Ok so I just got an email that team viewer released a beta version for android. Sorry can't post the link not enough posts. My problem is that it is a direct download through the browser. When I go to install my phone will not allow me to install because it wasn't downloaded through the app market. Is there anyway around this besides rooting my phone. I have a stock phone. The teamviewer page says this
"Installation notes
You can download and install the App using your Android web browser. Due to this direct download and installation you will have to enable the following option in Android once: Settings - Application settings - Unknown sources (enable)
I cannot find this setting. I am pretty sure that I will have to root my phone to do it I just wanted conformation. Thanks in advace for your help.
Jason
hi i dont know about the samsung devices, but on htc devices its no problem. i forgot to set the setting too. but when i try to install, there was a popup coming up with a options button, to actiavt it.
but in the normal settings menu its settings-applications- check unknown sources
i tried it out, its pretty smooth. i like it
you can download the apk from their website onto pc, then install via sideload
http://teamviewer.com/download/index.aspx#downloadAreaiPhone
so the use for this would be that i can control my desktop pc from my phone? can i transfer files and such?

On the desktop versions you can. Not sure about this beta though. Been waiting FOREVER for this though. I use TeamViewer almost exclusively, but I've been using LogMeIn cause they have an Android client. But screw them now!
Oh and btw jd1peters, AT&T has disabled that option from our phones. If you want to enable sideloading, search the forums for enabling non-market apps.
No need to root. Just download the apk and install with android sideload wonder machine.
Sent from my Captivate
@ OP, you're awesome for bringing this up. Been waiting for this forever 8)
edit: anybody else getting the error" connection failed because your partner's Teamviewer is too old. Version 6 or higher is required to connect." There isn't even a version 6 on the desktop client.
second edit: looks like they have the v6 beta for computer clients on their website.

Yeah, you can control your desktop from your phone. IMO Teamview is one of the fastest and easiest ways to connect two computers together, all you need is the client software installed. So much less of a headache than going through and setting up the numerous VNC programs available.
As a quick note, one really important setting on the Android side is whether to optimize for speed or quality. I think it defaults to automatic, but depending what you're trying to do, you may want to set it to be one way or the other to improve performance.

My buddy wants to get into android, but he was curious if there was an app where he could control his computer remotely. Like tell it to download something?
That seems extreme and not feasible to me. Any apps out there close to this though?
I need to pull up gmote and see its capabilities.

I think that you might be able to control your computer with VNC but I haven't tried.
In regards to downloading... sure. There are a lot of torrent apps that will connect to your bittorrent clients (such as utorrent or whatever). You just need to make sure everything is set up properly.
Yeah, he has utorrent on his computer currently. So can he see his desktop on his droid and open up programs on his computer?
If so, that seems unreal to me. I looked and saw on gmotes site they had a beta that sounded like this.
Can anyone confirm? Thank you guys.

If he's using a Windows Desktop, there is a RDP client on the App Market, just search for RDP. He will need to have his router setup to forward the proper ports (3389 TCP) to his computer for it to work, but I've used it to download things in a pinch, and copy it up to a webserver to download on my G1....
he's not gonna be doing anything ridiculous on it, remember there is a HUGE resolution difference b/t G1/DROID/Mobiles in general vs Computer Resolutions...
Okay, sounds very intriguing.
Let me word it differently though:
From his Droid, would he be able to see his desktop and scroll to uTorrent and tell it to download something, to his computer, not the droid.
You guys are awesome. I am floored that our G1 can do what you guys have told me. I obviously need to move beyond flashing roms and themes and learn what the guts can do.

Really what it sounds like you're asking, is he can remotely connect to his desktop, use it to search for and download the torrent file, and open it in the torrent client...? Complete remote control of his computer from off-site...? I don't know about you guys, but I have to search for and find a torrent file from a tracking site (demonoid, thepiratebay, etc.) and d/l that, then open it in my torrent client (utorrent).
I don't think this is capable yet... but I'm interested to hear more about this from those that know.
Remote Desktop Client works just like RDP and will allow you to log into your computer at home from your android phone using your windows login. Once logged in you have your trackball to move the mouse and can do anything you could do sitting in front of your computer. Its a $15 app which is really high for android OS but its been more than worth $15 all the times its saved my butt.
I also use it to monitor my utorrent download remotely.

If he has uTorrent then he can just set up the webui and forward his utorrent port on his/her router to the ip address of the computer. then download Transdroid (what I use because it has a decent widget) and set that up. TIP: use no-ip (or whatever) to set up a static ip address and change the name (like [email protected]) so you can just input that in the Default Server settings in the Transdroid preferences. It also uses isoHunt, Mininova, BT Junkie and even allows you to enter your own to search for new torrents. When you find one to download simply select it and it sends it to the computer. From there the uTorrent client will open the torrent that was sent and starts the download process. You can easily track the status of the active torrents on the client with it as well.
There are some out there that will even let you scan a barcode of a movie (useful if your in the video store) and it'll lookup the movie and send the torrent to your pc and it'll start downloading. If you have a decent enough internet connection you can go to the video store, scan a movie in the New Releases section, leave empty handed, get some Jack In The Box and by the time you get home the movie can already be on your computer ready to be viewed/burned. And it's not just for movies. It's for any other type of torrent.

usb outlook sync
here's a possible usb sync solution for outlook users; it's pretty expensive though ($40, 15 day trial version), and I haven't tried it since my vouge is not activated atm.
http ://www .companionlink.com/androidusb/ol-android-usb.html
(spaces in link for newbie post)
Would this work with the vogue's usb driver?? I know i've read about issues with only parts of the usb driver being implemented.
Anyway there's a trial if anyone's interested. I'm still holding out for a "reverse tethering" solution so I can access the internet on my vogue over usb or bluetooth. There's another thread on here about that.
Great work on the guide. I'm sure I might be using it when I upgrade to a new phone in the near future
this is a great guide, thanks. i am due for upgrade around december and think that i will keep my 6900 in service- not sure as to what she will do,but ill figure out something
this gives me the opportunity to keep her at full service.

6. The apps you backup will be backed up to /sdcard/backups/apps/
7. You can use one of the following adb commands to pull these files from the emulator:
adb pull /sdcard/backups/apps/ /AndApps
This will download all of your backed up apps to a folder on your root drive called AndApps
or
adb pull /sdcard/backups/apps/<NAME OF APK>.apk /AndApps/<NAME OF APK>.apk
This will copy a single apk of your choosing to /AndApps/

You have to place it in the directory stated by the sdk documentation for Mac:
If it works for you, post it here and I'll update the guide for mac users too. I'm not really sure what you'd do with the .ini though, perhaps a mac user can tell you that (or you could create an avd through SDK setup and upload your avd folder so I can look at it)

Thank you for the reply. I did copy the avd to my .android folder on Mac, but the emulator doesn't see it. I am a fairly new Mac user as well, so not too much help from here

This method doesn't work with HD7 ASIA.
You were right it is 7.0.7390.0 i was running 7.0.7389.0 plugged it into zune and instant update i wonder whats new?
Didn't work on HD7 unbranded...
I was trying to unlock my phone (HTC HD7 carrier: A1 telekom austria) with your tutorial unfortunately the unlock worked but I didnt get the NoDo Update.
It still says my phone is up2date...So did anyone got NoDo on the HD7 so far (in austria) with this workaround?

Here are whats new:
1> Copy & paste. You asked for it—now it's here. Just tap a word and drag the arrows to copy and paste it on your phone. You can copy text from emails, text messages, web pages, and Office Mobile documents, and paste it anywhere you can type. To learn more, see Copy & paste.
2> Faster apps and games. Nobody likes to wait. That's why we've whittled down the time it takes for apps and games to start up and resume. It's all part of our focus on getting you to the things you love, easier and faster.
3> Better Marketplace search. We've streamlined Marketplace search to make it easier to find specific apps, games, or music. Press the Search button in the Apps or Games section of Marketplace and you'll see only apps or games in the results. Press Search in the Music section of Marketplace to search just the music catalog.
4> Other Marketplace improvements. We've improved the stability of Marketplace while you download apps. We've also improved the experience of downloading apps larger than 20 megabytes, upgrading from trial apps to paid apps, using a credit card with an address outside the United States, sharing links to apps via email, sorting Xbox LIVE games by release date, and creating an Xbox LIVE account from within the Games Hub.
5> Wi-Fi improvements. We now display your phone's Media Access Control (MAC) address in Settings. (You might need this info if you try to connect to a Wi-Fi network that uses MAC address filtering. To learn more, see Connect to a Wi-Fi network.) We've also removed the limit on the number of Wi-Fi profiles that you can store and reduced the time it takes to start your phone if you've stored lots of Wi-Fi profiles.
6> Outlook improvements. We've improved the experience of viewing iPhone photo attachments you receive from a non-Exchange-based email account (such as a Google Mail, Hotmail, or Yahoo! Mail account), using the Global Address List (GAL) when connecting to Exchange Server 2003 using Exchange ActiveSync, and working with email display names that contain brackets (for example, "David Alexander [Contoso]").
7> Messaging improvements. We've improved the experience of receiving Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) messages if your phone uses a PIN-locked SIM.
8> Facebook integration. We've improved the experience of syncing Facebook accounts.
9> Camera improvements. We've improved the stability of switching between camera and video modes.
10> Audio improvements. We've improved the experience of using a Bluetooth headset to make calls when you're playing music or videos.
11> Other performance improvements. This month's update also includes software from several phone manufacturers that improves the performance of specific models. Naturally, if you don't have one of the affected models, we won't install this portion of the update on your phone.
Glad I Could Be Of help.
PEACE!!!

After you flash your device up and running in no time u will get another update, that one will be the official update from MS using zune.
My method will give u OS:7.0.73890 then the zune will give u the OS:7.0.7390.0

And i'll lose my sideloaded navigon !!
I'm on O2 in the UK and there is no update for me after using this method.
If I use your update without goldcard will I not lose all my data and texts from my phone. Also what about my linked contacts from Facebook, live and my outlook account?
P.S. closing Skype finally let me unlock the phone.
Also, is the connection manager the same as the HTC connection manager? Or should I uninstall that first before sideloading?
Does anyone use this on Nexus One ?
Does it load your torrents ? How many torrents are currently active in your client ?
It doesn't seem to load my torrents and i can never add a torrent (Which is all i want to do really!)
I'm running Fitsnugly's CM7 latest nightly.
Any advice please ?
I run Transdroid (works with most torrent clients that have a web interface). It works beautifully, and I have a ton of torrents that are "loaded" in my client at home (I think over 600 - most are inactive, I just haven't cleaned out the screen) and it doesn't have any problem showing them. It supports loading torrents regularly, and it also supports magnet links from the browser.
Yeah, I was using Transdroid, Worked very well too like you say.
I upgraded utorrent to version 3.xx to try out their remote app which does not load for me, It also seems Transdroid will not connect with utorrent 3.xx
Looks like i will need to go back to utorrent 2.xx and use Transdroid. I was just looking for other peoples experiences with utorrents native android app, Thanks.
I haven't tried utorrent v3. And I likely won't. Once I get back to the states, I plan on doing an overhaul with my computer and switch my desktop to primarily run on Linux. Then I will go back to using ktorrent (which I really miss).
Maybe you could shoot an email off to the developer of transdroid about adding support for utorrent v3.
i use it, it lets you control torrents on your pc, no more.
You need the latest version of utorrent

Hi,
I would like to use the Android Mini as a terminal for our school library. However, kids using the terminal may just install software from the Play store or from other sources (just share it from their own devices will already work). They can also play loads of games on the mini.
How can I restrict this? I tried using app blockers downloaded from the play store but I think because of the Mini's multitasking capabilities, it is possible to easily disable the app blockers simply by pressing ESC. Can I do this without rooting (I am not experienced in rooting and prefer if the solution did not need to open up my mini)
Thanks a lot

Thank you Taillol for your suggestion of using Chromebooks. Chromebooks are currently not in my mind as one of the viable solutions though. I heard that most applications of Chrome are dependent on the internet. What I like with Android is that it has enough applications which can load locally like office apps and paint programs. So in this case, I can free up bandwidth if the user decides to use any app found in its memory.
Android also has applications which are very similar or almost identical to their windows and Linux and Mac desktop counterparts. For instance, I plan to use the android version of textmaker HD for the android boxes while using either the linux or windows versions for the offices using PC (or even use the remix x86). In this way, the applications will look the same in whatever machine they will use. Although google office is also available in all these platforms including chrome, I dont want to get a subscription for business.

Sorry for the delay, Tailslol is a member of the same Ambassador team. I have forwarded your request to the engineering team. Yes i am an ambassador too.
And we are looking for a solution internally.
Current version of the mini lack of tools for this kind of use.
I was suggesting Chromebooks mostly because they have Google adminstrative tools and recent ones have access to Android play store.

I would agree that chrome would be better suited at this point. The parental tools on Google Play I looked at today still would not lock it down the way you would like. The software engineers have your request.
First, I really appreciate the interest you've shown. I've been talking to the developers and here's the latest.
To fulfill the needs of your scenario, there is development work that we need to do. To that end, there is good news and bad news.
The bad news is, we haven't had the resources and time to develop it yet, so the Mini or any Remix OS product right now can't claim to support Mobile Device Management or any type of kiosk mode fully.
However, the good news is that two weeks ago, we started the ball rolling on this development. The timing is unclear, but we are aiming for the end of Q1 or early Q2 2017 with the releases for Remix IO and Remix IO+. This development should also provide Minis with administrative rights and management ability.
I'd hope that you do stay in touch and when we have it done, we'll update you then.
Thanks!

I downloaded the x86 version of the Remix and installed it on a PC. I noticed that the PC version gave options on bootup. One of them was a "guest mode". From the description it says that "Guest Mode" cannot save anything. Does this include the inability to install apps? The Guest Mode sounds like it can work, but I wasn't able to explore the PC version so extensively.
If so, maybe we can have a "guest mode" for the Remix mini too then simply password protect the "Resident mode" so students wont simply reboot and choose "Resident Mode" on reboot. If the guest mode already exists for the x86 version, then I suppose the code for this type of admin control is already available. Thanks.

you can install app but not large ones due to the limitation of ram and usb drive size and none will stay when the computer reboot. account information will not stay too.
