thanks in advance....
Haven't seen one, but it would be sweet. Just a widget with last 6 apps used would be cool. Or drag and drop, like a tray.

you mean like when you hold the home key down?
It's not quite what the OP is looking for, but try "Bar Control" which allows you to put launcher icons for your favorite apps in the status bar.

Exactly but a widget.
Seems silly imo, but thats my opinion...unless you mean something like the iPhone dock? dxtop has a second tab that keeps track of recently used apps. That's the closest thing I've seen yet. Since 1.5 is officially on its way to the masses I think you'll see a ton of widgets hit the market soon.

yea i cant wait until more widgets come out.. i had to not use Open Home anymore just to see the stock widgets.. money comes, money goes.. LIFE!
Id be willing to bet money that once stock 1.5 gets pushed open home will open their app up to the new widgets.

They have a working beta and it works with all widgets. When you install it though it wipes your screens clean and you have to redo everything. Also folder icons go back to default at random But its a small price to pay for the widgets i think
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=510831
SweeterHome has app trays that can be installed. You pick the apps/shortcuts, etc you want in the tray and can customize almost EVERYTHING!
Also, has what they call "springboards" which is an icon/shortcut that will open up an app tray (or) that can contain anything you want.
I've been using it for quite some time. It is in development - but, most of the major bugs have been worked out.

Anyone else wishing they would have modified the market to allow for Apps + Games + Widgets in the menu? It's going to be a pain in the butt finding new widgets with all the apps.
I love dxTop implematation of the app dock.. just swipe the drawer pull tabs to the left or to the right and there ya go. BRILLIANT!

New! Photoshere feature AND android device manager features

guys, go grab this google play services apk http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/0...through-google-play-services-3-2-25-download/
and not for the android device manager feature, but for this newly discovered photosphere feature included http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/0...oto-sphere-compass-mode-just-like-streetview/
photosphere now can use your compass. if you enable it, you can spin 360 degrees around, and the photosphere spins around as well
thanks Android Police*
Just be aware that the particular apk they link to is not the one for the Nexus 4 so it may cause lots of other issues. Since there is no way to actually use the ADM feature yet, I would hold off.

android device manager
So I read that Android Device Manager has already "rolled out" for some users. What do they mean by "rolled out?" How do I go about checking to see if I have received this "rolled out?" thanks
Am I understanding this new features correctly? No longer need to line up the blue dot and just record free hand and let the compass do the work instead?

no while viewing the photosphere, you have an option at the bottom left of the screen. if you press it, you can spin yourself around, while keeping the screen in front of your face, and see the scene move around on the device, you can tilt the phone up, to look up, tilt it down to look down, tilt it left and right too.

Android 4.3: No way to disable the lock screen anymore?

Just upgraded to Android 4.3 (stock HTC ROM) and there must be a bug because I can no longer disable the lock screen. I'm not talking about the pin/pattern lock screen but the swipe up to unlock lock screen (with the icons in the bottom). If I go to Settings > Security and chose to disable the lock screen it doesn't make any difference.
Can someone else please confirm that this is a bug before I wipe my phone?
Doesn't look like a bug, looks like HTC is being responsible and not allowing a phone to not have any security on it. Makes sense IMO

Exactly! And when you bundle your favourite apps in groups on the dock you can just swipe up that folder to get access to it. Quite nifty I would say

My guess is that they removed a lot of things (in 5.5) because most people didn't even use them or know about them. I don't see why you wouldn't want a lock screen though xD

Well, if there is an option for something that doesn't do anything I consider it a bug. Swipe-to-unlock doesn't add a lot of security imho.

The thing is that the options is there but doesn't do anything. I have my phone 95% of the time on my desk/table next to me and I just find it unnecessary to unlock with a button and then swipe. Whenever I leave home I have it in a tight case so there is no risk on me touching buttons by misstake.

Oh, I see what you meant above now.. But the point is, for a lot of folks the lock screen is pointless. It's just an uneccesary extra step to get to what you want on your phone. Especially now that most phones have pocket detection so there's no worries of pocket dialing anymore. I personally find it annoying and not at all needed. Just one less thing to waste my time and battery.
I guess i can see the usefulness of it though in some situations, I.E. Nosy girlfriend/boyfriend mainly. Lol

I understand what you're saying, and I don't use any sort of security on my phone, but I'd still prefer to have the slide to unlock as opposed to nothing at all. I suppose it's each to their own but IMO HTC have decided to take the option out to possibly cover themselves from unhappy customers - I dunno...
HTC_001 just got the update and now being forced to have a lock screen when it doesn't add any security seems a waste of time, everyone knows how to unlock a phone so it's not going to stop anyone getting in, the choice should be left up to the end user, default it to on and that should cover them enough. Next they'll force everyone to have a pin to unlock their phone.
No Lock app works fine and the fact 1-5mill people have downloaded it shows that they have made a mistake here.
No lock, no thanks
Works awful. Just used it for about 5 minutes and it made my phone behave erratically. Seeing as it hasn't been updated for years, it's no surprise. Good luck with it...couldn't even launch apps from the notifications screen without it loading the home screen, locking it and then turning the screen off. Disabled it and then removed it and all is right again on my phone.
Why not accept peoples wish
No lock works fine - and about the security issues people have here:
I never lock my phone with a pattern, pin, code or something.
If you keep sensitive data on it - your fault. You know that it is public if it is on your phone (as we learned from the NSA).
If you don't, leaving your phone unlocked gives you at least the chance that if you loose it and an honest person finds it, he or she will be able to return it to you by contacting "Mum" or "Sweety" from the Contacts. An unhonest person would simply factory-reset it. Right?

Been working perfect on my phone (and others members here) for months. There's no need to update an app often when it does such a simple task. Does exactly what it says. Couldn't ask for anything more from it.

You obviously don't program. And it's great that it works for you, however it is apparent from the thread and the comments in the play store that the app has issues. The app certainly doesn't work for me on multiple devices. So I could certainly ask for more, seeing that it simply doesn't work reliably at all in my testing. But since it looks to be abandoned it's not something I expect. That's not a big deal for me at all because it's an app I simply tried but not one I plan on using.

Virtual Tour Shot Camera Mode

Anyone have any idea how to use this? When I select this mode, I get the pop up window that explains what it is and the message at the bottom to align the circle with the pointer, but the screen shows a blue dot inside the white circle no matter where I'm pointing, which orientation I'm holding the phone and there's no option to activate the camera....it's grayed out, and the settings are for the video only. I can tap on the video button, but then it just records video.
Anyone have any idea how to actually use this mode?
Follow the information on the screen. It'll tell you what to do. The dot will be your focal point and the Circle will eventually pop up. You'll need to go either left or right or straight.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
The circle doesn't do anything. I have it pointing down a hall way and nothing happens. ..
once you start panning or moving forward a new circle shows up, you just match the dot to the new circle, very simple
Is it supposed to automatically just detect the "scene" and start? Are there some other settings that, when activated, disable this functionality? Do you have to activate the first shot by hitting the camera button (because if so, mine doesn't let me tap on it).

Ok, after 30 mins with Samsung tech support and then booting up into Safe Mode, we determined that there's some 3rd party app that may be inhibiting the VT Shot function, because it DID work in Safe Mode. I even uninstalled the google camera app.....Although that didn't seem to be the issue.....with this in mind, and knowing that this phone is not rooted, what's the best approach to help identify which app could be the culprit here? I don't want to wholesale factory reset and slowly add one app at a time....any ideas?

SOLVED! I FIGURED OUT THE CULPRIT! On my old S4, I was using the app "Moves" (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.protogeo.moves) which was a Pedometer app. But now that S Health is so integrated with the phone, I actually don't need it, so when I removed it, Virtual Tour Shot cam mode started working. For sure! Especially because this is my first Android device which I have NOT rooted (victim of circumstance, not elective), so I knew it wasn't because of some weird rooted circumventing process. On the plus side, with s health's built-in pedometer setting, there's no need for Moves anymore.

I've used the S5 and figured out how to disable the magazine app, well, the S6 has a similar feature that uses Flipboard. I haven't been able to figure out how to disable.
Also, I have NO IDEA how to create a folder in the App Drawer.

Dunno about about the folders but you can hide (but maybe not disable) the Flipboard screen by unchecking its box in the "rearrange home screens" mode.

While the wrap around effect is long gone in TouchWiz, it is still implemented on most third party launchers. And call me crazy, but someone with so much experience should know how to simply add new pages and reassign the home page.

I wasn't asking how to rearrange home screens. The feature is alive and well in the 4. Don't see any benefit to removing it, but you're not really here for help or a discussion. Just to be argumentative and condescending.
