Updated Changelog
2.1.1
- Fixed bug where notifications were not clearing properly.
2.1
- Added Preferences panel for enabling and disabling different notification features
- Automatically detect and disable itself for MyTouch/Magic/Sapphire devices (should eliminate FCs)
- compatible with ROMs with modified build.prop files
2.0.3
- Fix for multiple notifications. Should properly keep track of existing and any new notifications when clearing (especially for Google Talk)
- smaller footprint
2.0.2
- Major fix for length of LED notifications. Should blink until phone gets plugged in or until you accept them.
- reordered versions for clarity.
2.0.1
- Added Trackball notifications to light Green LEDS (should work for SMS, missed calls, voicemails, etc. Make sure to enable in Settings/Sound and Display)
- Added additional color information from Missed Call LEDS.
- Logging enhancements to capture information while plugged in
2.0
- Original release
Install information - add "-r" to adb install command to overwrite previous release. Reboot and you're good to go.
This will be the final build for this app. There's a few ROMs available with custom build.prop settings that will automatically enable the LEDs for almost all of the Hero functions. For the notifications it doesn't do, this app will intercept those notifications and light up the normal LEDs on G1 devices.
It will no longer constantly FC on MyTouch/Magic/Ion/Sapphire users, but it will no longer run as well since it is not needed for those systems (afaik).
By default, the only setting that is enabled is the Hero notifications. You will have to launch the preference application that is now included and turn on both the Charging LEDs and the normal notification LEDs if they aren't automatically being lit already. A reboot isn't required to start if you launch the preference app.
Credits - Shafty for the hard work (as well as a dozen others), jinx for the scheduling program, and manup for the icon.
So, try it out and see if it works if you're interested.
Tried to install this, but didnt see an APK. Where is it?
Awesome, when do you think the final version will be released?
It installed fine but once it did I couldn't find the app?

I'm confused. How did you install it?
Strange... I opened the file on download instead of saving the zip, and there it was. Rebooting now.
Ok, this is the winner. Everything works perfectly!!! Finally true LED support for Hero on the G1. Amazing.
I unzipped the .apk, mounted my phone and put it into the root folder, than installed through ASTRO and it installed just fine. After I rebooted it's not appearing in my apps anywhere. What did I do wrong? I did not have any prior HeroLED app on my phone prior to installing this. It appears in my apps when I got into Settings>Applications>Manage Applications. It's not appearing in the actual app menu though. Help?
Hey, how can I remove my old existing HeroLED.apk? In Manage Apps I'm only able to stop the process but remove button is inactive!? My Device is a HTC Magic (Vodafone Germany).

There's no app for this one (yet). Everything is done automatically after boot.

Sounds like its hung. You may have to remove it manually. Check either in /data/app or /data/app_s. Remove a file there called HeroLED.apk then reboot. Then you should be able to remove it normally.

Its pretty close to final as it is. The only things still left undetermined is MT3G support and how well it performs after the phone 'goes to sleep.'
Those are the only things I anticipate to do some final tweaking for. I've been using it for the better part of 2 weeks, and I can't tell the difference between BFS issues and my app issues; so I'm posting it here for extended evaluation.

Thank you for clearing that up. After I restarted and didn't see it in the app tray I was afraid it was a bad install.
Just to be sure, this works with jac-heroski 2.2b or a?Ill want to get a g1 i currently dont have any android phones yet.
The only problem...
The only problem I have with this is that it doesn't flash for new text messages, is it just me or is this already known?
P.s. I tried using Missed Call, but all the LED's come out red.

It should for any Hero rom, provided there isn't a led app already installed.

If text messages are configured to flash the leds, it should. The color is picked depending on what the app is configured for.
Post or send me a logcat when those messages are coming in. Its possible its using a flag my app isn't configured for.
I'll do that but could you tell me how to do logcat, I don't know how
Connect via usb and if you have the android SDK run adb logcat and direct the output to a file.
Prior to that make sure under Settings/Sound and Display/Notification Flash that the items are checked off.
I may have a fix for this I'll be uploading shortly, just need some confirmations.
I'm an idiot...
nevermind I read what you said wrong, but adb says that it can't make output file read-only file system

Ok, I have been playing around with the Wireless Tether for Root User and got it to work on the Droid Eris!
For those who don't know what this is useful for, it allows your phone to be a gateway/router and broadcast your 3G/Edge network to other devices such as a laptop.
To get this to work, you must have 2.1 with root and flashed custom rom "Rooted 2.1 v0.3"
To get to this point, follow this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=647707
Once you are to this point, grab "wireless_tether_1_70-pre2_htc.apk" from http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list?can=2&q=HTC+Donut
Make sure you allow Apps from unknown sources to be installed. (Menu > Settings > Applications > Unknown sources).
Install the app. Depending on how you acquired the download, use the browser download list, Astro Browser, Android Mate ect.
When launching the app, Superuser Whitelist will pop-up. Click always allow.
Congratulations! Now you can use your phone as a router for other devices.

I had success using "wireless_tether_1_70-pre2_htc.apk", but other versions might work also. You might get this to work without flashing the custom rom but you will have to have Superuser Whitelist, which I had trouble doing.
awesome tutorial for people that weren't sure. I added it to photex-media with working links and all =) thanks again.
any reason you went the 1.7 version as opposed to wireless_tether-2_0-pre8? I've been runnning 2.0.8 for a day or two now on and its been great.

Oh I was having problems, and after I flashed the rom, that was the 1st one I tried and it worked. I will try other versions too.
Fair enough, just wasn't sure if you knew something that I didn't about the wifi chip or something. Sorry to be a stickler.
Ive got it installed and when i load it, a panel pops up saying "SU request" but it either doesn't show anything or Force closes. Is my recovery messed up?
I don't know that it would directly be a result of your recovery, generally that's not what is running the SU program. It would be helpful to know what ROM you're currently running, as well as what version of the tether you're trying to run.
im running ivans 2.1 v0.3 and i tried the 1.7pre2 apk and the 2.0pre8. With the 1.7pre2 it force closed at the SU request and 2.0pre8 it just doesn't show anything at SU request and somewhat freezes.
EDIT!!::: i have no idea why but my usb debugger setting got switched off so i switched it back on and i can start the program and it looks like it is working, but no wireless device ive tried can see the phone as a accesspoint. BTW now i am using the 1.7pre2 version

Once in a while my laptop can't find it either so I do a combo of restarting the latop/phone/service until I get it all working together. If I am correct, the set up is a point to point network so how you are configured might effect it but I might be wrong. Another app that works pretty well for wifi tethering is aNetShare. One last thing, make sure that the app has SU permissions. If you can't get it to work, try figuring out variables, like do you have wifi/bluetooth/gps on? I have no clue if this effects anything, just tossing out ideas.

is there a limit to how much data i can use.. like with this tethering app.. will verizon charge me extra if i use alot of data with this program
If you aren't on a rom with ifconfig in /system/bin/ifconfig:
go to adb shell
get root (su)
type ln -s "/system/xbin/busybox ifconfig" /system/bin/ifconfig
That should clear it up.

If you have an unlimited data plan on your phone, then no there is no limit to how much data your phone could use. Call Verizon and ask if you wanna be sure. BUT, you arent supposed to be using this data connection on your pc without adding the feature to your plan which is more money. So if you hook this up and start downloading/uploading large amounts of data (bittorent, video streaming, ect) then is POSSIBLE to get yourself into trouble as it would unusual for a phone to use gigs in gigs of bandwidth in a week.

As far as I understand, with 2.2 task killers became almost useless in killing tasks.....correct me if I am wrong....
I have some apps on my phone that use lots of data connection and drain battery and every time i kill them, they come back again. So I was thinking instead of killing the app, maybe i can prevent in from accessing data connection. Is there an app for this ?
Can you tell me where you got that info about task killers not working in froyo? Cause I've noticed that And can't find any info about it.

I had Advanced Task Manager and developer noted that in 2.2 OS works differently and therefore task manager doesnt really do the job. Then in here, market comments, and google, i also found the same info.
droidwall is a firewall for rooted phones works good as long as you remember to turn to add or remove exceptions.
theres also apn droid that turns data on/off out right

I see. I got the same response from the system panel developer. I made a thread about it here but didn't get all the answers.
Do you know if this is a permanent change with the way froyo handles apps and multi tasking? Or is this just something temporary because It's not the final froyo release? I'm very curious.

Moved to the Q&A forum.
Hello everyone! I am the developer of Prepay Widget, a powerful app that allows you to monitor your account balance through USSD requests.
You can find more info about USSD on Wikipedia, but basically these are short, SMS-like messages used by most GSM and some CDMA providers to deliver information
or control account services. The actual information comes to you in the form of popup toasts, which thids app hides and parses into widgets.
You can find the apps landing page on XDA at the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12348102
However, i want to stress that its important that we get some device-specific feedback, so please post in this thread if you have issues,
this helps me keep track of bugs and requests better.
You can use the Lite version of the app - it has all the functionality of the full version apart from automatic updates (not really that important imo).
As I haven't got one of these phones in my pocket, I need some testers to track down problems. Please, use this thread to comment or
suggest features. It is my belief that addressing issues is best done individually by phone, so if something doesn't work, let me know and I will fix it ASAP.
Market link:
https://market.android.com/details?id=fahrbot.apps.ussd.widget.lite
Debugging:
Please use the "Write to developer" item in the Settings menu to send logs. Enable debugging, reproduce your error and then send the logs.
Make sure you include a description - the more detailed the description the better.
Screens:
I have updated the app - please let me know if this fixes any issues!
Any issues to report before we start working on a new build?
Nope, working very well for me!
Thats good to know. Any suggestions?
Sounds interesting but unfortunately doesn't work here. I am on sense 3.5 with 2.3.5 base. When I try to add widget, it asks me to select indicator and clicking on indicator combo doesn't bring any item. So eventually it fails to add widget on screen.
Can you please send me a log using the debugging options in the app? That would help a lot.

No i mean our internal logging daemon. In the app click "enable debug mode", then reproduce the process of making the indicator and then go back to settings and click "write to developer".
Make sure you include a description so i know what to look for in the logs.

Hello guys,
I'm looking for a decent app that monitors and prevents certain processes from automatically starting. I'm not looking for a "killer", which reacts after the processes has started. I'm looking for a way that can stop certain processes from starting by itself. The best example would be: my FM Radio would start by itself?! And I don't want that, because I rarely listen to it, yet I still need it there, only when I manually open it up and listen to the radio...
The information from my search are heavily mixed up and some are extremely old (dated back to 2009), yet the newer ones are mostly vague in terms of a verdict as to what the best solution is.
I would appreciate your input and insights, and click that Thanks button generously
an app that i can suggest you is rom toolbox pro. one of its many functions is disabling the programs' autostart. i have to tell you that i haven't used this function yet, because i'm a bit noob and i wouldn't like to reflash the rom. the app is a bit expensive, but there is also the trial version, so before buying it, you can see if it is what you are searching for.
Thanks for your reply!
If I understood correct, you couldn't use the "anti-autostart" function because you haven't rooted yet?
I agree, ROM Toolbox Pro is a fine tool, and does this.
Before I started messing with ROMs, I just used Autostart. It does only this. What it also does is allow you to turn off the 'listeners' each app has for certain events.
For installed apps, you can often just disable all listeners to stop them popping up when they like and chew into my battery. For system apps, be more careful (or leave them). Most event names will mean nothing, so use with care. I try them one at a time and make sure everything still works, typically.
I think that is more comprehensive that ROM Toolbox, although that does a lot more. I have bought both anyway, and both are available for free to try out.
I seriously recommend DroidWall as well. It gives you control over what app can use what method, or none, to access the internet. A Must-Have, IMO.

I think you can use the 'don't start' without Root. You cannot block the listeners until you have Root, so it is probably a waste of time. They'll just pop right up again whenever they wish.
Great, Jerome! ROM toolbox downloading
'Autostarts' works fine for me.
Using Autostarts here as will.
System tuner pro is also a very useful tool for app- and task-handling and many other things too.

I encountered a problem in ROM Toolbox though:
In Auto Start Manager, when I either try to disable an event or application, it says "disabling connectivity changed...", and loads from there infinitely. (more than 10 minutes). I ended up force quit it every time. Open it up again, it does show the event/application chosen was disabled, but I don't know if I have to force quit it everytime... Does anybody have any experience like this?
Have your superuser works perfact?
Anybody have a delayed response on the ICS leak roms with autostart settings?
I.e. In gemini app manager and rom toolbox, when you toggle autostart, it takes like 10 seconds before you can carry on.
Like a delay in acquiring superuser rights.
I do suspect it has to do with the rather rushed root kernel by CF, but I can live with it ;-)

Do you get a popup from SuperUser requesting rights for Rom Toolbox when you start it the fist time? If so,m check the 'always' box and press 'OK'. You should get a message ('toast') saying access granted if you start the app again.
This assumes you have Root. If you do not, and you still get events disabled by ROM Toolbox, you have discovered a new 'exploit' that Rom Toolbox is using!
Best one I've ever used is App Manager. Doeing everything you said you need

Yes, it is working fine. I checked su's log, and it shows the permission was granted.
Also, now that the toolbox has another issue. It won't save settings. For example, somehow my email initiator application was disabled (never set it that way), and when I press it to enable it, it says success. But after reboot, the email application is gone (in home screen and app drawer), and I open the toolbox to check it, it's still disabled. I temporarily solved this issue by deny the toolbox's permission in SU, but this is obviously not a permanent fix.
I emailed the author, but there's no response yet. So please help me
Many thanks!

Delays in mine also, except that it never finishes. The longest I waited was 60 minutes, and it still says please wait...

Sorry, I should've stated this clearly in the OP. I am rooted with ChainFire's kernel, I also have the toast notification poped up (already set it at the first time as "OK" and "always")
But it always says please wait...and never recovers. Pressing the "back" button has no response, pressing home button will let me go back to homescreen but the toolbox is still running in background, and if I open it up again, it's still at "please wait" status, which is why i always had to end it up in force quitting..
Also, in my last post, I described this new issue: it won't save settings on quit (or on system restart). I disable or enable certain events, after the restart, the event was still blocked, and the app icon was gone. I could only get my Email app (samsung stock) back by denying the toolbox's permission in SU.
Im using Android Assistant..
its free in the android market.. it takes 1 minute boot time for the app to load and you can manually shutdown/disable all running apps (that would load always everytime you boot up your phone)

Sounds like a severe problem. I would try one of the others suggested, they appear just as good. Autostart always does what I want without issues too. I do not use ROM Toolbox for blocking listeners, just for ROM utilities.

It is good and useful, but it does not block listeners. If you do not do that, the apps will just pop up again.
