I was messing around with IE on my WP7 and went to WMpowerusers.com. I noticed I was able to tap on a video on their site and watch it.
Do you guys know of any other sites that have videos in silverlight?
Are you sure it was a silverlight video not just a Youtube video?
I'm not sure. I thought it was youtube but i do think it plays certain versions. For example check out this channel 9 link
http://channel9.msdn.com/blogs/mtaulty/silverlight-simple-styles
It's clearly an embedded silverlight video and it plays fine on my HD7.

So i installed the new Youtube java app on my tilt and i can get it to load up but when you try to watch a video it says "This phone can't stream videos". Heres the url to download it:
http://www.google.com/m/download/youtube/download?make=Nokia&model=N95&ver=v1.0.1
Maybe someone can get it to work.
p.s. i know its not meant for our phone.
I guess - YouTube will release the version for WM also
no there is no direct link right about now u have to ues the player and the buddle
why don't u just use vtap...??
much easier....
does vtap view youtube videos? whats the difference between vtap, youtube. java?
tvos
I've tested vtap some time ago. It has downloaded 2MB of data without displaying anything. Maybe other people don't have this problem, but I don't want to test this buggy app anymore.
For Youtube you don't need anything. Just visit http://m.youtube.com/ and watch the videos. The Kaiser (at least the TyTN II) has a stream player built in, which plays the videos very good.

vTap is a fantastic program!!! I have it on all my PPC's. Just like all programs there is a problem EVERY now and than, but overall it's a very solid (and free) program....
m.youtube.com does not have every youtube video. It's only the most popular ones. vTap has ALL youtube vidz streamed directly from tha web.....
If you want a service LIKE m.youtube.com go to ytpocket.com. You need to install TCPMP with tha plugin (which is at ytpocket.com )....
And are you SURE that m.youtube.com uses tha Streaming Media player? I haven't used it since it first came out, but I don't remember needing any programs.....

Tell me? Why would I suggest a program in a thread about playing youtube videos..... which doesn't play youtube videos?
Yes, it plays yt videos along with Google Video and other webclip sites. It also has a search engine for wikipedia....
vtap is program. youtube is a site which plays webclips. Java does not come into play in this at all. Most stuff on a PPC does not require Java because it has an operating system....
Any more questions....??

If you are using GPRS/EDGE or UMTS without a flatrate m.youtube.com is the better way because there the vids are optimised for mobile devices. Of course the quality isn't very good, but not everybody is using WIFI.
i installed the youtube panel but it isn't so comfortable for me. I prefer the site m.youtube.com but i cannot watch the videos there although i installed the plash plugin.. is there any other way to watch youtube videos?

Use official YouTube application by Google for WM!
I already installed the youtube app but it isn't so comfortable with me... it bothers me that after a search for a video i cannot categorize the results by rating for example. It also bothers me that the videos are opened with the streaming media app and not with TCMP or another video app. Now, as it concerns the m.youtube.com site, the videos are opened only with the streaming media app and not with another video player. Can i change that? Can somebody help?
Hi,
my YouTube app is not working property. I can watch videos on m.youtube.com but that is all. On any other web site it is just not working. When the pages loads the video doesn't.
I tried HR and reinstall the app. That did not help at all.
Anyone with same problem..?
Whats your version number of the youtube app do you have
Sent from my futuristic phone
Well the latest one.. It is not working since i got the phone over a month ago..
SO it is working to you guys..?
It is working to my friend on HTC Trophy so i thought that it can be just O2 UK HD7 having this problem..because they fiddled with the IE..
All the youtube app does is open m.youtube.com and plays the videos.
It redirects www.youtube.com to m.youtube.com, proivded your IE settings are set to mobile view, not desktop view.
Mines an unlocked o2 HD7 (on t-mobile) and it seems to be working fine like described...
YouTube App on WP7 can also play YouTube videos on other sites.
For example you can add youtube video to the post in forums like XDA.. Or if you go to pocketnow.com all videos there are on YouTube..
And then when you are on site that has YouTube video you can jsut play it.. When the page loads you can then click on the little image of the video and YouTube WP7 App will start playing it..
Well and that is not working for me.. When the page loads the video doesn't...
All i can do is go to m.youtube.com that works ok...

As far as I know and have read the youtube app is simply a wrapper for m.youtube.com which doesn't always have all the videos.
Well you can see it on this video. That this plugin should be able to play YouTube video on other sites. But it just doesn't work on my phone.

Having exactly the same issue...
I'm on a unbranded HD7 EU.

I just found this at worked for me... Changing region to US instead of UK...
It is funny that Microsoft can't make a working app for WP7..
I tried some sites and discovered wp7 video player can play mp4 and 3gp vids but not avi ones.
I wanted to try write an app for homebrew to collect online movies such as http://www.mp4mobilemovies.net/.
Does anybody know other sources which might include some series too?
check out icefilms ... they apparently have an API of some sort since XBMC plugins are written and some android apps also tie into it .
edit:
i completely missed the point on that one haha
im pretty sure icefilms uses avi . my bad
Hi,
I've been an android user for ages, but I'm also a photographer and I'm very very intrigued by the Lumia 1020....but there is one particular thing that really keeps me from trying it...it's media player capabilities. I watch video on my android phone ALL the time. This is not an exaggeration. I watch videos going to and back from work, I watch videos when I'm waiting for a doctors' appointment (or any appointment). And the best part is that is nothing that Android won't play either straight away or simply by installing the right codec and a good player from the google app store (some of the best are free). I've the Lumia 1020 review and one of the main complaints were that there were A LOT of video formats and codecs that had to be converted before hand so the phone would play it. That is absolutely out of the question for me as sometimes I will copy like 8 seasons of a show directly to my phone.
Is there an app, codec, hack or whatever that will allow a windows phone the same flexibility when it comes to playing multiple formats or would I be stuck with converting videos before hand?
I just checked: there is an app which already supports playing MKV, but it's $4.49 US and I don't know if it's available in all regions, so you should check the WP8 store from your browser before buying. It also doesn't have great reviews (plays MKVs but some people say they lack subtitles, for example) although the dev is responsive to feedback according to some reviews. Alternatively, wait for VLC to be ported, which is a work in progress (once they have it working for Windows RT, the Windows Phone 8 port will be fast).
There are also media streaming clients on the phone which require you to install server software on the PC, but don't require that you convert the files. These also have the advantage of not using up phone storage. However, you will need to have very good bandwidth (both download to phone and upload from PC) to stream video.
