I have a Galaxy S I9000M, just came back from repair at the Montreal Repair Depot.
Had some trouble unlocking it to run on Fido network, but finally got that working using Helroz's unlock tool (so, phone is rooted) and unlocked).
Used it for a little while (about an hour) installed a couple of apps, and now, suddenly, I cannot install apps from the Android Market. When I try to install, the app goes through the process of downloading, but then it does nothing. I get no error message, no notice of install failing, the app download indicator disappears from my notification area, and the app is not installed.
Has anyone else run into this issue?
Any idea of a fix? I have powered off/on, no change. I would prefer to avoid having to factory reset, but will do so if absolutely necessary.
Thanks in advance for any input.
Having the same exact problem here...
same issue
Same thing is happening to me as well. It started after I rooted my phone using super one click root.
I also used super one click root on my phone, but the if that's the cause of the problem, then it doesn't cause it right away. I was able to install several apps after rooting, then suddenly I couldn't install anything.
I have read that for some people, unmounting the SD card will work. i had an external SD card installed, but i had that in before I downloaded apps that installed properly. For me, unmounting (and removing) the external SD card did not have any effect on my problem.
For what it's worth, I'm not running any special ROm or anything - just standard Froyo 2.2 (JL2) as released by Samsung for the Bell I9000M (I didn't upgrade, it shipped back from repair with JL2 installed).
Same here

let the market update the new version of maps and itll work. its workin now for me.
How can I force Maps to update?
Just some info guys: it seems to be a known issue. Checked the help in the main Market page: http://market.android.com/support/bin/static.py?page=known_issues.cs .
It's under download and installation issues. Please report it if you're having the same problem so they can fix it faster.
Ok the problem seems to be fixed by downloading/updating the Google Maps app. If it still doesn't work make sure to:
-clear data on the market app
-restart your phone
-update Google map and let it install fully
Galaxyluv, can you tell me how to force Maps to update itself? I cannot find any option to make it update

I am not really sure, mine showed that it needed an update. Maybe you can try to uninstall/install Google Map again and make sure to clear data on the market application FIRST.
After clearing my Market cache, and uninstalling market updates, market re-updated itself, and I can now install apps again (who knows fo how long, though). Hopefully, it will stay and i will stay happy.
Under Manage Applications I can't uninstall Market Updater for the above solution.
Any help?
im haviing the same issue guys, i have put a post up with same sort of problems

gonna try this now cheers
Sorry could I get some clarification on the suggestion jayisgod posted? Cos Im obviously missing something here.
I personally force stopped the market App, cleared the data in Manage Applications (btw the Cache button is grayed out) and then restarted the Market app (Agreed on the terms blah blah) and still get the same issue.
Btw in Manage Applications -> All I can see a Market Updater package but I can't delete it or force stop it (both options are grayed out).
Thanks
PS: I am using Darky's Rom V9.1 if that makes any difference

So I waited a few days before asking... I still can't see (browse) all apps in the market. So far though, any app I search by name I can find. Ideas?

Try installing MarketAccess.
Edit: Come to think of it, MarketAccess probably only works on devices that use data networks.. Can anyone confirm or deny?
Turn the nook to landscape and the market apps should be there.
I'm wondering if anyone else is having issues with getting items from the Market installed. It shows that I downloaded it, but nothing shows up. I just ran autonooter for 1.01 and and I'm able to install APK via ADB, but within Market, nothing installs.
Any ideas?

Reboot and it will show up in "Extras" if you're using the stock launcher.

Yeah that's the weird thing. Nothing ever shows up. I can see the apps when I do it via ADB install.
In Market though, they are all still in my download queue. They also still say "install" so maybe they haven't installed properly?

They're not installed properly if they're still in the download queue. Maybe your wireless isn't stable? Regardless, cancel the downloads and try them again, but let one finish before you download the next app.
Hi,
I have an OB with stock rom 10e and Quasar Kernel. The rom is rooted and everything works fine, but I have one problem though:
At first launch all the root apps work fine (I grant superuser permissions and such), but when I try to start the app again (e.g. Root Explorer) the app just gets stuck in the opening process. This happens with different root apps. The only solution is to kill the app and clear the app's data via the settings menu. Then it works again.
Anybody has a clue?
Hum... can you try to clear cache and data of Superuser app, launch it and click ok about the features and then launch apps using root (of course it will ask again for permission) ?
I'm not sure it will resolve your problem but... well I'm trying something. ^^

That seemed to fix it. Will see, if the problem returns. Thanks!
Did you update SuperUser app and su file?
Problem persists. I rooted the phone using the blackjack.exe from UPK package. Superuser is version 3.0.7, I don't know about the binary though. Should I just reinstall superuser?

Arf too bad. :/
What is the version of your su executable ?

The binary was outdatet (was 3.0.0) and I updated it via the superuser app. Seems better now. I will wait and see. Thanks for your help!
Hi guys.
OK so after doing research I decided to try the kingo root method.
All was going fine but when it asked me for the root permission on the adb shell the adb shell did not register my touch on the grant button.
Then stopped.
Kingo says root failed.
However I have root access.
The only problem is that my ui stops when I reboot. And backround goes blue. Everything seems to work but my play store does not let me download apps intermittently. It will download it in the stores download meter then the play store "stops".
If anyone has some insight it would be greatly appreciated...

Try opening the SU app and updating it
Try what @RErick said first. Open Superuser and update it.
If you're still having issues try unrooting with kingo or superuser, then re-root with kingo again.
And next time please make your thread topic based more on YOUR issue. Kingo is NOT unstable like your title mentions. "I messed up rooting" fits this description better!
My kingo root is. I didn't mean the accual prosses. I apologize.

What causes this issue. If I factory reset my phone will I lose root? Any help would be greatly appreciated...

No you will not loose root access if you do a factory reset. You'll probably need to download supersu again though.
Have you removed or frozen any apps since you rooted? Or are you still experiencing issues since the botched root attempt? If you did delete system files without a backup, a factory reset won't replace or fix them. It's possible a factory reset might fix some force closings, and worth a shot.
So what's happening when you experiencing these force closes? What tasks are you performing when the error occurs? Are you using any home replacement apps, or launchers like Apex, Nova, Go Launcher, etc....? I was experiencing system UI force closes with apex until I wiped apex's data and cache.
No deleted system apps. No launchers. When rebooting ui FCing. When I try to download app from market FCing. Now market won't even open. It force closes immediately.

I have 3 apps that when I try to download (after flashing a rom) that give me an "unknown error code during application install -505"
Thoughts?
I've cleared cache and data and forced stopped the play store...
I've checked to see if any folders or files are in root or in data/data and I found some and deleted but nothing. Still won't download.

i had one that got that code. what i did to fix this is i found that app using google(not play store), installed it that way, then uninstalled it via the pkay store, then reinstalled it in the play store.
Yea I'm getting that problem with Terminal Emulator for Android by Jack Palevich. Not sure what the deal is. Aggravating since ROM Toolbox Terminal FC, and another that I've tried. Rastapop with leanKernel.
Last time that happened to me I fixed it by using Root Explorer (any file manager with root access should work tho) and deleted the "com.appname......" file from data/data partition from system root level, not SD.
Then went back to Play Store and installed fine.

Yes, it's a -505 error. That's the only app I've had that problem with, though I don't download too many. I just want a terminal app to use with leanKernel so I can access lkconfig. I am thinking it might have something to do with me being on rastapop which is 5.0.1, what version and/or ROM are you using?
@saddog5523 I'm on euphoria beta, about to dirty flash to the latest version 1.0 off beta.
This -505 sucks...

I have no twrp backup of the play store or my apps.
Strangely the download happens from the play store, it's the install that hoses up. Making me think I have some file somewhere shettin bricks on the install.
I feel like I've tried everything.
Well. My main issue was with Terminal Emulator for Android by Jack Palevich. I clean flashed the new 5.0.1 and wiped/factory reset my device. Still had the same 505 error. It was crazy aggravating. I Google'd it to see if anyone else had the same issue, and found out that it was a permissions issue: http://android.stackexchange.com/qu...deal-with-unknown-installation-error-code-505
Every time I tried to access the baked in terminal emulator within Rom Toolbox Lite, it would force close the app. I got aggravated at Rom Toolbox Lite and uninstalled it, and while I was in the play store, decided to try Terminal Emulator for Android again. This time it worked. I uninstalled Terminal and installed Rom Toolbox Lite to test my new theory, and found that the two apps do not play well with each other for some reason. Even when I try to install Rom Toolbox Lite after I already have Terminal installed, it would give me the same 505 error. Apparently I can have one or the other, which honestly makes no sense at all.
I'm guessing that error could be fixed (possibly) by uninstalling applications that have the same feature. i.e. Terminal Emulator for Android and Rom Toolbox Lite. One of the apps you have installed might be causing the error in trying to install another app. Hope this helps someone with the same issue.

Are you running 5.0.1 ? I had this issue with an app when I first got my phone and with some research found out the problem was apparently fixed in the 5.0.1 OTA, well it fixed it for me. This is one of the changes that fixes it.

The problem is explained here in more detail. You basically have to uninstall whatever is conflicting with the app install. A logcat should be able to tell you where the conflict is.

Thanks. Yes, I'm running the stock ROM and not rooted. It's basically just out of the box and with the 5.0.1 OTA update. The conflict is between Pure Calendar Widget and GTasks. If I uninstall one app, the other will install. But if I try to install _both_, I get the 505 error. Is there any way around this? The post you linked to says that this has been fixed in 5.0.1, but it doesn't look like that to me.
Thanks!

I honestly think it's something either the developers will have to work out in a new version of their app, or Google will have to fix in a new phone update. Whichever comes first. 5.0.1 was supposed to fix it, but like you and I and others have noticed, it's still a problem. You're just going to have to use one or the other for now.
so, what you're saying is we're pretty much SOL until it is actually fixed...
the thing is, google is saying they fixed it on 5.0.1
if it's not actually fixed then people who can report it, should report it...
I do not have the permissions or "prestige" to post on StackOverFlow or code.google.com to say that the bug has not been fixed...
