No unfortunately, maybe somebody can shed some lights on how to disable GPS?
If i use root explorer to remove Camera apk/odex and CameraFirmware apk/odex on the leaked odin 2.2 build, will this work?
is the interface any difference? newer? got any screen shots?
Update. I added the files to system/app and removed the corresponding apk/odex files, rebooted and it worked. Its UI is setup different and personally I went right back to Stock because it does not have the HD Camcorder icon. I guess its a matter of style. Sorry i didnt take screenshots.
Same Captivate camera app but changed the icon to the Vibrants original black camera icon. In case you all preferred it. I installed this in Obsidian V4.2 ULF ROM. No problems.

Personally I like Captivate camera better because the settings is easier to use and more responsive. It's a matter of personal preferences .. give it a try, see if you like it and switch back if you don't.
I've updated OP with stock camera in case you didn't like it.

1. Use Droid X Bootsrapper to boot into Clockwork Recovery
2. Navigate to mounts and storage
3. Mount /system
4. Back out to main menu and select install zip from sdcard
5. Select choose zip from sdcard
6. Navigate to GingerBreadLatinIME.zip and select it to install
7. After install completes, return to main menu and reboot phone
Tested and works great on my DX running 2.3.320 and Fission 2.3
Is this one any different from the updated release on droid-life?
the one on droid life was uber small.. any fix for that? also is there a single .zip with the dictionary and kb?
The one on Droid Life has been fixed. I am using mine on Fission 2.3 and all features work.
I'm sure I've missed the answer to this somewhere but, is this keyboard multi-touch?
There's one in rom manager under fabulous's rom section with a full dictionary and working auto-correction.
Okay since I'm still a newbie I have a question.
I'm on Rubix and didn't like that the motorola multi-touch keyboard wasn't on there.
Instead there's the Android keyboard. I installed the apk of the multi-touch from
punk.kaos here and I deleted the LatinIME from the system/lib folder to replace it with
the libnji that came with his apk zip.
Now I've gone through the bootstrap method as described in the OP but the GB
keyboard isn't installing and instead I'm getting the FC on the multi-touch. My question
is this, do I have to replace the libjni again with the one that comes in this zip?
Works well. Enjoying it..
The keyboard is multitouch. I'll edit this post once I've tried it ton rubix 1.9
edit: works just fine :]
Using the GB keyboard to type this. It seems a little small... installed the one in ROM manager.
Sent from my DROIDX
lets post screen shots
Mine is comming in really small. Changing the LCD density fixes it, but I really have no interest in doing that permanently. any fix?
Is there a difference in the one in rom manager and the one from droid-life? or are they the same
Tried both of them...one from rom manager and the one from post...both are tiny...but I can still type pretty well just slower. I feel like if this was the normal size it would be better than the stock moto one!

Tiny fix. Dl lcd density and select stock 240 then apply/reboot. Fixed! Well fixed till next time you reboot.

In your case you need to put LatinIME.apk back on you phone like it was before all the changes you mentioned above. Then you can install the Gingerbread Keyboard once that is done.
The reason for all your troubles is cause the Gingerbread Keyboard installs over and replaces both the Droid X Multi-touch Keyboard and if installed the 2.2 Android Keyboard. Hope this helps and post back with any questions.

Thanks for the reply. I went ahead and used the rom manager method and it worked fine.
Ewww.
This is really tiny with the LCD mod in place! I guess I have to go my backup now, or does anyone know how to uninstall this thing?
No go..
I get a constant force close. Didn't work for me.
Just as the title says... I'm running a rooted stock ROM with sideloading enabled and was wondering if there was a way to change the lockscreen. I saw a couple floating around but they look like they required specific ROMs or 2.2 installed.

I doubt it. You could try fiddling around with the framework but I believe different lockscreens come from specific roms.

It depends on the lockscreen. I know you can get the AOSP lockscreen for 2.1. If you want the glass lockscreen from one of the other SGS phones you would have to see about it. I have seen an app that was a lockscreen switcher, but I took a quick look in the market and didn't recognize which name it would have been. I attached the android.policy.odex for the AOSP 2.1 lockscreen.
Hey flashman2002,
Could you explain how to use that file?
Thanks
Would I run that .zip as a normal update.zip file?
One app (that costs unfort) that will do this is Widget Locker. It isn't 100% bug free though and your results may vary.
I know Design Gears had a stock lock screen posted on his site at one time for 2.1 ROMS but I dunno if it's there any more.
You would unzip the file I put up. You could the use a file manager like root explorer or astronomical and move the file to its proper place. Back up the original android.policy.odex incase you need it.
This is my captivate. There are many like it but this one is mine.
Hi There,
I've tried searching all over and cannot find anything so please forgive me if I'm asking something that has been asked before...
I am looking at all the wonderful custom roms out there for the Captivate but it seems that some of them do not have the classic Samsung Keyboard. I'm very fond of inputting text via the old school 3x4 portrait style with predictive texting and notice that some of the roms do not have the Samsung Keyboard, which then pretty much rules out that rom for me.
So I was wondering if there is a way to add the 3x4 portrait samsung keyboard to a rom somehow if it wasn't originally built/packaged with it?
Yes, there is definitely a way to do that. It will involve rooting your phone, and finding the .apk of the keyboard into a certain folder with 'Root Explorer'.
I'll see if I can find the Samsung Keyboard .apk for you, and I suggest you getting Root Explorer (or similar) for the time being.
romkitchen.org create an update.zip NOT a full rom. they have the samsung keyboard available! and much more!

Wow!!! That is AWESOME!!!
I'm still a noob so pardon if I ask some potentially obvious questions... *bows head in shame*
I am getting Root Explorer and have not used it before tho have indeed rooted my phone and flashed an existing rom created by others (currently using Serendipity 5.12)
Would this Rom Kitchen method be a simple addition to a current rom via Clock Work Recovery - Reboot into recovery mode - install zip from SD Card type of thing? Or would I have to go into the folder and replace the different files with whatever is generated and rename the file, also as an addition/alteration to a current Rom that I was using?
Or would you basically be generating your own custom Rom altogether with this Rom Kitchen by starting from scratch and selecting each part of the rom yourself like the Base Rom then CSC then Kernel then Modem then Apps Etc and then doing a master clear and flashing this as a brand new rom?
And if the generated file is essentially a brand new Rom altogether, would it be possible if I just generate one with the desired "additions" that I was looking for, open that up, save/copy the additions I wanted and then just customize an existing Rom I really like by swapping out or adding those additions in the appropriate folder?
Thank you to all in advance by the way!!!! I really appreciate the help!!!

the Samsung Keyboards (and all the rest of the keyboards) are under the "Apps" tab area? But I don't know what the difference is between the Samsung Stock JPY and JS3 keyboards? Do both have the portait 3x4?
Oh yeah, I see it now. Weird, I could only see Gingerbread Keyboard before! (Maybe the page didn't load properly).
They don't differ too much, you should be fine with JS3!

That's strange! You're Right!! If you choose "update.zip" as the Base Rom choice (which I assume is just adding onto your existing Rom after playing with this site more) then the Samsung Keyboard Does Disappear from the App Tab Choices!!!
Yeah, I just realised that as well... I might hunt around for you and find the Keyboard's .apk right now
It'll be a different set of instructions, but it won't be "too" hard. Basically the option via my first post in this thread.
If you were to install Serendipity, you could use this:
http://serendipityrom.weebly.com/add-ons.html
The Samsung Keyboard is there.

Yeah... for now I'm just going to use the Serendipity Rom..... Thanks!
Stock Gingersense Debloated (For now)

as i have time i will try to update this but im really new to roms so i might need help.

This has already been done. Liberation ROM by jaykresge here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1087268
Unless you wanted add your own flavor or something
yah i think once i get down how to do it i will add my own flavor but for now i was also thinking of ADDING some apps (rom manager ect.) to make it easier. as i said this is my first rom though.
I think someone should make the stock gingersense with the new 3.0 lockscreen. The new beta gingersense 2.1/3.0 are laggy do to the higher demand on RAM
ill try that. i already deleted some of the APK's but ill see if i can get the 3.0 lockscreen working. thanks for the suggestion
You should give it a try
ok i just tried adding it. im doing a backup then i will see how it works.
EDIT: nvm i dound what i did wrong... i had it all in an extra folder XD

Its kinda hard to know whats wrong with your file. It would be easier to trouble shoot if you gave your steps step by step that you took to make/compile this. Without looking at your file I could take two guesses. 1. Its not zipped properly. 2. Your update-script is messed up somewhere. Check those. Then move forward from there.
Note: If you are using CWM3+ on your test phone then you will have to use edify scripting.
sucessfuly flashed it... booting right now and ill tell you my results
No go on the lockscreen. it just booted as vanilla.
This would be my suggestion. I like the 3.0 lock screen, but it seems to be a memory hog.
What I'd like to see in a 2.1 ROM
-Vanilla lockscreen.
-3.0 Notification bar with slight transparency - white.
-Lots of cool stock looking wallpapers and any other LWP if they don't lag.
-Our KB, not the one with arrows.
Just an over all smooth stock rom.
This is a 1.0 ROM. And to get vanilla in 2.1 go menu>settings>display>stock android lockscreen. Also, the arrows one is in 3.0.
The 3.0 lockscreen will likely never work on DInc GingerSense, unless your name is IHTFP69. It's just incompatible with Sense 1.0.
yea i figured that out... i changed the lockscreen APK and it put in in a bootloop
Hi, I recently installed this rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2055481) on my GTS5570, and runs smoothly y extremely great, but the navbar hides part of the keyboard and it's monsterly huge, so I'm looking for a way of disabling it, if it's possible

today i can't.
but its too easy any noob can do it
Not tried the ROM but this way are working on ICS, JB 4.1, and JB 4.2
1. Open build.prop
2. Add these lines "qemu.hw.mainkeys=1" (without quotes)
3. Reboot
delete launch2.apk and add other launcher that navbar will hide and camera will show images,
you'll only need a camera.apk , i am searching about this now

okay, I have to delete launch2.apk with rom installed, right? I tried to delete it and put another launcher on .zip, but it kept failing all the time trying to install. Strange thing, never had that problem with the tablet. (Maybe the script install every file one by one?)
EDIT: This is disturbing... I fixed the problem with the soft buttons, but even with that, my locales appear messed up (power off appears like reboot, reboot like sound options... and wherever I try to make a call o answer one, FC on phone.apk) (can't post yet on ROM's topic, this is anooying)
R: [Q] [4.0.4] Disabling bottom navigation bar
just go to system folder and open build.prop with root explorer (hold pressed on the file and select open with text editor) and add qemu.hw.mainkeys=1 at the last line(press enter to make a new one)

The thing is that nearly everything works, only truble I have is with the locales on the shutdown menu and that phone.apk doesn't work.
Maybe I'll do that thing, use TheWhisp's CM9 until this gets very stable, 'cause this is really promising

Well, I'll do a nandroid and try new version, I hope this release fix the phone.apk problem and the locales (I've been thinking, and maybe the problem is that Spanish locales are not correctly implemented, or my Galaxy Mini is completely insane.
