Volume Too Loud/Soft - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a permanent way to raise the ringtone volumes? I find that the ringtones are notoriously soft compared to my Sony Ericsson W715, even with stock drivers! I'm missing like half my calls and texts because I can't hear it or feel the vibration.
For both my Galaxy S Captivate and my sister's Samsung Wave (yes does not belong here), we find that the lowest headset volume is still too loud when we are listening to music. Is there a way to change that too? Volume level 1 on our phones is like volume level 4 on my W715 and volume level 10 on her Sony MP3.

bump please

[Q] How to make the Captivate louder

The captivate is a great phone but the volume is much to low in almost all settings. For example, when my wife gets a phone call on her Samsung Epic (and has her ringer up all the way) it is a very loud crisp sound that can be heard in most circumstances. Contrarily, I can barely hear my Captivate if it is in my pocket if the environment is not relatively quiet. I have similar complaints about the volume in the media player, notification volume, etc.
I'm guessing that the hardware is capable of putting out much louder sounds and that there is a software limiter somewhere. How can I change the system to allow much louder volumes?
Thanks for the help...
Its probably something wrong with the settings or hardware on your phone judging as how the epic and captivate are from the same series of phones and constructed using the same parts. I have no problems with my sound and when i am listening to music i can still hear songs even if i am not even on the same floor as my phone in my house.
I would also like to know if there's a way to make the volume louder. I also find that the max volume setting is still too low compared to other phones.
My Captivate has plenty of volume with the stock ROM but with several custom ROMs that I've tried the volume is definitely lower. Are you still on the stock ROM?
I really can't stand the fact that the ringer starts in so low. Often by the time I hear it, the call goes to voice mail before I can fish it out of my pocket.
It'd be nice if there was a way to make incoming calls start out on high volume...
This was a link to a solution in another thread:

And here is a link to another thread with some good discussion on the topic:

Hope that helps...
Would this work on my samsung captivate from rogers to make the speaker louder?

Sound volume?

Hey guys, I was wondering if the sound can be tweaked to go just a little higher. I find the sound coming from the 2X good, but it's too low in volume.
As for example, the Samsung Galaxy S has a much higher volume. Mine is hardly hearable when playing next to the Galaxy S.
I'm agree with this, the volume is realy too low.
Im using a app called volume boost. It only cost about 2 $ in market. The sound in my headset becomes alot higher
Heard about it, but when I'm using my headphones the sound is pretty good. The thing I'm looking for is the volume for the speakers.
If it's for a louder incoming ring volume. Either choose a louder ringtone or boost an existing ringtone file by a couple of decibels with a sound editor program, like Audacity on the PC. I think up to +5db should be OK before distortion sets in.

[Q] Galaxy Note's In-Call Volume is Too Low!!!

Hi All,
I hope all is well and you are enjoying the holiday break.
I'm having trouble with my new SGN: the "In-Call" volume is too low.
When I'm on a street or in the car (anywhere with background noise), I can barely hear what a person says when I'm talking on my phone. Headset/Speaker volume is fine and they can also be further boosted by using Volume+ app from the Market but I cannot seem to find any cure for the low In-Call volume.
I did some research online and I noticed someone has posted a trick to solve similar challenge for the SGII by using Samsung Service Code (See below)
-------------------------------------------------------------
Dialer *#*#197328640#*#*
[5] AUDIO
[1] HANDSET
[1] VOLUME
[1] SRC Speech RX Volume
[5]5_lvl : 88
Menu -> Key Input
Change to any number greater than 88 (Max:100)
OK
Press back to save.
Default values:
0_lvl: 63
1_lvl: 68
2_lvl: 73
3_lvl: 78
4_lvl: 83
5_lvl: 88
---------------------------------------------------
** I tried the same trick on SGN which I purchased from Amazon but nothing happens when I select option, [5] AUDIO. It will not drill down to next set of sub-menus even if I key in the "5" from the main menu.
Please let me know if anyone else are also experiencing the similar challenges. Thank you very much for your time.
Unfortunately the sound is a big issue here.
Supercurio is working on an app to increase the vol. THis will need root and will work only on with the headset. THis app should be released in the next few days.
I was looking for a solution to increase the speaker volume ( Not quality ) as the speaker sound is low for voice calls.
There is an app called volume+ in the market. You can try it for the speaker.
Hi drgopoos,
Are you saying that you also felt In-Call Volume for SGN is way too low? I am just curious if I have a faulty unit or this issue is concerning all SGN units in general. I did try the Volume+ App from the market and it does boost the volume for Headset and External Speaker but it does nothing to the "In-Call" Volume.

Try moving the entire phone lower onto your ear. I know it sounds obvious, but the speaker is quite high on the device and my volume was low because the speaker was too high on my ear. Once I lowered it (feels awkward) it was much louder.
Anyone else felt the volume on your SGN is way too low or am I going deaf...
Can you recommend a way to remedy this problem?
I know how frustrating it can be when the earpiece speaker isn't loud enough. My nexus one had low in-call volume and it was frustrating. My Note, however, has very high in-call volume on the earpiece speaker! I have to turn it down a few notches for comfort. I'd say you might have a defective unit, or maybe you're holding it wrong like that other guy suggested.
If you're talking about the external speaker being too quiet, the one for speaker phone calls, playing music, ring tunes/notifications, etc., then I agree. I hope Supercurio's working on a fix for that. I'm currently using an equalizer from the market that allows me to turn all frequencies up a few decibels, but at the expense of sound quality.
Mine is loud enough...

The volume is ok with ear peice when i am inside the house and silent.
However outside , when i am walking in the street its to difficult.
Both indoors and outdoors my Note is one of the loudest phones i owned. I can't complain about its ear piece. In fact, i have to lower it 2-3 clicks to be comfortable
Yeah...I got the same problem also...
Indoor works great! but outdoor...oh man....
Earpiece in call volume is good. But, speakerphone in call volume is horrendous! I've tried volume+, equalizer, volume boost, AnEq Equalizer and nothing works! Very sad.
I can't access audio menu [5]. Always loopa me back to main menu. Doea anybody know how to fix that?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA App
Mine is loud and clear..better than all the other devices i had

Even your speakerphone while in call? That is the one place I really need it because I often use speakerphone a lot while driving or just at home.

Actually, my earpiece volume is quite good. Just a suggestion, not meant to insult you, but since the phone is so large could it be possible you are not placing the earpiece properly over your ear?
For those with poor speakerphone volume the ONLY (I've tried at least 4-5) application I found that worked is Audioboost SGS2 (It's 2.5USD in the market) but that's the only one that truly raises EVERY volume. Be careful though I think there might be potential to damage your speakerphone if you raise it too high. I have it right around 88 (highest is 93)
Hope this helps!
My European version of SGN is about the loudest phone i ever had, speaker phone wise. It's also crystal clear! maybe because i was coming from Desire HD, which had kinda awful sound

I want to retract my last statement. Audioboost does raise the in-call speakerphone volume, BUT it effectively ruins everything else. It creates ALOT of static, even at middle volume levels. It was so bad I had to revert the settings and uninstall it. The search continues...

Xperia T increase headset volume?

Hi I would like to increase the headset volume on my phone it is far to quiet when listening to music in my car via the audio jack, I used to have a galaxy s i9000 and I used the voodoo amp app that turned up the gain from -10 to +2 and it sounded incredible in the car but my Sony outputs at a much lower volume and sounds pants in comparison!
I've tried a lot of volume boost apps in play store and I've tried flashing sound mods like v4a and zeroinfinitys volume boost and superloud but nothing makes any difference at all!
And I'm stuck with a bootloader unlock allowed : no phone so unable to install custom kernels
Any help to turn up the volume in some way would be greatly appreciated......
Thanks in advance
Anybody??
One last attempt for a response lol
This phone will be for sale if I can't sort this volume out or unlock the bootloader I will go back to samsung

Wait for 4.3 update, stock volume is louder.
But have you tried poweramp ? Gain can be increased a lot.
I have had a similar issue. Increasing gain will kill quality. And I don't think you want that. My recommendation is to buy a headset with a higher sensitivity. I always look for something higher than 105db because this stupid phone.
That's good news volume is louder in 4.3! I'm currently using poweramp paid version, I have dvc enabled and I've turned up the pre amp slider on the equaliser a bit but not a lot of difference in the sound have I missed a setting somewhere??
I never use an actual headset I plug the phone into the aux in on my car stereo, I don't know the hardware differences between the 2 phones I have but with the Sony plugged in and all volumes on max it sounds very quiet but if I plug in my old galaxy s running cm7 and voodoo sound if all volumes were maxed speaker damage would almost definitely occur it is sooooo much louder and the quality is still crystal clear in my opinion
This is a problem of too high impedance of your car device for XT, hardware related... You could use a preamp.
But wait for 4.3.

[Q] Call volume on the lowest level just TOO LOUD!

Hello.
Over a week ago I switched from my dear old Xperia Neo to Xperia Z1 and so far no real complaints except:
The in-call volume even on the lowest level is too loud. Much too loud. It's impossible to hold it so that it touches my ear when listening to the other caller. It was never the problem with Neo. Some people joke that modern smartphones are so loaded with features that the quality of the fundamental functions may become secondary. Well, it isn't very far from that.
I've searched for a solution all over the place, but all you find is ''Volume Boosters'' and how to increase volume steps. That doesn't do a thing with volume.
Does anybody know how to lower the minimum call volume (or minimum System volume or whatever that helps to solve my issue)?
The phone is rooted, with stock firmware.
Thanks.
