Hi All
Had my HD7 for a few weeks now and im liking it, used to be an IPhone user but thats all changed now.
One thing i want to know is that the HD7 is stated as having wireless N capabilities. When im on my wireless N network at home im getting really slow responses from the browser or when downloading apps from the market place (like im on GPRS or non wifi). I have a wireless N network setup and also have 50mb Cable so its not a problem with the LAN/WAN as i can download lightening fast with the lappy or even when i had the Iphone on the same LAN.
Anyone else noticed that the wifi is not very fast? Also is there a "speed test" app that can tell me the sorta speed im getting, used to be one on the Iphone, but obviously cant be flash based, which are most on the web. Did find one non flash based site but im not convinced its that good.
Any advise is appreciated.
I use tracert's non-flash based bandwidth meter and seem to get low reading as well. my max. bandwidth is 15 Mbps yet my HD7 usually tests well below 10 Mbps. Odd. In terms of downloads though, my HD7 is speedy. I downloaded NFS from Xbox Live and calculated it was downloading at about 1 MB/s (which is fair for a 15 Mbps connection). So maybe the speed tests are off.
no problems for me.
It's weird that on IE on the HD2 you could use speedtest.net to test speeds, but on the hd7, it says you don't have the proper flash installed....
Hd 7 dosent support flash yet, maybe with update next year.. as far as I know this is the best device for my wifi although its not N
Hero used to struggle with my wifi but the hd 7 is super brilliant..
Just love it on this one
No problems here. And when it comes to browsing this thing is a pure joy ! Imagine when they will update the browser with Flash 10.1 and overall speed. I browsed today a little longer then usual and when I got home and turned my PC on it all felt boring. This is the first time I am experiencing a far more enjoyable browsing on my phone rather than my PC.
They have done an amazing job
mmm must just be mine then, an app from marketplace on the phone took about 3 minutes to download while on wifi and its just a small notes app. Weird! Ill keep having a look at whats going on.
It's surely something with your phone or with the WLAN. When I am home I am browsing only via WiFi and in my room I only get low signal but even then it runs pretty fast.
I have to disable cellular data and 3g to make my WiFi fast on my hd7. I'm on tmobile and in an edge coverage area. It seems that the phone prefers cellular data over WiFi even when there is a clear speed advantage in WiFi.
I have experienced zero problems with the HD7 over wifi. This is also with T-Mobile coverage in an edge only area. Settings allow for all network types including 3G.
Well im surprised because my experience in Puerto Rico with the hd7 on the internet speed its noe the best.
When use the app's for speed test never come colse to 1 mega and the faster speed its around 400 kpbs its T-Mobile or the phone really i'm think its the phone because my wife have an Lg optimus with android and the same t-mobile but the speed its around 1.2 and 1.5 mbps so if any one have the solutions wow i'm apreaciate to hear about.

Does anyone knows what's the actual wi-fi speed, wich the Kaiser is capable of?
If the hotspot speed is 25 Mbits/s etc., will the Kaiser suports that?
Can anyone compare the w-fi speed with SAMSUNG SGH-i600, on the i600 according to http://gsm.mag-city.ru the speed is approx. 1 MByte/s?
Thanks
Tried your posted site for speed test, but it's all in Russian ??? Anyone know of a mobile site for comparisons.
Use that url directly on the PDA device it will detct the speed via UMTS/HSDPA or WI-FI:
http://www.dslreports.com/mspeed?jisok=1
Ok I got 140 Kbit/sec and a .686s latency from The Netherlands on T-Mobile 3G.
You should not use 3G when testing the Wi-Fi speed.

oops missed that bit, got 1003 K/bits on that.
Is it rue that the wi-fi speed available on the PDA depends from the CPU speed?
Davebravey, how fast is your WLAN accsess is it as fast as the TYTN II WLAN adapter or faster (than 1003 Kb/s)?
My main connection is 6Mb/s - 768 Kb/s ADSL, Using a 54G WiFi AP and I was less than a meter away when i done the test.
Can you do the same test but on your PC web browser?
Is it reporting the same speed?
I mean the same speed as the TYTN II?
Doesn't work on my PC web browser, connections too fast
Choose the option "larger file->1 MB"
still too fast
OK thanks, anyway do you think your PDA is brawsing with slower speed than the one wich capable of-6Mb/s are enough suitable for the TYTN II's wi-fi?
I find it a little slower than my laptop when connected to the same router.
Happy to find this thread as I'm seeing problems with wifi speed on my Kaiser. It works ok when you're right next to the AP but speed quickly falls as you move away, say 10 meters or walk around the house if you look at the Wifi menu the level quickly falls and the speed drops down to 1Mbps (about 140kbps on dslreports). This is not the case with the old PDAs I have hanging around like the Axim X50, HTC Galaxy, HP 6915 or the Qtek 9000. And yes I pushed the wifi slider all the way left for maximum performance.
I'm suprised that no review (at least those I found) mentioned that or maybe it's my unit that has a problem. The "x" is shot on the keyboard so I need to have it changed, will report back with any improvement.
The good news is that HSDPA speed is good, 500+ on dslreports and bursts at 800+ using GPRS Monitor, but that won't help if you're abroad.
Why are you all so bothered what speed you are getting? LOL
You hardly need fast access for browsing or even streaming a video
Not sure why you bothered posting this, but obviously I bothered to post because it's a problem to me, like not being able to stream a 160kbps MP3 file where I usually do it with the old HTC Galaxy. Now if we can get back on topic ?
hello yall.
I'm experiencing the same problems with my kaiser (vodaphone branded v1615). i'hve checked my bandwidth being at 50 cm ob the router and and i've an average of 700 kb. being in my bed (approx 4 meter) it falls at 300 kb. The problem is that i can surf on the web being on my bed + i can't run viewerVnc to control my desktop. Anyone has any idea ?
I'm currently running the stock AT&T Rom (Windows Mobile 6.0) without bloatware on my Tilt. I'm running the newest Slingbox (1.6) for Pocket PC.
I currently have 2 "H" signal where I watch my slingplayer, but either my phone or the signal is screwy.
When watching I will have bursts of good framerate, but constant freezing, and choppy playback.
I've tried all sorts of combinations of settings.
I've tried the slingplayer auto optimization, I've set my bit rate to a variety of amounts, and frame rates, as well as with and without the GDI rendering. I've tried just about every combo of settings in the player. I do know that this is not on the slingbox's end though, as it works great from computers when remote viewing..
I've changed my KaiserTweak settings (such as TCP windows size) but none of those improve it.
I've even set my bitrate to the lowest possible it still freezes off and on. I've gotten to the point where I think it must be the phone that is causing this.
I'm surprised I don't see more people with this issue.
Does anyone have any suggestions that may improve this for me?
what is the lowest bw that slingplayer have? if you are using edge, you'll have to be able to go as low as 40kbps... also, what is your upstream bw limited to? try connecting via wifi & see if you are still having problems.
i use orb to stream my tv tuner & prefer not to waste money on slingplayer...
If you want to see if it's the phone or the signal, plug it into a computer on the network of your SlingBox and use the ActiveSync connection. At least that way, if it works great you know it's a singal/bandwidth issue, and if it's still screwy, you know it's your phone.
Personally, mine ran fine on the AT&T stock Rom for quite a while, and I didn't really notice any issues....but I usually had at least 3 or 4 H bars when I was using it. Right now I'm running a cooked 6.1 rom and it works great on that too, but you should still be able to get decent playback with stock.
Another thing to try (this might sound odd), but try disabling HDSPA. There could be a chance that you actually get better signal with 3G than with H (and 3G is still enough speed for a smooth picture).
Have you tried it on a Wireless LAN? Mine works no problem at all either on 3g or wireless lan.
odd.... I have edge so I dont sling unless I find wifi or travel out of my city to a 3g or better area. But when I was on "H" it was near wifi quality with no hiccups. Try wifi and try ruling out at&t's network.
SlingBox Rules. One of the greatest purchases I've ever made. I like connecting to my friends slingbox in oregon to watch Pac 10 college football games! Go Trojans
Well I connected my phone to my wifi at home (network my box is on) - and it was better, but still not great. Maybe I'm just expecting too much.
Even at home my frame-rate was fairly choppy. I tried Auto optimization, and many variations of bit-rate and other settings (GDI).
Is there any setting in KaiserTweak that may actually slow internet? Such as TCP window size, or resends (Data/Connect)? (Would the GDI/Font Cache help with slingplayer any since it's using GDI rendering?
Thanks for the suggestions so far guys. It may just be this spot were I sit at work has a shakey signal strength or something.
If anyone has any other suggestions please let me know - Thanks.
@Valtamr: I did try disabling H once a few weeks back, and for that day I thought it was better, but later it started acting up again. Do you know why H might sometimes be worse?

I'm not really sure why that could be the case. I just know that in certain places I can get a very different level of signal strength between E and H (E is full strength, but only 2 bars of H), so I thought that could possibly also be the case between H and 3G (maybe you could get 4 bars of 3G where you only could get 2 bars of H). So yeah....I don't have a whole lot of knowledge behind that, but I figured it was an easy enough test to try....just trying to help you troubleshoot.
Have you tried it in non full screen? Full screen I get crappy playback but in non full screen its pretty much perfect.

I'm not surprised by that, when you do that it's a smaller resolution - which uses less bandwidth.
I'll try again next work-week (couldn't test today) to see if any of these suggestions helped. At the point I'm assuming that I have some network issues where I sit.
Well, I did try the suggestions a few weeks back but no change. I still assume where I sit at work has some signal issues.
I did notice however that even at home on my wifi my frame-rate was still choppier than it should have been. This I have attributed to the poor video playback on the Tilt.
In any case, I did discover something helpful here: I updated to the official AT&T 6.1 ROM and noticed a drastic improvement. Although the video playback is not where it should be for the phone, it did improve the Slingplayer quality greatly.
I could instantly notice the video looked smoother and more consistent. I now can go 1-2 hours of slingplaying with only 1 or 2 hiccups, and those have been very minor.
I think my earlier troubles were a mix of the phone performance and the signal. But the 6.1 change has really helped out.
I need to try the HTC CA drivers and see if it helps anymore. I did notice that the Samsung Omnia ones "seemed" to help some (back on 6.0) - but I know it was not supposed to, so maybe I just had a lucky streak of good signal or something.

I am having trouble using Orb on my Tilt. I can watch videos/tv through my wifi but not on the gprs EDGE network. You guys are saying that it's working for you. What am I doing wrong? Every time I click on video or tv channel it opens up WMP and says "paused" then eventually says "The server is busy or is not responding. Try again later." I have tried everything.

Well, I can't speak for Orb.....but yeah, I said streaming video is working for me. What I DIDN'T say is that streaming video is working for me on EDGE. So what are you doing wrong?.....you are trying to get streaming video to work over a connection that is too slow for it. You need to have a decent 3G (preferably HSDPA) connection to be able to use this sort of thing - EDGE simply wasn't made to do what you are trying to do.
I am experiencing the same issue on a brand new Sprint Touch pro with slingplayer 1.6. The phone is an EVDO rev-a device and I still get low framerate, dropping datarate, etc, then sometimes it falls back to the 1x network. I tried wifi connected to a WRT54g and it definitely stabilized but the kbps averaged 245 to 330 at 14 FPS. My Windows xp client averages about 745 kbps on the same internet connection.
I tried it at home where the slingbox truly resides, connected to wifi and there were still low results. I thought for sure it would go over 1000 kbps. There has to be some network throttling going on on Windows Mobile.
Any others out there experiencing this? Any other tweaks that someone else may discovered?
I get the same, tethered to my laptop I get impeccable performance.
The same 3g connection on my tilt stutters on full screen, i generally enable slingstream optimisation and gdi rendering which helps.
There is a new Mobile Client in the pipeline.... although if its a driver issue the tilt is screwed either way, because on my Blue Angel over wifi slingplayer is perfect, as good as a portable tv.
Im assuming its a combination of bad drivers and slingplayer throttling the bandwidth for battery purposes.
Id like to be able to have a slider much like the wifi performance one, because a lot of the time my tilt is externally powered, so power usage is not an issue.
I kinda had this problem when I switched from my 8525 to the tilt, I just switched all the setting back to default and it is pretty much flawless as long as I'm in 3g and also pretty damn good in the edge network as long as I have at least 3 bars. Have you tried reinstalling Slingplayer mobile/ Also make sure you dont have any background application running in your active programs list.
Has anyone else had trouble with loading web pages occassionally on T-Mobile's data connection?
Every once in awhile, web pages simply won't load, and I get the "This Page Cannot Be Displayed" error. It seems like I have to close all my tabs and then open a page to get it working again. This "glitch" or whatever it is, doesn't happen on WiFi, but has happened numerous times on the data connection.
Is this happening to anyone else??? It's like T-Mobile is trying to throttle the connection or something... I haven't used THAT much data

I have noticed this too, but when I look I usually have dropped to Edge from 3G. I think it has more to do with the 3G signal than the device itself. Possibly issues with your location the construction of the building you are in overhead fluorescent light, all of those might factor into the dropping signal. Just a theory.
I was pulling some CRAZY download speeds on mobile speed test website.
I was actually getting 25 Mb down consistently... With a 7 Mb sample size and about 5 different tests on 3G! The phone was blazing fast at the time too.
When I got home on wifi my speeds were back to normal - around 9 Mb.
I wonder if they were doing some network upgrades in Princeton NJ today?
Pretty crazy, and while it may have been the speed test was whacky, I really don't think it could've have been wrong on that many separate tests.
Anyway, that's my input. I think data has been good.

Yea, speed is no issue. I get 9 or 10 Mbps download speeds regularly. The problem is as I described, once in a while pages simply refuse to load, and I basically have to restart the browser. You have never experienced that? Thanks to the other user for your feedback, that might be true about it switching from 3G to Edge, I'll try to pay attention to that the next time it happens.
yeah, i got the issue you mentioned earlier this afternoon. hitting the refresh button doesn't seem to help either.
On several occasions, I've struggled to get a decent data connection, despite there being an apparent signal. Turning the data off and back on again in settings->mobile network has fixed it, but it is frustrating.

Yep. well it's good to know that others are experiencing it. I don't believe it is a problem with T-Mobile's network, since my old WinMo phone worked just fine. I wonder if people on ATT have this issue, cause I would say it is something that needs to be fixed in Windows Phone in general. I'll post the question in their Samsung Focus forums.
I usually do not have any problems with the data on my device.
But one thing I have noticed that is happening frequently on my phone was... It gets stuck in 'G' (which I think is GPRS, worst than Edge). After a bit of analysis, I have realized, that when I get into and out of a tunnel (I take a subway to work), at times, my device does not get the 3G and stuck in G.
But once I reboot the phone, I am back to full signal.
Again, this DOES NOT always happen. Only once in a while.
On the whole I am actually VERY HAPPY with the data speeds. I was actually amazed to see how Netflix app was streaming movies seamlessly on my device with out any hiccups even while passing through areas where the coverage fluctuates from 3G to Edge and back.

hi all, I have the following problem: buy a t-mobile hd7 released, I need to manually configure the 3G connection and I have that option. I live in Argentina and so far with my previous phones had no problems (hd2 htc, htc desire, xperia x10) thanks
I have noticed this issue too and I don't think it's t-mobile but on a positive note the web pages load up very fast.
My wife and I both have the HTC one and love it, however our WiFi speeds are atrocious. Our laptop will hit 35+ mbps and our phones rarely peak 6-8 mbps. YouTube, hulu, and anything else data intensive is useless. Our isp has been out, everything is fine, att said it's an isp issue, so no help there. However I loaded up viper 1 rom last night and I only see a marginal increase on speeds. Is there something her and I are missing or is this a hardware issue and extremely coincidental?
Her phone is a factory rom I am running the latest viperone

i would like to bump this!
i have experienced this same issue but not just with the htc one but with several other phones. on a laptop i get great speeds! but on mobile devices and game consoles i get extremely slow speeds. can someone help us with this issue?
Ok guys, I have been struggling with this issue for some months now, and was wondering if any other One owners are experiencing similar issues as me when it comes to wifi speeds on your phone. Let me first explain my issue, and then what I have done to troubleshoot and narrow down my possibilities.
So, for the past few months, as far as I can remember, I have been plagued by EXTREMELY SLOW wifi speeds. I'm talking 500kbs download speeds on a 50mbps home network. Whats even more bizzare is I have 10mbps upload speed on the wifi network. This does not pertain to any partcular rom. Sense, GPE, results are ALWAYS the same.
Now for the troubleshooting I have performed: I have tried various firmwares, radios, different roms, and of course I matched the current firmware to what rom version I am running. I have tried disconnecting the network and reconnecting, turned off Wifi Optimization in advanced wifi settings, I have tried resetting and powercycling the router, and have even switched internet service providers recently in the last week and am still experiencing painfully slow download speeds on wifi. And before someone tells me it may be a hardware failure, these results are consistently the same on my wife's HTC One. and my Nexus 7 ironically has blazing fast speeds.
So basically, I want to see If I am alone on this issue, or if others are experiencing similar issues with Wifi speeds being slow regardless of internet network speed. And why am I getting ridiculously fast upload speeds of around 10 mbps while only getting 500kbps to 1mbps download speeds??
Thanks guys, I wanted to put this thread out there to help others who may be in the same boat, and to get a consensus to see how many others also are plagued with this annoying nuisance.
Thanks.
Just tested the speed between nexus 7 and one on wlan and both upload and download are at 10 mbps (where the router is ~10 meters away through 2 solid walls).
I have a gpe 4.4.2 htc one.

hmmm, interesting... I just for the life of me cannot figure out why my wifi down speed is being choked so badly with nothing else sharing the connection.
I am having the exact same problem. I myself have been searching for answers and have not found anything.
