Third party Samsung-"PDMI" accessories - Galaxy Tab Accessories

Is any third party accessories announced that utilizes the port on the Galaxy Tab?
(It is similar to PDMI, but not compatible, right?)
I would love to see an adapter to connect usb-devices such as usb memory sticks and digital cameras for backup as well as a hdmi output cable.

i start workin again next week after 2 years of school... goodbye lovely time....
will be coding machines and wanted to make a selfmade hdmi dock for the tab.
...as some excersie after 2 years...
but nobody in here is able to post the pin assignment of his dock or. tv cable.... thanks to the community!!!

Hi
I am also trying to find out more on this matter to make my own "real" hdmi cable for the Tab or experiment with other fun features as sub stick adapter...
The port seems to be a fully PDMI port, don't know if USB 3.0 signaling is there though.
The Dell Streak also use PDMI connector.
PDMI info:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PDMI
USB on tge go OTG:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB_On-The-Go
Displayport info:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DisplayPort
http://www.displayport.org/cms/sites/default/files/downloads/DisplayPort_Technical_Overview.pdf
The PDMI connector features a 2 lane Displayport adapter.
To convert from this adapter You would need a chip that can convert dual lane Displayport to HDMI as most readily adapters use 4 lane Displayport AC level conversions as this chip:'
http://www.st.com/stonline/products/literature/ds/14627.pdf
This is a 2 lane to VGA adpater :
http://www.st.com/internet/com/TECHNICAL_RESOURCES/TECHNICAL_LITERATURE/DATA_BRIEF/CD00214490.pdf
http://www.nxp.com/#/pip/pip=[pip=PTN3392]|pp=[t=pip,i=PTN3392]
This is the Displayport convert chip we want to use:
http://www.paradetech.com/products/displayport-format-converters/displayport-to-hdmidvi-converter/
This is just a quick summary.
The first thing we need is to find a suppier of PDMI contacs instead of ripping apart expensive charger cables to test with.
Other devices that uses PDMI connector:
Dell Streak
Slacker G2

thanks to zab... i finally get a useable tab... all my questions have been anwered :0)
now lets start workin.... i m going to make a stand for mobile and outdoor use.
there are some cheap solar battery extenders out now...
i think video without hdmi should do its job.... look at those tiny mini beamers :0) i own one :0)
ok... now lets reactivate my braincells... hits from the.... .... ....
edit: after a short look at my samsung usb cable..... i have to say its not pdmi standard. :0(
shame on samsung! there are 7 pins used in my cable... ok only 23 left... grrrr

What is the pinout You have measured then?
And does anyone have the videocable so they can measure the pinout on it?
I don't wanna sacrifise my cable until I have a spare one. I've already lost it once and the battery lasts for 3 days. After that it was a long wait until I found it again as I haven't found any spare cable here in Norway yet in the stores.

Belkin have a hdmi cable you can order.
Don't now exactly how it looks, hope it's just transforms the pdmi to a hdmi port where you can mount a standard hdmi cable. But it almost seems like item will be a mini hdmi import.
Have ordered one, hope i will have it ibm some days

edit: nooooooooo!!! you bought an mini hdmi to hdmi cable.... its for the dock... oh man.
there is no pdmi. not in your cable and not in the tab too.
...i was searching in some other forums last night.
it looks like the dell streak has got the only real pdmi pin assignment.
when i look at my tab usb cable the pins that are used are:
3,4 then 7,8 + 15,16 and finally... pin 30 !? ...perhaps they where drunken when doin this...
comparing to pdmi-wiki and dells it looks like samsung only used the size (you can plug it in the dell tablet) but fully messed around the assignment so most of users have to buy a piece of sh... for 50 bucks.... wow!!!
.... ... i bought fruid-salad but i only taste apples.... .... thanksung!

It's NOT a PDMI connector, Samsung have altered it so it's mechanically compatible, but not electrically.
We don't have any specs on the actual pinouts of the Tab connector yet as far as I'm aware.

me dont buy pdmi accessoire :0)

Why can't you buy a usb cable

Does anyone know if you can get a seperate usb cable for the streak yet?
I want a spare one so i can keep it in the car, or a longer one because i find the one that comes with the streak to be too short.
Anyway if anyone knows where to get one then could they let me know
Just had a thought while typing.. just buy a usb extension lead...off to buy one to see if it works.
yes Dell sell them on their website mate
Another option is a USB extention cable. I got a 6FT for like $10 at RadioShack. Works great for me, you can also buy the Dell car kit that will work as a backup USB cable.
Is there a way to buy a compatible one?
I live in italy and we can order only from dell.it that obviusly hasn't streak and accessories in their site....

Well it has recently been confirmed that the streaks connection port is a PDMI connection. The Slacker G2 radio also uses a PDMI but no one has tried its cable yet. Specs are one thing but fitting is another. (Think of it how the first iPhone had a 3.5mm headset jack but you had to buy the apple headphones that didn't an elbow and were narrow enough to fit in there.)
So if anybody has, or knows someone that has a Slacker G2, feel free to try the cable out and tell us all
Source:
http://www.streaksmart.com/2010/08/dell-streaks-proprietary-connector-is-actually-pdmi.html
Images that I can find for the slacker 2 radio charging lead seem to show a standard mini usb connector. Maybe the pdmi connector is data only?
can u use the ones on ebay?
Now i ordered another one from Dell site....
With only one cable, I finally ran out of patience and also constant carrying existing cable from place to place everytime I moved around.....
I have to have one near my bed for reading/charging thru the night....one in the car - which I will carry around to office as well...in the coming months hopefully the price will drop or there will be another source - till then this will do.

Samsung USA HDMI Multimedia Dock

Searched, didn't see this mentioned yet. From what I've read, it will have a Mini-HDMI instead of a full size HDMI port. Will the appropriate Mini to Full adapter / cable be provided with the dock? I'm expecting to have to source this extra part from somewhere like Monoprice, etc.
Anyone have it or know it's ETA / approx USD cost?
ive seen the dock and yes the dock has hdmi built into it but there was no price or location to purchase i think i seen it on the tmo site but its a new device and accessoies i dont think samsung started to make them yet so give it a few months before lookin for them
Most of the Galaxy Tab accessories are available here:
http://www.expansys-usa.com/s.aspx?sid=27342851&man=SAMSU&search=galaxy tab
I've got one and yes it has a Mini HDMI port, and there are no cables added to the original samsung provided package, just the dock and some papers.
And, keep in mind that you need external power attached to the dock to get the HDMI output active. So, could be a good idea to get an extra power supply.

Nope, you can use the original GT supplied travel charger plug into the back of the Desktop Dock.
Anyone got a part number for the HDMI cable? It looks like an odd size mini HDMI...

Streak adapter for iFail Accessories...

Since the cable idea didn't work out, I decided to work on a couple of other items for the Streak.
I have spec'd out an adapter for us, so that we could use the immensely huge iFail (iphone/ipod/ipad) accessory market. Things like Speaker/radio docks, et al.
We would plug our usb end into the adapter, and the other end of the adapter is fitted with a 30 pin apple female connector. I am also adding micro/mini usb..so that the adapter can be used with more devices Please tell me what you think about the cord length.
PLEASE NOTE: In this picture, the iphone end is "male"..it would be FEMALE for us!!
How about no cable but a jack type affair on the adapter so you could plug a cable into the adapter? or a short tail with plug for cable?

That is what I really wanted..... but it is very difficult for the factory to do, and would not be cost effective....like 5x the price (without even knowing the price yet...lol)

How many pins do you plan on passing though?
USB/Power/Line out?
I'd be interested in an adapter too.
Best would be a small Female Dock <-> Male PDMI block (but as you said it might be unreasonably expensive)
How about a Female Dock <- short cable -> Male PDMI cable? Is that the plan?
Have you inquired about a simple Male PDMI <-> micro (or mini, i forget which is which) block? Along the lines of this but with PDMI/USB. Or also as a short cable of it's not reasonable price?
If you can only do a short cord + 2 connectors like the picture, can you do just like the picture of about ~1 inch?
I'm definitely interested in seeing how this plays out

This current plan (still working on actual dock too, separately) is:
Female iFail 30 pin <--cable --> Female Standard USB + Female Mini USB + Female Micro USB (so it appeals to more devices)
Planning on Charging/Sync/Audio
Does that answer it?
Sounds good to me. Count me in.
May I suggest a Male PDMI -> Female USB Block/Cable for connecting USB accessories to the Streak? USB Keyboards work by default, the block would just need a short wire to connect pins 2 and 4 of the PDMI together (I believe) to activate USB Host mode.
I think it already exists. Isn't this what you are looking for: cablejive.com/products/Universal-Dock-Converter.html
still would be better for an adapter that plugged into the streak and had female micro/mini.
Something low profile that could potentially be left plugged in and left in place.
Start with a naked streak and if popular make ones for a otterbox defender/commuter, etc

This is why the internet is so important...lol Thanks for finding this "unicorn"
I searched and searched and searched but could not find it, so I decided to possibly have it made. This is very similar to what I was thinking. Differrences would be the addition of mini & micro usb female connectors with my idea. Also hoping to make it sleeker with just one cord...and for a much better price.
In addition to that, this particular site says:

I don't see how that can work.
You need the 30-pin PDMI connector on one end, and the Apple connector on the other. Here's the Streak's pinout http://linuxslate.com/#Dell_Streak_PDMI_Pinout and here's the Apple pinout http://www.allpinouts.org/index.php/Apple_iPod,_iPad_and_iPhone_dock
If it's simply going to connect USB to the Apple connector, then it will only be able to pass USB's 4 pins of data and power - there'll be no video or audio output. What's more, there are already adaptors on the market for USB to Apple, like the one already mentioned http://www.cablejive.com/products/Universal-Dock-Converter.html
Both PDMI and apple dock connectors support line out for audio, only thing it wouldnt take advantage of is video out and USB-OTG
At least what i was interested in was a PDMI <-> Dock directly
This is an intriguing project. I have a question about accessory compatibility.
I've been desperately trying to work out an external, powered mic set up for the Streak. I've established that the headphone jack, like iProducts, doesn't supply phantom power. iProducts got around this by using their dataport to power attached microphones. So in theory, this solution could connect to an iMic and supply the same power.
Here's the q: Is just having a powered mic attached via dataport (through the adapter cable) enough? Or work a supporting app have to be written to tell the device that there's a mic there and also handle the supporting software to make it work?
PDMI only supplies line out from what we know, nor does it have power out.
Even if it could do both, wouldnt it drain the battery pretty quickly?
All I care for is a line out and the charging. Who gives a damn for the video and other stuff. I care more for the pure acoustic bliss.
I would like it to just lie and say its apple so my car play music from it.. using then ipod interface..

MHL cable anywhere?

Has anyone found a compatible mhl cable to order?

Samsung works great
I bought the one from Samsung original, amazing 1080p quality, best I ever saw on my 40 inch television.
It's the one that samsung offers for S2 and S3 and it works really perfect, no lag, no glitches and it gives amazing high quality.

I retried it and great video and audio. Sorry. But only in 720P. My TV it's HD-Ready and not FULL-HD.
My MHL adapter it's a simple model compatible with GS2 and I bought on eBay one year ago. I payed it only 10 euros.
I can see some of you having success in display it on the TV
but I have try two different MHL adapter (I dont know if it is for S2 or S3 but I can;t seem to get it work on a computer monitor with HDMI
are there any sitting I need to change or apps that I need to install???
Maybe some settings in the hidden menu will do the trick for those where it doesn't work (not tested, since I don't own a MHL-Adapter)
Type: 3845#*880# in the phone app and the hidden menu will open. Scroll to the end and choose "HDMI Resolution Test"
There are some Settings, maybe something will make the Adapter work
will try
Hey,
I am occurring the same problem, and its annoying, but credit to Hidden92 in the "resolution" menu under "HDMI Resolution Test" , i have changed resolution to any of them and only once the email on my Samsung TV appeared.
Also i have noticed that the settings that i am selecting doesnt saved and each time i am getting into "HDMI Resolution Test" menu , the settings rolled back to default.
Well...
Anyway , you should try to do this , the less it will work for you
=====EDIT======
I have managed to Play movies using MHL cable.
it has been some connector problem, i have moved the cable abit left to right and it begin to work.
Hey MrWunderbaum,
I own 4X and using Generic MHL cable 1080p that was bough for 15$.
Everything works fine.
You should try.
In Addition, LG owns their own MHL cables , but they are abit more expensive.
I tried and mhl 3M cable that is supposed to charge the cell phone while you project, but the problem is that it must be connected to energy to work. the cable is supposed to be designed for samsung SIII and SII
Sorry for hijacking this thread a little bit and pardon my rant.
Not too long ago i bought a mini HDMI to HDMI cable for my Optimus 3D. But now im using 4X, I can't help but feel i've been f**king trolled by LG somewhat cause that cable i had is now utterly useless. Instead they are using this MHL cable.
i mean, why can't they put a mini HDMI port for the good of saving the planet and our wallets like what they are doing for microUSB?
I've got few questions in mind. Are they going to introduce another cable for their next line-up? Is this MHL port here to stay? Nobody wants to spend 30 bucks buying a cable and to have it put out of the picture by the time he change phone next year.

MHL will stay I guess. Mini-HDMI is actually quite useless, it is necessary to add an additional port to the phone for something that can be done using the already existing one (less places where dust can get into the device). The only problem is the high price for MHL cables (The mini-HDMI adapter for my O2X was about 3€).
Cheap and good
I use this: http://goo.gl/13LEr

I have ordered myself S2 mhl adapter that also has seperate charging port. I dont need long wire as i already have long hdmi cable connected to tv, so i just needed smaller adapter to connect to tv hdmi cable. Hope it works - mhl + charging

Powered USB hubs

Hi everyone.
I'm about to buy a powered USB hub with 4 ports... it's a hub that draws its own power from a wall socket, so it doesn't have to draw current from the Galaxy Note.
Would it work? I'd connect it to the note via an USB OTG cable, and plug it in a wall socket... then connect my A4Tech mouse and flexible keyboard (both wired, of course) to it... It should work, right?
For what it's worth, the USB Hub I'm going to buy is this one. Not really famous . Oh yeah, the page is in Romanian language...
Just did a google search and found these.. Link, and link 2
So i think it should work..

Saw that video... was surprised to see an external storage device works in parallel with a wireless mouse receiver! Didn't know the latter would even be supported!
Oh well, I've seen people saying that the S2 provides a bit more power through OTG... hence it would work with multiple devices.
Guess I'll see for myself tomorrow... will get a chance to test the hub before I buy it. Fingers crossed . I'm one step closer to turning my phone into a real computer, haha .
If it draws power from the wall socket it means that your portable hard drives should work as well.

Alright, so I bought an USB OTG cable and the above mentioned USB hub.
The USB hub has one mini-USB port, one 5V power supply port, and 4 different USB 2.0 ports.
I have a lot of Nokia chargers... neither fit in the 5V power supply port!
So... since I don't own a USB 2.0 A-A cable, I cannot connect the hub to a mini-USB charger and the OTG cable at the same time.
I figured I could use a USB 2.0 A-A cable to connect the OTG cable to one of the 4 ports of the Hub, while it is drawing current from a mini-USB charger, but... I don't have such a cable.
I'll return the USB hub tomorrow.
I found a PlayStation 3 bluetooth keyboard which also has a mouse (tiny track"ball") and I think I'm going to buy that...
I wish there were USB hubs with their own power adapters / chargers on the market... that would NOT cost $100 .
Yup. I'm done.
I returned the USB Hub, and I sold the USB OTG cable to a friend (instead of returning it to the seller, who would probably be stunned by the fact that I'd have wanted to return such a simple thing, lol).
I guess I'm done with these sorts of things, at least for the time being.
Instead of hooking up a mouse & keyboard with insanely long wires and get entangled in them and choke myself to death... (if I get to make it work)... I'll rather buy a $30 PS3 bluetooth keyboard with a mouse track"ball".
Oh well...
